Episode Transcript
[00:00:08] Speaker A: Well, are you familiar with sublimation, the psychological term?
[00:00:11] Speaker B: No. What does that mean?
[00:00:13] Speaker A: To sublimate means to channel your urges.
For one thing, say it's sex, right? Say you're. Say you're a nymphomaniac and you have irrepressible sexual urges and you have no healthy outlet for that. Right.
You have no mate to make love to constantly or whatever.
You sublimate those urges into something else, like, say, tennis or working out or art.
[00:00:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:00:47] Speaker A: Or eating.
[00:00:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:00:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:00:49] Speaker A: Hopefully sublimate it in a healthy way.
[00:00:52] Speaker C: In the kale.
[00:00:53] Speaker B: I don't see how that makes a T shirt.
[00:00:55] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't. That's why I'm curious about the process of T shirt sublimation. I didn't. I don't see the relationship.
[00:01:01] Speaker B: So you're saying you make T shirts because you can't get a shack?
[00:01:05] Speaker A: Well, you could sublimate your sexual urges into making T shirts, which seems like what you do in the basement here.
Right.
But now I'm. Now that I'm thinking more about it the way you kind of described it, though you admittedly don't understand the processes.
You're burying whatever it is, ink or whatever, deep into the fabric of the shirt. Not on the surface. It's going deep within it, which would make me think it's longer lasting, although maybe not as vibrant.
[00:01:35] Speaker C: Yeah, it won't wash out.
[00:01:36] Speaker A: Not gonna wash out.
[00:01:37] Speaker C: Right. It's like a tattoo.
[00:01:39] Speaker B: I'll research. Yeah, for next week's.
[00:01:42] Speaker A: You won't. We'll forget it. We'll.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: I will. Because I'm interested. Now.
[00:01:46] Speaker A: There was something else. You were going to research. Remember he said, I'm going to look into that for next week and never heard about it again.
Just saying I'm not, you know, not hating on you.
[00:01:56] Speaker B: Add it to the agenda.
[00:01:58] Speaker C: Yeah, we can check the transcripts.
[00:02:01] Speaker A: Check the transcripts again.
I got very little on the agenda today, but thankfully you.
You've come prepared, saying you've got. You weren't in here Christian, but he said, I got a lot of good for today.
[00:02:18] Speaker C: All right?
[00:02:18] Speaker A: And I go, what? What do you mean? Like verbal stuff or gifts? Yeah, he said, I got no gifts.
He said in a break.
[00:02:27] Speaker B: Yeah, from the Appalachians.
I ain't got no gifts. No, I don't got none.
[00:02:34] Speaker A: That's pretty good.
[00:02:36] Speaker C: Wear it.
[00:02:36] Speaker B: Say it. You know, you. You have to say it.
[00:02:39] Speaker A: Oh, it's Carl.
I reckon you. You ain't got no give or me to give.
I reckon you ain't got no gift to give.
I Reckon you want to know why it is I'm in here.
I reckon.
[00:02:59] Speaker B: You're not doing that again? No, I.
I ain't got no gifts. Just got you some fries.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I could do the fries.
[00:03:08] Speaker B: I got some fries. Maybe I'll do a different scene.
[00:03:11] Speaker C: Every week is a real movie.
[00:03:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:03:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, if you're gonna do it, you're gonna have to do it in chronological, like. Yeah. Listeners could tune in and gradually hear the entire sling blade.
[00:03:25] Speaker A: Will you play against me? We play John Ritter.
[00:03:29] Speaker B: What's that? Is that some sort of comment about my effeminate gate?
[00:03:33] Speaker C: No.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: You have hair similar to John Ritter in that film. Do you remember his hair?
[00:03:36] Speaker B: No, I don't. He had. He had like a spiky flat top, didn't he?
[00:03:40] Speaker A: Almost like an Ed Grimley or something.
[00:03:42] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:03:44] Speaker B: Who was the woman in it?
[00:03:46] Speaker A: Jeez, I don't remember.
[00:03:50] Speaker B: It's kind of weird that you remember all of the male characters. Name actors.
[00:03:56] Speaker A: John Ritter's remarkable.
Jim Jarmusch is in that film.
[00:04:00] Speaker B: Yeah. He normally does a cameo.
[00:04:02] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
He's like, no way.
[00:04:05] Speaker B: It's not his film though.
[00:04:06] Speaker A: No, it's not his film.
It's. It's Billy Bob's film, I think, isn't it? Didn't he direct it?
[00:04:11] Speaker C: Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
[00:04:12] Speaker B: It's jamouche. Got the full on quiff, like.
[00:04:16] Speaker A: No, he. I don't. He's behind the counter. The ice cream place or maybe where he gets the fries and he's like, you know, the fast food worker. So I don't know if we get the whole jarmouche head in there, but. Yeah, maybe we have a view.
[00:04:30] Speaker B: I'd love to have his hair caught.
Imagine me walking around with Jim Jarmusch's hair. Be unstoppable.
[00:04:37] Speaker A: Yeah. What about the wig? Have you been wearing the wig?
[00:04:40] Speaker B: Too tight, man. It's like squeezing my brains out.
The old lady was not keen, was she?
[00:04:48] Speaker A: She's a weak in the knees. When you walked in with that thing,
[00:04:52] Speaker B: weaken the knees laughing, maybe. Yeah.
[00:04:55] Speaker A: I brought up. I brought a gift for. I'm not gonna refer to her as your old lady. Your missus today.
So I've got something for her and you.
I brought gifts.
[00:05:08] Speaker B: Do you want me to run down the basement and get one?
[00:05:09] Speaker C: No, make a couple T shirts.
[00:05:11] Speaker A: The one from last week's hanging on the back of the door. Yeah. Can you make a T shirt quick for us?
[00:05:16] Speaker B: I was gonna get one of the ones that's been left down there for the last five years.
[00:05:20] Speaker A: Other Ones hanging up.
[00:05:22] Speaker B: No, no, there's a lot. There's two boxes full of them of lodge T shirts. No, no, they were. Do you remember camp comedy? And they printed them all.
[00:05:30] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:05:30] Speaker B: And then people had to pick them up from here. And we've still got 200 of the canutes.
And then there's a load of camp comedy.
[00:05:38] Speaker A: It was like a camp for a summer camp.
[00:05:40] Speaker B: No, it was a shock.
[00:05:41] Speaker A: Hey, how about that idea? You take me and my expertise in running youth summer camp and in the summer you, you have a comedy camp. Is that what you had? Is that we were talking about for kids and we teach them stand up comedy. I have taught stand up comedy to youth at various schools throughout the city. I taught Michael Jordan's kids stand up comedy.
Michael Jordan came and saw his daughter perform in my comedy show.
[00:06:05] Speaker B: So when he was crying.
[00:06:08] Speaker A: No. This one? No. Well, before that. Well, before that.
[00:06:12] Speaker B: It's a good meme, that.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: Yeah. What do you think about that? A camp for kids here?
[00:06:18] Speaker B: I think it's the worst possible idea ever.
[00:06:21] Speaker C: Why is it the worst idea?
[00:06:22] Speaker B: It's not the worst idea. We do, you know damn well we do a day class thing.
[00:06:27] Speaker A: Well, you do that thing with the kids. High school.
[00:06:29] Speaker B: But that. Could you imagine a bunch of parents filing in and then the brats are just gobshight in a way. And at the end of the show, they're like, you taught my kid to say that.
[00:06:41] Speaker A: Yeah. So here's, here's a quick story about when I did a show, a kids show.
I was, I was helping the kids write the jokes, right. Because they didn't know from.
[00:06:51] Speaker C: Sure.
[00:06:52] Speaker A: From Adam what a joke was. Right. So I made it, you know, you know what kids think are funny. So like, you know, poop jokes and stuff like that.
[00:07:00] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:07:01] Speaker A: And so I had this kid, I go, when you go out there, first, your first joke is gonna be this.
Grab the microphone and then make, make a smell gesture with your hand and say, whoa, somebody in here wearing a pull up.
[00:07:15] Speaker C: Right.
[00:07:16] Speaker A: It was like fourth grade or fifth grade or something like that. And apparently there was a kid in the audience wearing a pull up who like, was too old for pull ups and got upset and the parents were upset at that joke alone.
[00:07:31] Speaker B: I'm upset because I don't know what a pull up is.
[00:07:34] Speaker A: Pull ups. Like a. It's like an adult diaper, but it's like, it's a, it's a toddler diaper. They can pull up and pull down because they can't control their bowel Track.
[00:07:44] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[00:07:46] Speaker A: Anybody? Somebody in here wearing a pull up Crickets? No Laugh. I mean, these kids bombed like nobody's ever bombed before because they just don't have timing. You know, kids don't understand timing.
[00:08:01] Speaker B: Every parent sitting in there is waiting to laugh at their kid, but then just like, yeah, nothing stone faced for the others.
[00:08:08] Speaker A: Yeah, kids, kids can't conceptualize. They haven't lived long enough to stand up comedy, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, yeah, it's a fruitless endeavor, but make a few.
[00:08:22] Speaker C: But we should do it.
[00:08:23] Speaker A: We could make a few bucks on it though. Print up shirts, have them make shirts, teach them the nuts and bolts of stand up.
[00:08:29] Speaker B: Second City does it. But I'm guessing that's just horsing around, doing improv, trying to stop the kids crying.
[00:08:37] Speaker A: Yeah, I think it's mostly improv, but we don't mess around with that here. We just straight up stand up. Yeah, mind the depths of your sadness for a fucking tight five.
[00:08:48] Speaker B: Come on, kids, feel the pain.
[00:08:52] Speaker A: That job at Second City I actually applied for when they first started it, when they were first starting programming for kids.
[00:08:57] Speaker B: I thought I was fucking destroy it from the inside.
[00:09:00] Speaker A: Well, no, I know. I thought I was shooing for the job. Right.
I had experience. I was the only guy in the city that had experience, I think, teaching kids comedy at this point.
I went in for the interview, maybe a little too cocksure and you know, went home and, you know, sat by the phone immediately expecting the call and never got it.
[00:09:21] Speaker B: I know the lad who got it.
[00:09:23] Speaker A: You do?
[00:09:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:24] Speaker A: How do you know it was at the same time? This is 100 years ago.
[00:09:27] Speaker B: Well, he's. Ladies, always at it.
[00:09:29] Speaker C: Who?
[00:09:29] Speaker B: I'm not saying. Am I just saying if he has
[00:09:32] Speaker A: it, I can look it up. Just say it.
No, I'm not gonna slag the guy off.
[00:09:39] Speaker B: No, I'm not saying it, but I know him.
[00:09:41] Speaker A: Oh, I could. I don't really care. But then I realized that the, the reason why I may not have gotten the job, maybe this guy was more qualified. I don't know.
That I had worked at Second City upon my arrival in Chicago in 1999 of January is my first job with the likes of Brady Novak.
We worked as ushers.
[00:10:04] Speaker B: Really?
[00:10:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:05] Speaker B: That's surprising.
[00:10:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
And I worked there for a short time. I think it paid five dollars an hour or something like that, six bucks an hour, whatever minimum wage was then.
And I hated it. I hated the job.
It sucked.
And so I, you know, wanted to get out of it. And I Went into the, the manager's office. I can't remember who it was at the time.
Real nice lady. But I made up a lie. I said, I can no longer work here. Unfortunately, I'm gonna give him my notice because this is all I could think of.
I don't know why I could have thought of anything, but what I thought of was my parents are getting divorced.
It's a bad time right now, my parents getting divorced. Why would you have to quit a job because your parents are getting it.
[00:10:56] Speaker B: So now I can no longer see chairs
[00:11:00] Speaker C: be here.
[00:11:01] Speaker A: My parents are getting divorced.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: It's amazing the excuses people give you for stuff.
You know, the, the worst ones I've ever seen is where. And I've brought this up before, I'm sure when people get married, they ride that excuse for a year.
[00:11:20] Speaker A: But how they can't do stuff because they're married.
[00:11:21] Speaker B: Yeah. No, no. Getting my. I can't. My weddings in six months.
[00:11:26] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:11:26] Speaker B: So I can't do this. My weddings in three. I can't do this. I can't.
[00:11:30] Speaker A: I got the wedding coming.
[00:11:31] Speaker B: What is it, like 24 hours a day, seven days a week? Your bullshit wedding is choosing your font for the invites or something and enable some of the shite that people come out with for, like, why they can't do something.
[00:11:47] Speaker A: Shouldn't be for a bloke. You know, it's usually, that's usually handled by the bridezilla.
[00:11:52] Speaker B: No, the blokes lean, lean heaviest into it maybe nowadays.
[00:11:55] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, well then baby, if you have a baby after that.
[00:12:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:04] Speaker A: So it's the wedding leading up and then the baby after and never see him again. No, it won't. It won't.
Well, listen, I want to thank you both for accommodating today's schedule change and starting this an hour earlier.
And we got to keep it not brief, but I, I need to hot foot out of here.
[00:12:27] Speaker C: What's going on?
[00:12:28] Speaker A: Well, I don't know if I mentioned if I guess I didn't for the, for the past three days. This will be the fourth day I've been immersed in a Twin Peaks marathon at the Music Box. Yes, it's called moving through time.
[00:12:46] Speaker C: You did mention this.
[00:12:47] Speaker A: And it started Friday at 1 o', clock. Went for 13 hours.
[00:12:52] Speaker C: Wow.
[00:12:52] Speaker A: Then started again on Saturday morning at 11, went for another 1213 hours Sunday, same time. So I'm 36 hours or so into this.
[00:13:02] Speaker B: How many are in there with you?
[00:13:05] Speaker A: A smattering. I, I, when the tickets came out, I, I jumped online Thinking it would be sold out. Like many things in the music box and.
No, there were.
[00:13:14] Speaker B: There's about many drop.
[00:13:15] Speaker A: 12 people.
[00:13:16] Speaker B: Many dropouts.
[00:13:17] Speaker C: Like, the numbers dwindle.
[00:13:20] Speaker A: That. No, I would say that the people that are there are there from start to finish and they're. They're cosplay, you know, they're wearing like.
[00:13:28] Speaker C: Yeah. Do they dress up?
[00:13:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:30] Speaker C: Do you dress up?
[00:13:30] Speaker A: No, no, no.
[00:13:31] Speaker C: Why not?
[00:13:33] Speaker A: It's not my thing.
[00:13:33] Speaker C: Give it a shot.
[00:13:36] Speaker B: You should turn up.
Is that the one where Dennis Hopper has. No, that's Blue Velvet.
[00:13:41] Speaker A: That's David Lynch. Yeah.
[00:13:43] Speaker B: What weird thing could you do? Like, turn up with your ear missing or something?
[00:13:47] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, there's the Twin Peaks has so many crazy storylines. You could. You could do all kinds of weird stuff, but.
Yeah, so I'm exhausted. I've been sitting.
I've taken like 12 steps over three days. I've been sitting in a back of a theaterman.
[00:14:03] Speaker B: How did you clear this with your management?
[00:14:06] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. Well, this is a birthday gift for me.
[00:14:08] Speaker C: Did you say that your parents are getting divorced?
[00:14:10] Speaker A: Yeah, my bad. You know, I told my wife my parents are getting divorced, so she thinks I'm handling that. Even though they're long dead.
Yeah, no, she. My wife's been super cool about this. And I even said to her this morning, I was like, you've been so cool about. I've been gone for three full days, right.
Like a few blocks away.
And she's been so cool, surprisingly cool. And I don't say that in a, you know, backhanded way, but, like, you know, if I ever go and do something, like, she'll blow me and I'll blow her about it. But like, when I talk to her, she's like, how's it going? Are you having fun? She knows I need this.
Ah, it's a spiritual thing. It's a.
It's like a vision quest to sit through all this.
[00:14:50] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:14:51] Speaker B: I think women really do know when you, like, blokes are generally oblivious, but women know, like, I've gotta let him have this.
[00:14:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Somehow she knows. Yeah, yeah.
That I need it and I'll come back. I'll be as bad as ever.
We've done nothing probably, but.
[00:15:11] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:15:11] Speaker A: Yeah, it's really cool. So the guy. The guy who does. His name is Daniel Knox. He's fascinating. And what he does is. It's all the episodes, but in between the episodes, he takes whatever was on. You would love this. And I talked to him about you yesterday. He's like, who's this guy? I go, yeah, he owns the Lincoln Lodge.
[00:15:27] Speaker C: Like, oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: He.
[00:15:30] Speaker A: He's. He somehow mined the depths of all the commercials and talk shows from the time from 1991 or 1990 to 1991. And in between, every episode is just, you know, junkets, newscasts, commercials, anything to do with Twin Peaks or any of the actors that are in Twin Peaks. So, like clips from the. The other movies they're in and it just. So it's like, you know, you're back in that time period when this show was on, which I didn't watch at the time.
[00:16:01] Speaker C: But when, when was that?
[00:16:06] Speaker A: 1991 or 1990.
[00:16:09] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:16:10] Speaker A: 1990. 91. 90. April 1990.
So it's just. It's super cool that way. Yeah.
Yeah. You ever do anything like this? You ever.
[00:16:20] Speaker C: No, I was just thinking some kind. No.
[00:16:22] Speaker B: 3. Three Star wars in a run.
[00:16:24] Speaker A: That's as far as it went. Yeah. Your ass is probably red by the end of that.
[00:16:31] Speaker B: I was a young man at the time. It felt fun. Felt. Felt like rock and roll.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: Yeah. That's what it kind of feels like. Right? Like you're going, you know, beyond. How about you? You ever do it?
[00:16:41] Speaker C: No, I think the longest I've ever sat in a movie theater was for 2001 Space Odyssey. I think Music Box played that one.
[00:16:48] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a three hour.
[00:16:49] Speaker C: That's. Yeah, it's three hours.
[00:16:50] Speaker B: Did American movie, did American cinemas. Used to do double features. I know this. I've seen it at the drive ins.
[00:16:56] Speaker A: The drive in.
[00:16:57] Speaker C: Yeah. Right.
[00:16:57] Speaker B: But our hometown was always doing double feature stuff, so like.
[00:17:03] Speaker C: I don't think so. Not really. I like more of a driving thing.
[00:17:06] Speaker B: Saw Police Academy with, I want to say, Lampoon's Vacation or something.
[00:17:14] Speaker A: That's awesome.
[00:17:15] Speaker B: Yeah. They were just always like it. Let's just.
[00:17:18] Speaker A: It's a great idea. I don't know why, like, you. Same price.
[00:17:21] Speaker B: Yeah. You just bought one.
[00:17:22] Speaker A: Probably a little bit more expensive. But you get to see two movies.
[00:17:25] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. You know, why wouldn't a theater do that?
[00:17:29] Speaker C: Keep people around buying more popcorn.
[00:17:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:17:32] Speaker C: Etc.
Yeah.
[00:17:34] Speaker A: I don't know. Music Box does stuff like that.
[00:17:36] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:17:37] Speaker A: But.
So when you saw Star wars, did you see the. The three. Did you see the original three? Or did you see the original.
[00:17:46] Speaker B: Okay, this was, I think it was when Revenge of the Jedi came out. So the cinema.
[00:17:57] Speaker A: Oh, when the new ones were coming out. It was prepping for that.
[00:17:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:00] Speaker A: When the Revenge of the Jedi movie.
[00:18:02] Speaker B: What do you mean Revenge of the Jedi came out?
Whatever. Return of the Jedi came out. So our local cinema said effort. We'll do all three in a row if who. Whoever wants to see them.
[00:18:16] Speaker A: That's cool.
You've heard how they do for Avengers, right? When a new Avenger movie. They'll show all the Avenger movies in like a non stop marathon.
Like say it's a weekend. It will be people sleeping in the theater.
Yeah, I mean never stops. That's cool.
Yeah, I mean you go overnight.
[00:18:36] Speaker B: That's got a built in audience for it though. Yeah, you see do one but with like chick flicks or something.
Steel Magnolias followed by Beaches followed by.
[00:18:49] Speaker A: Could you do that kind of thing here? I know you show the movie. You have the movie thing. Show.
[00:18:53] Speaker B: Right.
[00:18:54] Speaker A: Where bad brews and bad movies or something.
[00:18:56] Speaker B: Yeah, I've asked him about that because I got concerned about copyright nonsense. You know, I don't think you can just slap a movie on when you feel like it. You know, someone somewhere wants.
[00:19:08] Speaker C: Yeah, they need to get paid.
[00:19:09] Speaker B: Wants to get paid.
See, that's the point because you know Ronan's real, which is like a former lodge guy who passed away. His family have a, you know a fundraising thing called. And it's called Ronan's Reels. And they'll rent the Music box. So they showed Jaws, they showed stripes, they've shown like a few. And I'm not, I've never asked. How did you get the.
[00:19:37] Speaker A: Well, the rights.
[00:19:38] Speaker B: Yeah, the rights to show it without them just creaming all the goddamn money off.
[00:19:43] Speaker A: Well, my wife's rented out the music box for me before and shown a film there. I think if it's a private viewing then. Then you don't have to. But like at the college where I work, if they want to show any movie out in the student union or whatever. Oh, they have to have a. Yeah. Some kind of permission or license to do.
[00:20:03] Speaker B: So the thing I was going to do, which I've never got to, is to. I had this big plan when this place opened up that it on Saturdays when it's the Speedway Grand Prix in Europe, I always watch it. Anyway, I was going to show it here and I was going to go all up Milwaukee Avenue, all the Polish bars, the diners.
[00:20:27] Speaker A: This is race cars.
[00:20:28] Speaker B: You're talking about motorcycle racing.
I was gonna put posters in all. Every Polsky joint that I could find because to them down to the lodge, it's their national sport.
Yeah, yeah. So like I was gonna do that and I just never got to it. I spoke to a few Polskis about it and they were kind of cagey about it.
[00:20:48] Speaker A: Why?
[00:20:48] Speaker C: Well, yeah. Why is that?
[00:20:49] Speaker B: I don't know. Like in. In the olden times where I couldn't figure out streaming and stuff, I would bike along Belmont a couple of miles till I hit a Polsky bar and see, you know, are they streaming it? Everyone was just cagey about it, but, you know, there's nothing stopping me printing up a poster and going, every. You know, every other Saturday at the Lincoln Lodge will be showing this on a big screen. I think what deterred me was just the proliferation of streaming. Now it's like it's not.
It used to be you were relying on some youth somewhere with a computer to. All right, Dark arts. If you can't find the game you want to see and stream it now, you. You're obviously a digital dinosaur. I mean, I had to put the bleeding packers game on for my old lady yesterday because it clashed with the Bears.
[00:21:46] Speaker A: It wasn't on tv.
[00:21:47] Speaker B: Yes. It weren't on telly. So I had to go on a European streaming site and then get it for free and then get it onto the telly.
[00:21:55] Speaker A: But you didn't have to pay.
[00:21:57] Speaker B: No, I mean, it's either that or she goes to Wills. Wills. Yeah.
[00:22:03] Speaker C: That place is great.
[00:22:04] Speaker B: Go in there.
[00:22:04] Speaker A: Wells Northwest.
[00:22:06] Speaker B: I used to live opposite. Literally. Other side of the street to two houses up from Wills.
[00:22:11] Speaker C: My cousin lived right there in that corner, too. It's a cool bar. Yeah, I've had some good times there.
Who. Who won the packers game?
[00:22:20] Speaker B: They did, in overtime.
[00:22:22] Speaker A: Thank God. Right for you.
[00:22:24] Speaker B: You didn't get behind.
[00:22:26] Speaker A: She spared you another beating.
[00:22:28] Speaker B: Well, she was foul mood all the way through.
[00:22:31] Speaker A: Yeah, well.
[00:22:33] Speaker B: And even then, they labored to beat a crappy team, so.
[00:22:37] Speaker A: Well, sir, I'm glad you brought it up. I'm glad you asked him the question, because I've got the antidote. Antidote, antidote for all that ails you from now until eternity, when Heather gets in a state from the packers and
[00:22:55] Speaker B: she's
[00:22:58] Speaker A: taking it out on you from now on.
You just pulled us out.
[00:23:04] Speaker C: Ooh.
[00:23:05] Speaker A: Sports Illustrated's 1996 video yearbook. The Green Bay Packers.
[00:23:10] Speaker C: Wow.
[00:23:11] Speaker A: Resulting in the first division championship in a quarter century, Mike Holgram's packers dethroned the defending Super bowl champion 49ers, making it to the NFC championship game. I don't know if they won. I don't think they won.
[00:23:25] Speaker C: They probably write that down if they win.
[00:23:27] Speaker A: Yeah. I'm gonna put this on. Say, no, don't worry about that game. Remember in 1996. They made it to the NFC championship with Reggie White.
Now let's put this on and make love.
[00:23:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
Making love of Reggie White looming over me. The. You know what's funny with my missus is, though, as nightmarish as she is to be around the packers, right, three minutes after their season ends, where whatever game it is, just.
It's evaporated from a memory.
[00:24:01] Speaker A: As soon as it starts up again,
[00:24:02] Speaker B: it's like, well, she's got. She's got into Packer podcasts now. So she's listening to all that shite for, like, months before the season. I'm like, what are they even talking about?
[00:24:13] Speaker C: Right? In the off season, what are they even talking about?
[00:24:16] Speaker A: The players, the prospective player who's going
[00:24:18] Speaker C: to make the team trades, I guess, stuff like that.
[00:24:21] Speaker B: The schedule.
[00:24:23] Speaker C: There's. There's some Buffalo Sabres podcasts I listen to, and they just take the summer off. They say there's nothing happening. We'll see you in the fall.
[00:24:29] Speaker B: Yeah, you got to be a special kind of dollard to find something to talk about your sports team when they're not actively playing. Maybe a two, three week window before the season.
[00:24:43] Speaker C: Yeah, right.
[00:24:44] Speaker B: Shit's happening. But if you're talking about American football in July, you need to put a bullet right between your eyes.
[00:24:53] Speaker C: Also, you got to be able to enjoy July. Just not football time, you know, Let football time be football time.
It doesn't have to be all the
[00:25:00] Speaker B: time, but, yeah, my missus is good at that. Three minutes after that final whistle, it's gone. It's just gone.
[00:25:05] Speaker C: Kaiser.
[00:25:06] Speaker B: So don't need to talk about it anymore.
[00:25:08] Speaker A: That's great.
Even if it's a bad loss, she
[00:25:13] Speaker B: will rant about it for about the rest of the day.
I can't believe they blew a 37 and three or whatever.
[00:25:21] Speaker A: And then she wakes up with amnesia the next day like it never happened.
[00:25:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: That's nice.
All right. Speaking of sports, Christian. What?
[00:25:32] Speaker B: I. I'll ask her what players she remembers from this show, and she'll go, I don't remember any of them.
[00:25:38] Speaker A: Just wipes.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: She might just go, brett. Was it Brett or was it Brett? Far was it Brett or Aaron? Then I can't remember exactly. It's got to be Brett and as well. Oh, boy, does she get testy when you.
If I ask her anything about, like, well, what, you know, what happened in 97? Or I don't know that.
Like, and then she just glares at me like, shut up.
[00:26:04] Speaker A: Like, don't challenge her. Don't. Don't test her knowledge of the Green Bay.
[00:26:08] Speaker B: Like, I'm actually downplaying her commitment to the Green Bay. I once asked her, well, how many players are on the field at one time in an American football match?
[00:26:18] Speaker A: Because you really wanted to know.
[00:26:19] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:26:20] Speaker B: Because, you know, there's just so many of them coming and going. How many fuckers are out there?
[00:26:24] Speaker A: She snapped.
[00:26:25] Speaker B: She didn't know and was just like, I don't know that. How. How do I know that?
[00:26:32] Speaker A: Well, I mean, that's fair game.
[00:26:34] Speaker B: I mean, but holy shit, about ripped my bollocks off and put them on for earrings. Just literally for asking that.
No brainer.
[00:26:42] Speaker A: Fly in the wall during these games. You know, you tiptoe around, you bring her a drink, and you sit there all like.
[00:26:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:26:48] Speaker A: You know, trembling, hoping, you know, that
[00:26:50] Speaker B: I literally saying not a goddamn word.
[00:26:53] Speaker A: Well, thankfully they pulled that one out, right? They almost lost that game.
Have you looked at the Blackhawks? Did you look at the pack?
[00:27:00] Speaker C: No, I have not.
[00:27:01] Speaker A: Okay. We gotta get on that, though.
[00:27:02] Speaker C: I started wondering if it would end up being cheaper buying tickets on game time.
[00:27:07] Speaker A: Probably it will, right? Yeah.
[00:27:09] Speaker B: I mean, how long is it going to be?
[00:27:11] Speaker A: You won't do it.
[00:27:12] Speaker C: I do want to do it still,
[00:27:13] Speaker A: but if you don't have the tickets in hand pre season, you. You may go to a game or two, but you will not do it.
[00:27:19] Speaker B: Fact. Yeah, I. I used to do it all the time.
[00:27:23] Speaker A: What, you'd. You'd buy the ticks of the game?
[00:27:25] Speaker B: Like I told you. I lived on Ashland and Diversey.
[00:27:29] Speaker A: Yeah. By the players club.
[00:27:30] Speaker B: I'm at. I'm at the stadium. Ten minutes, right. I would sit at thing, think, oh, the Blackhawks playing tonight in the car. Boom. Bish bosh bash. I'm in the stadium.
[00:27:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:42] Speaker B: You get doable.
[00:27:42] Speaker A: No, it's doable, but you don't make the effort to buy the ticket.
[00:27:45] Speaker C: Yeah, I know, right? Yeah. That's the thing. If you have the tickets, it kind
[00:27:49] Speaker B: of forces how many weeks before their season will be in the shitter.
[00:27:53] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
[00:27:55] Speaker B: Six or seven weeks, right?
[00:27:56] Speaker C: It's not gonna be great.
[00:27:57] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:58] Speaker B: Six or seven weeks, you just walk in, you're buying.
[00:28:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:01] Speaker B: You're buying. You. You arrive five minutes after the match starts and you buy them. You get under face. Under face.
[00:28:08] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:28:09] Speaker C: Because I'm looking at it. If you divide it up, it's $67 per game.
[00:28:14] Speaker A: Yes. And the thing I don't like is. And I call me whatever, because the ticket price comes to $666. I don't want to buy it.
It's a bad omen. Yeah, right. Like, I avoid that.
[00:28:26] Speaker C: I know if I go to a
[00:28:28] Speaker A: bakery and I get a croissant and it comes to 666, I can't eat that.
[00:28:33] Speaker C: I have to leave.
[00:28:34] Speaker A: I can't buy it.
[00:28:35] Speaker C: Good luck with your Satan croissant.
[00:28:38] Speaker A: Does that make me crazy?
[00:28:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:39] Speaker C: No, it does.
[00:28:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:41] Speaker A: Speaking of croissants and because of the Twin Peaks fest, I brought us all cherry pie.
[00:28:47] Speaker C: Oh.
[00:28:48] Speaker A: Because the Special Agent Dale Cooper on the show loves cherry pie. Right, so he likes coffee and cherry pie, does he? Yeah. Yeah. So have a cherry pie. How's the diet going?
[00:29:00] Speaker B: I'm at £25. Wow, you're back up, walled again.
[00:29:03] Speaker A: Almost a stone.
[00:29:05] Speaker B: What?
[00:29:06] Speaker A: You're almost one stone. That's £40, right?
[00:29:09] Speaker C: Yeah. How much is the stone?
[00:29:11] Speaker A: You're almost two stone.
[00:29:12] Speaker C: Almost two stone.
Thanks, though.
[00:29:17] Speaker A: Okay, so you're doing well. You're stable.
You're not dipping back down.
[00:29:20] Speaker B: I'm worried that the. It's watermelon season is now finished. What am I gonna. How much? What am I gonna sublimate? What am I gonna sublimate?
[00:29:29] Speaker A: How are you gonna sublimate this earth?
[00:29:30] Speaker B: Watermelons.
[00:29:31] Speaker C: They don't sell watermelon in the winter. I feel like there's just no season anymore.
[00:29:35] Speaker A: No, they sell.
[00:29:36] Speaker C: They just make stuff in a lab and it's just always there.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: You won't get a big watermelon for 3.99.
[00:29:40] Speaker C: It's gonna be a good one.
[00:29:41] Speaker A: Be able to get water.
[00:29:42] Speaker C: Be a little dry.
[00:29:44] Speaker A: Yeah, Nothing worse than a watermelon. That's bad.
[00:29:46] Speaker C: You know, it's kind of white.
[00:29:49] Speaker B: I had a shitload of watermelon the other day, and I said to my Mrs. I think this might be off. And she tasted it. She's like, oh, Jesus Christ. So, been eating, munching it.
[00:29:59] Speaker A: Well, you take that and then you. You freeze it and then blend it up, take it right down.
[00:30:04] Speaker C: One time when I was in high school, I got home and there was a bowl of cantaloupe in the refrigerator. And I was about to go to my job, an Italian restaurant, so I ate the cantaloupe for dinner. You know, when you're a teenager, you do weird stuff like that. And I was eating it. Like, it kind of tastes off and, like, something's weird about this. Good thing I'm eating this now before it actually turns.
[00:30:24] Speaker A: Before it turns.
[00:30:25] Speaker C: So I ate the whole bowl of cantaloupe and then I went to work and I'M standing there making some meatballs or whatever, and my phone rings and it's my sister, and I pick up. Hey. She's like, hey. She's like, you ate that whole bowl of cantaloupe, right? I said, yeah. She said, how do you feel? I said, a little funny, actually.
[00:30:39] Speaker A: Soaked in vodka?
[00:30:40] Speaker C: Yeah. She said, yeah. Mom and Mrs. Pavlovich soaked all the cantaloupe in vodka.
[00:30:43] Speaker A: Really?
[00:30:43] Speaker C: It was soaking in vodka in that bowl. That's why I tasted off.
[00:30:46] Speaker A: You must have been hammered.
[00:30:47] Speaker C: Yeah. All of a sudden, I realized I was drunk.
[00:30:50] Speaker A: You never heard of that Where Americans will take a fruit like a watermelon and they'll put a hole in it, and then they'll dump the bottle of vodka in the hole, and then it will saturate the whole watermelon and they'll cut it up and eat it either in slices or they'll make a bowl. Like they'll make a bowl out of the big watermelon with a handle.
[00:31:09] Speaker C: It's too long of a way just to drink some vodka.
[00:31:11] Speaker B: Yeah. I was gonna say just drink the vodka.
[00:31:12] Speaker C: Yeah. I never understood it.
[00:31:16] Speaker A: All right, and then, Christian, my gift for you.
[00:31:18] Speaker B: Don't. American kids. So tampons in vodka and shove it up their ass.
[00:31:23] Speaker A: Yes. And meth and all. They soak all kinds of things in tampons. Shove it up their buttock or their vagina hole.
[00:31:30] Speaker C: Yeah. Germans do it a lot too. I think.
[00:31:32] Speaker A: They do.
[00:31:33] Speaker C: Yeah. That's where I first. That's the first people I've heard of
[00:31:36] Speaker A: doing really hardcore alkis will do it because they can't drink. So they just shove that up their asshole and then they're getting drunk from their.
[00:31:44] Speaker B: Huh.
Well, sort of segways us into today's podcast, but we're still doing prezzies.
[00:31:51] Speaker A: Yeah, we're still doing prezzy.
[00:31:53] Speaker C: All right.
[00:31:53] Speaker A: And then, Christian, because I know you were learning French not that long ago, really working on your French, I got you Jacques Pre.
[00:32:03] Speaker C: Oh.
[00:32:04] Speaker A: It's a book of French poetry.
[00:32:06] Speaker C: Oh, really?
[00:32:07] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:32:07] Speaker B: And what does that mean?
[00:32:09] Speaker A: Oh, he'll tell us.
[00:32:10] Speaker C: Yeah, I'll tell you next week.
[00:32:11] Speaker A: Jacques Prevail.
[00:32:12] Speaker B: It's something. And the good times.
[00:32:15] Speaker A: You know French? You should.
[00:32:17] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm pretty good at it.
[00:32:18] Speaker A: You're right over there.
[00:32:19] Speaker C: Well, thanks, Bill.
[00:32:20] Speaker A: Yeah. Enjoy. Jacques Prevail.
[00:32:22] Speaker C: I like the artwork already.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: All right, what else?
I feel awful because of this. I've been eating so badly.
[00:32:31] Speaker C: Really?
[00:32:31] Speaker A: I've eaten so much candy and shit over the past three days.
[00:32:34] Speaker B: I've then the missus send you out with a packed lunch? Like a little worker. Like a little worker.
[00:32:40] Speaker A: She sent me with a bunch of candy. Have you.
[00:32:43] Speaker C: Have you been continuing to drink wine all week?
[00:32:46] Speaker A: No.
[00:32:46] Speaker C: Since last week?
[00:32:47] Speaker A: Not had it. That made me so tired.
[00:32:48] Speaker C: Did it?
[00:32:49] Speaker A: Yeah, I almost swerved off the road.
[00:32:51] Speaker B: How depressed were you the next day?
[00:32:53] Speaker A: Rather depressed.
[00:32:54] Speaker B: Very.
[00:32:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Rather depressed, now that you mention it. What you looking for? The wine. You keep some up there?
[00:32:59] Speaker C: No.
[00:33:01] Speaker A: Oh, the glass.
Oh, for our wine.
[00:33:05] Speaker C: For your wine drinking endeavors.
[00:33:06] Speaker A: Oh, when we have wine.
[00:33:08] Speaker C: Yeah, for. Because I know you're a huge wine fan. Now this is a glass to represent how you feel.
[00:33:14] Speaker A: Did he say, give me more wine or leave me alone?
I like that.
Either give me more wine or leave me alone. What does yours say?
[00:33:26] Speaker C: Sassy. Yeah, speaking of sass, this is a. I found a glass that was made
[00:33:32] Speaker B: with puffy pint represents.
[00:33:33] Speaker A: Yeah, you're going to have some wine too. Where's your wine glass you're going to have?
[00:33:38] Speaker C: It's a goblet for his. No, these are gifts for you guys.
[00:33:41] Speaker A: Look at that. This is a thoughtful gift.
[00:33:43] Speaker C: Very selfless guy.
[00:33:44] Speaker B: Spectacular.
[00:33:45] Speaker A: Snazzy. Yeah, snazzy.
[00:33:47] Speaker B: Super sensational.
Sweet.
[00:33:50] Speaker A: Sexy.
[00:33:51] Speaker C: That's for you to keep around here so that when you say, give me some of that limey water, they. You got to make people use that goblet.
[00:33:57] Speaker A: You know where that's from?
The 99 Cent Store. Yeah. Right next door.
[00:34:02] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:34:03] Speaker B: I went to. I did go to a thrift store on the way down here. I know how bummed you were not to get that crappy bobblehead last week. And the thrift store near me always has a bizarre selection of bobbles bubbles.
[00:34:18] Speaker A: Which one I was.
[00:34:19] Speaker B: It's the unique.
[00:34:21] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, that one's shit, isn't it? I went there one time a long time ago.
[00:34:24] Speaker B: Used to be the Dog's Knob. But yeah, it's tailed off.
[00:34:26] Speaker A: Dog's knob's bad, right?
[00:34:27] Speaker B: Yeah. No good.
They always have at least two or three. Like, where did this bobblehead come from? And I was. I had my fingers crossed they were going to have the.
Who's the carpet guy?
Not mine.
[00:34:46] Speaker C: Carpet.
[00:34:47] Speaker A: Empire carpet.
[00:34:47] Speaker B: Empire carpets.
But I struck out. No bobbleheads. Well, I forgot it's half price Monday. So the great unwashed were in there just. Oh yeah, it's just like Russia.
[00:35:02] Speaker A: Everything half priced in there. Yeah, the thrift doesn't. My thrift or the village doesn't do that anymore. They don't do the half price.
[00:35:08] Speaker B: They used to do the tags, didn't they?
[00:35:11] Speaker A: Certain things are half price. But it used to be everything half price. I used to love that here.
[00:35:16] Speaker B: Yeah, it looked like a Russian supermarket in there today.
[00:35:20] Speaker A: Speaking of thrift, did you go to the Flea this week?
[00:35:22] Speaker B: It's closed. I told you, three weeks in a row it's closed.
[00:35:25] Speaker A: But it's coming back, you said?
[00:35:26] Speaker B: Yeah, in October. Last two or three weeks of October.
[00:35:30] Speaker A: All right, I'm in.
[00:35:33] Speaker C: They ever do it inside?
[00:35:35] Speaker B: Not there, no. There is an inside one down in Allp. And people wank on about it, but I've never been to it yet or. I think I went there years and years ago and it was just new stuff.
[00:35:49] Speaker C: And that's not good.
[00:35:50] Speaker B: No.
[00:35:51] Speaker C: You want old stuff?
[00:35:52] Speaker B: I don't need no truck with that.
Unfortunately. Maxwell Street. Long dead.
[00:35:58] Speaker A: Yeah. That was the OG Flea, right?
[00:36:01] Speaker B: God, that used to be so good. That street was.
Look down it and think, my God, there is a mountain of shite to dig through here.
[00:36:10] Speaker A: But what do you do with all this shite? Right?
[00:36:12] Speaker B: Like give it to you.
[00:36:13] Speaker A: I get. I. And I appreciate that.
But do you have a storage for all this shite or you store it here?
[00:36:21] Speaker B: Well, a lot of the shite is for here.
[00:36:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:36:24] Speaker B: So, like this summer, I've been getting softball gear, right?
[00:36:29] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:36:29] Speaker B: That goes to the team.
[00:36:31] Speaker A: How's the team doing?
[00:36:32] Speaker C: We won our playoff game.
[00:36:33] Speaker A: No way.
[00:36:34] Speaker C: Yeah. And then it was a double header. If we won the first game, the that means we played the second one and we got walloped in the second one.
[00:36:40] Speaker A: The Lemonheads. You played the Lemonheads?
[00:36:41] Speaker C: No, I don't remember their name. But we played them earlier in the season and they're all just like professional baseball players.
[00:36:46] Speaker A: The Lemon Heads.
[00:36:47] Speaker C: I think they shouldn't even be in this tier. They should be in the tier above. Like, they don't play.
[00:36:51] Speaker A: They played the Lemonheads.
[00:36:52] Speaker C: Yeah. I don't know what their name is. Who's the Lemon Heads?
[00:36:54] Speaker B: Do they do promotion, relegation? Then in this league, is it 16 or 12?
[00:37:00] Speaker C: 12.
[00:37:00] Speaker A: Oh, then not. The Lemonheads. Remember the Lemonheads? They were so good. That team that would just destroy us.
[00:37:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:37:07] Speaker B: What do you mean? Every team?
[00:37:08] Speaker A: I know, but this team was like.
[00:37:11] Speaker C: It was, but we did. We won our first game of the season.
[00:37:15] Speaker B: The one I remember from our league is Stone Cutters. Do you remember the Stone Cutters?
[00:37:19] Speaker A: They were good too. These were all big burly guys.
[00:37:23] Speaker B: Do you remember that team of scrappy. Puerto Rican, mainly.
And all of their misses were lined up behind the fence thing. And Cole, Jiren, and just a bit. Cole's like shaking his ass like. And they're like, oh, yeah, baby. And he's like, yeah, you want this?
[00:37:43] Speaker A: Tai jeans Classic.
[00:37:44] Speaker B: Classic cutoffs. Oh, my God. I left.
[00:37:48] Speaker A: Those are the days.
Have you gotten him to play on the team?
[00:37:52] Speaker C: No. Came to a game.
[00:37:54] Speaker B: My knees not bankable.
[00:37:56] Speaker A: No, you could catch like you did back in sports.
[00:38:00] Speaker B: Yeah, which is what?
Drop most of it.
[00:38:02] Speaker A: There's not much you can do.
[00:38:03] Speaker B: I'm basically just going to stand there like a post and let the ball bounce off me.
[00:38:08] Speaker A: Well, when you need that, you know.
[00:38:10] Speaker C: Right.
[00:38:11] Speaker B: I'd make a good third base.
[00:38:15] Speaker A: Oh, the actual third basement.
Yeah.
All right, so you're out. Then the season's over.
[00:38:23] Speaker C: Season's over. However, there's discussion on to continue playing amongst each other. You know, it's like. Because we have like 20 people. We could do it.
[00:38:32] Speaker A: I'll see coming home sometimes at night. I'll see at Hamlin Park. They're playing softball out there till December almost.
[00:38:39] Speaker C: Yeah. You know, yeah, there's another fall league, but we're just not in it.
[00:38:43] Speaker B: He need to bounce this off Kelsey.
Chicago comedy all star softball game.
[00:38:50] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:38:52] Speaker B: You just put the two teams together.
I'll bring.
[00:38:56] Speaker A: That's a great idea.
[00:38:57] Speaker B: Bring me and Lawler out of retirement as the behind the plate collar guys.
[00:39:01] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:39:02] Speaker B: With a full.
Full sound system, walk up music.
I mean, oh boy. Me commenting on every comedian coming up to bat.
That's worth the price of admission alone.
[00:39:16] Speaker A: That could be good.
[00:39:18] Speaker B: How did I just think it is?
[00:39:20] Speaker A: See, that's what this is about.
[00:39:21] Speaker C: This is a round table of ideas
[00:39:23] Speaker A: think tank in here.
[00:39:24] Speaker B: This is like. This is like a green light for me to destroy every comedian in the scene.
[00:39:33] Speaker A: Yeah, you got a carte blanche.
[00:39:34] Speaker C: You go ahead and let it rip. Just start roasting.
[00:39:38] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[00:39:39] Speaker A: I thought of another good idea today when I was coming in. Since we're on to good ideas. You're always bemoaning the fact that you can never get the big comedian. Like I sent you that Maria Bamford, Right. She won't play here because it's too, too small.
Well, why don't you. We're keeping you up over there.
Not enough. The controls.
[00:39:58] Speaker B: He's been watching Twin Peaks.
[00:40:00] Speaker A: Yeah, Yawning over there.
You. You get in partnership with the Concord Music Hall. I don't know what it's like in there, but when you get the big name, you. You go right there, right across the
[00:40:14] Speaker B: street and you walk right into my trap.
[00:40:17] Speaker C: What?
[00:40:18] Speaker B: This weekend I went to The Studebaker historic DePaul Theater on Michigan Avenue.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: It's DePaul.
[00:40:27] Speaker B: DePaul owns it. Yeah.
Now, this doesn't sound promising when you say the two things out loud.
Australians sketch comedy sounds like the worst night out of your life.
But we saw the. These. This act called the Umbilical Brothers, where they had a green screen on either side of the stage and a tech guy in the middle working the ones and twos. And they would sort of mash what was what they were green screening into one thing that was projected above this guy. And it was.
Yeah, I'm gonna say. I'm not saying it was hilarious. They were Australian. But the funny. The tech of it was really. They were doing things like they would put the camera on someone in the audience.
[00:41:15] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:41:16] Speaker B: And then do that mouth superimposed.
[00:41:19] Speaker C: The Conan thing.
[00:41:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
And like, obviously, you know, riff on what this person was and blah, blah, blah, blah. So it went really well. But coming out of it, I was reading the history of the theater and I thought, this. There's barely in use. Surely we could rent it and do.
[00:41:38] Speaker A: Do a big show.
[00:41:39] Speaker B: Do a big show.
But then I was like, God damn. Like, it's just such a ball ache doing it. But that's a proper theater. It's a nice size, you know, not too enormous.
It's a lovely old building. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And, you know, I don't know what the rent would be on it, though.
Mostly the rent kills you. I mean, by the time you've done the rent and then you've produce the
[00:42:05] Speaker A: whole thing and it'd just be at a different venue. Yeah, but what is it like across the street at the Concord? Have you been in there?
[00:42:11] Speaker B: It's just a music venue. It's not really a theater. No, I mean, there's no seating.
[00:42:15] Speaker A: Oh, there's no seating.
[00:42:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:42:18] Speaker A: Well, some people. Do they ever stay? Yeah. Stand up for comedy.
[00:42:22] Speaker B: Huge as well. And it's like 500.
[00:42:24] Speaker C: Which one?
[00:42:25] Speaker B: Concord.
[00:42:26] Speaker C: Oh, I don't. I've never been inside there neither.
[00:42:29] Speaker A: But uncle dj, Uncle Acid is there this weekend. You see that?
You like acid?
[00:42:37] Speaker B: I prefer Auntie Alkali. I don't know them mellower beats.
[00:42:42] Speaker A: All right, well, I'm out of ideas. That was. That was my last good idea.
[00:42:46] Speaker B: No, it's. It's. Kelsey was batting it around as well as. If we could get a grant, we could do a special 25th anniversary big blowout.
[00:42:56] Speaker A: The theater.
[00:42:56] Speaker B: Yeah, but it's like by the time you've paid the rent and then you've paid the talent. All you're doing is creating a massive headache for yourself to maybe make three or four hundred bucks by the time.
[00:43:12] Speaker A: It's not for the money, right?
[00:43:14] Speaker B: No, I don't want the head out.
[00:43:15] Speaker A: None of this is for the money.
[00:43:17] Speaker B: I knew this guy from who ran the Houston Laugh Stop and he promoted Margaret Cho at the Vic.
And I said, what made you do
[00:43:28] Speaker A: that all the way up here to do show?
[00:43:31] Speaker B: And I, I said, what? That's a bit of a risk because I offered a 10 grand to do the Vic. This is back 20 odd years ago, mind you.
And he goes, by the time I paid rent and paid her off, I made 10 grand. And I go, yeah, but didn't you have to keep coming up to Chicago? Because. No, I knew she would sell. So I just.
Job done.
[00:43:53] Speaker A: See, you have these connections to get people right.
It shouldn't be that hard. You know how to produce the show.
[00:44:02] Speaker B: I offered Jerry Seinfeld a scooter to come respond. Wanker.
What's the deal with that?
[00:44:13] Speaker A: That's not bad.
[00:44:14] Speaker C: That's all right.
[00:44:14] Speaker A: You're, you're. You on a new medication.
[00:44:17] Speaker B: I wonder if Seinfeld has like knob heads like me come up to him all the time and doing it. Do Seinfeld to him.
[00:44:23] Speaker A: What's the deal,
[00:44:26] Speaker B: do you think?
[00:44:28] Speaker A: No, problem's not.
[00:44:30] Speaker B: He doesn't seem very warm to me as a human.
[00:44:32] Speaker A: No.
[00:44:33] Speaker B: He probably would just look at you
[00:44:34] Speaker A: like he doesn't want to be bothered.
[00:44:35] Speaker B: Get out of there.
[00:44:36] Speaker A: Who does want to be bothered?
[00:44:37] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[00:44:38] Speaker A: Like, even if somebody I know right knows me, I don't want to talk to them.
[00:44:43] Speaker C: You get a knock at the door,
[00:44:44] Speaker A: you're like, what's about? Yeah, you know.
Well, I don't think our comedian this week has that problem. Not in America.
Miss. Miss Fern Brady, unknown to all in America. Yeah.
[00:45:02] Speaker B: Well, she recorded she said twice in the thing. This is being recorded for America. I don't know if it'll work.
[00:45:10] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:45:11] Speaker B: Because it's on 800 pound gorilla.
[00:45:14] Speaker A: Yeah. I thought you said if this makes it to America, they won't know like some jokes or whatever.
[00:45:19] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:45:22] Speaker A: Fern Brady, Scottish what is the relationship between Scotland and England today? Contentious.
They hate one another. Give me some background on Scotland.
[00:45:34] Speaker B: It's kind of bollocks. It's like, tell your neighbors everyone knows Scottish people. I got Scottish ancestors, blah, blah, blah. I mean, they're gonna.
It's just that stupid. Like, oh, you're you. I mean, they hate the English more than the English dislike them. Most English people I know, if you said, what do you think of Scots? They'd be like, they're all right. I mean, you know, I think they're ginger psychopaths, but yeah, that's what I want to know. What is the I'll tell you this too smart stereotype. The two smartest people I ever worked with were Scottish.
[00:46:06] Speaker A: Martin Gallagher and who else?
[00:46:07] Speaker B: No, no, no, These are in my professional life.
[00:46:10] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:46:10] Speaker B: I worked with this young lass from Aberdeen called Anne Marie Wallace.
She was the smartest person you've ever met.
And we used to call her Razor because she was Scottish. She had like a hard edge to her, but she was funny and very smart.
[00:46:30] Speaker A: Is that a fair generalization about the Scots, that they are smart people?
[00:46:33] Speaker B: I think they have a high. Well, so there's two. There's two sorts of Scots in there. Two sorts of everyone. Right. There's the ginger psychopath, there's the Begb.
[00:46:42] Speaker A: A lot of Scots are red haired, right? Yeah, yeah. You got any Scott in you?
[00:46:46] Speaker C: I don't think so, no.
[00:46:48] Speaker A: Speaking of red hair, have you heard about Carrot Top?
[00:46:50] Speaker C: What happened to Carrot Top?
[00:46:51] Speaker A: He's right off himself.
[00:46:52] Speaker C: What? No.
[00:46:53] Speaker B: Oh, that's what it was.
[00:46:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
Yeah.
[00:46:56] Speaker B: Huh.
[00:46:57] Speaker C: When?
[00:46:57] Speaker A: Suicide attempt over the weekend.
[00:46:59] Speaker B: I know they were being cagey about it.
[00:47:02] Speaker A: Well, yeah, yeah. Sent me the story.
[00:47:04] Speaker B: Huh. Oh, yeah, because he's in Vegas. So he's right.
[00:47:07] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:47:07] Speaker B: He gets inside.
[00:47:08] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[00:47:09] Speaker A: It was in Vegas after a show.
[00:47:10] Speaker C: Oh, no.
[00:47:11] Speaker A: Try to do the Dutch.
[00:47:13] Speaker B: We better review one of his next.
[00:47:15] Speaker A: Oh, maybe he'll pick that today. It's Christian spec.
[00:47:17] Speaker B: Today's sake. Anyway, so Scott, Scottish people.
There's a very educated, very smart. They're very left wing. Very left wing.
Very.
And. But then there is the Begbie, you know, like lager swilling.
[00:47:36] Speaker A: What's Begbie mean?
[00:47:37] Speaker B: He's the absolute.
No, no Begbie out of train spotting. Oh, you remember the scene where.
[00:47:44] Speaker A: I've seen it, but I don't remember
[00:47:45] Speaker B: where he throws the glass over the balcony and you hear this woman scream. And then he goes downtown. He goes there and he goes, right. No, leaves here. Until we find out he glassed the lassie. And then he just causes this massive brawl.
There's a lot of them in Scotland.
[00:48:02] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:48:03] Speaker B: I'd never been to Scotland my entire life.
And then I went. When I was about, I want to say 23, my mate was racing professional motorcycles and he.
The team was riding against the Edinburgh team. So I'm like, wow, this is the first time I've Been north of the border.
So we drove through Edinburgh Friday night and one of the first things I saw was this absolutely beautiful Scottish lass just hurling chips into the gutter.
[00:48:35] Speaker A: She had too much drink and she's
[00:48:37] Speaker B: hurling and that was like.
[00:48:39] Speaker A: But she still maintained her beauty.
[00:48:41] Speaker B: Yeah. It's 7:00 clock at night anyway, so Scotland, it's a weird place.
[00:48:46] Speaker A: Yeah. You've been there?
[00:48:48] Speaker C: No, I haven't.
[00:48:48] Speaker A: You've been all over, though.
[00:48:49] Speaker C: Yeah. Been close.
[00:48:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:48:51] Speaker B: Heather. Heather is a huge scottophile or whatever you call people who are pro Scottish.
[00:48:57] Speaker A: Think she's Scottish this week.
[00:48:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, she's very into Scotland. Ireland.
[00:49:02] Speaker A: Oh, did we talk about this last week where she's planning a trip that's going to be the next stop?
[00:49:08] Speaker B: No, no, she took me. She took me to Scotland and we did Glasgow and Edinburgh and I'm thinking, oh, this is going to be a bit ropey. But it was really good.
[00:49:16] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:49:17] Speaker A: What's that mean, ropey?
[00:49:18] Speaker B: Just, you know, shitty. Yeah.
[00:49:21] Speaker A: Yeah. All I know about Scotland is from the film, so I married an axe murderer, you know, from Mike Myers.
[00:49:28] Speaker C: You can take a ferry to Scotland.
[00:49:29] Speaker B: So what about your. What. What about your obsession with Sheena Easton?
[00:49:33] Speaker A: She's Scottish. That's right. I'm not obsessed.
[00:49:36] Speaker B: Well, I just. Just for a bit of fun,
[00:49:40] Speaker A: I
[00:49:40] Speaker B: want to play the.
The McTinder game with Bill O'. Donnell.
[00:49:45] Speaker A: McTinder?
[00:49:46] Speaker B: McTinder, what's that mean? We're gonna play McTinder, lad.
You're gonna swipe right for a bonnie lassie.
[00:49:54] Speaker A: Why do you do this?
[00:49:55] Speaker B: Swipe left for a. For a Highland Q.
So.
[00:50:00] Speaker A: Okay, wait a minute now. Bonnie lass is a good one.
[00:50:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:04] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:50:05] Speaker B: Swipe right. Unmac. Tinder for a bonnie lass.
[00:50:08] Speaker A: I thought a bonnie lass meant a bigger gal.
[00:50:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it means that as well, but it doesn't mean. It doesn't mean that. Unprepossessing.
[00:50:19] Speaker A: Okay. Prepossessing. Oh, all right.
[00:50:22] Speaker B: So addiction. So, okay, so what's the other one? We'll do a warm up.
[00:50:27] Speaker A: These are all Scottish.
[00:50:29] Speaker B: Swipe left for a Highland key for a Highland cattle.
[00:50:33] Speaker A: Swipe left on all of them. I don't want to hear from my wife. So, Highland Q.
[00:50:37] Speaker B: We'll start with one that we know.
Start with one with the. No, Sheena Easton. Highland Q.
Swipe it left Kelly McDonald. Oh, she's a fair Lassie.
[00:50:48] Speaker A: Mean. Kelly LeBrock.
[00:50:50] Speaker B: Kelly McDonald.
[00:50:51] Speaker A: I don't know who that is.
I know Kevin McDonald.
[00:50:55] Speaker B: She's from no country for Old Men.
[00:50:59] Speaker A: Nah, I don't Know her? I saw the film, but I don't remember who she is. Swipe left Highland Q.
[00:51:06] Speaker B: You lying. Get.
[00:51:07] Speaker A: I don't even know who she is.
Keep it going.
[00:51:10] Speaker B: That is a bare faced lie.
Shirley Manson.
[00:51:16] Speaker A: Shirley Manson.
Who's that?
[00:51:19] Speaker B: She's free garbage.
[00:51:21] Speaker A: Is she with Marilyn Manson?
[00:51:24] Speaker B: 90s pop star. So she has Thailand Q.
[00:51:31] Speaker C: Did you just make this game up?
[00:51:32] Speaker A: I love it.
[00:51:33] Speaker B: Lulu.
[00:51:34] Speaker A: Lulu.
Who's that?
[00:51:37] Speaker B: You know, you make me want to shout.
[00:51:40] Speaker A: What? That's Little Richard, isn't it?
She shout Highland.
[00:51:46] Speaker B: Cue fight. Fun Final one.
[00:51:50] Speaker A: Olivia Newton John.
[00:51:51] Speaker B: Tilda Swinton.
[00:51:53] Speaker A: Highland Q. Not my.
[00:51:55] Speaker B: She's a handsome woman.
[00:51:57] Speaker A: Handsome. All right. She's bizarre now.
[00:52:00] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:52:01] Speaker A: All Highland cue to me. But there's got to be someone I know in that bunch. You know Olivia Newton John. You told me. I thought she was English. You said she's.
[00:52:09] Speaker B: We did Sheena Eastern and you just blanked it. Now this game's over. You.
[00:52:13] Speaker A: I like it.
[00:52:14] Speaker B: Could have been a. This could have been a great section of this show.
[00:52:19] Speaker A: Name five other than those people. Five Scottish people go, Mike Myers.
[00:52:25] Speaker C: Mike Myers.
[00:52:26] Speaker B: Who's Canadian.
[00:52:27] Speaker C: Yeah, but he's the Scottish guy.
[00:52:30] Speaker A: Mel Gibson.
Martin Gallagher, famous comedian.
[00:52:40] Speaker C: Oh, what's his name?
[00:52:42] Speaker A: Rest in Peace, Shania Twain.
[00:52:46] Speaker C: No, he's always on a celebrity Jeopardy on snl, but it's not him.
[00:52:52] Speaker A: Burt Ren. Oh, yes. Sean Connery.
[00:52:54] Speaker C: Sean Connery.
[00:52:55] Speaker A: He's Scottish.
[00:52:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:57] Speaker A: Yeah, good one.
Olivia Newton John.
[00:53:01] Speaker B: Australia.
[00:53:01] Speaker A: She's Australian. I thought we were doing Australia.
[00:53:04] Speaker B: I'm not playing this anymore.
[00:53:06] Speaker A: Was that Scottish? Those were all Scottish birds?
[00:53:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
Oh, there's no way on this planet film buff like you does not know who Kelly McDonald is. So you can piss off.
[00:53:18] Speaker C: I know.
[00:53:19] Speaker B: That's almost an admission of guilt.
[00:53:20] Speaker A: Well, look it up.
Kelly McDonald. I never heard of such person. I know Kevin McDonald from Kids in the Hall. Is he Scottish?
[00:53:31] Speaker B: No, he's Canadian.
[00:53:35] Speaker A: McDonald, is that Norm MacDonald? Scottish.
A lot of. A lot of Canadian Scots.
All right, I'm looking at Kelly McDonald. You mean Kelly LeBrock people.
[00:53:48] Speaker B: It's funny how when people came to America, they immediately went to their home.
[00:53:54] Speaker C: Like what you call it the same latitude.
[00:53:58] Speaker B: Yeah, like their home. Like British people stayed up in East. Because it's always pissing it down. It's very green. Yeah, the Scottish. Or went to Canada where it's like full of moose and.
And then all the Spanish immediately piled down to Florida like, oh, we can't stand there.
[00:54:14] Speaker C: Yeah.
Stick with what you know.
[00:54:17] Speaker B: Let's get on to the review. Anyway.
[00:54:19] Speaker C: Why Do.
[00:54:19] Speaker B: I basically ruined it.
[00:54:21] Speaker C: Why do.
[00:54:21] Speaker A: Well, I. I didn't mean to.
[00:54:22] Speaker C: Why do Scottish people dislike the British?
[00:54:26] Speaker B: Just, you know, you're immediate history. Yeah. Your immediate neighbor and blah, blah, blah.
[00:54:31] Speaker A: Kelly McDonald. She looks familiar.
Looking her up now.
Yeah. Highland Q this. None of these women do anything for me. I'm. I'm happily married. And you're trying to, you know, bring me into the.
[00:54:47] Speaker C: Your.
[00:54:48] Speaker A: Your spider web of, you know, infidelity. I'm not going there.
[00:54:54] Speaker B: Do you know that a spider in. Inspired Robert the Bruce to take on the British?
[00:54:59] Speaker A: Wasn't that in Braveheart?
Robert the Bruce.
[00:55:06] Speaker B: That's William Wallace.
[00:55:08] Speaker A: Robert the Bruce is. A beer from three Floyds has a Robert the Bruce.
[00:55:15] Speaker B: I think Robert the Bruce is a famous highland king, and he'd been defeated by the British so many times, and he was beaten back into his highland retreat, and he thought about giving up, and he saw a spider spinning a web, and every time the spider almost got its web finished, the wind would blow the web away or something, and the spider just kept plugging. It was like, no, I'm just gonna keep rebuilding it.
[00:55:43] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:55:44] Speaker B: And that inspired him.
[00:55:44] Speaker C: He's a house.
[00:55:45] Speaker B: That inspired him to take on the English.
[00:55:47] Speaker A: Wow.
That's true.
[00:55:49] Speaker B: Mm.
[00:55:50] Speaker A: Here's some famous Scottish people. Sean Connery, number one answer on the board. Ewan McGregor. Now. Ewan McGregor. I didn't realize it was Scottish. My wife. Yeah, right.
[00:56:02] Speaker B: Train spot in Star wars, etc.
[00:56:04] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:56:04] Speaker A: Come on. Ewan McGregor. My wife thinks I have a.
An attraction to him because.
[00:56:10] Speaker B: Ah, there you go.
[00:56:12] Speaker A: Swipe right. What do you call it? McGregor. If you said you and McGregor, I'd say, what do I say?
[00:56:16] Speaker B: Swipe.
[00:56:17] Speaker C: Swipe right for bonnie lass.
[00:56:19] Speaker A: Bonnie lass.
Gerard Butler.
[00:56:22] Speaker B: Maybe you just like Scottish people in a skirt.
Male, female, you're not bothered.
[00:56:28] Speaker A: Alexander Graham Bell.
[00:56:30] Speaker B: Yeah, I was gonna say Alexander Graham Bell. He invented ton of shit. Andy Murray, the miserable tennis player.
[00:56:39] Speaker A: I thought he was British.
He always represented.
[00:56:42] Speaker B: Scottish is British. English is British. Welsh is British. We're not doing that one again.
[00:56:49] Speaker A: No, no, no, no.
Scottish is not British. Scottish is great British.
Great Britain. United Kingdom.
British.
[00:56:59] Speaker B: Whoa.
[00:56:59] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. We got to get going on this. Thanks for reminding me of that time. Right, speaking of accent. British. British is Brit from Britain.
British.
[00:57:08] Speaker C: Isn't that what British means?
[00:57:10] Speaker A: I didn't think so.
[00:57:11] Speaker C: I thought it meant you're from Britain, like you're American. Means you're from America.
[00:57:14] Speaker A: Right.
Not from Guam.
[00:57:17] Speaker C: Yeah. Like, you could be Canadian and say you're American.
[00:57:20] Speaker A: What?
[00:57:20] Speaker C: You can be Canadian and say you're American, just like you can be Scottish and say that you're British.
[00:57:26] Speaker A: Really, you can. So they could say they're British.
[00:57:31] Speaker C: The Wild World.
[00:57:35] Speaker A: All right, I want to look. I want to look up more. Gosh, people, you guys go ahead and talk, all right?
[00:57:44] Speaker B: So let's.
You go. You lead. You know, I'm done talking this episode.
[00:57:49] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:57:49] Speaker A: David Hume, he's a philosopher. You know him.
[00:57:53] Speaker C: What'd you think of the stage? What'd you think of the stage setup? What do you think? The sign behind Fern Brady, the neon sign of her name.
[00:58:01] Speaker B: It's all right.
Neither positive nor negative.
[00:58:05] Speaker C: Just kind of in the middle on it.
[00:58:06] Speaker A: Billy Connolly.
[00:58:08] Speaker C: Where was this performed?
[00:58:10] Speaker B: Glasgow, actually. No, not Glas. You say Glasgow. If you say Glasgow, you get your ass kicked.
[00:58:17] Speaker A: Yeah, Glasgow.
[00:58:18] Speaker B: Glasgow. That's how they say it.
Second most intelligent person, Gordon McDonald, a lad from Glasgow who I worked with.
[00:58:28] Speaker A: Tony Blair.
[00:58:29] Speaker C: Tony Blair? Is he the magician?
[00:58:31] Speaker A: No, he's Prime Minister.
[00:58:33] Speaker C: Oh, okay.
[00:58:35] Speaker B: Let's carry on. Anyway.
[00:58:37] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, what made you pick this one?
[00:58:42] Speaker B: Obviously, I did it to annoy Bill, specifically.
[00:58:46] Speaker A: I don't.
[00:58:46] Speaker C: Yeah, I don't know why. Bill, what did you find annoying about this one?
[00:58:51] Speaker A: I didn't find any of it annoying.
[00:58:52] Speaker B: Well, it's a female comedian. We know how he feels about that.
[00:58:55] Speaker A: Not true.
[00:58:56] Speaker C: With an accent he doesn't like any other countries.
[00:58:58] Speaker B: Xenophobic.
So I thought that then.
[00:59:03] Speaker C: Oh, and what, on top of that, she's a.
[00:59:06] Speaker B: She's a very dark.
[00:59:08] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, dark.
[00:59:11] Speaker A: Oh, she's dark.
[00:59:12] Speaker C: Which one of those three annoyed you the most? Bill.
[00:59:14] Speaker A: Hold on.
Annie Lennox. Scottish.
[00:59:18] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:59:19] Speaker A: Do you know that?
[00:59:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:21] Speaker A: Why didn't you say that?
And how about Susan Boyle?
You know him?
[00:59:26] Speaker C: No, Her.
[00:59:28] Speaker A: That was a Freudian slip. You know him?
Susan Boyle.
[00:59:31] Speaker B: That was a bit sexist, wasn't it?
[00:59:32] Speaker A: Donovan.
[00:59:33] Speaker C: Donovan's Donovan?
[00:59:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:35] Speaker A: No, not Donovan. Oh, Donovan, the singer.
[00:59:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:38] Speaker A: His last name's Leech.
[00:59:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:40] Speaker A: And Robbie Coltrane, the actor.
[00:59:43] Speaker B: I wouldn't surprise you. Wouldn't know a lot of bands like Big country with Scott.
[00:59:47] Speaker A: I love Big Country.
Great song.
[00:59:50] Speaker B: Wet, Wet, Wet.
Scottish.
Well, there's loads of them. Altered Images.
Very musical race, really, considering they. You know the bagpipes.
[01:00:01] Speaker C: Oh, yeah.
How do you go from bagpipes being so musical?
[01:00:07] Speaker B: Heather's friend plays bagpipes and she gets a shitload of cash for, like, weddings and stuff.
[01:00:14] Speaker C: For sure.
[01:00:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:00:15] Speaker A: Funerals.
[01:00:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:00:17] Speaker C: Yep. Yeah.
[01:00:18] Speaker B: You can clean up dance cards full with bagpipes tip for you.
[01:00:22] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:00:22] Speaker A: Working all the time.
[01:00:23] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:00:24] Speaker A: You got to learn the Pipes. Seriously, because you look Scottish. Doesn't he?
[01:00:28] Speaker C: I could pass.
[01:00:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:00:30] Speaker A: Ginger.
[01:00:31] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:00:33] Speaker B: Anyway, plowing on.
So I picked it to annoy Bill.
[01:00:37] Speaker C: Yeah. And then build James McAvoy.
[01:00:40] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, he's.
[01:00:41] Speaker C: He's big.
[01:00:41] Speaker A: Brian Cox, the actor.
Alan Cumming.
Who's Lewis Capaldi.
[01:00:52] Speaker C: So did it work? The annoying tactics?
[01:00:55] Speaker B: Lewis Capaldi is another musician.
[01:00:58] Speaker C: What? Oh, there's an all time low.
[01:01:02] Speaker A: No, it's fine.
Fern Brady.
[01:01:06] Speaker C: I don't. So
[01:01:09] Speaker A: she comes out. I like her right away, right off the bat.
I like the sign. The neon sign you guys were talking about.
[01:01:16] Speaker C: I liked it too.
[01:01:17] Speaker A: I thought it was nice, simple, understated, but like a little glitzy with the neon.
Right. She can bring that anyway.
[01:01:24] Speaker C: Does she bring that everywhere she goes?
[01:01:25] Speaker A: You think she should? Yeah, it's easy, you know, it's not like.
[01:01:29] Speaker C: Yeah, they're like, oh, thank God your name's Fern Brady. We've hanging into the sign for no reason for 20 years.
[01:01:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Right. Just waiting for a friend, Brady, to show up.
Where was this? Is this in like a big theater? Is it a club? It's sort of small. Right where she was.
[01:01:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:01:42] Speaker A: She's not a big. Now tell me she's. She's not big.
[01:01:45] Speaker B: She is big.
[01:01:46] Speaker A: Yeah, she's big. Over there.
[01:01:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:01:48] Speaker A: Not here.
[01:01:49] Speaker B: Not here.
[01:01:53] Speaker A: She, you know, she. You know who's got to be Scottish. Not on the list. I was looking. Shrek.
Yeah, he's got to be Scottish.
[01:02:02] Speaker C: But we said Mike Myers already.
[01:02:03] Speaker A: Yeah, he's doing that Scottish accent.
[01:02:05] Speaker C: He does it in like every movie he ever made. Yeah, there's some character.
[01:02:08] Speaker A: He's not Scottish, ironically.
[01:02:12] Speaker C: Is his dad Scottish?
[01:02:13] Speaker B: His dad was Scottish. He's obsessed with his dad. And his dad, his dad taught, like, played all Peter Sellers stuff. So, like when they did that Peter Sellers. HBO did the Peter Sellers thing, they thought it would be a two horse. Mike Myers basically was ready to pay HBO to let him play Peter Sellers.
Same for Steve Coogan. And then they give it to Jeffrey Rush. Lol.
[01:02:41] Speaker C: Who's Jeffrey Rush?
[01:02:42] Speaker A: Is he Scottish?
[01:02:43] Speaker B: He's Australian.
[01:02:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
That's. They're very similar Scottish and Australians to me.
[01:02:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
Scots mainly went to Canada and Australia. A lot of them in both.
[01:02:58] Speaker A: Was Scotland a penal colony for the British at one point?
[01:03:02] Speaker B: No, Scotland was wild and untamable. That's why Hadrian Wall.
[01:03:06] Speaker C: Good for them.
[01:03:07] Speaker A: You mean the land over there?
Not good farming, I wouldn't think.
[01:03:12] Speaker B: No, very good farming. But the Romans who occupied Britain for 400 years, eventually just built a wall straight across the top of England to keep the buggers out.
Large sections of it.
[01:03:27] Speaker A: What's that called, that wall called?
[01:03:28] Speaker B: Hadrian's Wall. Hadrian being the.
The emperor that built it. And there's a British bat. There's a British joke band called the Mac Lads who sing disgusting lyrics to regular show. Think you love them.
And every time they tour Scotland, they call it the Hadrian's Wall Restoration Fund tour.
[01:03:52] Speaker A: So the wall is like the. It's like a decrepit wall now.
[01:03:56] Speaker B: Yeah, it's all battered down now, obviously, but there's sections of it.
[01:04:03] Speaker C: So.
[01:04:04] Speaker A: So you picked this. This gal to annoy me and. Stop saying that. That.
That I don't like female comedians. Stop it. I don't want to hear that anymore.
[01:04:13] Speaker B: What are the stats currently running?
[01:04:15] Speaker A: Yeah, that doesn't mean anything.
But I don't like female comedians.
You.
[01:04:20] Speaker C: You're just none.
[01:04:23] Speaker B: Is that the same as, like, how a batting average means nothing in baseball?
[01:04:32] Speaker A: Fair enough.
She comes out, she's.
I thought it was going to be very similar to Josie Long, who I did not care for at all.
Her humor or anything.
[01:04:48] Speaker B: Gender or a foreignness.
[01:04:49] Speaker A: No. Yeah. But I come to like this. I like Fern Brady.
Contrary to popular opinion, I thought she was. She's very accessible and likable and I like her humor that she comes out with.
She says she's got her. She's excited to have her own audience. She's kind of self. Very self deprecating.
And yeah, I. I like her very much. She doesn't drink like me and you. Not a drinker.
And yeah, she's. And she's. She's a dirtier comic. I wouldn't say she's filthy, but she
[01:05:25] Speaker C: was dirty, not filthy.
[01:05:26] Speaker A: She's not like a Steph Tolevo level of filth.
Steph Tolev's on a whole nother level.
[01:05:33] Speaker C: Yeah, that's right.
[01:05:34] Speaker A: She's just going.
[01:05:34] Speaker C: That's over the top.
[01:05:35] Speaker A: Plumbing the depths of filth.
But she's dirty and she's pretty middle of the road. I mean, in terms of comedy, all the things that we complained about on the show about comedians being, you know, too niche with. With their act. She's. She's jumping all over the board.
I like that.
[01:05:55] Speaker B: I was. I was pretty much hooked in all the way, but I was very worried out of the gate. This is going to be Scotland, England, Scotland, England, Scotland, England.
[01:06:05] Speaker C: Yeah. Okay.
[01:06:05] Speaker B: You know, and I was just like, oh, God, you know what I mean?
[01:06:09] Speaker A: I'm now your version of America's black,
[01:06:12] Speaker C: white, yeah, black people are.
[01:06:14] Speaker A: That's why. White.
[01:06:15] Speaker C: A version, maybe?
[01:06:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:06:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:06:19] Speaker B: But I think she just. That was an elephant in the room for her and I think she sensed that. She's doing this show in Glasgow and no one really cared about it.
[01:06:28] Speaker A: Oh, this was in Glasgow?
[01:06:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:06:29] Speaker A: Oh.
[01:06:30] Speaker B: And I think. I don't know if she sussed it out, but she's like, these people don't care. We're all Scottish. Why do I need to be doing this? This is an act for London, not Scotland.
[01:06:40] Speaker A: Yeah, but you have a, you know, supportive audience to take the piss out of England. I would think it would be all going at them.
[01:06:49] Speaker B: Did you look at the audience, though? Every time they panned onto them, they were pretty stone faced.
[01:06:54] Speaker A: I only noticed that once, really, when she was talking about abortion. And then they panned the crowd and one woman stone faced. But she may have been stone faced throughout. Yeah, she was really enjoying it.
I thought she. Does she look like anybody? Does she remind you of anybody?
Americans.
[01:07:12] Speaker B: A Chicago comedian who recently left.
[01:07:16] Speaker C: Recently left Chicago?
[01:07:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:07:19] Speaker A: Carl Kozlowski.
[01:07:22] Speaker B: Female.
[01:07:22] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:07:23] Speaker B: Small, petite.
[01:07:25] Speaker C: Okay.
[01:07:26] Speaker B: Cullen, Comedian. You don't know this comedian, but I think you might.
[01:07:31] Speaker C: Yeah, it's not ringing a bell.
[01:07:32] Speaker B: Claire.
[01:07:34] Speaker C: Oh, I didn't know she left Chicago. Claire Stumby.
[01:07:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:07:36] Speaker C: Oh, okay. Where'd she go? New York.
[01:07:38] Speaker B: I don't know.
[01:07:40] Speaker A: Make it big.
[01:07:40] Speaker C: Yeah, I could see it.
[01:07:42] Speaker B: I mean, she's a double. That is a pretty close.
[01:07:45] Speaker C: Yep.
[01:07:47] Speaker B: You don't know this girl, but I show you a picture of her and you'll go, yeah, dead on.
[01:07:52] Speaker A: She just looks like it was a Scottish. Leah Remini. You know, Leah Remini.
[01:07:58] Speaker C: Who's that?
[01:07:58] Speaker A: Leah Remini maybe is how you pronounce her last name. She's the. She's the last from Kings and Queens. King of Queens?
[01:08:05] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:08:06] Speaker A: Oh, Kevin James is wife on King.
[01:08:08] Speaker B: She escaped Scientology and Yes. Talks about.
[01:08:11] Speaker A: Yeah, she. And she uncovered a lot of things in Scientology.
She reminds me of her.
[01:08:16] Speaker C: Yeah, Yeah, I can see it.
[01:08:17] Speaker A: Brassy.
[01:08:19] Speaker B: This.
[01:08:19] Speaker A: This scale's brassy, right?
[01:08:24] Speaker B: Say it again.
[01:08:24] Speaker A: We say it was brassy.
[01:08:26] Speaker C: Did we say somebody else was brassy? Yeah, we did.
[01:08:28] Speaker A: Way back in season one. What season we in? We gotta become how many we got in season two.
[01:08:33] Speaker B: Whoa.
Nikki Glaze is brassy, right?
[01:08:36] Speaker C: Yeah. Nikki Glazer's.
[01:08:37] Speaker A: She's.
She's brash.
Brash and brush is just in your face.
[01:08:43] Speaker B: What's the difference?
[01:08:44] Speaker A: He's just got a little spunkin attitude and we'll tell you what for. But brash is just Filth.
[01:08:52] Speaker C: Yeah. Filthy.
[01:08:54] Speaker A: Offensive. She's brassy.
[01:08:56] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[01:08:58] Speaker A: Like it like a. Like a cleaned up, brash, brassy.
[01:09:04] Speaker B: I love the line, I'm a smart woman trapped in a Scottish accent.
[01:09:07] Speaker C: Yeah, that was great.
[01:09:08] Speaker A: I wrote that down.
[01:09:09] Speaker B: She's a one liner machine.
I like when she was saying to her boring boyfriend that she wanted to get into a threesome and he just went, have you been talking to your bohemian friends again? That was a classic.
The badger puppet story.
Utterly hilarious.
[01:09:27] Speaker A: Good.
[01:09:33] Speaker B: Gradually. I don't want to be a gradually appreciated beauty.
[01:09:37] Speaker A: Yes, yes.
[01:09:41] Speaker B: I look like a Cuban revolutionary at age 10.
[01:09:45] Speaker A: Yes, yeah.
[01:09:47] Speaker B: It's just everything. She's a wordsmith and you know me, I'm a sucker for a word.
[01:09:53] Speaker A: So you like a wordsmith.
[01:09:54] Speaker B: She told a story about how she had an abortion in.
She could have an abortion in Leeds, but she could have one faster in Doncaster. Now you got to know a little bit of British geog there, obviously, but she was like, I'm. I can't remember what the thing is, but it was like, I'm not having an abortion in Doncaster. I want my fetus to experience.
What do you call. I mean, you wouldn't be laughing because you're Catholic.
[01:10:22] Speaker A: Yes, I find this offensive.
But why, why joke about the death of a baby? You know, cuz.
[01:10:29] Speaker B: Well, she was exposing the.
The grief that she was given for.
[01:10:35] Speaker A: I get it.
[01:10:36] Speaker B: Do you ever flip me? You know when you're driving down Western and there's the. The clinic on the right hand side, it's north. I want to say it's north.
[01:10:46] Speaker A: Headed south. Heading south.
[01:10:47] Speaker B: Heading south. It's the other side of the street from Owls. Italian beef. So the three way intersection,
[01:10:59] Speaker C: clinic, diversity.
[01:11:01] Speaker B: Every now and again there'll be the signs out there, the wankers with the signs standing out there.
[01:11:07] Speaker A: Parenthood. Or is it an abortion clinic?
[01:11:10] Speaker B: I don't care what it is. The people are out there. Abortion is murder, blah blah, blah, blah. So I always slow down and flip them off. Okay, right.
[01:11:19] Speaker A: You do.
[01:11:19] Speaker B: Yeah. My Mrs. Not happy with that maneuver. Not happy with that maneuver.
[01:11:24] Speaker A: Why are you getting involved in that?
[01:11:27] Speaker B: You know, why are they getting involved in it?
To my mind, it's a. It's a dialogue for women and women only.
[01:11:37] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I'm not gonna.
[01:11:38] Speaker B: I'm not trying to bait you out of your Catholic Catholicism here.
[01:11:42] Speaker A: And that's the other thing I like about her. She's Catholic.
[01:11:44] Speaker B: But don't flip them off if you're in the car.
[01:11:47] Speaker C: What do they do when you flip them off?
[01:11:49] Speaker B: They don't even see me. Obviously, I'm coming by in a car at 20 miles an hour.
[01:11:53] Speaker C: But who?
[01:11:55] Speaker A: Tell me, because there's things I don't understand because it's. This is foreign humor.
[01:12:01] Speaker B: Tell me now, both of you. Subtitles on or off?
[01:12:04] Speaker C: Off. I wanted to try to do it on.
[01:12:06] Speaker A: Okay. Use a lot of. Use Y O U S E. Use like Joe Pesci.
Use the use. Guys.
[01:12:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:12:18] Speaker A: Who is Arlene Foster? Who is this? Now she references Arlene Foster, who she does not like.
[01:12:24] Speaker B: So the DUP is a Northern Irish Protestant.
Political party.
[01:12:35] Speaker A: Dup?
[01:12:36] Speaker B: I don't know what it stands for. It's probably something Irish.
It probably stands for the Ulster Party. Oh, right.
The DUP is.
[01:12:51] Speaker A: Why does that have anything to do with Scotland? That's Ireland.
[01:12:53] Speaker B: Because the Protestants in Ireland are all of Scottish ancestry. Oh, so there's a lot of aggravation between Scottish Protestants and the iron Catholics and Irish specifically.
[01:13:10] Speaker A: There's no Catholic Scotties, are there?
[01:13:13] Speaker B: Yeah, there's a few. Most of them were burned at the stake, but there's a few left.
[01:13:17] Speaker A: Here's one.
[01:13:17] Speaker B: And there's a lot of antagonism between the protease and there's. She had a really funny sect.
She mentioned it. She's like, if this is in America, I just threw in some sectarian humor for her.
So this is how it explained to me. And it could be total bollocks.
I was like, how come there's Protestants in. In, you know, in Ireland?
That don't make no sense. When.
When I was young, I asked my dad about the whole trouble situation.
[01:13:50] Speaker A: Yeah, the troubles, like.
[01:13:51] Speaker B: And I was like, I don't really want to know about it, but I'm going to ask anyway, right? So I asked my dad about it and I said, why don't they just tell all the Protestants? You got. You got it. You got 10 years to get the out of Ireland.
[01:14:05] Speaker A: They were the landowners, the Protestants, Right?
[01:14:08] Speaker B: And it's that whole thing, isn't it? Of like, the haves and the have. It's not about religion. It's haves and have not, Right?
[01:14:15] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[01:14:16] Speaker B: So I said, well, why don't they solve Ireland by telling all the Protestants? You got 10 years to get the F out. Then we're handing the whole thing back.
And you lot will be genocided, no question.
[01:14:29] Speaker A: Who will be genocide?
[01:14:30] Speaker B: The Protestants if you stay. Yeah, you will be genocided. Beware. That's what's going to happen.
[01:14:39] Speaker A: Because, like, the way you think.
[01:14:41] Speaker B: Because there'll be no one to protect you. There'll be no army, there'll be no British government to protect you. So you take your chances, right? So to me I was like, that's simple, it's how you do it.
And then I was like, you know, why are they pro. So I said to myself, why are the Protestants so antagonistic? You know what I mean? Like the Orange Men just marching the black intense, just marching straight through the goddamn Catholic areas.
And his mate, my dad's mate who was sitting there goes, oh, they're just. Because they're psychos.
And I go, well, where are they from? And he goes, they're all Scottish, they're ex Scottish Protestant that were placed there to control the land and blah blah, blah. And they, they're even worse.
[01:15:26] Speaker A: So the Irish and the Scots, they get along generally or. No, I know, not like I said, the Protestants in Ireland, but yeah, but I would think that they would have a common enemy in the British. Yeah. And hate on you guys.
[01:15:39] Speaker C: Well, they are the British, but yeah.
[01:15:42] Speaker A: Which I still don't understand.
[01:15:44] Speaker B: I don't know, honestly, I could be oversimplifying, but that's how it was explained to me as a 10 year old and I never push any further.
[01:15:52] Speaker A: It's a good point. Why don't they just get the fuck out of there? It's not their land. But it is at one point.
[01:15:58] Speaker B: Well, this is how you solve any land, distribute just dispute. To my mind, you tell the people this is a false situation.
Ireland needs to be united, but you can't tell them, get out tomorrow. You can't uproot your whole life, right? Like if you're gonna have kids, you need to get on the next boat back to Glasgow and have them there because that's where your life's gonna be in 10 years.
Right.
[01:16:28] Speaker A: Sounds similar to what's going on here.
Ice, you gotta get the out of here. Says Trump, not me.
[01:16:36] Speaker C: Right, right.
[01:16:38] Speaker A: Your life's not here, it's over there, back in Mexico.
[01:16:41] Speaker B: But if you do things with lead time, it works. Case in point, the British out of Hong Kong.
There was a 99 year lease, everyone knew the lease was up, it wasn't going to be renewed.
You either stay and submit to Chinese rule or you get on the next plane back to England because you ain't gonna be welcome here anymore.
But that was a managed situation.
You can't just say to people, get out now. You can't uproot their lives. That's vastly unfair. But you can say 10 years time, 20 years time, this is over.
[01:17:22] Speaker A: Well, this is Maybe the solution of the Middle east and Israel and Palestine.
[01:17:31] Speaker B: Send me over. Okay.
[01:17:32] Speaker A: The great negotiator. Who's the great negotiator? Was it Lyndon Johnson?
[01:17:37] Speaker B: It's not a bad negotiation. It's about change control. It's about managed change.
[01:17:43] Speaker A: All right, let's get too deep in
[01:17:45] Speaker B: the weeds here and it's half past, so you. You gotta wrap this up.
[01:17:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:17:49] Speaker B: You gotta.
[01:17:49] Speaker C: You got some Twin Peaks to watch.
[01:17:51] Speaker A: Episodes 15 through 22. Yeah.
[01:17:55] Speaker B: Huh.
[01:17:55] Speaker C: How long are they?
[01:17:56] Speaker A: About an hour.
Yeah.
[01:17:58] Speaker B: God, I've barely shut the up this episode. I'm gonna.
[01:18:02] Speaker A: No, yeah, you've been great. You've carried down.
Carried the show today.
[01:18:06] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:18:06] Speaker A: Give us a history lesson.
[01:18:08] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:18:08] Speaker A: Get all fired up. When he did that, that Scottish accent. We got the Mick Hyland Q or Bonnie Lass. I like that game.
[01:18:15] Speaker C: Right.
[01:18:16] Speaker A: Tell any of the people.
Yeah. All right. I want to say this about Fern Brady. She got very nice teeth, which I don't know if that is also characteristic of Scottish people where they. They have bad teeth as well.
[01:18:32] Speaker B: She mentioned the. The Scottish stereotype.
[01:18:35] Speaker A: Right.
[01:18:35] Speaker B: She goes, I don't want to stand up here and do Scottish jokes. Oh, we're all fat.
[01:18:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:18:41] Speaker B: Dumb alcoholics or whatever.
[01:18:43] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. But nothing about the teeth. Those teeth were wonderful teeth.
I think they were caps.
[01:18:50] Speaker B: That's an old. An old, old, old stereotype.
[01:18:54] Speaker A: But is it. Is it true about the Scottish or just the British
[01:19:00] Speaker B: situation has been remedied.
[01:19:03] Speaker A: Right.
Fluoride.
[01:19:04] Speaker B: A lot of Scottish people have teeth missing because they're just constantly brawling.
[01:19:12] Speaker A: Answer me this, sir. She says you're not. This is. When she references America. If this makes it over to America, they're not going to understand. They're going to need someone to explain that. When she says.
Talking about somebody, I don't remember who. Now she says, you're a fucking spoon. What does that mean?
[01:19:27] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, yeah. She does say that.
[01:19:32] Speaker A: Gary, explain.
[01:19:33] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:19:34] Speaker B: Spoon was just a.
You know how language is always evolving? Right. So when you were kids, you had different insults and they came and they went, right?
[01:19:44] Speaker C: Sure.
[01:19:45] Speaker B: So one point, your spoon was an insult.
[01:19:50] Speaker C: Okay.
[01:19:51] Speaker B: Like I remember.
[01:19:52] Speaker A: What does that mean?
[01:19:53] Speaker C: Yeah, what do they.
[01:19:54] Speaker B: Just means you're an idiot. Yeah.
[01:19:56] Speaker A: What does that do with the spoon?
[01:19:57] Speaker B: Nothing. But that's language. You can't explain.
[01:20:00] Speaker C: Sharp.
[01:20:00] Speaker A: A knife is sharp.
[01:20:01] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:20:02] Speaker A: A spoon is dull.
[01:20:03] Speaker C: About as dull as a spoon.
[01:20:05] Speaker B: I remember this, though. When we were at university, it was spong. We would say, sponge sounds even worse. Yeah.
Because we had a football team and the year below us Had a football team that wanted to play us and this girl who was trying to put the team together, put up sign up here if you wanna, you know, join the. The freshman football team. No spongs, please.
And so me and my mate put in a load of like, Nigel Spong. Diego Spongadonga.
[01:20:42] Speaker A: What does spong mean?
[01:20:44] Speaker B: It's just made up. It's language.
[01:20:47] Speaker A: Cottage. Like in university, when you said cottage instead of another word, cottage.
[01:20:51] Speaker B: What did you have at school? What did you call people? And there was no reason or rhyme to why.
[01:20:57] Speaker C: We didn't really have those.
There was no, like, equivalent to spoon. Something that just came and went like that. Yeah, you just call it, like, lose. Like you just call somebody a loser. Is that pretty common?
[01:21:08] Speaker A: We used to say instead of lock the door, throw the bolt.
[01:21:12] Speaker C: Really?
[01:21:13] Speaker A: Or sweet bag, we call it a
[01:21:17] Speaker C: basement or a cellar.
[01:21:18] Speaker B: Sweet bag for scrotum.
[01:21:20] Speaker A: No, sweet bag would be like, oh, I didn't.
I forgot to mail that letter. Oh, sweet bag. Like you what?
[01:21:27] Speaker B: What?
[01:21:28] Speaker A: Like nice job not doing what you're supposed.
[01:21:31] Speaker C: Yeah, sarcasm like that. Yeah.
[01:21:33] Speaker A: Not. Not nouns as much.
Like, you wouldn't say, like, mad slag who loves shagging.
I'm a mad slag who loves shagging.
[01:21:46] Speaker B: What?
[01:21:47] Speaker A: I did like that. She did. This is the first time I can ever remember a woman referring to masturbation in this way. In the way that she talks about it, which I thought was very refreshing.
But then she. She refers to what she's doing as wanking.
[01:22:00] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:22:02] Speaker A: Like I'm wanking.
[01:22:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:22:04] Speaker A: I never would think of a woman as wanking.
[01:22:06] Speaker C: You think of.
[01:22:06] Speaker A: Yeah, you think of a wank.
[01:22:08] Speaker C: Wink.
[01:22:09] Speaker A: And that's a term I. I use quite frequently. Wanking.
[01:22:11] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:22:12] Speaker A: Wanking on.
But you don't think of a woman as wanking it. She was talking about wanking it.
[01:22:17] Speaker B: Well, the 90s and early 2000s were. Were a time of great sexual awakening.
Equivalent. You know, women were making strides, but unfortunately the strides were to be more like dudes.
[01:22:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:22:35] Speaker B: So they would start saying, they would call, you know. Slag has always been a very bad term for a woman.
[01:22:41] Speaker A: What does slag mean? I've heard you use, you know, I
[01:22:43] Speaker B: mean, since you put it about a bit.
[01:22:45] Speaker A: Skag is a different word.
[01:22:47] Speaker B: It means stag is heroin.
[01:22:49] Speaker A: So skag means heroin. It also means dirty woman.
[01:22:53] Speaker B: Skank.
[01:22:54] Speaker A: Skank means that as well.
[01:22:55] Speaker C: Skag.
[01:22:58] Speaker B: What was the one you used to say on stage?
[01:23:03] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know, but I like how she talked about. Then she referenced jizz. Right. And then how disgusting jizz is. And she talks about pineapple. If you can eat pineapple to make your jizz more palatable. Is that true?
[01:23:15] Speaker C: No, it's been a rumor.
[01:23:17] Speaker B: It's an urban myth in it.
[01:23:18] Speaker A: But then the brilliant joke she has is, you know, period blood, like, because they say, well, honey, it's jizz has lots of protein and minerals and nutrients in it, so it's good for you. And she's like, yeah, period blood has lots of iron in it.
Good job.
[01:23:38] Speaker B: We used to say something, if something was good, it was skilled.
[01:23:41] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, skill.
[01:23:42] Speaker B: Oh, that's skill.
[01:23:44] Speaker A: That's skill. It's kind of like how the kids today say, that's fire.
[01:23:47] Speaker C: Yeah, fire.
[01:23:48] Speaker A: That's fire.
[01:23:50] Speaker C: The fat with the ph.
[01:23:51] Speaker A: Yeah. Fat.
[01:23:52] Speaker C: Yeah. That was it.
[01:23:53] Speaker A: Dope.
[01:23:54] Speaker C: People still say dope.
[01:23:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:23:56] Speaker C: I say dope.
[01:23:57] Speaker A: That's dope.
All right, well, anything else here to add? She's a bisexual. Is she really a bisexual?
[01:24:04] Speaker C: I. She seems like. She seems like she is, yeah.
[01:24:07] Speaker B: She had a joke about it and she, like, yeah, well, you know, I'm not gonna believe it until you shag a woman on stage or something.
[01:24:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:24:13] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:24:15] Speaker A: It made me think, you know, I've said on this program, my wife's like, you're bisexual. I was like, no, I'm not really bisexual. I've said I'm bisexual.
[01:24:21] Speaker C: I'm not.
[01:24:21] Speaker A: I shouldn't go around saying I'm some kind of sexuality. I'm not.
I'm hetero.
I just want to clarify that for her. And Bill Begain.
[01:24:33] Speaker B: We haven't had a Begain mention in Epps. It, like. Yeah.
[01:24:36] Speaker A: I thought we talked about him last time.
[01:24:37] Speaker B: Are you still milking that queue?
[01:24:39] Speaker A: Yeah. That Highland Q. Build the game.
Sure am.
Sure.
[01:24:44] Speaker B: What's he giving you this week?
[01:24:46] Speaker A: Nothing. Nothing?
[01:24:47] Speaker C: Yeah, right.
[01:24:48] Speaker A: Yeah. He never delivered anything. You think I'm sitting on all those shirts he said he was going to give us?
[01:24:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:24:53] Speaker C: I don't know.
[01:24:56] Speaker A: All right, well, I'm going to say.
Well, you're going to go ahead and kick us off. I say slags.
We're on a slag.
[01:25:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:25:09] Speaker A: What are you talking? Slag meter. The slag slag o meter and the slag O meter. How many slags would you give this bonnie lass?
[01:25:18] Speaker B: Well, I go last because you're the guests.
[01:25:22] Speaker C: Yeah, I'll go first. I'll give it four out of five.
[01:25:24] Speaker A: Wow.
[01:25:25] Speaker C: Yeah. I really enjoyed it.
[01:25:26] Speaker A: Four or five slags.
[01:25:27] Speaker C: She was really smart.
[01:25:28] Speaker A: Yeah, she was smart.
[01:25:30] Speaker C: It was a brand of comedy that I can enjoy.
[01:25:33] Speaker A: Yeah. She ever make her way stateside here, do her act?
You ever reach out to her, see if you can get her in here?
[01:25:40] Speaker B: It's. It's tricky. Like, so a lot of the. She. She really crested the wave because she was a star act on this taskmaster thing.
[01:25:49] Speaker A: Oh, she was on taskmaster.
[01:25:51] Speaker B: Oh, that was what I was. I was try. I invited Deanna and Kelsey to guest in this episode as subject matter experts. Oh, it been great because Kelsey's read, like, Fern Brady's autobiography and some other stuff.
[01:26:06] Speaker A: She's got an autobiography?
[01:26:07] Speaker B: Yeah. But neither were available for this specific time.
[01:26:13] Speaker A: She been in movies, this Fern Brady?
[01:26:14] Speaker B: Nah, she's. There's a lot of panel shows and stuff like that.
[01:26:20] Speaker A: Like Oliver Reed on that program.
[01:26:24] Speaker B: Now, a panel show is, like, just a shitty excuse for comedians.
[01:26:27] Speaker A: Oh, like. Oh, like Byron Allen's. Funny you should ask.
[01:26:31] Speaker B: There's a mill. It's really weird. There's a million of them in England, but they rarely take in America.
[01:26:39] Speaker A: Yeah, well, the Taylor Tomlinson has one as well. Or she did.
[01:26:42] Speaker B: Yeah, she did.
[01:26:44] Speaker A: All right, well, I'm gonna give her.
I did like her and I liked her jokes, but I didn't. I didn't laugh, you know, like, when am I gonna laugh again? When's something gonna really.
[01:26:55] Speaker C: Oh, really?
[01:26:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Did you let you laugh?
[01:27:00] Speaker C: I wasn't laughing loudly, but she was. Yeah, consistently.
She'll get a reaction.
[01:27:06] Speaker A: Maybe I need to, like, watch at a certain time of night.
[01:27:08] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:27:09] Speaker A: Have a. Have a glass of beer.
[01:27:11] Speaker C: A glass of beer.
[01:27:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:27:13] Speaker C: And your new wine glass.
[01:27:15] Speaker B: And maybe. Maybe don't follow 17 hours of.
[01:27:20] Speaker A: Yeah, I was. I'm beat.
So I'll give her three out of five slags.
Yeah.
[01:27:28] Speaker B: All right, I'm just gonna do four.
[01:27:30] Speaker A: You're gonna hear four slides? Yeah.
Now you disappointed that I didn't hate her? You thought I would hate on her?
[01:27:36] Speaker B: No, honestly, I'm over there. I'm over it now.
[01:27:42] Speaker A: We're moving on.
[01:27:43] Speaker B: I actually thought you would. You would like her because of your obsession with Scottish women.
[01:27:49] Speaker A: Yeah. No, again, fake news is what they call that. Fake news. Honey, I know you're listening. It's fake news. I don't know, like, any Scottish birds.
How come when I sent that thing, say, hey, send me the length of this bird. We're watching. You sent me some other thing.
[01:28:05] Speaker C: It was a cool video.
[01:28:06] Speaker A: Have you.
[01:28:07] Speaker C: Mark, were you familiar with that? The pool, Jamaican resting?
[01:28:11] Speaker B: I enjoyed it. Yeah.
[01:28:13] Speaker C: Yeah. It came up on my Discover Weekly on Spotify, and I was listening, like, what is this? An LCD I had no idea.
[01:28:21] Speaker B: Are we gonna do something now? When he asks, redundantly asks, who was it again? We'll just send him some nonsense.
[01:28:28] Speaker C: That's what I figured the plan was.
[01:28:30] Speaker B: I think that's my plan.
[01:28:30] Speaker C: If you scrolled up.
[01:28:32] Speaker A: I went to my notes from last week and I had Fern Brady written down. Then I was like. But I didn't write down the name of it. And so then I went back into the text and saw it, and then I found it myself.
[01:28:40] Speaker C: So.
See, look at that. You did it.
[01:28:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:28:43] Speaker A: Look at all my drawings.
[01:28:44] Speaker C: You accomplished something because we didn't hold your hand through it. And that's how you grow.
[01:28:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:28:49] Speaker C: It's really good.
[01:28:50] Speaker A: Fern Brady.
[01:28:51] Speaker C: Yep.
[01:28:52] Speaker A: Am I a good drawer?
[01:28:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:28:55] Speaker C: Yes, you're a very good driver.
[01:28:57] Speaker B: It's almost like she's in the room.
[01:28:58] Speaker C: Yeah. I thought she was here.
[01:28:59] Speaker A: Three Legged dog.
The potato.
[01:29:02] Speaker C: Huh?
Was that clock?
[01:29:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Clock that badger now. And death.
[01:29:09] Speaker B: Oh, badger anecdote was awesome.
[01:29:12] Speaker A: That was good. Yeah, it was good. All right, next week we're gonna be listening to the. We're gonna be talking about after watching the stylings of.
[01:29:19] Speaker C: Who is it? Big C. Yeah. Well, I sent a text message the other day. I had an idea.
So I got two options. Okay. I've got option one, which is to watch a two hour stand up special.
[01:29:30] Speaker B: I can't do it.
[01:29:31] Speaker C: Great.
[01:29:32] Speaker A: Who so hour you wanted us to watch? James Acaster?
[01:29:34] Speaker B: Yeah, and I backed off. I backed off.
[01:29:37] Speaker C: And so I was gonna do a two parter. Figure we could have one in the bank that way. But two hours is a long time. I even started to try. I tried to start what? I started watching the stand up special last night and I couldn't even make it through.
But it was going to be Eddie Izzard's dress to kill. So if.
[01:29:56] Speaker A: God, it's not gonna be.
[01:29:57] Speaker B: Wait, hang on. I thought it was gonna be Ms. Pat.
[01:29:59] Speaker C: No, I was kidding.
[01:30:01] Speaker A: Ms. Pat doesn't have a two hour special called. Jesus. Can you imagine what a trainer was called?
[01:30:07] Speaker C: Y' all want to hear something again? No. You want to hear.
[01:30:10] Speaker B: Y' all want to hear something twice?
[01:30:12] Speaker C: Twice? Yeah, because that's the only way it would be two hours.
[01:30:14] Speaker B: Oh, I. I was fished in then.
[01:30:18] Speaker C: No, it's gonna be Eddie. But instead we will watch one of somebody who has become a classic comic. Now we will watch Dave Attell's roadwork.
[01:30:29] Speaker A: Okay, Dave Attell. We haven't seen Dave Attell, have we?
[01:30:31] Speaker B: No, not yet.
[01:30:32] Speaker C: Nope.
[01:30:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. Dave Attell.
[01:30:36] Speaker B: It's funny, Yuri. We've been doing this for, what, 13 years now, it seems like. And we still have, like, major names that we haven't even scratched.
[01:30:47] Speaker C: Sorry. But that's the charm of it. You know, we. We have all these unique, different Fern Brady's and. And stuff like that. But then we also. Then we get to a classic every once in a while.
[01:30:56] Speaker A: Go back to Lenny Bruce. I can't very to announce mine.
[01:31:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:31:01] Speaker A: I'm so excited for it. Yeah.
[01:31:02] Speaker C: All right.
[01:31:03] Speaker A: Big one, Big one coming.
[01:31:05] Speaker C: Well, in that case.
[01:31:06] Speaker A: All right.
[01:31:07] Speaker C: All right. David tells roadwork, Davitel's road work.
[01:31:10] Speaker A: Let me write that down.
[01:31:11] Speaker C: Okay. And we'll text it to you.
[01:31:12] Speaker A: Where, where can I find that program?
[01:31:14] Speaker C: It said it was on Amazon prime, but that comment was from five years ago. So we'll find.
