Show Notes

We kick Season 3 off with a famous prodigy of the Chicago comedy scene and Pete Holmes' offering Silly Silly Fun Boy. Of course we wend our way towards the actual review with initial discussions on painkillers, having a full life and a special call in interview with America's top pyrographer (that's a wood burning artist in laymans terms)!  You can catch the special on Youtube: Silly Silly Fun Boy. You should watch it before listening to the review.

Theme music: El Cha Cha Man by Juanitos. Juanitos, led by Juan Naveira, is the single French rock'n'roll and soul band mixing latin soul, exotica, acid jazz, punk, vocal pop and sometimes reggae roots in the Jackie Mittoo style. They are very good.

[00:00:09] Speaker A: I remember when I had a surgery and they gave me some kind of painkiller, and I. I don't remember if it was Vicodin or Percocet or what, but I remember being like, oh. Because you hear about, like, oh, I'm gonna take these. I'm gonna be all messed up. But you take a painkiller, you don't feel anything. There's no high. There's just this feeling where you don't. It's the subtlest feeling of like, I don't really care about anything anymore, you know? Like, I don't. Nothing worries me at all. I don't care. That's the power in it. [00:00:42] Speaker B: I thought it was that you had to mix them with booze and stuff, and that's why they're. [00:00:46] Speaker A: I'm sure they really kick in then. But. But, like, a painkiller is not a hides. It's. It's just an. It erases anything. It's an eraser. Erases your feeling. [00:00:56] Speaker C: Like a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. [00:00:59] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:00:59] Speaker C: Magically, your problems go away. [00:01:01] Speaker A: Yeah, really? Like, all your problems are still there, but you're like. You just don't care. You're not, like, high, like, yeah, man. I feel. You're just like, yeah, I don't care anymore. It's whatever. And that's an amazing feeling. [00:01:12] Speaker C: Yeah, that's people. That's a lot of money to feel that way. [00:01:15] Speaker B: I never got. I had some pretty strong painkillers when I had the big motorcycle crashes. All it did is stop the pain, which made me happy to be not being. [00:01:27] Speaker A: It stops the pain. Yeah, but. But it also. It shuts off a few other receptors, is what I'm trying to say. That are subtle. Yeah, I think so. The reason I'm. I think it's coming up is I've been dealing with some back pain [00:01:46] Speaker C: for [00:01:46] Speaker A: quite some time, and Dr. John Lee has prescribed me a muscle. I don't know. I'm just trying to make it dramatic with the music. [00:02:01] Speaker B: This is the Godfather, right? [00:02:02] Speaker C: I don't think it is. [00:02:03] Speaker A: Viva Via Zapata. Viva Sabata. [00:02:08] Speaker C: It was a monster rally. It's a song called Orchids. [00:02:11] Speaker A: I love that you're having fun with the board. [00:02:14] Speaker C: Keep going with that. [00:02:15] Speaker A: I don't know where this is going or when it's happening, but I love that you're having fun. [00:02:19] Speaker C: I live a fun life. [00:02:21] Speaker A: You do you. [00:02:24] Speaker C: I have. I have a fun life. [00:02:25] Speaker A: I have a full life. Go to I have a full life Dot com. And if you want to book a show Or a speaking engagement. I will come and speak to your group. [00:02:34] Speaker B: You should set up a rival organization. [00:02:36] Speaker C: I think I will. [00:02:37] Speaker B: I think we're both fun life. [00:02:38] Speaker C: We're thinking the same thing right now. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Yeah, nobody would go to that. [00:02:42] Speaker B: Don't have a full life. Have a fun life. [00:02:44] Speaker C: Fun is better than full. [00:02:46] Speaker A: No, full means more than just fun. Fun is included in full. Fun is just fun. Full includes fun, but it also has other things that make it fun. [00:02:54] Speaker C: But those things could not be fun, too. [00:02:58] Speaker A: But it's a positive full having a full life. You're right. It might be negative. Having a full life. My life is full and it sucks. Just like my bladder is full or, [00:03:07] Speaker B: yeah, I have a full life. Sounds like a last desperate. It's like someone's telling themselves, right? [00:03:15] Speaker C: Trying to convince themselves of the fact [00:03:16] Speaker A: that they have a good life. I have a full life. [00:03:18] Speaker B: That's your joke. That's the nihilist. [00:03:22] Speaker A: It's not nihilist. But when those young men don't invite me out, I say I don't worry about it. I got a full life. Got a lot going on, so it's cool. [00:03:29] Speaker B: God, isn't it awful to think we're now so old? Young people are, like, putting us out. Stay the. [00:03:37] Speaker A: Don't hang out with us. [00:03:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Jesus. [00:03:40] Speaker A: Yeah, it's starting to creep in there, you know? Like you can only deny it for so long and then it becomes a reality. [00:03:47] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:47] Speaker B: You don't even notice the invites have stopped. [00:03:50] Speaker A: Yeah, you're right. [00:03:51] Speaker B: And I. I think. I just think, oh, no one invites me because they know. No, no. Because I'm a misanthrope and I often say I would rather not interact with people, but really, it's just that I'm an old scro and they don't want me around. [00:04:07] Speaker C: Is scro short for scrotum? [00:04:09] Speaker A: Yes, yes. It's a British euphemism. [00:04:12] Speaker C: Yeah, it's a Britishism. [00:04:13] Speaker B: Anyway, we on. Is this the agenda now? [00:04:15] Speaker C: We're rolling. We're going. [00:04:18] Speaker B: I got gifts. [00:04:19] Speaker A: I got gifts. [00:04:20] Speaker C: Yeah, so do I. [00:04:21] Speaker A: You do. [00:04:22] Speaker B: The Yankee. What's the pot roast? [00:04:24] Speaker A: I was thinking about the gifts, right? Like, I called you guys to say, hey, do you want anything from the market? Like, I never know if anyone's bringing food or if I'm going to bring food. I think the rule should be every week you have to bring something. It can be food, it can be a gift, it can be a news item. It can be an oddity to talk about. It's like show and tell or show and share. Show and give whatever you want to call it. Each week you're required to bring something, even if it's just a story. Isn't that sex story would be good, [00:04:52] Speaker B: but isn't that anti the freewheeling no boundaries show that you want? [00:05:00] Speaker A: Well, you can defy the boundary. That's up to you. [00:05:03] Speaker B: Speaking of sex, what kind of nihilist are you? You want structure, a structured one. [00:05:09] Speaker C: Structure. [00:05:09] Speaker A: Play around within the structure. [00:05:11] Speaker C: Do we sponsors anymore? [00:05:13] Speaker A: We do. We do. We're still sponsored by Begain. I was with him. [00:05:16] Speaker C: Who's keeping us going? [00:05:17] Speaker A: Begain. Yeah, and then two other companies. I have a full life.com and Bill's whiffling Camp. [00:05:27] Speaker C: You beat me to the I have a funlife.com sponsorship comment. [00:05:30] Speaker A: That was. [00:05:32] Speaker C: I was lofting that wiffle ball in the air for myself to smack out on the outfield. [00:05:37] Speaker A: You got to get up earlier in the morning to beat my wit to [00:05:40] Speaker C: get up at 4am I've got a sharp wit. [00:05:43] Speaker A: Everyone's always told me that. Like a. Got a sharp eye for comedy anyway. [00:05:50] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:05:51] Speaker A: All right, well, let's. Let's get right into these gifts. We got so many gifts. [00:05:54] Speaker C: Yeah. You want me to go first? [00:05:55] Speaker A: Oh, I forgot the Andes chocolates again. [00:05:58] Speaker C: Oh, fuck. [00:05:59] Speaker A: It's been weeks they've been sitting on the shelf. I keep forgetting them. [00:06:02] Speaker C: They go bad? [00:06:03] Speaker A: Nah. Well, eventually, but shelf life's long. I know. All right, you go ahead. What do you got? All right, Christian's got a gift. Here comes the album. One will be Johnny Paycheck, the other will be. [00:06:14] Speaker C: You don't know that I have either. There Goes the Neighborhood by Joe Walsh. [00:06:19] Speaker A: Why is he only the one? That's a good album. That's cool cover, too. [00:06:22] Speaker C: Remark. [00:06:22] Speaker A: Yeah, but why is it he always gets albums? I like albums. [00:06:25] Speaker C: I have something different for you, but [00:06:26] Speaker A: I also like albums. [00:06:27] Speaker C: Okay. [00:06:28] Speaker A: I doubt he ever plays. [00:06:29] Speaker C: So it's either this one. It's either There Goes the Neighborhood by Joe Walsh or senior Paycheck Johnny Paycheck. Mr. Lovemaker. [00:06:39] Speaker A: That's the same one, right? Same Mr. Love Maker. [00:06:42] Speaker C: No, I buy a new one every week. [00:06:44] Speaker A: Well, it's still there, Mark. Which will be Joe Walsh's. [00:06:49] Speaker B: Joe Walsh from the Eagles? [00:06:50] Speaker C: From the Eagles. And he was on the Drew Carey Show. [00:06:53] Speaker B: Can I have Bill? [00:06:54] Speaker C: You want Bill? Oh, this Price is Right. Stealing the gift showcase for Bill. I had the option of either Bill Larkin. Is that knowing your audience? Recorded live at the Green Mill in Chicago. It's a cd. Still in the wrapper? Yep. [00:07:15] Speaker A: All right, I can give that away. [00:07:16] Speaker C: Either this or the dvd. Nirvana. Nevermind. [00:07:20] Speaker A: I gave you that for Christmas, you asshole. [00:07:22] Speaker C: Oh, really? [00:07:23] Speaker A: Fucking. You're re. Gifting my gift? [00:07:25] Speaker C: This is also still in the wrapper. I'll take that back. [00:07:28] Speaker A: That was a nice, thoughtful gift I'll take back. I'll give it to someone else. [00:07:32] Speaker C: You want the Nirvana? Well, no, but Marcus the pick, because he's stealing your gift. [00:07:35] Speaker B: I'm having the Nirvana. [00:07:36] Speaker C: Oh, there we go. [00:07:39] Speaker B: And then you're having one of the albums. [00:07:40] Speaker A: Give me that John. Joe Walsh album. [00:07:43] Speaker C: You want the Joe Walsh album? [00:07:45] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:46] Speaker C: All right. So Bill Larkin stays on the shelf for another time. [00:07:50] Speaker A: That's a nice. [00:07:50] Speaker C: I can't believe nobody's. [00:07:52] Speaker A: That's an unwrapped. That's probably worth something, you know, it is probably. [00:07:56] Speaker C: He's gonna ebay that. [00:07:57] Speaker A: I bet that shit's worth something on ebay. I just bought a couple DVDs this week. [00:08:02] Speaker C: All right, well, here you go. Here is the. There goes the neighborhood. There's no. There's no record here. It's just the jacket. [00:08:08] Speaker A: Oh, there's no record in it. [00:08:09] Speaker C: I'm just joking. There's a record in there. [00:08:11] Speaker A: That's pretty cool. [00:08:11] Speaker B: He's sure he's with the Eagles? [00:08:13] Speaker C: He was, yeah. Not anymore. They broke up. [00:08:17] Speaker B: All right, my turn then, is it? [00:08:20] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:08:21] Speaker B: All right, well, so what I've got. And I might have screwed up on one of these. So for Christian, I have a thing combining his two favorite things. Ice hockey and growing plants. [00:08:34] Speaker D: Yeah, [00:08:36] Speaker C: it's a pot. That's awesome. [00:08:38] Speaker A: Kind of looks like him. Let me see that fella. On the. On the. [00:08:40] Speaker C: I thought. I thought that's what you like. I thought that's. You're gonna say Mark is combining his two favorite things. Hockey and having red hair. [00:08:48] Speaker A: Yes, he does love both. [00:08:50] Speaker B: It's a. [00:08:50] Speaker C: Or being a ginger. It's hockey Brits, as you Brits say. What team? What team do you think this guy plays for? [00:08:57] Speaker B: Montreal Maroons. [00:08:59] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:09:00] Speaker B: Oh, is that what they were called? [00:09:02] Speaker C: They were. I like this. Thank you, Mark. [00:09:05] Speaker B: All right, and then for Bill, now, I may have screwed up here, I got you a DVD player. [00:09:11] Speaker C: Oh, you did? [00:09:13] Speaker B: I left the sticker on from the garage sale in case you're an ingrate and you want to take it back. So it does work. Confirmed. Working DVD player. And to go with it, because I know you've got a group of youths at home who'll be get gawping at it going, what is this? [00:09:32] Speaker A: I can put this one downstairs. [00:09:34] Speaker B: You can put it on. I've got you a movie night. Limits of Control and early Jar Moosh effort. [00:09:41] Speaker A: Oh, I never heard of this. This is a feature. [00:09:44] Speaker B: Yeah, [00:09:47] Speaker A: No, I have seen this. I've seen this with Isaac DeBankle. It's bad, but it's. [00:09:51] Speaker B: It's not great. [00:09:52] Speaker A: No, I haven't seen this. Maybe I have. Yes, I have. I've seen. It's weird. [00:09:58] Speaker B: It is weird. Frogs. [00:10:00] Speaker A: Oh, I love this. Frogs. They just showed this at the music box. Missed it. Is that me calling? [00:10:06] Speaker C: We're getting a caller. [00:10:08] Speaker B: Can I just finish up? [00:10:09] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:10:09] Speaker B: Tremors. [00:10:10] Speaker D: Oh, whoa. [00:10:11] Speaker A: These are tremors. These are awesome. [00:10:14] Speaker B: So you can show those to the youth tonight. [00:10:16] Speaker A: That's like a film fest, right? In and of itself, like a three film film festival. [00:10:21] Speaker C: Can we pause gift time to pick up? All right, all right, thank you. All right. Hello, caller, can you hear me? Oh, hi. This is. Yeah, we are in the middle of gift time right now. We're exchanging gifts. [00:10:33] Speaker A: That's the employee of the month for June. [00:10:38] Speaker D: This is she. [00:10:39] Speaker A: Yeah, it sounds like her. [00:10:41] Speaker C: Can you hear us? All right, I know there's been issues. [00:10:43] Speaker D: Yeah, I can hear you. [00:10:43] Speaker C: All right, great. [00:10:45] Speaker B: Who is this? [00:10:45] Speaker C: This is. This is the. The person that was commissioned to create our. Our B signs. [00:10:53] Speaker A: Oh, we discussed during the last bathroom. [00:10:55] Speaker C: The last episode. Yeah. [00:10:57] Speaker A: I wonder how they're coming along since. [00:10:58] Speaker C: Is that why you're calling an update? [00:11:00] Speaker D: That's why I'm calling. [00:11:02] Speaker C: All right. And how's it going? [00:11:04] Speaker D: Pretty good. I have to wear contacts. I stopped the smoke from getting out [00:11:09] Speaker A: of my eyes from the burning. [00:11:11] Speaker D: That's a big problem with wood burning. Yeah, I would think smoke getting in your eyes. [00:11:16] Speaker B: Do you use, like a soldering iron? Do you use a soldering iron? [00:11:23] Speaker D: It looks like that. It's. It looks like a pen, but it just gets hot at the tip and then you burn into the wood. [00:11:30] Speaker C: Yeah, I've seen it does. It looks. Yeah, it's like a. [00:11:33] Speaker B: What do you do for large areas? [00:11:36] Speaker D: For the large areas of the sign? I've seen people do a couple of different things. I have a friend who also does wood burning and he's got a small torch and he will singe or torch large areas to make it look dark and it not take forever. But there was one time that I put thousands of dots on a sign and it took forever, but it looked [00:12:02] Speaker A: really cool because you have to burn each dot. [00:12:06] Speaker D: I have to burn each dot. [00:12:08] Speaker C: Do you still have that laser machine? [00:12:11] Speaker D: Yeah, I have a laser machine. It's not hooked up right now, the water. There's like a water that cools the CO2 laser, and it started dumping water all over my floor and my downstairs neighbors. [00:12:24] Speaker B: Wait, you'd burn in the wood? Laser? [00:12:27] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, laser. Laser cutter. [00:12:30] Speaker C: Like a. [00:12:31] Speaker A: Like a laser printer? [00:12:33] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:12:34] Speaker A: They laser into the wood and they make things. [00:12:36] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm envisaging the movie Real genius. Where they have to build a military laser and they can't get the cooler right. [00:12:44] Speaker A: Yeah. How are the signs for the bathroom coming? What. What have you settled on? We discussed it last week. We talked about whether they'd be. It would be gals or whatever. [00:12:53] Speaker D: Yeah, they're along the lines of the sign that I created for the bar area. That kind of vintage style with the finger pointing and the old tiny words. [00:13:05] Speaker A: What are the words going to be? That's what we're. We're talking about. [00:13:08] Speaker D: That's what I'm calling. [00:13:09] Speaker A: Yeah, okay. You want to know what the words do we have. Have you decided what you want the words to be, Mark? [00:13:14] Speaker D: I'm. I'm open for ideas. [00:13:17] Speaker A: Who has final cut on this? Mark has final say on the words on the sign. [00:13:20] Speaker B: No, this is signage. This is more a marketing creative license operational area. [00:13:26] Speaker A: So who's that go to? [00:13:29] Speaker C: Yeah, who. Who is in charge of that? Is that a Kelsey? Is that a Kelsey thing or is it Deanna thing? I don't know me well to have [00:13:36] Speaker A: you collab be involved in this. [00:13:37] Speaker C: Yeah, sure. [00:13:38] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:13:38] Speaker C: Let's take recommendations. What do you got, Bill? [00:13:42] Speaker A: I like lads and lasses. [00:13:45] Speaker C: Bill likes lads and lasses. [00:13:46] Speaker D: I like that. That's a good one. [00:13:48] Speaker A: British. [00:13:49] Speaker C: Right, Mark, what do you think about lads and lasses and then. [00:13:54] Speaker B: No, no, because everyone was gonna go, oh, Gary's made that one. [00:13:58] Speaker C: Yeah, true. [00:13:59] Speaker B: I want. I want blokes. I want distant. [00:14:02] Speaker A: Yeah, blokes and what. [00:14:04] Speaker C: I think he's trying to avoid anything British. What's. [00:14:06] Speaker A: What about a real term for a woman? [00:14:08] Speaker B: Australian. We went Sheila's and Bruce's. [00:14:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. [00:14:14] Speaker C: Who. Who's that reference? [00:14:15] Speaker A: Or is that just a general woman? And Bruce would be the man. A lot of. A lot of people in Australia are named Bruce. [00:14:20] Speaker C: Are they? [00:14:21] Speaker B: Yeah, hence the famous, like, Muhammad sketch. [00:14:24] Speaker A: Oh, I don't know that. [00:14:25] Speaker B: G', day, Bruce. How you doing, Bruce? Bruce is over there. You never seen it? It's a classic. [00:14:34] Speaker A: What's a colloquial term in British for a woman? It's not offensive. [00:14:39] Speaker B: Birds. [00:14:40] Speaker C: Yeah, I was gonna say. Can you still say birds? [00:14:41] Speaker A: Blokes and birds. [00:14:43] Speaker C: Blokes. And birds. [00:14:45] Speaker B: That's like the name of Austin Power. That's like, if someone wants. What should we name this new concept? British pub in. [00:14:52] Speaker C: Yeah, right. [00:14:52] Speaker B: Blokes and birds. [00:14:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, that's what it does sound like. [00:14:56] Speaker B: All right, well, I don't know. [00:14:59] Speaker D: It can't be too out there, because then people don't. One time. Didn't Courtney have a problem with that once where she couldn't figure out which was which and she had to go to the bartender? [00:15:07] Speaker C: Yeah, I think so. Our sister Courtney has a story where they made it too vague. [00:15:15] Speaker A: Too vague? [00:15:16] Speaker C: Which bathroom was which. [00:15:17] Speaker A: Vag. [00:15:17] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:15:18] Speaker A: Or vague. [00:15:19] Speaker C: Vague. [00:15:20] Speaker A: You're kidding, right? [00:15:21] Speaker C: About what vag? [00:15:23] Speaker A: Instead of vague. [00:15:24] Speaker C: Vague. [00:15:25] Speaker B: Vague. [00:15:26] Speaker C: Egg. [00:15:28] Speaker B: Vague. [00:15:30] Speaker C: Fog. [00:15:33] Speaker A: There's no debate here. It's vague, right? I mean, I feel crazy. I feel you're gaslighting. [00:15:37] Speaker C: It's fog. [00:15:38] Speaker B: Let's make it houses from Harry Potter. And then no one's gonna. [00:15:42] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:15:42] Speaker A: Gryffindor. Slytherin. That's a great idea. [00:15:46] Speaker B: Everyone just stopped being there. [00:15:48] Speaker A: Watching each other. Men and women watching each other go to the bathroom. And Slytherin. Well, Slytherin would be Penis. [00:15:54] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:15:55] Speaker A: Obviously a snake. [00:15:57] Speaker B: What about what's, like a good film reference? [00:16:02] Speaker A: How about some kind of comedy reference? [00:16:04] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, but you see clowns and clowns and what's. The women in the circus would be the. [00:16:13] Speaker D: Oh, like acrobat. [00:16:15] Speaker C: Oh, like a trapeze artist. [00:16:17] Speaker B: Put clowns and the women that go on the backs of horses. [00:16:21] Speaker D: Clowns and clowns. [00:16:24] Speaker A: Fit all that on the sign. Have fun burning that. Yeah. [00:16:27] Speaker C: Clowns and clownettes. [00:16:30] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:16:32] Speaker A: It's fun to think about. You can just think about all that. [00:16:35] Speaker C: I'm excited for this project and figuring this out. [00:16:39] Speaker D: Yeah, me, too. What did we decide on? [00:16:42] Speaker C: We haven't. No. [00:16:43] Speaker D: Okay. Vog. [00:16:44] Speaker C: Yeah, it's still pretty vog. [00:16:46] Speaker A: Yeah, it's pretty vague right now. All right, well, what do you need to know by they. You know, give. Set a deadline so that I don't [00:16:55] Speaker D: need to know anytime soon. Probably just the next 30 minutes would help. [00:16:59] Speaker A: Okay, the iron is hot. [00:17:01] Speaker B: Remember to turn the soldering iron off, because I always forget mine and I come back to burnt. [00:17:06] Speaker A: Well, you do some soldering. What do you. Solder. [00:17:09] Speaker B: Soldering what? Bloody microphone leads these numpties keep breaking. [00:17:14] Speaker C: Oh, can that be one of them? Numpties? Yeah. [00:17:19] Speaker D: How would you spell that? [00:17:19] Speaker A: Jeffs [00:17:23] Speaker B: and dump these? I don't know. [00:17:26] Speaker C: I'll get. I'll get a list to you pretty soon. [00:17:30] Speaker D: Perfect. [00:17:31] Speaker C: All right. [00:17:33] Speaker D: All right. I'll start burning now. [00:17:35] Speaker C: Don't forget your contacts. [00:17:37] Speaker D: I won't. I've done that before. Didn't turn out well. [00:17:43] Speaker A: All right. [00:17:44] Speaker D: All right, Bye. [00:17:44] Speaker C: All right, thanks for calling. [00:17:46] Speaker A: Donuts and a hot dog. Something like that. [00:17:50] Speaker B: Donuts. Any Claire's? [00:17:51] Speaker C: Yeah, that's pretty good. [00:17:54] Speaker B: No one's gonna figure it out. [00:17:56] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [00:17:57] Speaker A: Donuts. It'd just be fun to watch people look at the sign, like, donuts. Is that me? Am I a donut? [00:18:03] Speaker C: What we're trying to accomplish here, we're trying to accomplish is pointing people the direction of the bathroom to end the confusion and in doing so, cause more confusion. [00:18:12] Speaker B: But Dino Saint Eclair's is very genital focused. We've already said. [00:18:16] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, we got to avoid that. [00:18:19] Speaker A: So these aren't signs to hang in the door to say the name. They're signs to point them. [00:18:23] Speaker C: To point them down the hall. [00:18:25] Speaker A: So these aren't. Oh, I misunderstood. I thought these were door signs. [00:18:29] Speaker C: Well, it's similar, you know, I mean, the same. Same ending. [00:18:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:18:33] Speaker A: So then it's same result. So then you got to decide whether you're going to call it the restroom. The bathroom on the sign. A lavatory. I like lavatory. So it's seldom used. [00:18:44] Speaker B: WC Water closet. [00:18:46] Speaker A: Water closet. That's a great one. [00:18:49] Speaker B: Bogs. [00:18:50] Speaker A: Bug Lou, the John. [00:18:55] Speaker B: What do the Aussies call it? Like the Thundercan or something? Stupid chunderbox. [00:19:02] Speaker C: What if. What if we call Bruce. What do we call the men's room? Wade Bogs. Oh, and we called the women's room. Something we have to come up with another word. [00:19:10] Speaker A: Another bog. [00:19:10] Speaker C: Right. [00:19:11] Speaker B: Lucy Lose. [00:19:12] Speaker C: Lucy Lou. A Wade. [00:19:14] Speaker A: Bossy Lou and the Lucy Lou. Amazing. [00:19:17] Speaker C: You want to do that? I love it. All right. [00:19:19] Speaker A: The Lucy Lou and the Wade Bot. [00:19:20] Speaker B: That's very intuitive. [00:19:22] Speaker C: Yeah, that's pretty good. [00:19:25] Speaker A: One's a man, one's a woman. [00:19:26] Speaker C: You heard it here first. [00:19:28] Speaker A: Well, it wouldn't bog. [00:19:29] Speaker C: That's great. Great work. [00:19:31] Speaker B: Come on, we got to finish the gift swap. [00:19:32] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. We're burning time. [00:19:35] Speaker A: Well, thank you. I was. Yeah. [00:19:37] Speaker C: Blown away by. I'm gonna text that while you're doing this. [00:19:39] Speaker A: All right, here's what I got. Been sitting on this for a couple of weeks. Supposed to also have the Andes candy, but not gonna happen. Some of this is for the room. [00:19:49] Speaker B: Handy candy. Did I ever tell you about. There's a brick. There's a viz thing, A hand shandy. If you know what a hand shandy is, you probably guess. [00:19:58] Speaker A: Well, imagine manual sex of some kind. Yeah. What's the shandy mean? [00:20:04] Speaker B: It just. Just means maybe it's because a shandy, the drink. A shandy drink is kind of fizzy and frothy. [00:20:12] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Like a little hazy. [00:20:14] Speaker B: Like a stimulated male organ. [00:20:16] Speaker A: You're a pig. I don't. I don't want to talk about that kind of talk. Dirty talk. Half. [00:20:21] Speaker B: You said. Half of our listenership wants filth and the other half wants. [00:20:25] Speaker A: They want specific sex stories from you guys. They've already heard mine. They want to hear yours. [00:20:32] Speaker B: But then you said your Mrs. Had put a foot down and said, no more dirty talk. [00:20:37] Speaker A: I think. I don't think my Mrs. Minds if I. We. I talk about her and I. But I don't think she wants to hear about any. Any feelings I'm. I may have about another woman. And you're always trying to lead me into saying those things. How about this woman? She's a hot box of rocks. [00:20:58] Speaker C: Hot box of rocks. I've never heard that one before. [00:21:01] Speaker A: There you go. All right, this is for the room. Richard Pryor here. And now. Put that up in the room. It's for our room. This is like our bedroom. [00:21:07] Speaker C: Oh, we should. We should use that TV behind you, then. [00:21:10] Speaker B: Electrifying. Controversial. Hilarious. [00:21:14] Speaker C: Innovative. [00:21:16] Speaker A: This is also for the rooms. Put this up. Just say no to drugs. Compliments of Neil Swanson. [00:21:21] Speaker C: Say no to pain pills. [00:21:22] Speaker B: Who's Neil Swanson? [00:21:23] Speaker A: I don't know. Insurance guy, probably. This is for Christian because it. [00:21:31] Speaker B: Oh, very on topic. Hey. [00:21:34] Speaker C: All right. [00:21:34] Speaker B: Is that from your personal collection or did you thrift it? [00:21:37] Speaker C: Oh, this. This is going right into the base. [00:21:39] Speaker B: That came from a thread. [00:21:40] Speaker C: Right into the car. CD player. [00:21:41] Speaker A: How can you tell it came from a thrift? [00:21:43] Speaker B: It's cracked. [00:21:44] Speaker A: So nobody else has a crack cd. [00:21:46] Speaker B: Absolutely filthy. [00:21:50] Speaker C: This is a blast from the past. I had this. [00:21:53] Speaker A: We talked about it. I don't remember what we talked about [00:21:56] Speaker C: because I was telling you that they're Neo Nazis. Yeah, yeah. They put him on the back. [00:22:00] Speaker A: He is on the back. [00:22:01] Speaker D: See? [00:22:02] Speaker C: They're embarrassing. [00:22:02] Speaker A: That's why I didn't think he was in the band. [00:22:04] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. This is an exact replica of the one that I grew up with. [00:22:07] Speaker A: There you go. [00:22:08] Speaker C: This is a blast from the past. [00:22:09] Speaker A: Enjoy that in the Subaru. [00:22:10] Speaker C: I will. You better believe it. [00:22:12] Speaker A: I don't know if this will play in your Ford Fiesta Festiva, but here you go. This is. This could be worth money. And if it is, I want some of it. Eddie Rabbit Horizon tonight on 8Track. No, this is Eddie Rabbit. [00:22:31] Speaker B: Oh, that was Eddie Money. [00:22:32] Speaker C: Eddie Money. [00:22:33] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Driving my life away. You've heard that song. That's a great one. I love a rainy night. Do you have an eight track player? [00:22:41] Speaker B: No. [00:22:41] Speaker A: Look at this is in great shape. [00:22:43] Speaker B: I had one once, but I sold it when I had an antique market stall. [00:22:49] Speaker A: I don't know. That's weird. All right, and then [00:22:55] Speaker C: we all get. [00:22:58] Speaker B: Guess where it's from. [00:23:01] Speaker A: Where I can terre. Terre Haute, Indiana. Can barely see that. [00:23:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:23:07] Speaker A: All right, and then we all get hats so we could wear during the show. We all have the same hat. Pure. [00:23:11] Speaker C: Are they adjustable? [00:23:13] Speaker B: Yeah, you'll want. [00:23:18] Speaker C: Well, I won't be able to wear it. Oh, you won't get away. You choose which one you like and I'll. Yeah, and I'll do the best I can with the other one. [00:23:25] Speaker A: Pure Transportation company hats. You like these old time hats, right? [00:23:30] Speaker B: Oh my God, this smells. [00:23:33] Speaker A: Yeah, look at. [00:23:33] Speaker B: It's still got this. The grease from the four. [00:23:37] Speaker A: It smells. How's your smell, Chris? Well, that fits. All right. [00:23:41] Speaker C: It doesn't. Cuz it doesn't have a nose. Where's my son? [00:23:46] Speaker A: Nice joke. Nice. Well done. Well played on the pun. So now we have all have hats that we can wear together in here. Yeah, they say pure on them. [00:23:53] Speaker C: Yeah, I feel like I'm part of a cult. [00:23:55] Speaker B: That's pure. That's exactly how you like your. Your genetics, isn't it? [00:24:01] Speaker A: Yep. Pure. Hey, let me see that. [00:24:04] Speaker C: Your. [00:24:04] Speaker A: Your hat. I left the price tag on it. [00:24:10] Speaker B: You literally just walked those over. [00:24:13] Speaker A: No, I didn't. I got these like weeks ago. They just, you know. You like these old timey hats. [00:24:20] Speaker C: This is what I feel like when we're wearing these hats. [00:24:24] Speaker A: We're a team. [00:24:25] Speaker C: It's like Team Zizu, Team Spanish Flea. Yeah. [00:24:30] Speaker A: All the same hat. [00:24:32] Speaker C: This is why we need videos. We need video. [00:24:34] Speaker A: When are we gonna start the video [00:24:35] Speaker C: stuff on the show anyway? We got the cameras set up and everything. [00:24:39] Speaker A: I got a laptop. I need to bring it in. Well, I thought we had your old laptop. [00:24:43] Speaker B: Your boy here has to learn how to do the. He's getting the cutter. [00:24:48] Speaker A: He's doing great. [00:24:49] Speaker C: What's the cutter? [00:24:50] Speaker B: The thing. [00:24:51] Speaker C: What thing? [00:24:51] Speaker B: The Atem Mini A10, whatever it's called. [00:24:54] Speaker C: Oh, the one that you sent me for the laptop? [00:24:56] Speaker B: No, the thing that's underneath that paper. [00:24:59] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, yeah. I know how to. I. I know how to use that board. I know how to hit the buttons. [00:25:03] Speaker B: Yeah. So you just need a computer. [00:25:05] Speaker C: We need the software. That's the thing. You got to pay for it. [00:25:08] Speaker B: No, you don't need software for that. You need the capture software on the device. Then you just stuff that in it. [00:25:13] Speaker A: He's getting better, though. Like when we started this program. And let me welcome everybody listening to season three. [00:25:19] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. Season three isn't that special. [00:25:22] Speaker A: Nobody thought we'd make it one season. [00:25:23] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:25:24] Speaker A: Here we are three seasons later, years later, still going strong. [00:25:28] Speaker C: It's almost like season four because season two is so long. It was like two seasons. [00:25:32] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:25:32] Speaker A: I was thinking about the seasons and the links, and I don't. I don't think there has to be any rhyme or reason to it. [00:25:38] Speaker C: No. We went over this last week, though. What's your favorite season of Seinfeld? [00:25:42] Speaker A: I don't know them by season. Yeah, they're all blend together. Like, there's no distinctive season, maybe. [00:25:49] Speaker C: Sure. This show, season four is when they. When Kramer moves to la and that's when they start. That's when they start making the show Seinfeld. On the show Seinfeld, they do a very meta thing with that. [00:25:59] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:26:00] Speaker C: That's my favorite season for that reason. [00:26:01] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:26:03] Speaker B: The reason for the season. [00:26:05] Speaker A: But I was watching Sopranos with my son last night, and we're trying to finish the series. We're in season six, and I go, let's bang this out. It's going too long. Let's just knock it out. And we're on season 10. And how many seasons are they thinking? There's like 13. There's, like, 22C. 22 episodes in this season. We can have a long season. 39 episodes is not too long for a season. And season two will go down as our, like, white album. You know, the year we did 39 episodes of this show. [00:26:37] Speaker C: Yeah. Right. You know, like, we can't make two white albums like a box set. Yeah. [00:26:42] Speaker A: It's like Springsteen. [00:26:43] Speaker C: It's kind of all over the place. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. [00:26:47] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. It'll be our Paul's Boutique album. [00:26:50] Speaker C: Yeah, There you go. [00:26:51] Speaker A: Now I have no clue why. All right, can we. [00:26:56] Speaker B: I know we've got to get into the review, but can we talk a little about the World Cup? [00:27:00] Speaker A: Yeah, let's talk about it. Yeah, I'm into it. [00:27:02] Speaker B: It's made me sad. [00:27:05] Speaker C: Why is that? [00:27:06] Speaker B: That I'm into it. Really? Why? [00:27:08] Speaker A: You didn't want to get sucked in. [00:27:09] Speaker B: Fish me in. [00:27:10] Speaker C: Because you were trying to avoid the circus. [00:27:12] Speaker B: Trying to avoid. Yep, exactly. Bread and circuses. We've talked about this, and it just. What is wrong with society that we get Fished in by sports bullshit. I was thinking about that yesterday. I mean, that. That game, England versus Mexico, was a game for the ages, was a thriller. [00:27:31] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:32] Speaker B: But the next day, I must have spent an hour reading, review, you know, what people thought of it, and then it just suddenly hit me like a wave, like, Jesus Christ, got you again. We got you fished in by the circus. [00:27:50] Speaker C: It's entertainment. What's wrong with that? I don't like. You don't have to be fully invested. I mean, maybe that's what you're saying, though, is that you get too invested. [00:27:58] Speaker A: Why can't you just enjoy it? [00:27:59] Speaker C: Yeah, that's what I. That's what I guess. I. When I watch it, I'm just watching, enjoying. Even if it's a team that I'm very much behind, like, you know, my Buffalo teams, if they lose, it doesn't affect my mood or anything. [00:28:11] Speaker A: So this has really brought you down, in a way, it seems like. [00:28:13] Speaker C: Yeah, it's brought you down. [00:28:15] Speaker A: Something that gave you enjoyment, ultimately turned around and. [00:28:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:18] Speaker A: Gave you sorrow. [00:28:19] Speaker B: I thought. I thought I was above it. I thought I would. I thought I was evolving. [00:28:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:28:25] Speaker C: Allow yourself to enjoy something like. Like sport. I think that's okay. [00:28:29] Speaker A: See, I think. I think it's that kind of attitude, though, that you'd evolved out of it, that makes some listeners feel like you're smug, you know, because you're trying to evolve away from us plebs here. Like, you're above us. You can enjoy sports like we enjoy sports. Or is that not better than us? [00:28:47] Speaker C: Is that actual evolution? [00:28:48] Speaker A: We enjoy sports. [00:28:49] Speaker C: It might not actually be an evolution if you. If it's something that's damaging you in the end. [00:28:54] Speaker B: I don't know. Yeah, I know what's gonna happen, though. England's gonna lose, and I'm gonna feel really sad about it. And then what if they win? [00:29:04] Speaker A: How great would you feel if they won? [00:29:05] Speaker B: What if they went. I remember the first time the Blackhawks won, you know, when they're not the first time, obviously, I wasn't the most, and I was like, wow, life hasn't changed. [00:29:17] Speaker A: No. Did you expect life to change? [00:29:20] Speaker B: No. [00:29:20] Speaker A: No. Why would it? But you can enjoy life while that's happening. It's. It reminds me of your weight loss journey. Right. We talked about last week, and I'm anxious to hear what the number is this week. Last week, I think you were 13, right, Christian? [00:29:33] Speaker C: Yep. [00:29:34] Speaker B: I've stabilized at 13. [00:29:35] Speaker A: And this is a real window into you as a person. I asked you about it, and you say, yeah, it's going well. I mean, I've lost a lot of weight, but I'm so upset, kicking myself. I didn't do this last year. Instead of enjoying the accomplishment of losing the weight, feeling better, you immediately take that good feeling. Just like with the World cup and England winning that big game. What an amazing game it was. Harry Kane and all the other slap headed Englishmen. Instead of just enjoying that and riding that out. As soon as you feel enjoyment in life, this is doing real psychoanalysis on you. As soon as you feel enjoyment in life, you have to introduce sorrow because it's as if you don't feel like you deserve it. And what's the reason you do deserve to feel joy? What? [00:30:23] Speaker B: Why? Why would I not feel like I deserve it? [00:30:26] Speaker A: I don't know, something about your old boy, like, see you happy. What are you so happy about? [00:30:32] Speaker B: Actually, no, he was always telling me what a miserable gale. [00:30:34] Speaker A: Wow. Some people just are that way, you know, like the Eeyore character in Winnie the Pooh. [00:30:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:42] Speaker A: You do enjoy it though. Let yourself enjoy it more. [00:30:44] Speaker C: Yeah, I agree. [00:30:47] Speaker A: Why don't you have a big party? [00:30:49] Speaker C: Yeah, right. [00:30:50] Speaker A: It only seems appropriate that you have a big party, a World cup party at your home. That nice home almost all paid off. Right. Speaking very small note on that. Have all of us over or just me and whoever else you want for an English World cup viewing party. Have you thought about that? [00:31:08] Speaker B: No. Because then you would get revenge for all the shit I gave you at. At Patriot super bowl pies. [00:31:14] Speaker A: Oh, you're saying I want to be there when they lose to watch you crumble? [00:31:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:19] Speaker A: No, no, because I'll cry. [00:31:21] Speaker B: If they made the final and lost, I would be crying. [00:31:23] Speaker A: Would you? I noticed that in the World cup, watching all the people they show in the audience. [00:31:27] Speaker C: Very emotional. Very emotional. [00:31:28] Speaker B: You know what's funny with the world? The adverts. Apart from the fact that David Beckham is on about 8 million ads, he's in every ad. [00:31:35] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:31:35] Speaker A: So it's messy. [00:31:36] Speaker B: According to America, the rest of the world, anytime a football game is being played, everyone crams into a very small room. [00:31:45] Speaker C: Yeah, that's true. [00:31:46] Speaker B: Sits on a couch and just goes mental whenever a goal scored. Like you think that's what. [00:31:52] Speaker C: Well, that's cuz that's what they do. [00:31:53] Speaker B: Europe is. [00:31:54] Speaker C: Yep, that's exactly what it is. [00:31:56] Speaker A: I can't picture them doing anything else. [00:31:57] Speaker B: Anytime a football game is played. [00:31:59] Speaker C: Are you telling us that it's different? [00:32:00] Speaker B: Everyone crams in a room and watches it and lighted. [00:32:05] Speaker C: What else would they do. And they're all wearing scarves. [00:32:08] Speaker B: Mostly they'll hit each other, but, you know. Yeah. Weird. [00:32:14] Speaker C: You guys are the ones doing it. [00:32:16] Speaker A: We're not so different, you and I. Us and you, us and them. [00:32:22] Speaker B: Every single advert is that. [00:32:25] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, trying to make it relatable. [00:32:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:32:30] Speaker C: I heard somebody make a cheers the other day and it was to us and people like us. What do you think that means? [00:32:35] Speaker A: Oh, that's very nationalistic. [00:32:37] Speaker C: That's okay. So at first I was like. [00:32:39] Speaker D: I. [00:32:39] Speaker C: First I heard it and I was like, oh, that's really nice. She means to cool people. She's saying to this person, you're cool. [00:32:46] Speaker A: I saw that ad. What is that ad for? I remember that. [00:32:48] Speaker C: What ad? Oh, no, this is in real life. I heard somebody. Yeah, right. And I thought, oh, that's a really nice thing to say, you know, to cool people. Until I realized, wait a second. That could have a completely different meaning. [00:32:59] Speaker A: Yeah. It could be white supremacy. [00:33:00] Speaker C: Yeah. How do you take it? [00:33:01] Speaker B: Maybe she meant like piss heads. We're all in a bar getting s. [00:33:05] Speaker C: It didn't sound like. It didn't sound like that. It was very confident and. [00:33:08] Speaker A: And rehearsed and clanish. [00:33:11] Speaker C: Yeah. Right. [00:33:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:12] Speaker C: So I. I was second guessing my initial reaction. [00:33:14] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:33:15] Speaker C: What do you think? [00:33:17] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know. Cultish almost. [00:33:19] Speaker C: Yeah, right. [00:33:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:33:21] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:22] Speaker C: I don't know. [00:33:22] Speaker A: Let's get more info on this person. [00:33:24] Speaker C: Yeah, I think maybe track her down. Yeah, Our Instagram handle. [00:33:28] Speaker A: All right. When is the next British Isles? When did they play? [00:33:31] Speaker B: Next Saturday against Norway, where they'll be bounced, I think. [00:33:37] Speaker A: Have you seen that guy? [00:33:38] Speaker B: Have you seen Harland? He looks like a Viking. [00:33:43] Speaker A: Like, wow. [00:33:44] Speaker C: Oh, I know who you're talking about. [00:33:45] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. [00:33:46] Speaker A: He's very fat. Like, his features are very strange. [00:33:50] Speaker C: Got a fish smile. [00:33:51] Speaker B: A lot of face. [00:33:52] Speaker C: Yeah, a lot of face. [00:33:53] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:54] Speaker B: But, you know, he's like a megastar in England because he plays for Man City. [00:33:57] Speaker A: Oh, he does, yeah. [00:33:59] Speaker B: But the. The annoying. This is how much of a dipstick I am. For year. A couple of years, I've been saying, like, erling Harland was born in England because his dad was also a football player. He was playing for an English team. So I said, why didn't Erling Harlan pick England as his nationality? When you know you have to pay, Then he could have been in every World Cup. Now, Norway is probably going to bounce England because they always bottle it against Scandinavians. They just can't handle Scandinavians. [00:34:31] Speaker A: England loses the Scandinavian Countries. [00:34:33] Speaker B: Yeah, because. [00:34:35] Speaker A: Because they're happier. [00:34:36] Speaker B: No, because they. Scandinavians are very in control, very down. England's very sort of worked up and frenetic and that. In control and. And calm always beats frenetic. [00:34:52] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. [00:34:54] Speaker B: So there's a really famous. I should have sent you the link. There's a really famous commentary from in the 80s, I think it was, where Norway beat England 2:1. And the. And the. It's in Norway. And the Norwegian commentator loses his goddamn mind and starts screaming the names of famous English people. So he's going like. He's going like, sir Winston Churchill, Lady Diana, wake up from your grave. And he goes, maggie Thatcher, Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me? Your boys took a hell of a beating tonight. And it's like. It's famous because it's awesome, you know, and that's that. As soon as they said England's gonna play Norway, I remembered that. Yeah. [00:35:42] Speaker A: So you're nervous about this game [00:35:46] Speaker B: again? I'm trying to unfish myself. I'm trying to remove this enjoyment from my life and become aloof again. [00:35:53] Speaker C: You're not gonna watch it? [00:35:54] Speaker B: It's probably not gonna work. [00:35:55] Speaker A: When is this next game? [00:35:58] Speaker B: Saturday, four, I think. Yeah. [00:35:59] Speaker C: Are you gonna watch it? [00:36:01] Speaker A: Yeah, he's gonna watch it. You know. [00:36:03] Speaker C: Are you gonna. Are you gonna watch it and be fished in or are you going to avoid it and. And leave the pond? [00:36:08] Speaker B: Fished in like a roll. Mock herring from Norway. [00:36:13] Speaker A: All right, so if they win this one, this is round of eight. [00:36:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:17] Speaker A: And they go to final four, then [00:36:18] Speaker B: they're going to the semi final with probably Argentina. [00:36:22] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. Either way, it's gonna be tough road. [00:36:25] Speaker B: England, Argentina is always on collision course. [00:36:29] Speaker A: This is getting exciting. [00:36:30] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. It's good team. [00:36:31] Speaker A: All right, so if they make it to the semifinals, will you have this party at your house and invite us over? [00:36:36] Speaker B: I never watch sports with anyone. [00:36:39] Speaker A: What about if they make the final? You have to. I mean, it's. It's your country. Everyone here is going to be expecting you to have a big party. How about a viewing party here at the lodge? Nope. With comedians. Yeah, we should do, like, jokes about these soccer players, a comedy World cup show, and then you can go piss off and watch it in a, you know, back room. No, I like the idea. [00:37:02] Speaker C: Yeah, we'll do that. [00:37:02] Speaker A: That's kind of a cool. [00:37:04] Speaker C: Yeah, we can. Yeah, I won't be. I'll put it together. [00:37:07] Speaker A: Yeah, you don't have to be here. [00:37:10] Speaker B: Get face painters. [00:37:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:37:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:37:13] Speaker B: Everyone can gather around a massive couch and jump up when they go. [00:37:17] Speaker C: Yeah, right. What is the date? Wear scarves. [00:37:19] Speaker A: What is the date of that final game? [00:37:21] Speaker B: It's not this weekend. The following weekend, right? [00:37:24] Speaker C: Yeah, it's the same day. I'm playing a show at the Hideout. I think it's the 17th. [00:37:28] Speaker A: Oh, that's fun. Why don't you plug that? [00:37:32] Speaker C: Is this even gonna. No, I think this is coming out after that. [00:37:35] Speaker A: I know, it's fun. [00:37:36] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah, that's the 19th. So it's on the 19th. [00:37:39] Speaker A: Yep. You doing the. The act with Borky? [00:37:42] Speaker C: Yeah, we're opening with dueling pianos. And then I'm playing a show with band called what she Wants. Yep. It's their. Their first full album, live show. [00:37:55] Speaker A: Okay. What are you playing in the band? [00:37:56] Speaker C: Synthesizer. Oh, that's fun stuff like that. [00:37:58] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, like a regular Thomas Dolby over here. [00:38:03] Speaker C: John Balby over here. [00:38:04] Speaker A: Yeah. John Valby and Dolby. [00:38:07] Speaker B: Jean Michelle J. [00:38:09] Speaker C: That's what I was gonna say too. [00:38:10] Speaker B: Who? Jean Michel J. [00:38:13] Speaker A: No, I don't. Who's that? Spandau Ballet. [00:38:15] Speaker B: No, he's a French composer. [00:38:17] Speaker A: Oh, no, I don't know anything about classical music. [00:38:20] Speaker B: Vangelis. [00:38:21] Speaker A: Oh, I know Vangelis. That's who it is. Vangelis from the 80s movies. [00:38:26] Speaker B: No, that's another guy. [00:38:28] Speaker A: Oh, I know. Van Jealous. [00:38:32] Speaker B: Chariots of Fire. [00:38:33] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, that's a great one. Did they do that? No, that's like old classical music, isn't it? The Chariots of Fire theme. [00:38:43] Speaker B: Well, that was like number one in the charts. [00:38:45] Speaker A: I know, but that was. That Vangelis. [00:38:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:48] Speaker A: Oh, it was. I thought those like old. Like Brahms or something. [00:38:53] Speaker B: No, Chariots of Fire was made for the film of the same name. [00:38:58] Speaker A: This sounds like craft work. [00:39:00] Speaker C: Is this a song you're talking about? [00:39:02] Speaker A: Is this it? I saw this with my old boy in the theater. [00:39:06] Speaker B: You saw Chariots of. Even I've never seen that. And everyone in England went mental. [00:39:10] Speaker C: I thought Chariots of Fire was about chariots. [00:39:13] Speaker A: No, it's a road race. The young, old timey runners. [00:39:17] Speaker B: It's about. [00:39:18] Speaker C: Think about Ben Hur. [00:39:19] Speaker B: It was two British chariot race. Two British runners. Yeah, this is it. [00:39:22] Speaker C: Yeah, this is the one. [00:39:24] Speaker A: This is a. [00:39:24] Speaker B: Cool. And the one. Yeah, the one. The Scottish guy wouldn't run on Sunday [00:39:29] Speaker A: because he's so Christian. [00:39:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:39:32] Speaker A: And that's what they had to get around, an excuse. [00:39:34] Speaker B: Now the final was on Sunday and he's like, I can't run in it. [00:39:38] Speaker A: Yeah, he was on. [00:39:39] Speaker C: He knew he was gonna lose. [00:39:40] Speaker A: So did he run? [00:39:41] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:39:42] Speaker A: They Changed the date. You've never seen the film? [00:39:44] Speaker B: No. [00:39:45] Speaker A: What? [00:39:46] Speaker B: Everyone got a boner about it because it was British. Won the Academy Award and it won an Oscar. [00:39:51] Speaker A: So did one. Best Best Picture. [00:39:52] Speaker B: Yeah, that. And everyone got a boner about Gandhi because that won everything as well. [00:39:57] Speaker A: Kingsley. [00:39:58] Speaker C: I wonder, I wonder if our podcast episodes are gonna be taken down because of all the trademark infringem committing over [00:40:04] Speaker A: here with all these songs. Yeah, as long as nobody keeps listening. [00:40:08] Speaker B: Yeah, as long as one of our seven listeners isn't with the. [00:40:13] Speaker C: You would think. But I. Back back in the day, I would make YouTube videos in like the early 2000s. I would make YouTube videos of camping trips etc, and I would use like little clips of popular songs that not even that long and those got taken down. And I mean it was like my 30 friends that watched them, you know? Know what I mean? And those get. Those were removed. The they've got box that scrub the [00:40:35] Speaker A: audio or did they remove the video? [00:40:36] Speaker C: They removed the audio for my favorite one. So it was just the video, but it did nothing without the audio because everything was synced up perfectly. And then eventually that one was just taken down completely. [00:40:48] Speaker A: Well, that's a nice segue to today's YouTube entertainer, Mr. Peter Holmes, who has his own YouTube channel. And at least with this latest special, Silly Funny Boy, they didn't take it down. [00:41:02] Speaker C: Let me ask you, your videos in the version that you watched was. Were there commercials? [00:41:06] Speaker A: Yes, there were millions. [00:41:08] Speaker C: Wow. [00:41:08] Speaker A: Not millions. It wasn't that bad. Wasn't like Richard Pryor when we watched that or I watched that. [00:41:13] Speaker C: I'm living that YouTube Premium life over here. [00:41:15] Speaker A: Oh, you got premium? [00:41:16] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:41:16] Speaker A: What's that cost? [00:41:17] Speaker C: It's 15.99amonth and I need it for my piano shows. [00:41:21] Speaker A: But that's not YouTube TV. [00:41:23] Speaker C: No, no, I don't do that. YouTube Premium, you can play ad free and you don't have to have the window open to still hear the audio. It's what I use to make all the drum tracks for. Okay. [00:41:33] Speaker A: Oh, that's. That's interesting. No, I don't have a premium. But you know what I realized I don't really understand like you. Probably the same way. Maybe not him because you're older. Like YouTube. Like I don't even really get it. Like people, some people just watch YouTube. Like my buddy J Will, we go over to his basement on Eddie. He lives over on Eddie. And down there, like he'll. He'll be been drinking or whatever and he gets out the remote and starts like, like DJing on YouTube. [00:41:58] Speaker C: Yeah, I'll do that. [00:41:59] Speaker A: And, like, showing, like, different things. And I'm like, I don't even know. Like, I never knew it like this. [00:42:04] Speaker C: I'll watch Hourong Police Chases, like, Through Sanford through Los Angeles. [00:42:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:42:09] Speaker A: I just don't know how to watch it. Like, how do you sit down and watch YouTube? I go to YouTube if I need an instructional video on something. But how do you just watch it? [00:42:17] Speaker B: I guess you just fall down the YouTube hole. [00:42:20] Speaker C: Yeah. It's so easy to do. Yeah. [00:42:22] Speaker A: So then it's like an algorithm. So you watch something and then something similar. [00:42:25] Speaker C: It's. It's like. It's perfect for, like, duh time. I have a friend that calls it duh time. At the end of the day, you know, we're just, like, trying to shut your brain off before you go to bed. It's like, the perfect thing for. Yeah, I mean, you're not really. You don't have to pay attention. [00:42:36] Speaker B: You start with one music video and. [00:42:39] Speaker C: Right. [00:42:39] Speaker B: Three hours later. [00:42:40] Speaker C: Right. [00:42:40] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. I just watched every 90s. [00:42:43] Speaker C: Right. [00:42:44] Speaker B: Song. I mean, for you, if, like, you're an SNL head. Right. [00:42:47] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:42:48] Speaker B: So I was telling Christian before we came in, one of the. The Heidi's had this really funny character called Bailey Gizmo who was like, a teenage movie reviewer on Weekend Update, and I watched a couple of them, and now I'm just getting inundated. [00:43:05] Speaker A: And you don't want it. [00:43:06] Speaker C: Right. That's the tough part. [00:43:07] Speaker A: Bailey Gizmort. [00:43:08] Speaker C: You watch one thing once, and all of a sudden it thinks you want it all. It's like, you know when you have, like, your grandma's, like, you know, when you're growing up and your grandma. You mention one thing once, and for, like, the next 12 birthdays, you get that thing. [00:43:19] Speaker A: You got to be careful with that. [00:43:20] Speaker C: Right. [00:43:20] Speaker A: Because you're watching subversive videos. [00:43:22] Speaker C: YouTube. Yeah. Like, I think one time you watch. I watched a police interrogation, and years ago, and it's still all the time. It's, like, recommended for you. Watch this. Watch this murderer be interrogated by the police. Like, dude, that was once three years ago. [00:43:37] Speaker A: I want to shake it from your algorithm, seeing as how you've watched many other things. [00:43:40] Speaker C: I'm sure there's a way I could go into my settings and do that, but I just never have. [00:43:45] Speaker A: Kind of like with your adult video searches, when you search for certain things, then you start getting all kinds of recommendations for the thing, the kind of, you know, sexual peccadilloes you have. Right. [00:43:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:44:02] Speaker C: All right. [00:44:03] Speaker A: Like pregnant gals. Didn't you say on a previous episode of this show that you were sexually attracted to pregnant women? [00:44:08] Speaker B: No, I said I'm sexually revulsed. Oh. [00:44:11] Speaker A: It was me that was sexually pregnant woman, which I am only my wife when she's pregnant. [00:44:18] Speaker B: I'm not reversed. I'm scared. They scare me. [00:44:21] Speaker A: Pregnant woman. Yeah, yeah, it's like a. It's like a. Like a beast. Like a wildebeest. [00:44:28] Speaker B: It's just like. Oh my God, you're fragile. You're too fragile. Sit down. Don't move. [00:44:33] Speaker A: Oh, you're scared that way. I think because they're so burly and big, like coming at you like a different creature. The bodies are completely different. [00:44:40] Speaker C: I think the opposite. Cuz it's like two people in one. [00:44:43] Speaker A: Strong, bizarre. No, it's like a David Cronenberg. [00:44:46] Speaker C: Wait, am I the only one wearing the hat anymore? [00:44:48] Speaker A: Well, I already have a hat. [00:44:49] Speaker B: I think it might be psychosomatic, but my head started itching. I think this is giving me nits already. [00:44:54] Speaker A: Yeah, I think it's. [00:44:55] Speaker C: It needs a wash. Yeah, it does. [00:44:57] Speaker B: I mean, look. Look at that sweat line. [00:45:00] Speaker A: It's got a pungent smell. The hat. [00:45:02] Speaker B: Well, that's the. The foam decaying. [00:45:07] Speaker A: I figured you. You'd have the diagnosis on that. [00:45:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:45:11] Speaker C: Very familiar with that sense. [00:45:12] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:45:12] Speaker A: So that's foam decaying in that old timey hat. [00:45:15] Speaker B: Because some of them as well, I got these old painter hats, you know, the three, the. The ones like Pittsburgh Park. [00:45:22] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:45:22] Speaker A: Where is that? I thought you're going to bring me one of those. [00:45:23] Speaker B: Yeah, I know, but the peaks are all crippily crunchy because the plastic in [00:45:29] Speaker A: them is now corroding or. Yeah. [00:45:32] Speaker B: So when you flex the peak, you hear the cracking. Yeah, yeah. [00:45:35] Speaker A: That's how that Zamboni one was you gave me. [00:45:37] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:45:38] Speaker A: I put it on this morning. My wife said I look like I'm disabled, so I took it off. It's got a very short brim on it. It's almost like a. Like one of those. Like the things with the. The propeller on the top. [00:45:51] Speaker B: Does she let you wear the. The Lawrence Welk one? [00:45:54] Speaker A: I. She is now. That's become like a decoration in my office. I can't wear it. It's too big. It's enormous. [00:46:02] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:46:02] Speaker B: I also look to see it's an old person's hat. So it's like I need a. Need a peak that. That allows to get near me huge [00:46:14] Speaker A: crown and, and peak on it. So I look like I Have a brain injury. When I put it on, look, it's covering some kind of giant hematoma. [00:46:25] Speaker B: Where do old men get those ones with the name of a ship? [00:46:29] Speaker A: Oh, they were on the ship. They were in the service. That's how they get. Or you can get them in, like, a gift shop. Gift shops. [00:46:35] Speaker C: Either they've been on a ship or they've gone to a gift shop. [00:46:38] Speaker B: They were on the ship when it bloody sank from the ship. [00:46:42] Speaker A: They might have served on one of those ships, like the USS Arizona. [00:46:46] Speaker C: Maybe they found it floating in the ocean above the sink ship. [00:46:50] Speaker B: Yeah, that would be. Did I ever tell you my dad's a Vietnam vet story? [00:46:54] Speaker A: He's a Vietnam vet. [00:46:55] Speaker B: No, no, no. [00:46:56] Speaker A: Your father. [00:46:57] Speaker B: Dry cleaner. [00:46:58] Speaker A: He was. [00:46:59] Speaker B: He was dry cleaning. [00:47:00] Speaker A: And your father was a dry cleaner? [00:47:01] Speaker B: Yeah, that was his trade, entire life. But one time, this American guy bought in a jacket to the dry cleaners in England. [00:47:09] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:47:09] Speaker B: And wanted it, you know, clean. You know, spruced up a bit. What he didn't tell anyone was that he'd worn it in Vietnam. There was a bullet hole in it and blood soaking the lining. [00:47:22] Speaker A: No. [00:47:22] Speaker B: So he drops it off. So they go, wow, this thing's. So they replaced the lining, sewed up the bullet, and the guy obviously went effing ballistic. [00:47:32] Speaker C: That's. That's on that guy. That guy's got to bring it in and say, hey, listen, this is the story behind it, and I want to keep it this way. I can't be mad at somebody for doing their job. [00:47:39] Speaker A: Did he want the blood taken out of it? [00:47:41] Speaker B: No, he wanted it like he. He wanted. [00:47:43] Speaker A: What did he want? [00:47:44] Speaker B: I don't know. That's. [00:47:44] Speaker C: Well, he didn't specify it. That's on him. [00:47:46] Speaker A: This is your old boy? [00:47:47] Speaker B: No, no, the guy knows the story. He was in leather repairs, so I don't know if he worked on the jacket or someone. Sure, yeah. You would think, well, why take it [00:47:58] Speaker C: to a dry clean and then just roll the dice and see what happens, and then get mad when they don't do what you wanted, even though you never asked for it. [00:48:04] Speaker B: Although, to be honest, if he took it into an English shop, he could have pointedly said to the person, and they would have gone, yeah, yeah, yeah, and just thrown it in a pile. [00:48:14] Speaker A: So wait, this guy was in the American service? [00:48:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:18] Speaker A: Oh, and he was. Went to a British dry cleaner. [00:48:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:21] Speaker A: With his uniform. [00:48:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, no, this is an ex. This is way after. This is in the 70s. [00:48:28] Speaker A: These hats are musty, aren't they? Yeah, they're Musty. So what do you do to. To clean a vintage hat like this? [00:48:35] Speaker B: Just throw it in the washing machine. [00:48:36] Speaker A: In the washing machine. But it'll get. [00:48:37] Speaker C: It won't ruin the brim. [00:48:39] Speaker A: The brims ruined. [00:48:40] Speaker B: Well, you can get those little plasticky cages. [00:48:43] Speaker D: Oh, yeah. [00:48:44] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. They said to do that in the dishwasher. [00:48:48] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, then you got to put your dishes in there. [00:48:50] Speaker A: Yeah, right. You don't want to eat dishes from a musty hat. [00:48:52] Speaker B: Yours has a name written on it. [00:48:54] Speaker A: Mine says J. Yeah, yeah. Pure, Pure Transportation Company. Okay, we're long. We're long into this and we got a lot to talk about today. [00:49:02] Speaker C: Yeah. But we had some juicy stuff going on. I think it's all right. [00:49:04] Speaker A: We did. I have more, but I'm gonna have to just table that. [00:49:07] Speaker C: I've got a little program. I got a little question that I wrote the top of my list here. Pete Holmes, when he starts out his. His special that we were reviewing. Silly, silly fun boy. He says he looks like a Mormon. And I was wondering what each of you guys, if you had to pick a religion to represent what you think you look like, what it would be? [00:49:26] Speaker A: Protestant for him. Absolutely. 100. [00:49:28] Speaker C: You're supposed to pick for yourself Protestant. [00:49:31] Speaker A: You're the most Protestant looking person I've ever seen in my life. [00:49:34] Speaker B: What does that mean? [00:49:35] Speaker A: I reject like a Protestant deacon or something. [00:49:38] Speaker B: I reject papal bullshit, I guess. [00:49:41] Speaker A: Jesus, [00:49:45] Speaker B: you look like. [00:49:46] Speaker C: Yeah, this is better. This is better. Make fun of each other. [00:49:55] Speaker A: Irish Catholics. Moving on. [00:49:58] Speaker B: You don't look very Irish though. [00:49:59] Speaker A: Because I'm mostly German. Truth be told, I hide that part of me. I'm very German. My grandfather, I don't know his politics, but it could be dark. [00:50:10] Speaker B: Did he. Yeah, he didn't want to talk about it. [00:50:13] Speaker C: Was he dropping any uniforms off at a British dry cleaner? [00:50:15] Speaker A: I don't know, but yeah, he could have been four down from Rommels for all I know. [00:50:25] Speaker B: I thought Nazis went to like South America, then comes. Because they all got sniffed out in North America, didn't they? They all got found when they came here. [00:50:34] Speaker A: Did they? [00:50:34] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. [00:50:34] Speaker A: Like Eichmann. Yeah, Adolf Eichmann. [00:50:39] Speaker B: Anyway. All right. [00:50:41] Speaker A: What? Pete Holmes. Oh, okay. So, Pete Holmes. I forgot to do my research on Pete Holmes. It was my guy and I. And I browbeat you for not. [00:50:50] Speaker C: Well, he's in. He's in Portland, right? Because he says that at one point. [00:50:52] Speaker A: Well, it takes place in Portland. [00:50:53] Speaker C: Yeah. I was wondering if it was Portland, [00:50:54] Speaker A: Oregon, or is he. [00:50:56] Speaker C: Is it Oregon or Washington? [00:50:57] Speaker B: I thought you had Done your research. You picked it to annoy me. [00:51:01] Speaker A: No, I. I picked it because it came up in the algorithm, and I was like, oh, I'll do that one, and to annoy you. But I. I don't need to do the research because I know you know everything about Pete Holmes. Tell us about Pete Holmes and what, you know, his. His ties to the Lodge, his claim to fame around here. He came in at the tail end of my tenure. I remember, you know, seeing him in shows, and he was kind of like a hot commodity at the time. My stock was falling rapidly. [00:51:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:51:29] Speaker A: His stock was on the rise, and I resented him for that. [00:51:31] Speaker B: You were part of the whole alterna scene that had run its course. [00:51:36] Speaker A: Yeah. And the guys that invented it. [00:51:37] Speaker B: You mean because. Because Chicago was now the hotel, you know, comedy scene. [00:51:43] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:43] Speaker B: A lot of people were coming in that want, you know, you never wanted to be a comedian. You were up there to provoke and annoy and confound. But now these guys are coming in and they want to be comedians. They want to be the funny guy. And Pete Holmes was part of that wave. Yeah. [00:52:03] Speaker A: Yes. [00:52:04] Speaker B: That kind of drove out the. The alterners and replaced it with, for one of a better word, set up some punchlines. [00:52:12] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, for sure. And. And at least I resented him for his success, but also for being new. Like, he's five years younger than me, so it was like. Like whatever age I was, he was five years behind me. [00:52:28] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:29] Speaker A: My. Whatever had run its course, and here comes him and TJ and Kumail and all these guys that are really riding. Riding the coattails of both me and Chet Loquacious, who invented the whole form. But whatever. I don't want to go down that rabbit hole every time. I mean, you know, you invent something and people take it and they make it better or they make it different, you know? [00:52:52] Speaker B: Yep. [00:52:54] Speaker A: So. But I don't really know him that well. I didn't like his comedy, I don't think, but I couldn't look at it objectively. But tell me about his. His relationship with the Lodge. [00:53:06] Speaker B: So he didn't really have much of a relationship with the Lodge because it. [00:53:10] Speaker A: I saw him here. [00:53:11] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Yeah. [00:53:11] Speaker A: I saw him perform here. [00:53:12] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. There was. There's. There's an acknowledged thing, and I think it's mentioned in Mike Brnstein's seminal book. Yes. That Pete never got booked as much at the Lincoln Lodge as his stature. [00:53:30] Speaker A: Oh, there's some about that in the book. [00:53:32] Speaker B: I think so. Because cards on the table here, there was two things about Pete that I was a bit iffy on. The first was that he was. I say this really bad because Pete Holmes has done the Lincoln Lodge well even after his fame hit, you know, he has made videos for us and stuff like that. [00:54:01] Speaker A: He's come back and done one nighters here. [00:54:03] Speaker B: But at the time, I guess it was more in my head. Yeah, the time I felt at that point was all of these Lincoln Lodge knockoff rooms had sprung up and so now we couldn't demand the loyalty of the performers. And so performers were just running around doing all the rooms and not really, quote, loyal anymore and that. [00:54:25] Speaker A: So you felt the performer that had performed here did another room. They were disloyal? [00:54:30] Speaker B: No, no, not disloyal. I didn't really give a shit what they did at the other rooms. But I wanted them to treat the Lodge on a pedestal. And if they didn't, if they were just like, well, you're just a room that I have to. [00:54:45] Speaker A: Well, how do they do that? How do they treat it all like it's on a pedestal? How does that even. [00:54:49] Speaker B: Well, you know, you promote that show. You, you do this, you do that. And I felt like there was a growing concern for me that the Lincoln Lodge wasn't a pedestal room anymore. And so Pete was someone I felt was just like, hey, I'm here to do stage time. [00:55:06] Speaker A: Who are you competing with at that time? The Elevated still around? [00:55:09] Speaker B: No, no, no. This is a million knockoffs with the Dave Odd. [00:55:13] Speaker A: Yeah, you're not competing with those. [00:55:16] Speaker B: All of that circus is going on. So I, I personally am starting to feel like, you know, what f these guys. But like, I'm not working my bollocks off to be treated as just another room. [00:55:27] Speaker A: But you know as well as anyone a comedian that's starting out like this, they're, they're. The most important thing to them is just getting up as much as possible. [00:55:34] Speaker B: Right. [00:55:35] Speaker A: And I can't only get up so much here. So like you go ever, anywhere, everywhere [00:55:38] Speaker B: just to get right, but you don't treat them all the same. You recognize this one? [00:55:43] Speaker A: They should bomb at the other shows and do. [00:55:45] Speaker B: Well, no, no, that you promote that. You, you, you hold dear a special room. So I resent. [00:55:52] Speaker A: Had you started the cast member thing at this point? [00:55:55] Speaker B: Yeah, I believe so. [00:55:56] Speaker A: So, so if they're a cast member, they almost had like a, like an NDA or contract to really, they could do other shows. But like. Yeah, yeah, this is where that's kind [00:56:05] Speaker B: of like I say formal. I, I'M not against. You know, I recognize that comedians are stage greedy, right. They're going to take anything and everything they can get. But you know, don't treat them all the same. If it's just some back of the bar, you better not treat that the same as. [00:56:23] Speaker A: I think that some of that could be perceived, you know, on your end. [00:56:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I know, I know, I know. It's in my head. I'm fully cognizant of. It's my psychological problem. [00:56:31] Speaker C: Okay. [00:56:31] Speaker B: So anyway, so I didn't book Pete that much because I felt, well, hey, he doesn't really give a shit about the logic, so why should I? [00:56:38] Speaker A: Who was he running with? Who was his running. [00:56:41] Speaker B: I mean he. The Alphas hooked up. Yeah, but like Kamao, all the Alphas. [00:56:47] Speaker A: Is there a Burns or another Holmes in there? That was his buddy. [00:56:52] Speaker B: No, no, no, he wasn't running with that crowd. [00:56:54] Speaker A: Okay. [00:56:55] Speaker B: He was running, like I say, with, with the Alphas. [00:56:58] Speaker A: With the Bridenstein. [00:57:00] Speaker B: No, not so much because they were more. [00:57:03] Speaker A: So they were the Alphas at the time. Yeah. Was Hannibal in there? [00:57:06] Speaker B: Hannibal really plowed his own for up. [00:57:08] Speaker A: So he wasn't part of their. [00:57:09] Speaker B: No, no. And then the other thing about Pete was I found out he was pretty committed Christian and. Yeah, and that to me is a massive. No, no. So that was the reason he didn't get booked as much as he would. His stature would have dictated. [00:57:31] Speaker A: What do you mean by. I know you're not someone who begrudges someone their religious beliefs, Right. Was he espousing like Christian? [00:57:41] Speaker B: No, no. He was walking around with Bible or anything. [00:57:45] Speaker A: So what do you care if he believes in Christ? [00:57:47] Speaker B: I'm always suspicious of people who hold religious beliefs. [00:57:53] Speaker A: You know, I have deep seated religious beliefs. [00:57:55] Speaker B: Well, here's my thing. If they're beholden to another power, how can they be beholden to me? [00:58:03] Speaker A: Good God, you have a God complex. Jesus Christ. [00:58:08] Speaker C: It makes so much sense now. I get it. Right. [00:58:11] Speaker A: Like why don't you put the work here. [00:58:15] Speaker B: I don't mean me personally. [00:58:16] Speaker C: So much of the mist is just. [00:58:18] Speaker B: I don't mean me personally. No, no, no, I don't mean me personally. I mean if you're beholden to this, how can you be beholden to another cause? [00:58:30] Speaker A: What do you say to every star athlete that is interviewed after winning the game and they said first I got to give, you know, all thanks to God. [00:58:39] Speaker C: It drives me nuts. [00:58:40] Speaker B: I don't care. Shut up about it. [00:58:42] Speaker C: Whatever. [00:58:42] Speaker A: I'm not saying whether that's, that's good to do. That or not. But like all these people that are achieving great things are also very Christian or they're God or whatever they attribute it to that. I'm not trying to argue here. I'm saying like your argument is that, you know, you can't be both, you can't be beholden to God and you know, the art of stand up comedy or what? Is that what you're saying, like? But clearly there are many people that are very devout that also do great things in whatever their field or art is. [00:59:12] Speaker C: Homes is successful. I don't think it has anything to do with success level. [00:59:16] Speaker B: Once you have a religious infection, as it were, you start doing things that are not behold. [00:59:24] Speaker A: You're saying it compromises the art. Are you saying comprises the art? [00:59:28] Speaker C: No. [00:59:28] Speaker B: Common good. [00:59:29] Speaker A: What would the common good be in this case? [00:59:33] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:59:33] Speaker A: Lincoln Lodge. [00:59:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Common good is the cause. Right. [00:59:39] Speaker A: All right, so you're. What this boils down to is you discriminate against people who have religious beliefs. [00:59:44] Speaker B: There's a reason you can't be a socialist and Christian. You can't because you got two things competing. [00:59:56] Speaker A: All right, well, this, I mean this is the whole episode for another time. Your deep, deep rooted, bigoted beliefs. Anyway, you didn't like him because he was Christian, basically, is what it is. [01:00:13] Speaker C: Right. [01:00:14] Speaker A: He believed in Christ, so that, that prevented him from getting some bookings. And they didn't put the lodge on a post. [01:00:19] Speaker B: No, no, no, no. The belief meant that the devotion to the cause was suspect. [01:00:29] Speaker A: I can't, I can't manage that in my brain. So if you can. [01:00:32] Speaker B: We were just talking about it. The guy. [01:00:34] Speaker A: Why does one thing. [01:00:35] Speaker C: I just want to know what religion you think you look like. [01:00:37] Speaker B: The guy. [01:00:38] Speaker A: The guy didn't answer that. [01:00:39] Speaker B: We just was talking about it. The guy who. In Chariots of Fire. [01:00:43] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:00:44] Speaker B: Play. He was on the British Olympic team. Made it to the final. [01:00:48] Speaker A: He was part of the British Isles. [01:00:50] Speaker B: Made it to the final and said, no, I can't run for Britain. [01:00:53] Speaker A: Respect. [01:00:54] Speaker B: I cannot run for Britain today because it's Sunday. You, you, you. Okay, so you, you rejected. [01:01:02] Speaker A: He couldn't do shows here on Sundays because he was in. [01:01:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:05] Speaker A: In church. And that was a problem for you? [01:01:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:07] Speaker C: Whatever. [01:01:07] Speaker A: This, none of this makes any sense to me, but it sounds like you didn't like him because he, he was religious and he. And he did odd shows. Listen, I can, I can Google translate for people. [01:01:19] Speaker B: There's no dislike. [01:01:21] Speaker A: Just like someone who didn't like, you know, people from Colombia or whatever. You don't like religious people. You're a bigot. [01:01:30] Speaker B: No, I. I suspect them. [01:01:34] Speaker A: What do you suspect me of? [01:01:37] Speaker B: Well, what if we. What if we decided to do this podcast on Sunday mornings? [01:01:42] Speaker A: I do it. I'll just go to mass on Sunday nights. [01:01:47] Speaker B: Okay. What if we. [01:01:49] Speaker A: Saturday evening. Sometimes I go on a Saturday forehead. [01:01:51] Speaker B: What if we started every podcast by slaughtering a goat and chanting incantations like Orthodox Jews to summon the. Summon the. The fires of Beelzebub? [01:02:03] Speaker A: I'm not trying to bring my religion in here. And. And do you know the sacraments in here like you described? That's crazy talk. Well, anyway, listen, I really do want to have this conversation, but I also want to get to this Pete Holmes [01:02:16] Speaker C: fella, which we could have communion every time we do this podcast. That'd be pretty sweet. [01:02:21] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:02:21] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:02:22] Speaker A: I make with the kids at my camp do communion, but with candy. We line them up. [01:02:26] Speaker C: Is that sacrilegious? Do they let you do that? You just kind of pick whatever you [01:02:29] Speaker B: want as long as you're indoctrinating them and growing the flock. [01:02:33] Speaker A: We call it grooming. [01:02:34] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:34] Speaker A: In my work. [01:02:36] Speaker B: Yeah. All right. With this whole section's gone. [01:02:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:02:42] Speaker C: Please. [01:02:42] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:42] Speaker A: For your. For your own good. I would say finally the tables have turned. I'm not on the hot seat for my beliefs. You are and should be. [01:02:51] Speaker C: Speaking of abrupt changes, [01:02:55] Speaker A: this all started with you. You started this with the talking about the Mormon thing. Then he said he was Christian. I just want to know about Pete Holmes, the man in the scene circa 2000, 2001. [01:03:08] Speaker B: What do you want to know? [01:03:09] Speaker A: Like, was he a big. Like, was he a hot stepper? Did it. [01:03:11] Speaker B: Was he. [01:03:12] Speaker A: Yeah, he was the guy. He was great. His comedy was good. He was. [01:03:16] Speaker B: What I thought of it is irrelevant. [01:03:18] Speaker A: What did you think of it? [01:03:20] Speaker B: It's irrelevant. [01:03:21] Speaker A: I don't want answers sidestepping that. [01:03:23] Speaker B: No, I'm just. [01:03:23] Speaker A: Because you don't want to. You don't want to upset a potential benefactor of the lodge like Pete Holmes could. Well, he has come back, so tell me about that then. He did come back and do shows here after he made fame. [01:03:35] Speaker B: Yes. [01:03:35] Speaker A: What did he make fame early on with? Well, he was on a show on HBO called the Couch, or couch surfing, something like that. Crashing. He was living. Crashing at somebody's place. [01:03:47] Speaker B: He went to New York and he made good there. [01:03:50] Speaker A: Made good in the stand up circuit. [01:03:51] Speaker B: Yep. [01:03:52] Speaker A: Caroline's Stand Up New York. [01:03:55] Speaker B: Because he's very strong material. He. He had that hit podcast. You. You made it weird. [01:04:04] Speaker A: I didn't Ever. [01:04:05] Speaker B: He was a very early podcaster. [01:04:07] Speaker A: Like Tom Green. [01:04:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [01:04:09] Speaker A: Who was he? Who do you do that show with? [01:04:11] Speaker B: He just. It was him interviewing people in a closet or something, I think. [01:04:16] Speaker A: And the people were famous or they were. [01:04:18] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, he had access to, you know. [01:04:21] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:04:22] Speaker B: Level A. [01:04:22] Speaker A: Gotten in it. Yeah. So he was kind of like Marin at the time, but Marin really obviously blew up bigger than his podcast. [01:04:28] Speaker B: No, I remember Pete's podcast being very big. [01:04:31] Speaker A: Millions listening. [01:04:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:04:33] Speaker A: That's crazy. Can you imagine if we had millions of listeners? [01:04:36] Speaker C: No, I can't. [01:04:37] Speaker A: I was thinking about it on the way in, like, because you always want to, like, show how few listeners we have. And I'm sure it is small, but I don't ever want to know because even if we have 1 or 2 or 2 million, I don't want to know. I want to be able to do the show like we always do it. [01:04:54] Speaker C: That's good. [01:04:55] Speaker B: But I'm always gonna say no. [01:04:58] Speaker A: You can know, but I don't. Yeah, you are. We've covered that. All right, so he's. He came back and he did what? He did like a one nighter here in this building or the old building? [01:05:07] Speaker B: He did one in the old and sold out. [01:05:10] Speaker A: That. [01:05:10] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:05:11] Speaker A: And people came out. [01:05:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Like a weekend, I think. [01:05:14] Speaker A: Weekend of shows. Two shows a night. [01:05:16] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't think I was there, though. I think I was on holiday. [01:05:19] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:05:21] Speaker B: Anyway. [01:05:22] Speaker A: Okay. And then he's not been back recently. [01:05:25] Speaker B: No. [01:05:25] Speaker A: He. Would he do the show or would he do United center? Where. What level of huge is he? Vic. Obviously he would. [01:05:34] Speaker C: I think the Vic is probably a pretty good fit. [01:05:35] Speaker A: He's no United Center. [01:05:37] Speaker C: I mean, Louis CK just said the Vic. That's. [01:05:39] Speaker A: He did. [01:05:40] Speaker C: Yeah. I think that he's like Louis CK status. [01:05:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:05:43] Speaker A: I wonder if poor Louie can get that stink off him. What happened where he masturbated? That's just hard to get rid of. [01:05:51] Speaker C: I thought. I thought everybody stopped caring by now. [01:05:53] Speaker A: Really? [01:05:53] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:05:54] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:05:54] Speaker B: Well, no, the comedy community definitely cares. I mean, holy crap, if we had a canceled comedian in here, never hear the end of it. [01:06:03] Speaker A: He could never play the lot. No, no, it wouldn't be allowed. What if he called up and said, hey, I want to do a night there? You'd have to say, sorry. [01:06:10] Speaker B: Yeah. I'd say borky. [01:06:11] Speaker C: Cool. [01:06:13] Speaker A: Borky would tell him. [01:06:14] Speaker C: Sorry. [01:06:15] Speaker A: Sorry, pal. All right. Well, Pete Holmes, I never. I mean, I know I was in the room for his act, but I resented him so much. I had resentment. Blinders on. I Could never really appreciate him or evaluate him. So this is really the first time I've seen Pete Holmes's act. I'd seen it go by on the screen, but never would watch it. Just like you won't watch the film the Big Sick. You won't watch it. You know about it, but you're not going to watch it. You've probably seen a few clips, so. I've never seen his act. Had you seen his act before this? [01:06:47] Speaker C: I don't think I've ever seen him do stand up. [01:06:48] Speaker A: No, no, you obviously had. Yeah, in the room. [01:06:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:06:53] Speaker A: But had you seen his act recently when he's been doing these big specials and this was on YouTube channel. His own personal YouTube channel. Is that a harbinger of things to come? Are we going to see more of this YouTube? [01:07:04] Speaker B: I don't know. It's a. It's a 800 pound gorilla, which is a very hip label. [01:07:09] Speaker A: Okay, I saw that. Yeah. [01:07:10] Speaker B: So that's what. That's Eddie Peppertone's on it. [01:07:14] Speaker A: Isn't Dennis Miller 800 pound gorilla or is he 400 pound gorilla? [01:07:19] Speaker B: I don't know. 800 pound gorilla is kind of a connoisseur who runs label Billy Burr. [01:07:24] Speaker C: Is it Pat Noswal? I don't know. [01:07:27] Speaker A: I thought it was Dennis Miller has the gorilla. I know that that's bigger, but it's YouTube channel. It's not HBO. This goes back to what Stelling was telling about us, that it's easier for them to just release on their own. I don't know how they monetize that other than with advertising through YouTube. That's it. He's just getting YouTube. Do you see how many clicks it had? How many people have watched? How many do you think have seen this? [01:07:57] Speaker C: When did it come out? [01:07:59] Speaker A: Six months ago maybe. [01:08:00] Speaker C: Okay, six months ago. 1.5 million. [01:08:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Less. [01:08:04] Speaker B: It was. [01:08:04] Speaker A: It wasn't to a million. [01:08:06] Speaker C: Okay. Yeah. [01:08:08] Speaker A: All right. Well, I just thought, you know, like we were always like, how are we going to watch this special? It's on hbo, it's on Netflix, it's on Prime. This was just. It's all accessible. And this was. Swartzen was like, this. Is this what we're going to go to to see more comedy? [01:08:26] Speaker C: I think a lot of the specials will be watching. We've been watching lately, have been on YouTube. [01:08:30] Speaker A: Available on YouTube. This is not just available on YouTube. It's a YouTube. [01:08:33] Speaker C: Primarily YouTube. Yeah, yeah, that, that was a little different. Yeah, I, I like, I hope that's the way it goes because I It's very convenient for me. [01:08:43] Speaker A: I'd like to have a YouTube channel. Is that different than just. [01:08:46] Speaker C: We should start one for the podcast. [01:08:47] Speaker A: Yeah. Should you want to start a YouTube channel for our podcast? [01:08:51] Speaker B: Do you want to? [01:08:52] Speaker A: Well, I did a video and I just posted on Instagram. Do you guys follow me on Instagram? [01:08:56] Speaker C: I don't have Instagram. [01:08:57] Speaker A: I posted one on the way over here. I drove by the Burger King on Western and I was stopped. [01:09:02] Speaker B: So you anti social media? [01:09:04] Speaker A: I am, but I'm back on it today. [01:09:06] Speaker C: I thought you were uncle social media. [01:09:10] Speaker A: Wait a minute. That's a good call to the today's program. And I took a video of the smoke billowing out of the top of the Burger King because they must have really had the flames going for a flame broil. [01:09:20] Speaker C: Lots of whoppers, huh? [01:09:22] Speaker A: Yeah, I posted that. I don't know what you're really supposed to. [01:09:25] Speaker B: What was your clever comment? [01:09:27] Speaker A: I said, look at the Burger King on. Look at the. [01:09:30] Speaker C: Look at this smoke show. [01:09:31] Speaker A: Look at the smoke coming out of here. [01:09:32] Speaker B: Burger King announces new Pope. [01:09:38] Speaker A: What? I don't get it. All right, all right. So Pete Holmes released his own special on a YouTube channel. The production value seemed very low for this. At first it looked like an empty theater because the way it was shot, like, you couldn't see any people there. And then, like, it had a couple zooms, you know, so, like, it would just be like. And it would zoom in like it was on a. Filmed on a phone. [01:10:04] Speaker C: Yeah, I. I think I wrote some. Yeah. Zoom in timing. Yeah. [01:10:07] Speaker A: Wasn't that like. It didn't seem like a phone? Yeah, it was. [01:10:10] Speaker C: It was. It seemed at first like, okay, they're trying to do like. You know, movies will do this, like, with a handheld camera. Right, Exactly. But then sometimes, like. And I was thinking. I don't remember exactly when it was, but at one point he said something that was like the big part of his sentence. And right then it had zoomed in on his face. And I was like, that was perfect. Like, there's no way they could have choreographed that. But it lined up perfectly. [01:10:35] Speaker A: Seemed like it was like two cameras, shoddy cameras that filmed this. [01:10:38] Speaker B: Yeah, it seemed like only two. [01:10:40] Speaker A: But you know what? You don't need anything. [01:10:42] Speaker C: You don't need Big standing there telling jokes. [01:10:44] Speaker A: You just point the camera at the person. Doesn't matter. Right. [01:10:48] Speaker B: What did you think of the way they. They introduced the title of it? About three minutes. [01:10:53] Speaker C: I like that. I wrote down interesting title screen. [01:10:56] Speaker A: Oh, like a Saul Bass title sequence. [01:11:01] Speaker C: It Was kind like Saul Bass. [01:11:03] Speaker A: You know Saul Bass, he did all the, like, Hitchcock title sequences. Like, really cool from films from, like, the 60s, 70s, 80s. You'd have like a cool, like, title sequence. He might have. He might have. I didn't really notice that. [01:11:19] Speaker C: Yeah, well, they. It started with him just doing a few minutes. It just. He went right into it. [01:11:23] Speaker D: Yeah. [01:11:24] Speaker C: There was no intro, nothing. It was just him doing stand up and he just started the show. And then all of a sudden there was a title screen. It just like. It paused the show and it had the, you know, Pete Holmes silly, silly, fun boy in. [01:11:35] Speaker A: Wait, wait a minute. Silly funny boy. [01:11:38] Speaker C: Silly, silly, fun boy. [01:11:40] Speaker A: Is it silly, silly, fun boy? Yeah, I wrote down silly funny boy. [01:11:43] Speaker C: Yeah, I remember even he said that. [01:11:45] Speaker A: Okay. First thing that grabs me is his jar. And he makes it his first joke. His big jarring face. [01:11:52] Speaker C: He has a big face. [01:11:53] Speaker A: He has big facial features which portends what. Like that Howland guy from Norway. If you have big facial features like this, it portends what [01:12:05] Speaker C: you're gonna. [01:12:06] Speaker A: Big genitals. [01:12:07] Speaker C: Oh, really? Genitals. [01:12:09] Speaker A: Genitals. Genitalia. Genitals. [01:12:12] Speaker C: He's got big genitals. [01:12:13] Speaker A: If you have, like a big horsey feature and nose or lips or like whatever jowls or cheeks, anatomically, that almost always portends big genitalia. [01:12:26] Speaker B: For years, Pete's thing was I look like Val Kilmer. [01:12:30] Speaker A: Yeah, he kind of does. Val Kilmer, I would imagine, would have a huge genitalia. Huge. [01:12:39] Speaker B: Did he ever whip it out? [01:12:41] Speaker D: No. [01:12:41] Speaker C: I don't know. [01:12:42] Speaker A: Yeah, in. In the film Wonder. The John Holmes Story. Wonder something. Wonder Wonderland, Wonderwall. He played John Holmes. So there you go. [01:12:53] Speaker B: Those are Holmes theme. [01:12:54] Speaker A: Sure. Was a prosthetic. [01:12:55] Speaker B: But, you know, at one point, I genuinely looked into trying to book Val [01:13:01] Speaker A: Kilmer for what to do. [01:13:03] Speaker C: Like this. [01:13:03] Speaker A: He was Mark Twain thing. [01:13:05] Speaker B: Yeah, for the Mark Twain. [01:13:06] Speaker A: Come here and do it. That'd be cool. [01:13:07] Speaker B: I was like, could I get. [01:13:08] Speaker A: He would do it for 10 people, probably. [01:13:09] Speaker B: Could I get Val Kilmer to come to the Lincoln Restaurant and do. But it was insane. And I thought. And at that time, I'm a. I was a huge Val Kilmer fan. [01:13:21] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:13:22] Speaker B: And like, at the time, I was like, oh, God, could I do it? You know, just when he had, like [01:13:27] Speaker A: a voice box, didn't he? [01:13:28] Speaker B: No, no, this is before that. But this is. But this is when everyone thought he was going batshit. [01:13:33] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:13:33] Speaker B: When he started doing the mark, it [01:13:34] Speaker A: became way more interesting later in life. I feel like Val Kilmer. Have you Seen the documentary? Val? [01:13:39] Speaker B: No. [01:13:39] Speaker A: That's good. Yeah. But I like that idea for that, for this place, like. And I think you should do more of that, like going out and finding like these comedians of yesteryear or like people who are like hanging on to celebrity by a thread. Bring those people in here, you could get them one of them on the cheap. [01:13:56] Speaker B: One of the comedy clubs keeps bringing Stormy Daniels in today. [01:13:59] Speaker A: Really? [01:14:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:14:01] Speaker A: One of the comedy clubs. What do you mean? Zany's? [01:14:03] Speaker B: No, that one. [01:14:05] Speaker A: Improv Park. Improv? [01:14:07] Speaker B: No. [01:14:08] Speaker A: Stars and Stripes. Fosters? [01:14:11] Speaker B: No, it's in Oak Park. What's the name of it? Comedy Plex. What is that ring a bell? [01:14:17] Speaker A: Would you book Stormy Daniels here? [01:14:20] Speaker B: Not really. [01:14:22] Speaker A: Not really? [01:14:22] Speaker B: A little bit. [01:14:23] Speaker A: You'll book her a little. A little Stormy Daniels, maybe. An afternoon delight. Stormy Daniels. [01:14:28] Speaker B: Not a full review? [01:14:30] Speaker A: Not really. [01:14:32] Speaker B: I would imagine it'd be a nightmare to produce. [01:14:35] Speaker A: You'd get all kinds of. [01:14:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:14:37] Speaker A: People coming out of the woodwork. Stormy Daniels. [01:14:39] Speaker B: Could you imagine the Looney Tunes walking in? [01:14:42] Speaker A: Yeah. It's like a porn convention. [01:14:43] Speaker B: I mean there'd be a bunch of wankers like, and then there'd be a bunch of Trump nuts, like protesting outside. Yep. [01:14:53] Speaker A: Be. Be wild. But like do more of that stuff here or like, or like get like Michael Winslow from. From Police Academy to perform here. He probably would happy to perform anywhere. [01:15:05] Speaker B: Were you gonna go see Winslow with me? And he canceled. And I've still got the zickets. The free zickets from Zane's Tickets. [01:15:12] Speaker A: I think I was. [01:15:15] Speaker B: Where is Winslow now? [01:15:16] Speaker A: I don't know. But like there's a whole. There's a whole strata of comedians like that that can be booked here. [01:15:23] Speaker B: The problem with that strata of comedians is they're living in the past. [01:15:27] Speaker A: So what? [01:15:27] Speaker B: The money from their fame. But they don't bring the bombs on seats. [01:15:32] Speaker A: Well, tell them they get the door. And if they have eight people, it's even better. It's legendary. [01:15:37] Speaker B: Does the door. [01:15:38] Speaker A: Well, Stelling did the door, didn't she? Or no. [01:15:44] Speaker B: You told me it was a deal. [01:15:45] Speaker A: Oh, somebody did the door. We've had comedians do the door. They know that they're going to turn out. They want the door. Who was it? Somebody Recently? Some. [01:15:55] Speaker B: We ever do the door? [01:15:56] Speaker C: I don't know. You know, I wonder who. I wonder if Pete Holmes would do the door. We should probably do a review of his stand up special. Silly, Silly Fun Boy sometime. We. [01:16:07] Speaker A: You don't know. [01:16:08] Speaker C: We'll get into it. [01:16:08] Speaker A: Anything about doing a show? Like a show like this. You don't call attention to the warts. You smooth it over. You're like, oh, we've been talking about this too long. You don't do that well, you. [01:16:19] Speaker C: But you have to move on. [01:16:20] Speaker A: You don't tell people how few. [01:16:22] Speaker C: Listen, the warts have been going on for about. About half an hour now. [01:16:25] Speaker A: Get it. You know, put some gloss on this thing. [01:16:28] Speaker C: Well, sometimes you have to expose the warts to the warded. [01:16:31] Speaker A: All right, well, I. I'm. I really want to get to this because I. I'll just put them out here and my cards out here and say, I didn't like Pete Holmes for all the things I said. I love Pete Holmes. I love him and I love his act, and I couldn't love it more. I love this. It was great. I was bellowing, laughing out loud in the daytime, watching this on the TV set. It was fantastic. In your silence and looks that you're giving me, both tell me that you think the opposite about Pete. [01:17:08] Speaker C: Are we at the review session? [01:17:09] Speaker A: Christ, if I talk about anything else, I'll get backhand in here. [01:17:14] Speaker C: Mark, how did you feel about Pete Holmes? Silly, silly fun boy. [01:17:18] Speaker B: I thought the material was awesome. I thought the Persona was grating. Oh, and this is gonna then ping back to me as, oh, you. You never liked Pete. Blah, blah, blah, blah. [01:17:31] Speaker A: Yes. [01:17:31] Speaker B: If someone else had delivered this material in a completely different comedy Persona, I would probably have ranked it as one of the best. This is the best material. But this whole laughing at your own jokes can f right off. This ain't the 70s anymore. And I actually texted someone and said, did Pete Holmes always used to laugh his head off at the same. At his own jokes? Because this is fucking new to me. And the person texted back, yes, he always did. Go ask another old head. [01:18:08] Speaker C: Yeah, all right. The laugh. The laughing at his own jokes thing did get to me as well. It was. I was not a fan of that. However, I felt like the rest of his performance was enough to overcome that. I had never seen a Pete Holmes. I have no skin in the game when it comes into this special, you know, so, yeah, no formal resentment. Right. I went into this knowing basically nothing about the guy, except for you knew of his. I knew who he was. I knew his face. I've probably listened to his podcast before, you know, I've probably seen him on things. [01:18:39] Speaker A: You still have the podcast? [01:18:41] Speaker C: I have no idea. [01:18:41] Speaker A: Does he, Mark? [01:18:42] Speaker B: I think so. There's a lot of content on his website. [01:18:45] Speaker C: This. This one. My. My buddy that lives downstairs from me, Alberto Yeah, Alberto. I was. I was watching this in my music room next to an open window, and at one point. [01:18:58] Speaker A: Here it. [01:18:59] Speaker C: Yeah. At one point he texted upstairs. He said, seinfeld. That's how many times I laughed out loud during this. Is. He thought I was watching Seinfeld because [01:19:06] Speaker A: he knows how much you love Seinfeld and you laugh out loud. Loud during. [01:19:08] Speaker C: Yes, exactly. And I said, no. And I sent him the special. I said, it's this. I said, it's very good. I said, you should watch it. And I really enjoy the fact, you know, he. He brought twat back. [01:19:19] Speaker A: That was great. [01:19:20] Speaker C: You don't hear that word anymore. [01:19:21] Speaker B: I felt that was pandering to me, [01:19:22] Speaker A: that you think it was. [01:19:24] Speaker C: Well, here's the thing. [01:19:25] Speaker A: Just for you. [01:19:26] Speaker C: But here's the thing. He does. He does a whole bit about it. But I had written down earlier, you don't hear twat anymore. He had said it earlier in his act. Now, that was before I knew he was going to do a whole bit about it. [01:19:35] Speaker A: He said it early in the act. [01:19:36] Speaker C: Yeah, he did, yeah. Yeah. [01:19:38] Speaker B: He was very sw. [01:19:40] Speaker C: Very swear. Yeah. [01:19:41] Speaker B: I mean, and that's new to me. That. [01:19:43] Speaker A: Yeah, I thought he was clean. [01:19:44] Speaker B: That really smacked me. [01:19:45] Speaker C: I was surprised, too. Yeah. I always had the impression that he was a clean guy as well. [01:19:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:19:49] Speaker A: He seems all shucksy. [01:19:50] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:19:50] Speaker A: You know, swearing seems like he's gotten [01:19:52] Speaker C: to a point in his life, maybe where he's just like, ah, screw it. But. So that's different. [01:19:56] Speaker A: That was a deviation from his normal act. If we were to go back and watch previous specials, he would not have sworn. Swore like this. [01:20:02] Speaker C: Swore. [01:20:03] Speaker B: Yep. Swan. I made note of it early on. Wow. Pete Homm swears now. [01:20:09] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was great. Well, it made me a Pete Holmes fan. [01:20:14] Speaker A: It's me, too. It really did. But the things that you're saying about him, like, that's the first thing it was arresting his face and his laughing at his own jokes and the way he. He is. I'll just say that, like, I was like, I'm not gonna be able to watch this. This guy's unbearable. But his jokes, like you're saying. And you're saying, were so good. [01:20:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:20:36] Speaker A: That it. It overwhelmed all that not even matter. [01:20:40] Speaker C: Right. [01:20:41] Speaker A: You know what I'm saying? Like, so that's how good it is. [01:20:44] Speaker C: Finally. Like, I can put up with this [01:20:47] Speaker A: because if you turn the sound off and just watched him, you would. You would just hate him by looking at him. Right. Very hateable. Looking and acting. [01:20:58] Speaker B: And the dad clothes. [01:20:59] Speaker A: And the dad clothes. [01:21:01] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. [01:21:01] Speaker B: Pay attention to it. [01:21:04] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's very cultivated. [01:21:08] Speaker C: Oh, just what he wears. [01:21:09] Speaker A: Yeah. I just like, we always complain about how these comedians, they just hit, you know, one theme or they play their identity, whatever, and there's not enough just variety. Like, you know, the Lincoln Lounge. You'll love the variety. This is so much variety in the act. [01:21:28] Speaker C: There's a lot of clever stuff in there too. [01:21:29] Speaker A: Clever just jumps to all different. It doesn't have any real three through line. It's just. But it. The connective tissue doesn't even need to be there. It's just all good. [01:21:38] Speaker C: His bit about people that don't like to pay attention to pronouns. Getting upset when you call their. Their truck a car. Yeah, I thought that was right. [01:21:49] Speaker A: It's pretty brilliant. It's really smart, well written and. And his delivery is good. [01:21:56] Speaker B: One other thing, this whole thing and it, this isn't just a Pete Holmes. This is the scene now. People doing old timey voices. Give him a rest. And he went to that well many times. [01:22:08] Speaker A: I feel like he stole that from Croesus. You know, I think he watched a lot of Croatia's Crush. Does a lot of those voices. [01:22:15] Speaker B: Oh, dude, go to see a show in here. [01:22:18] Speaker A: Now they're doing those old timey English voices. [01:22:20] Speaker B: So many accents and oh, I think [01:22:22] Speaker A: they're pandering to you. Like you felt like he was pandering. [01:22:25] Speaker C: They're trying to get booked now, I thought. [01:22:26] Speaker A: Trying to get booked. [01:22:27] Speaker B: I thought that at one point and I mentioned it, I think to Deanna and Deanna goes, no, that's just like rife in the scene now. [01:22:38] Speaker A: So I was totally blown away. Ready to hate this guy. Ready to, you know, push your buttons a little bit about, you know, why he, you know, you thought he was great, which I didn't know you didn't think he was all that great. And I just did a 360 on this. [01:22:53] Speaker B: I never said Pete Holmes isn't an excellent comedian. [01:22:56] Speaker A: No, I know. [01:22:58] Speaker B: Still an ex. This was, I thought, raid comedy. [01:23:01] Speaker A: But I guess what I thought was, I was expecting that you were full fanboy over him and what he was at the scene and how he was like king of the lodge and all this. And turns out that that was not your opinion at the time. There's a condemnation of Pete Holmes. But I'm also a little surprised that, you know, you, you take, you know, such umbrage with, with the laughing at the jokes. You know, who else laughs at their jokes and has done quite well for himself in comedy. [01:23:34] Speaker C: Who's that? [01:23:36] Speaker A: David Chappelle. Have you heard of him? He's a done. [01:23:39] Speaker C: Seen him around. [01:23:40] Speaker A: He had his own show. He did stand up. African American stand up. Constantly hitting. Knee slapping is the mic on his knee. And laughing every time he says. I agree. At first it was like, you can't laugh at your own jokes like this when I saw Holmes and Chappelle. But, like, when the jokes are that good and you can't suppress the laughter, I think that a good comedian can smile and laugh at their own jokes because they're so good. But if the jokes aren't good. No, Then you have no business doing that. His jokes are that good. I don't necessarily like his facial expressions. [01:24:18] Speaker B: Right. [01:24:18] Speaker A: It's too. Too big. The te. Like, you see the picture I drew? [01:24:21] Speaker C: I got a picture too. [01:24:22] Speaker A: Like, this is. Yeah. Like, he's coming at me with his face. But that's his first. That's his first bit is about his big face. [01:24:29] Speaker B: He's like a Norwegian footballer. [01:24:31] Speaker A: Yeah, Right. But he. He can do whatever he wants. If his act is this good, [01:24:39] Speaker C: I'll certainly watch the next one. [01:24:41] Speaker A: I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he's the best comedian we've seen in season three. [01:24:45] Speaker B: Yeah, he hasn't actually. This wasn't even the most recent special. I know. [01:24:50] Speaker A: No, it is. [01:24:50] Speaker B: No, it isn't. [01:24:52] Speaker A: This is like, four months ago. This came out. [01:24:55] Speaker B: No. [01:24:56] Speaker A: Silly, silly funny boy. Oh. [01:24:58] Speaker C: Regardless if this is the most recent one, I still plan to watch the next one. [01:25:02] Speaker A: I want more Pete Holmes. [01:25:03] Speaker B: All the previous. [01:25:04] Speaker A: Can we get Pete Holmes involved here? Would he come back to the lodge? Would he let me open for him? [01:25:10] Speaker C: Yeah, definitely. [01:25:11] Speaker A: Does he know me? Pete Holmes. [01:25:13] Speaker C: He's sitting in a room talking about you somewhere. [01:25:18] Speaker A: I'd like to be his manager because I feel like you could get more out of Pete Holmes. Like, he's so good, but he's like. Like why he upsets you. Like, he's upsetting a lot of people, I think with his face and is laughing and stuff. If you could manage that, you could probably take Pete Holmes very far. Right. What's with you? You want some kind of pill? Take some pills. [01:25:38] Speaker B: Someone would argue that he already has gone far, what with being. [01:25:42] Speaker A: Well, he could be the next Kumail level. He could be in an. It could be in a Marvel movie and stuff. [01:25:50] Speaker B: I mean, he ran a show with Kamal in London. In London. In New York. There were big buds. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they're still mates, I'm guessing. Yeah. Could be wrong. [01:25:59] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:25:59] Speaker A: And tj, I. I see. I feel TJ in his act. I feel like Pete has absorbed some tj. Like from the first. When he first comes out and starts talking like that. The. The biggishness of his act and his mannerisms are very TJ to me. [01:26:14] Speaker B: I mean, certainly highly adjacent. [01:26:16] Speaker A: Yeah, they're very adjacent. They're peers. [01:26:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:26:19] Speaker A: You absorb things from your peers. [01:26:23] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:26:27] Speaker B: You're looking at. [01:26:27] Speaker A: You're trying to get out of here. Like you're just like. Like you. When you visit your parents, you're just like, stop talking. So that you get ready to leave. [01:26:34] Speaker B: No, it feels like. [01:26:35] Speaker A: Like you're getting ready to leave, so you just stop saying anything new. You want this, this show to end? Yeah. [01:26:40] Speaker C: Wait for the wheel to stop spinning. [01:26:42] Speaker B: I'm setting my pace. [01:26:43] Speaker A: Well, it won't stop with me. I'll keep going and. Yeah, yeah, that's why you're stopping. That's a new signal. Like, when you guys stop talking, it's time for me to stop. [01:26:51] Speaker B: The best bit was the God bit. [01:26:54] Speaker A: Yeah, it was good. I was. I don't think it was funny as much as it was, like, profound. Like, you can't. There's no God. God isn't in the writing. You know, you're not going to see him. It's brilliant. Smart. Very smart. That wasn't my favorite. I thought the. I laughed so hard at the twat bumper sticker thing. [01:27:15] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:27:16] Speaker A: Like, sofa, smoke pot, eat twat, smoke a blunt. Yeah. And then the Subway was pretty good. The hung. The six inch meatball is a hungry girl's choice. [01:27:27] Speaker C: Yeah. That's a good sandwich, though. [01:27:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:27:30] Speaker B: And there was no ending to the stung by scorpion anecdote. [01:27:34] Speaker A: No. Yeah. [01:27:34] Speaker B: Like he said, the doctor said you'll die in 24 hours and then left. [01:27:38] Speaker A: Yeah. He forgot about it, like. [01:27:39] Speaker B: Well, you didn't. [01:27:40] Speaker C: Right. [01:27:41] Speaker B: He didn't. There's an endpoint. [01:27:43] Speaker C: I didn't even notice that, you know, [01:27:44] Speaker A: it was most that I had no idea. I had no ideas from Boston. We could have connected over that, him [01:27:48] Speaker C: and I. Oh, yeah. I like. I like that accent that he does. [01:27:50] Speaker A: He does good Boston observation stuff. It's like, I didn't know ideas from Boston. I wonder where in Boston do you know. You know, I'm from Manchester by the sea. You know that, right? Like the movie. Let's take that for what it's worth. [01:28:07] Speaker B: You know, Manchester isn't by the sea. [01:28:09] Speaker A: The one I'm from is Manchester is. Manx. [01:28:12] Speaker B: Isn't by the sea, 30 miles inland. [01:28:16] Speaker C: We never. [01:28:17] Speaker A: I'm from Manchester, Massachusetts. We never called it Manx like you call Manchester Manx Manx, boys. [01:28:22] Speaker B: It's a Mank. [01:28:23] Speaker A: Mank Never called it that. [01:28:26] Speaker B: My best mate growing up was Phil Manchester. [01:28:30] Speaker A: Phil Mank. [01:28:31] Speaker B: And we called him Mankind Man. [01:28:33] Speaker A: Phil Manchester. That's a great last name. [01:28:35] Speaker B: Manchester Mank Walk. [01:28:37] Speaker A: All right. [01:28:38] Speaker B: Can you do the Mank walk like the Oasis boys? [01:28:40] Speaker A: Explain this to me and then we'll go, because I know you guys got somewhere to be, obviously. Why at the end of the. When. When Great Britain beat Mexico, why did they all sing that Oasis song like that? Seems so bad. [01:28:57] Speaker B: It's a FIFA branding exercise. [01:29:01] Speaker A: Huh? [01:29:01] Speaker B: FIFA told every team pick a song. [01:29:05] Speaker A: They did. [01:29:06] Speaker B: So America. So America picked Sweet Caroline. [01:29:09] Speaker C: Mr. Brightside. [01:29:10] Speaker B: No. [01:29:10] Speaker D: Yeah. [01:29:11] Speaker B: Mr. Brightside Country Roads. [01:29:14] Speaker A: Oh, [01:29:16] Speaker B: it's just FIFA branding. I mean, fans. Football fans sing anyway, naturally. They don't need to be told what to say. [01:29:25] Speaker A: It's so bad. [01:29:26] Speaker B: And they went to England and said, what song should your fans be made to sing? [01:29:31] Speaker A: But they were really singing like they enjoyed it. Well, yeah, they're into it. Like, they showed the fans, like, yeah, that's. [01:29:38] Speaker B: What about the Viking Road? You like that? That's pretty cool. [01:29:42] Speaker A: I didn't. I only caught a little bit of that. That guy banging that drum. [01:29:46] Speaker B: Yeah, that's cool. [01:29:47] Speaker A: They. That's their thing that they're allowed to do. Why can't you do something more cultural [01:29:50] Speaker B: than I think they. It started the last World Cup. Iceland do a thing where they do, like, this coordinated clapping. [01:30:00] Speaker A: Iceland made the World Cup. [01:30:02] Speaker B: Not this one. The last one. [01:30:04] Speaker A: Wouldn't think they'd feel that team. [01:30:05] Speaker B: They knock England now. [01:30:07] Speaker C: What? [01:30:07] Speaker B: So Iceland. Yeah, so they do this. [01:30:12] Speaker A: Oh, I'm thinking of Greenland. [01:30:14] Speaker B: And I think. I think the FIFA saw that and said, yeah, we can. We. We can monetize this. [01:30:20] Speaker A: But it's so forced. If each team has to do something like what. What does Cape Verde do? [01:30:24] Speaker B: I don't know. [01:30:25] Speaker A: Yeah, what's. Like, we got to come up with something like a cheer, like a camp cheer. [01:30:30] Speaker B: Dumb. [01:30:31] Speaker A: Dumb. [01:30:31] Speaker B: It is dumb. [01:30:32] Speaker A: Who's the old head of FIFA, the bastard. What, Jules Verne or like Seb Soc. What was his name like, has a name like that? Like Seb Saka. [01:30:41] Speaker B: I thought it's Infante. I don't know. [01:30:44] Speaker A: He kept corruption charges. Remember that guy? [01:30:46] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. FIFA's corrupt. [01:30:49] Speaker A: All right, well, next time we meet, we're gonna be seeing the comment, who's choosing? [01:30:54] Speaker C: Well, we got to do our rating first. [01:30:55] Speaker A: Oh, glad to. Happy to do that. [01:31:00] Speaker C: I have, I've, I've written down here my recommendation. I don't know if I want your rating. [01:31:05] Speaker A: Has to be. When we do the best of season three, it's got to be a similar rating to, if not the same rating as you give it now. Right. Because I. In the best of season two, you did. You gave people shite ratings during the episode and then put them on your best. No, you did. Whitney Cummings. Come on. [01:31:23] Speaker C: Well, what are we doing? What out of five. [01:31:27] Speaker A: Five twats. [01:31:28] Speaker C: I was. That's what I had written down, but I feel like I've already. [01:31:30] Speaker A: Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you that about. Do they really say say it as twait or what? What did he say? Like in England. Twat, twat. [01:31:38] Speaker B: You've heard me say it enough. [01:31:39] Speaker A: Twat. [01:31:40] Speaker B: My family. [01:31:41] Speaker C: It's like saying wet with T in the beginning. [01:31:44] Speaker B: You guys switched the A for an R. [01:31:49] Speaker A: He said twait. [01:31:50] Speaker B: No, he didn't. He said it how an English person would say it, which is an A, not an O. Yeah, but don't act [01:31:57] Speaker C: like you guys don't do the same thing with other words. [01:32:00] Speaker B: What? [01:32:00] Speaker C: Substitute other. [01:32:01] Speaker A: Yeah, like innovative. [01:32:03] Speaker C: Right, Innovative. [01:32:05] Speaker B: Why do you keep saying innovative? [01:32:06] Speaker C: It's innovative. There's an A, it's not an I. Yeah. [01:32:13] Speaker A: You say hamburger. We say hamburger. Oh, by the way, we've been using that a lot. Remember you taught us about hamburger means a woman's vagina. [01:32:24] Speaker B: Hamburger shot. [01:32:25] Speaker A: Yeah, Me and a lot of the guys been using that a lot. Talk about hamburgers. [01:32:31] Speaker B: I'm sure your Mrs. Is. I'm back on the list. Back on the list. [01:32:36] Speaker A: I will say this. She's got a nice hamburger. [01:32:40] Speaker C: How many hamburgers do you give Pete Holmes? [01:32:42] Speaker A: All of them. [01:32:44] Speaker C: Five out of five out of five [01:32:45] Speaker A: hamburgers we get mauled hamburgers all the Subway. [01:32:48] Speaker C: Five out of five patties. [01:32:49] Speaker A: Turkey on white. Six inch meatballs. [01:32:52] Speaker B: You should say how many meatballs in [01:32:55] Speaker C: the beat homes sub in the 6 inch? Yeah. How many, how many inch long meatball sandwiches? [01:33:00] Speaker A: How many can go in a six inch? I think realistically it's only. They only fit three. Although the subway meatballs are small. [01:33:07] Speaker B: Yeah. I would say you could fit up to five meatballs in a subway. [01:33:11] Speaker C: Right? Yeah. If you, if you're getting hooked up because you know the person working there, you could definitely do that. [01:33:15] Speaker B: So how many are you putting in your Pete Holmes sub? [01:33:20] Speaker A: Jeez, do I want to go all five meatballs? Is this the. I really enjoyed It. But. Yeah. [01:33:30] Speaker C: Well, we got time. Let's think about it. [01:33:31] Speaker A: Yeah, we do. [01:33:33] Speaker B: We're only an hour and a half. [01:33:34] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:33:35] Speaker A: 5. I'm gonna live to regret this. I'm giving them all five meatballs. [01:33:40] Speaker C: All right. Well, five out of five. [01:33:44] Speaker B: All right. [01:33:44] Speaker C: I'm giving Pete Holmes four out of five meatballs in that. [01:33:46] Speaker A: That's pretty good rating. [01:33:47] Speaker C: Yeah, I really. [01:33:48] Speaker A: I didn't think you're gonna go that far. [01:33:49] Speaker C: Thought it was really great. [01:33:50] Speaker A: This is what we've all been waiting for here, though, this review. Funny, silly, funny boy. You know how he feels about him in the past. It's not. Doesn't have a high evaluation of him. [01:34:04] Speaker B: I'm going to give four meatballs. I was on the fence. Three. Three or four? It's four. [01:34:12] Speaker C: Oh. [01:34:13] Speaker B: But I will say that's guilt. There's a lot of guilt in the fourth meatball. [01:34:16] Speaker A: I don't feel like you really want to give him four meatballs. [01:34:18] Speaker B: Guilt is. Is a very important ingredient in the fourth meatball. [01:34:24] Speaker C: Guilt. [01:34:24] Speaker A: How? [01:34:25] Speaker B: Like I. I have. [01:34:26] Speaker A: This might get back to him. [01:34:28] Speaker B: I've wronged Pete Holmes in the past. [01:34:30] Speaker A: You have? You didn't say that. [01:34:31] Speaker B: A fourth meatball is a guilty meatball. Is my. Is my meatball branch. [01:34:38] Speaker C: That's the one that. Guilty beat the ball. [01:34:40] Speaker B: My Olive Garden branch is the fourth meatball. [01:34:43] Speaker A: That's pretty good because you really think it's three meatballs. But because you wronged him, you're giving him a fourth meatball. [01:34:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:34:48] Speaker A: How did you wrong him? I don't. Didn't get that part. You just. [01:34:51] Speaker B: You just didn't give him stage time. Not that. Not that I'm. I. I'm. I owe anyone stage. [01:35:00] Speaker A: No, no. Nobody wouldn't, brother. All right. This is Mark. [01:35:04] Speaker B: Hey. We're all flawed. We're all flawed. [01:35:08] Speaker A: Gary's certainly exposed his flaws today with his attack on Christians and anyone of religious belief. [01:35:14] Speaker C: I personally feel his hatred of Pete [01:35:17] Speaker A: Holmes and not giving him enough stage time. But he's. This is his mea culpa for Pete Holmes. Pete, I'm sorry. I should have gave you more stage time and should not have discriminated against you because you have Christian beliefs. You heard it here, folks. [01:35:39] Speaker C: Who's the next meatball that we're watching? [01:35:40] Speaker A: It's from you. [01:35:41] Speaker B: Is it from me, I hope. Oh, yeah. I've assembled a whole list of female comedians specifically to annoy you. [01:35:50] Speaker A: I like female comedians, but I'm going with Stellan, one of my favorite. [01:35:55] Speaker B: We're keeping the Lodge connections going with Lisa Traeger and Night Owl. [01:36:00] Speaker A: Liz Traeger. [01:36:02] Speaker B: Lisa Traeger. [01:36:03] Speaker A: Is there a Liz Traeger? [01:36:04] Speaker B: No, there's a Lisa Traeger and Night Owl. [01:36:09] Speaker A: Night Island. She's from the Chicago. From the lodge. [01:36:12] Speaker B: She's grounded. In Chicago. [01:36:14] Speaker A: Yeah, she'll lodge it. [01:36:16] Speaker B: Many appearances at the lodge. [01:36:17] Speaker A: How about on tv? She been on TV shows? TV program? [01:36:22] Speaker B: I don't think so. [01:36:24] Speaker A: So she can't be that big. She's like a YouTuber. [01:36:29] Speaker B: I don't know how big she is. [01:36:30] Speaker A: Well, we'll find out when you come back with research, I hope. All right. Until then. Well, I love this program. [01:36:47] Speaker C: I think. [01:36:47] Speaker A: I think when we don't do it, it affects. [01:36:55] Speaker C: This must be lost. As honest. [01:37:02] Speaker D: 1.
