[00:00:08] Speaker A: Oh, nice White Sox jacket. [00:00:09] Speaker B: Oh, thank you very much. [00:00:10] Speaker A: That was a costume change. [00:00:12] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. This was a gift from Chris Trani, esteemed comedian. He gave it to me because it was too large for him. [00:00:20] Speaker A: Is it. Is it new? [00:00:21] Speaker B: No, I've had it for a long time. It was just in the back of my closet, and I don't remember who was wearing something. Oh, you know what? I know exactly what it was. I don't know his name, but he's one of the producers of one of the shows here. He was wearing a shirt that looks like this on the Friday. Right. It was a Friday night, which was the night before the White Sox were playing that final, that Game five. And I saw him wearing. And I thought, oh, you know, I'm gonna wear tomorrow during this White Sox game, I'm gonna pull that jacket out of the back of my closet. [00:00:51] Speaker A: So a. That's a nice giveaway. [00:00:53] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. He said, it just doesn't fit. So he said, why don't you take. [00:00:57] Speaker A: It looks sharp. [00:00:58] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:00:59] Speaker A: Too bad about them white socks. [00:01:01] Speaker B: I know. Hey, you know what? I, I, I. You're right. Yeah. Too bad that they shat the bed the way they did, but at the same time, they were supposed to be so terrible this season for them to get to the second round of the playoffs. I applaud them. Yeah, that was great. [00:01:13] Speaker A: It was amazing. [00:01:14] Speaker B: Yeah, it was a good season. [00:01:15] Speaker C: Applaud them with a sound effect. [00:01:17] Speaker B: I'm running out of batteries. Okay, here we go. That's for the White Sox. And then this is what they're doing now. [00:01:28] Speaker A: Whiffin. [00:01:29] Speaker B: No, there's a golf club. But that is. That was their bats during that Game five. Yeah. They weren't hitting anything. [00:01:34] Speaker A: No. [00:01:34] Speaker B: It seemed like they didn't even want to win. No. Want to win. [00:01:40] Speaker A: You know, we don't do on the [00:01:41] Speaker B: show what we should probably do. Make people laugh. [00:01:44] Speaker A: Yeah. And say, welcome to the show. I'm Bill, and to my right here [00:01:49] Speaker C: is Mark, and I can't do any names while I'm applying for jobs. [00:01:53] Speaker A: Oh, really? [00:01:55] Speaker C: Did a job interview. [00:01:56] Speaker B: Let's make up a name for you. You're Harry McCrinkleberry. [00:02:02] Speaker A: No last names. [00:02:05] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, I guess. No last names. [00:02:06] Speaker A: We won't say your last name on the show. [00:02:09] Speaker B: Marky Mark. [00:02:10] Speaker A: So I had a blog. Yeah. Marky Mark. [00:02:12] Speaker B: That's original, right? Nobody's done that. [00:02:14] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:02:14] Speaker A: Years. I had a blog before anyone had a blog. Right. It was a blog for my basketball guys that we play basketball, and I would. We'd play Pick up basketball in the morning. I'd go home and I'd write stories about it, publish it. Right. Well, one of my mates, I wrote a story about him. [00:02:34] Speaker B: It didn't really have anything to do [00:02:35] Speaker A: with basketball, but I said he was having sex with his sister. Sister. [00:02:38] Speaker B: That's nice. On the blog, I mean, he was a huge fan. He was so happy about that. Yeah. [00:02:46] Speaker A: He did not like it to begin with, the fact that I used his name, his full name, and it ended up in a job interview search. He called me very upset. I had to take it right down. [00:02:59] Speaker C: Well, someone that we both knew and you knew particularly well. Very, very, very well. You knew. You knew her very, very, very, very well. Call me one time and. And messaged me and insisted I remove every post that they'd ever made from the Hago. Every reference to their name. And I said, you think I'm going to sit there and delete hundreds of goddamn posts? You have to go through all mine. Yeah. [00:03:39] Speaker A: And anything that was in reference to her or they or them. [00:03:43] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:44] Speaker A: She wanted you to remove. Could you have done that? Could you? [00:03:47] Speaker C: No, I said, you know, I'll try and do something, but I don't think [00:03:51] Speaker A: it's doable because she was trying to get a job or something. [00:03:55] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:56] Speaker A: Unbelievable. Well, I don't even understand what that was. It was like a chat room or it was an email listserv. What was, what was it? [00:04:03] Speaker C: Yahoo groups, which got retired and removed. [00:04:08] Speaker B: What does one have to do with the other anyway, you know, like, unless she's trying to get a job. I don't know. Like, unless she said something in one of these posts or one of these posts were specifically about something that interfered with the reason that she should get the. This job. [00:04:24] Speaker C: Most of the posts on the HAHA guy would lose you a job interview [00:04:29] Speaker A: if your name was on the. [00:04:32] Speaker B: The interview itself. Okay, so it's not like you already like you. You kind of got the job. But they're like, hold on, let's see if this person is mentioned online, anywhere. And they're like, wait a second, these posts are crazy. We can't hire them. Even though they nailed the interview. Yeah, the. The initial first weeding out of the person. I understand that then. [00:04:50] Speaker A: But that wasn't public that. That Yahoo group, was it? Anyone could see it. [00:04:56] Speaker C: I think so, yeah. [00:04:57] Speaker B: Have you ever tried searching your name or anything? Like stuff you've done like 20 years ago comes up, stuff you forget about old clips of like old bands and stuff. [00:05:05] Speaker C: I did Nick Cartwright's you dad Podcast. And it. The amount of people that said, yeah, I was. I saw that. I saw you come up on this podcast. And the name of the podcast is Fuck you, dad. So that's great. Great. In it, [00:05:25] Speaker A: did you talk about your old boy on the podcast? [00:05:27] Speaker C: A little bit. They didn't really stick to the. You know, I thought that was the whole topic. So I came in with a lot of dad stories and he was just rambling about motorcycle racing more than anything [00:05:38] Speaker B: when you showed up today, Mark. And I was listening to that podcast. I was listening to Stuff youf Should Know. And they were doing a podcast about stand up comedy. They were talking about the origins of it, etc, and how it came up through vaudeville. And I guess the first guy credited with actually getting up there and just doing like pure stand up as we know it now, the name of his show was. Whatever his name was. Talks About His Father. That was the name of the show because people are like, that's juicy. I'll go watch that. [00:06:07] Speaker A: It was called Talks about His Father. [00:06:09] Speaker B: Yeah, like, you know, Ben Johnson talked about. Wait, is that the Bears coach Ben Johnson? [00:06:13] Speaker A: Yes. [00:06:13] Speaker B: All right, man. [00:06:14] Speaker C: So he was a Canadian sprinter. [00:06:17] Speaker B: Well, he's also comedian. [00:06:19] Speaker A: Same guy. Yeah. I never think about him when I [00:06:21] Speaker C: hear was him versus Carl Lewis, wasn't it? So, like, as an American, you would have been hate Ben Johnson. Carl Lewis. [00:06:29] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I think they did go against each other. All right. When I type in Mark Geary into [00:06:35] Speaker C: Google, you get the Irish folk singer. [00:06:37] Speaker A: Yeah. You get Mark Erie. Glen Hansard. [00:06:40] Speaker C: Yep. [00:06:41] Speaker A: Mark Erie, musician Mark Erie, drummer Mark Erie, music. Mark Geary, Dangerous Toys. [00:06:47] Speaker B: Oh, maybe that's why he's not having parties. We can't go to his house. [00:06:53] Speaker A: No, that's the name of the band the guy was in. I didn't know this guy. [00:06:55] Speaker C: I thought we were keeping my sodding name out of this. [00:06:58] Speaker B: Oh, right. [00:07:00] Speaker A: I'm just seeing if anything comes up. [00:07:01] Speaker B: What happens when you search my name? [00:07:02] Speaker A: You scrub your name. These job interviews. [00:07:04] Speaker B: Try mine. Put in the Seaman. [00:07:06] Speaker A: Seaman. Now tell us about the job interview. We can't. [00:07:13] Speaker C: No, I can't. [00:07:16] Speaker A: Was it a good one? [00:07:16] Speaker C: Because I won't be following up because you just blurted my name all over the Internet. [00:07:21] Speaker B: Let's start over. Sorry, Willy Ray. Saw this in post. [00:07:26] Speaker A: Christian McCann. Somebody else. Not you. [00:07:29] Speaker B: Arrest record. [00:07:31] Speaker C: Were you the one that put everyone's real name in the reader listing? [00:07:36] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:36] Speaker C: You were, were you? [00:07:38] Speaker A: I think so. No, for. For my show, I think. [00:07:42] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:07:43] Speaker A: For the let's Bum Out Chick show? [00:07:45] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. So you Put everyone's real name. [00:07:47] Speaker A: Yeah, I think I did. Yeah. I'm not gonna say him now. People are very sensitive about that, which is ridiculous to me. I don't feel like you can make up a name. You have to have your name. [00:08:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:08:02] Speaker A: Unless you're, like, hiding from the Nazis, it's the only reason. Nothing. Coming up. C. Man, that's too bad. Nothing about you. McC, right? [00:08:11] Speaker B: Yep. [00:08:12] Speaker A: Two ends. [00:08:12] Speaker B: Two ends. Yep. [00:08:14] Speaker A: Christian McCann, left field. [00:08:16] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. There is a baseball player out there. [00:08:19] Speaker A: Left field, New York City. No, I don't think it's a baseball player. [00:08:24] Speaker B: There's a. There's a baseball player with the last name of Ken, though, I think. Oh, yeah, Yeah, I know his first name. Assuming it's Christian. But anyway, anyhow, yeah, we can cut this whole thing out. [00:08:36] Speaker A: Well, he brought it up. [00:08:37] Speaker B: I'm gonna. I'm gonna clap when we start from here. [00:08:43] Speaker C: What. What's the clap for? [00:08:45] Speaker B: To. To. So that you. To get that look on your face. [00:08:50] Speaker A: So last week, I want to know what you guys thought of how I did at the open mic. [00:08:58] Speaker B: I do have some notes. [00:08:59] Speaker A: Yeah, give them to me. [00:09:00] Speaker C: You. [00:09:00] Speaker B: You ran the light. First of all, you're only supposed to do three minutes. Three minutes, not 34 minutes. Yeah. By the time. Didn't it make you feel weird when everybody was. Had left by the time you were done? [00:09:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I did. That was, you know. Yeah, that was a clue that it was time. [00:09:16] Speaker B: He kept screaming, I'm doing my half an hour. I'm doing my half an hour. [00:09:19] Speaker A: I'm doing my act. Did you guys come here to see me do my act? [00:09:23] Speaker C: I just had some youth lean over to me and say, who's Lou Baga? [00:09:27] Speaker A: Yeah. They didn't see. They don't get a lot of my references. [00:09:30] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:09:31] Speaker A: Because they're rather old. [00:09:32] Speaker B: You kept knocking the stool over, too. Yeah, it's been a while. [00:09:37] Speaker A: It's been a while. I have a setup in my basement. [00:09:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:41] Speaker A: But there's no stool with the mic and the thing. So I'll practice down there. But no stool. So it was getting in the way, but, yeah, I thought it went pretty well. But I'll be back this week. [00:09:52] Speaker B: You should record it. [00:09:54] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:54] Speaker B: Are you gonna do it again tonight? [00:09:55] Speaker A: Record it and then listen back to it. You know, a lot of guys will film it, and it's always amazing to me when they set up the tripod for the three minutes of. [00:10:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:05] Speaker A: Of. Of comedy. And then they go up there and they eat it for three minutes, and then they go and they Take down the tripod and everything. Yeah. [00:10:13] Speaker C: I don't think I ever once recorded me on stage. [00:10:16] Speaker A: No. [00:10:17] Speaker C: Not once. [00:10:20] Speaker A: Not even on minidisc. No, no, I used to do that. [00:10:23] Speaker C: I mean I would have been on there because I was recording there. [00:10:25] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:10:26] Speaker B: Gosh. [00:10:26] Speaker C: I was recording open mics. [00:10:29] Speaker A: Well, you're what? Well, you, you would record it to, you know, workshop it, go back and listen to it. [00:10:34] Speaker C: No, no, no, I was recording the whole open mic. [00:10:35] Speaker A: Oh, you were recording? [00:10:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:10:37] Speaker A: You still have all those tapes? [00:10:38] Speaker C: Nah. [00:10:39] Speaker A: What mini disc? [00:10:41] Speaker C: I might have it, you know, I might have a DVD or two. Oh, not a dvd. I mean a cd. [00:10:48] Speaker A: I thank God, you know, really, that I came up during the pre video era. You know, I mean there are videos but like it's not like with phones where it would haunt you though, Right. [00:11:03] Speaker C: I've got a video of you at North Bar, North Park. [00:11:06] Speaker A: Oh, really? [00:11:07] Speaker B: Let's review that next week. [00:11:08] Speaker C: C.J. sullivan Spectacular. [00:11:11] Speaker A: Ooh, that wasn't that long ago. No, let's keep that hidden. Let's keep that in. [00:11:16] Speaker C: McGann was so bummed that he ate it. [00:11:19] Speaker A: He ate it? Yeah. Vanna went up too. Didn't he? [00:11:22] Speaker C: He eat it? Yeah, it was all. And then I was only really there to record Petravka because people were asking me, like, record Petravka, please. [00:11:30] Speaker A: He delivered, I think pretty much. He was great. [00:11:34] Speaker C: He was great that one time he went up and just pretended to be Italian. [00:11:38] Speaker A: Oh yeah. Agreemo is a Grimo bit. I don't know a Grimo. Brilliant. It's brilliant. Brilliant comedian. Another brilliant comedian from the scene, Hannibal Buress we'll be looking at today. We'll be talking about him and his work. [00:11:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:57] Speaker A: My name's Bill and. And this show is called Funny you should ask. No, it's called Isn't that special. [00:12:06] Speaker B: Yep. [00:12:06] Speaker A: And you know it's our show. When you see the sloth. [00:12:09] Speaker B: Yeah, that's our mascot. [00:12:11] Speaker A: Your feed. [00:12:12] Speaker C: What's the sloth feed? Back on the chat group. Has anyone fed back anything about the sloth? [00:12:18] Speaker A: Nobody really says anything about the sloth. I'm surprised. [00:12:21] Speaker C: Are people enchanted or turned off by the little. The little blurb I have to write for each episode? [00:12:27] Speaker A: I rather like that. And I imagine other people do as well. [00:12:30] Speaker C: That's the bane of my life, the little blurb. Yeah. Cuz I have to skip through the first. [00:12:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:12:35] Speaker C: Bit of the thing. Like what did we talk about? [00:12:38] Speaker A: Maybe you should jot things down while we're here. The highlights. [00:12:41] Speaker B: Yeah, Just make stuff up. [00:12:44] Speaker A: You got the pad over there, if [00:12:46] Speaker B: you make things up, people be waiting to hear about it, and they'll listen to the entire episode, waiting. When. When do they eventually talk about Star Wars? [00:12:54] Speaker A: H. Yeah, that's a good idea. That's a good idea. Well, let's do gifts, huh? We got gifts. [00:13:00] Speaker C: Gifts here. [00:13:00] Speaker A: Get the gifts out. [00:13:01] Speaker C: You go first. [00:13:02] Speaker A: All right, here we go. I got you this brand new button down I got at the thrift. It's. [00:13:11] Speaker B: That's nice. [00:13:12] Speaker A: It's a high end button down. J. Crew for you. Yeah, there you go. [00:13:15] Speaker C: Oh, large. That's what size I am. Yep. [00:13:18] Speaker B: And, well, you are a large. [00:13:20] Speaker A: We know you're a large. We've discussed that. Christian, I got you this. The last of the blue Tootsie Pops. [00:13:26] Speaker B: Oh, no way. [00:13:27] Speaker A: Somebody's been in that. That box of Tootsie Pops. [00:13:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:30] Speaker A: And it's taken all the blues. [00:13:32] Speaker B: Really? [00:13:32] Speaker A: Except for this one. [00:13:33] Speaker B: Somebody likes the blues. [00:13:34] Speaker A: Who is it? [00:13:36] Speaker B: I don't know, but I have an idea. [00:13:37] Speaker A: You're lying. [00:13:37] Speaker B: Let's set this up somewhere with a camera on it, see who takes it. We can find out who took all the. [00:13:42] Speaker C: And then they'll be singing the blues when you catch them. [00:13:45] Speaker A: Yeah, Johnny Puns over here. I want to know who's taking all the blues. They're all gone. [00:13:49] Speaker B: Is blue your favorite? [00:13:52] Speaker A: Yes, the best. I like, actually, the. The raspberry. [00:13:56] Speaker B: What is this? What is blue? What flavor is raspberry? [00:13:59] Speaker A: I think. [00:13:59] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:14:00] Speaker B: Are there blue raspberries in. [00:14:03] Speaker A: In the world now? [00:14:04] Speaker B: Right. [00:14:04] Speaker A: They don't exist. Kind of like the blue rose doesn't exist in nature. Neither does the blue. [00:14:10] Speaker B: These are grapes. [00:14:12] Speaker A: Grape. That's right. [00:14:12] Speaker B: Grape. [00:14:13] Speaker A: Why wouldn't they make it purple? Why would they make it blue? [00:14:15] Speaker B: I don't really think Tootsie Pop thought it through. [00:14:20] Speaker A: We got Halloween coming up. [00:14:22] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:22] Speaker A: What's going on here? [00:14:23] Speaker B: You wear a costume. [00:14:25] Speaker C: Oh, gifting. [00:14:26] Speaker A: Okay. He's digging. He's digging in the bag. [00:14:33] Speaker C: So for you, I've got a Gene Hackman double feature. Yeah, Connection two. Not the. [00:14:41] Speaker A: Oh, I never saw a French Connection. [00:14:43] Speaker C: Yeah, I thought. I thought that was. [00:14:44] Speaker A: I didn't know there was one best gene signed up for that. [00:14:47] Speaker C: Yeah, Best Buy, 1697. And Superman the movie. [00:14:52] Speaker A: Whoa. Wow. [00:14:54] Speaker C: Gene Hackman double feature. [00:14:55] Speaker A: Is Lex Luthor in this? And Marlon Brando. You forget he's in this. [00:14:59] Speaker C: Yeah, you forget about Brando being in that with Susanna York, English Rose as his wife. [00:15:06] Speaker A: And Valerie Perrine is in this, I [00:15:07] Speaker C: believe my arts teacher, when I was in third and fourth form, looked like Valerie Perrine. [00:15:19] Speaker A: Who did? Your teacher. [00:15:20] Speaker C: My arts teacher. That. [00:15:23] Speaker A: That must have raised the flag a little bit for you. Wasn't that what you said last week? [00:15:28] Speaker B: Baby's arm holding an apple? [00:15:30] Speaker A: It was like a baby's arm holding an apple. [00:15:32] Speaker C: Actually, it was quite tragic. She was a victim of domestic violence. Oh, so I've ruined that. [00:15:38] Speaker A: You really brought the room down. [00:15:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:39] Speaker C: Yep. [00:15:41] Speaker A: Hold on. This French Connection in Still in the wrapper. Ouch. [00:15:49] Speaker C: Yes. Just made it worse. [00:15:53] Speaker A: I mean, this is amazing. It's still in the wrapper with the tag on. [00:15:58] Speaker B: Nobody watched it. [00:16:00] Speaker A: Amazing. Well, I'll throw that on. [00:16:02] Speaker B: Do you know who the French Connection was in hockey, Mark, you being a hockey fan? [00:16:06] Speaker A: Theo Fleury. Lafleur. Canadian ski lafleur. [00:16:12] Speaker B: It was. It was Renee Gilbert. Gilbert Perrault, Rene Robert and I don't think it was Gila Fleur. [00:16:24] Speaker A: He was the. He was the rocket. [00:16:26] Speaker B: Rick Martin. Rick Martin was the third. [00:16:27] Speaker A: He was the French rocket. [00:16:30] Speaker B: That was Maurice Rocket. [00:16:32] Speaker C: Maurice Richard. [00:16:33] Speaker A: Yeah, Maurice Richard. He was the French rocket. [00:16:36] Speaker C: I don't know. What about the pink rocket? [00:16:40] Speaker A: You know what that is? That's when a dog gets excited and that pink thing comes out. Oh, imagine if that's what we. [00:16:48] Speaker C: Labrador lipstick is what that is. [00:16:50] Speaker A: Yeah, that's a good one. I didn't heard that one. If that's how we also got aroused. If we had a pink thing come out. [00:16:57] Speaker C: I wonder if women get put off by the fact that lipstick looks like a dog's dick. They're like, oh, Jesus. [00:17:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know. We never have any women in here to ask. [00:17:07] Speaker B: Call it a woman. British women. Maybe not. Because in British colloquialism, the dog's knob is a good thing. [00:17:16] Speaker A: The dog's knob. [00:17:17] Speaker C: Dog's knob is a good thing. [00:17:19] Speaker A: Meaning it's like the bee's knees or the dog's bollocks. [00:17:21] Speaker B: Right. Bell end. [00:17:24] Speaker A: Bad bell and bad. [00:17:26] Speaker C: Well, bella. Just a technical term anyway. [00:17:31] Speaker A: Oh, I want that. [00:17:33] Speaker C: I often give copies of this book to people. This is my favorite ever book. Steinbeck's Tortilla Flat. It's kind of his warm up for Cannery Row. If you've ever read Cannery Row, this is a novella, but it's so instructive. It's basically the tale of the Chicago comedy scene. It's about a bunch of people who can barely wipe their own ass and a doomed to fail. And I love this book. I'll read it every couple of years. I'll pull it out and read it to remind me I'm Best. But it's. It's instructive. Whoops. [00:18:12] Speaker B: Do you have multiple copies or something? [00:18:14] Speaker C: Every time I see it in a thrift store, I buy. [00:18:16] Speaker B: Oh, you got another one, you know, like this one signed to somebody, you know, what's the. [00:18:21] Speaker C: The Mel Gibson film where he always has to have a copy of Catcher in the Rye on him. I'm the same with Tortilla Flat. [00:18:29] Speaker A: That's a Mel Gibson film. That's. That's the story of Mark David Chapman, the man who murdered John Lenny. [00:18:38] Speaker C: Do you need the conspiracy theory? What does it say? [00:18:43] Speaker B: It says Jerrel Getzell. [00:18:49] Speaker C: I tried to give that book to Jarell. [00:18:51] Speaker B: I already know. Yeah, I just put it back together as soon as I read it. [00:18:54] Speaker C: And I just came in the next day and it was just sat there on the podium. I was like, oh, well, me then. [00:19:02] Speaker B: Does he have Zel want it? [00:19:03] Speaker C: He still does not have Zel Jell's. [00:19:07] Speaker A: No Zel. [00:19:07] Speaker B: No Zel. [00:19:09] Speaker C: That's what you call him. No. Noel. J.L. [00:19:13] Speaker B: this is great. I've been getting a lot of reading material from you lately, Mark, which is great, cuz I've been trying to read more lately and I've been successful, so I keep getting more. [00:19:21] Speaker C: Tortilla Flat is a page turner. [00:19:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Good. [00:19:24] Speaker A: I wonder if I. I don't think I've read it. [00:19:28] Speaker C: Like I say, it's like. You can tell when he wrote it. It's like this is. This is him warming up for Cannery Row. [00:19:35] Speaker A: Cannery Row? That's the one about the Dust Bowl. [00:19:37] Speaker C: Yeah, well, they're all about the Dust Ball with Steinbeck, but Cannery Rose, about the Monterey fishing town or whatever. Jeffing loved Tortilla Flat. [00:19:49] Speaker A: Okay, well, give it to me. You're not gonna read it? [00:19:52] Speaker B: I'm gonna read it. You don't know that. You don't know me. [00:19:56] Speaker C: Read it and tell me it does not remind you of half of the idiots you've met in the Chicago Comedy. [00:20:04] Speaker B: I'll read it and I'll write notes in the margins and I'll highlight areas and then I'll give it to Bill who can do the same. And then it can come full circle and then you'll be able to. Mark, you'll be able to read the book again. But it'll have a twist left. Notes, right. [00:20:19] Speaker C: I bloody hate that. Actually, when you buy a book from a thrift store, like, oh, I got a good book, and then you open it, just underlining stuff everywhere. [00:20:28] Speaker B: Have you ever gone back and reread something You've underlined. Never. Never. Right. [00:20:33] Speaker A: No one ever has. [00:20:34] Speaker B: I think the point of it is to try to emphasize it in your mind in the moment. You know, the act of underlining it. You're trying to, like. It's almost like putting it in bold in your memory. [00:20:44] Speaker A: You're. You're not underlining it for later. [00:20:48] Speaker B: Exactly. And it's in that moment. You have to remember it. And if you don't, it's gone. Great. [00:20:57] Speaker A: Well, get back next week with a book report on that. [00:21:00] Speaker B: I don't have gifts. The Jim Shoe Store restaurant was closed. [00:21:04] Speaker A: Still no Jim Shoe. [00:21:05] Speaker B: Yeah, they were closed for renovations. They said they will be open today is the 20th. They said they're going to be open on the 22nd, so expect gym shoe sandwiches. [00:21:16] Speaker A: What's on that again? A gym shoe. [00:21:18] Speaker B: It's. It could be anything, really. I don't know how I'm going to do this for you, Bill, with the vegetarianism. Although. Are you eating meat now still? [00:21:25] Speaker A: So I wanted to let you guys know I. Late in the summer, I started eating meat, and I told you all about that. And I've been eating meat. I'm no longer eating meat. I've had some health issues. [00:21:37] Speaker B: Okay. [00:21:37] Speaker A: And I've had to stop eating meat again. [00:21:39] Speaker B: I'm sure they do some sort of vegetarian version of it. The. The people that work there are very kind and they're very. They'll. [00:21:46] Speaker C: They'll do anything if you get all stopped up. Couldn't pass a stool for a few days? [00:21:51] Speaker A: No. [00:21:51] Speaker B: What happened? High cholesterol? [00:21:54] Speaker A: No. [00:21:55] Speaker B: Why won't you say? I can tell by the shifting eyes. Oh, I see. You don't like to divulge personal information on this podcast. [00:22:05] Speaker A: I don't. I really don't. No. I've got. I've got lock knee. [00:22:09] Speaker B: What is that? Is that when your knee locks? [00:22:11] Speaker A: Yeah, my knee locks up kind of like marks, but it's a result of poor diet. It settles in my knee like a gout. [00:22:17] Speaker B: Is that like when I got gout? Yeah, Right. [00:22:20] Speaker A: Maybe it is gout. [00:22:20] Speaker B: It's the worst. Don't get gout. It's terrible. [00:22:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:25] Speaker A: You've had it. [00:22:26] Speaker B: Yes, I had it for. For a period of time. I heard it a year or two ago. Yeah. [00:22:31] Speaker C: What is it like? [00:22:32] Speaker B: It's like somebody in my case. Well, my foot blew up like a football. It was like a Nerf ball. You couldn't even put a shoe on. And it was incredibly painful. It felt like somebody had a little saw and they were just constantly sawing the joint where your big toe is. And it's relentless. Nope, after a little while it doesn't. You can't. You just stop reacting to it because you just have to lay there and accept the fact that this pain is going to be there and it's never going to go away. So in the beginning, you. You're writhing, you're expressing with your face and your voice that you're in pain. Just. Oh my God. But finally. And it lasts for weeks. [00:23:11] Speaker A: What? [00:23:12] Speaker B: Yeah. You're like. I would be holed up, I wouldn't make it to work for a week when I would get these bouts of it and. Yeah, and you can't do anything about it. Well, eventually I found out what you could do. [00:23:22] Speaker A: What if you took morphine? [00:23:24] Speaker B: Well, so I went and got. They gave me steroids for it once and that worked. But they make you insane. They make you a. They turn you into a crazy person. Yeah. I don't know what it is, but I could tell, like this change in my personality. And all of a sudden I was not myself. And I was talking to my sister about it actually, and she said, yeah, my friend's mom was taking the same steroids and she went permanently insane. What? Irreparable. She can't come back because the doctor didn't tell her. And I said, neither do these doctors. They didn't tell me anything about this. What am I doing to my brain? So then I wouldn't take the steroids because I don't want to then mess my brain up too. So I would just deal with the pain. And it was just unbearable pain. I did get around my apartment in a wheelchair. I borrowed downstairs. Yeah. [00:24:06] Speaker A: Have you ever had the gout? [00:24:08] Speaker C: No. It's very medieval. I think you have to drink a lot of mead and eat raw. [00:24:14] Speaker A: Yeah, let's whip right on the gout bowl. That's the thing. [00:24:17] Speaker B: I didn't really have that bad of a diet, but I was just. I was doing too many pre prepared foods, like frozen foods and you know, stuff like that. It was the wintertime, so I'd stocked up from Aldi. All these, like, I was like, oh, this doesn't seem so bad. This is just like chicken. This is that Salisbury steak. But it's all, it's all just, you know, the garbage. It's garbage chemicals, it's garbage this. And I just, I don't know, I guess my body just can't do it with that. That's why I eat a salad for breakfast every day. [00:24:45] Speaker A: But like he said, it's also gotta be some booze. [00:24:48] Speaker B: Well, that's the thing, too. I had quit drinking. Remember that whole thing, time. I. I didn't drink for a period of time. And this set in, like, three or four months into. I hadn't had a drop of alcohol. [00:24:58] Speaker A: That's odd. [00:24:58] Speaker B: In three or four months. I wasn't eating any red meat. I went. The doctors would not believe me. I went in. I was talking to my doctor. I would talk to the doctor at the. The emergency care, you know, units, whatever. And they'd be like, well, you must have had a steak last night. And, like, maybe some beer, like some heavy beer. I said, I haven't had alcohol in five months. I haven't had red meat in this long. Nothing. And they'd be like, yeah, right. I haven't. You know, like, this is terrible. I would do anything to get rid of this. I'm not gonna go eat a steak. [00:25:27] Speaker A: So there must be a genetic component. [00:25:28] Speaker B: I don't know what it was. It came on and then I got some medicine for it. The steroids would get rid of it. So, like, I would get the steroid pack. And, like, in a pinch, if it really came on strong, I would take just a little bit at a time, you know, try to, like, walk the line between the pain and the being insane, you know. And then. And then they gave me some medicine, and it would, like. It would work a little bit. And then one day it was just gone. It's just gone and it hasn't come back since. [00:25:55] Speaker A: Damn scary. [00:25:56] Speaker B: Just like, it came on, it left. [00:25:58] Speaker A: When was this? [00:26:01] Speaker B: It had gone away around the time I went to Paris and all those places last year. Two years ago. That was already two Junes ago. Can you believe that? [00:26:09] Speaker A: We've been doing the show for two years. No way. [00:26:12] Speaker B: Yep. [00:26:13] Speaker A: We've been doing the show for two years. [00:26:14] Speaker C: Not full two calendar years. We started at the start of a [00:26:17] Speaker B: year, and it had come on about a year and a half before that. So I had it for about a year and a half. [00:26:23] Speaker A: You had the gout for a year and a half? [00:26:25] Speaker B: Yeah, on and off. [00:26:25] Speaker A: It's not supposed to last that long, right? [00:26:27] Speaker B: Well, it would come on for a week, it would go away, and then I'd be okay for a little bit. And then I could always tell, like, I'd be walking down the hallway here, and I'd feel a little like. It felt like somebody, like, to put a syringe into my foot, and I'd be like, oh, it's coming back. Back. And then, sure, Enough. By the time I got home. Here's the football, you know, and when [00:26:43] Speaker A: he would call in to work, would you believe him or do you think he's. [00:26:46] Speaker B: I didn't know what was going on at first, so I called in. I. I thought I'd injure myself at work because I was bartending a lot back then, and so I was actually on. I remember I used. Like, my first, like, three days were, like, sick leave or something like that. Like, what are they. What do they call it? The insurance? The. I don't know, when you. When you can't work. Sure. Yeah. So I'd use those. And then. Then when I. And I had no clue what was going on for so long. And. Yeah, eventually I would just have to, like, if it came on it, like, oh, no. And it'd always be, like, right before a busy weekend where I was about to make a lot of money, I'd have to find a cover for myself. [00:27:20] Speaker A: That's terrible. [00:27:22] Speaker B: Yeah, actually. But, you know, silver lining, that is kind of what got me out of bartending. That's when I stopped. That was the beginning of the end. Even though with the gap, I still have to do it now, when it's. When it's necessary, when I'm in a. You know, I have to cover somebody, but. [00:27:34] Speaker A: Well, I think we like to laugh about the gout. Like, I like to say you have the gout and everything, but it's no laughing matter. The guy. [00:27:40] Speaker B: No, it sucked. It was really bad. Like, it just completely. It puts you out of life, like, altogether. And sometimes I have it in the. Like this. I missed the whole summer. You know how much I like to get to the lake, riding a bike around. Forget it. I was on my back. [00:27:55] Speaker C: Karen Harrell had it, and he's skinny as a rail. [00:27:59] Speaker B: I've never. I used to date a woman in Buffalo whose dad would get it, but I've never seen anybody the way that I had it. I don't know what it was. It was. It was an extreme version of it. And it was just. I. No matter what I did, no matter what medicine they get, it just wouldn't go away. [00:28:14] Speaker A: Maybe it was plantar fascia. [00:28:16] Speaker B: What is that? [00:28:17] Speaker A: Plantar fasciitis. [00:28:18] Speaker C: So you have to be a major league pitcher to get that? [00:28:21] Speaker A: No, no, no. It's like a gout siege. Had it. [00:28:25] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:28:26] Speaker A: Plantar fascia. I don't know about the gout. Well, that's. That's a sobering tale we just heard from the seaman. [00:28:33] Speaker B: Well, don't eat. Don't eat garbage food. Well, that's my point. [00:28:37] Speaker A: I don't have that kind of gout. But my diet became very poor for two months, and. Well, it's not even that poor. But I started eating meat again, and my body, I think, is telling me no. No. [00:28:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:50] Speaker A: So no more no gym shoe for me. [00:28:53] Speaker B: Yeah, well, no, they can do a gym shoe. Maybe they can just, like, wrap up some lettuce leaves or something like that. I'm not making a joke, you know. Yeah, that sort of stuff's pretty good, too. All right. [00:29:04] Speaker A: And you're feeling well over here? How's your knee? Better from last week. Still. [00:29:08] Speaker C: Still up and down. A very annoying. [00:29:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Maybe it's gout. Does gout only settle in the foot? [00:29:17] Speaker B: No, it can be. I think, like, it can be your. Your wrist. Oh, your thumb. It's in the joints. [00:29:23] Speaker A: In the joints. Well, they say meat is the cause of a lot of our problems. You know, I'm not going to go on. I'm not going to proselytize. Prosthetize, proselytize about the. The ills of meat for the aging. [00:29:40] Speaker B: There's plenty of processes for you. [00:29:42] Speaker C: Prostate. [00:29:43] Speaker B: I love it. [00:29:44] Speaker A: Prostate. [00:29:44] Speaker B: Yeah, it's so good. I saw an advertisement yesterday for an Italian beef burger this place makes kind of like north and Clyborne. It's a. It's a beef patty with Italian beef on top. [00:29:55] Speaker C: Oh. [00:29:56] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that's. [00:29:58] Speaker A: And you wonder why you have the gout over here. [00:30:00] Speaker B: I wasn't eating red meat. And even now, I'll eat a burger like that. Nothing happens. There's no explaining it. No, I. Yeah, I don't. I still do it. [00:30:08] Speaker A: Don't tempt the face. [00:30:09] Speaker B: I do it all the time. [00:30:13] Speaker A: All right, well, what else is going on? [00:30:17] Speaker B: Yeah, what else is going on? [00:30:19] Speaker A: Nothing. [00:30:20] Speaker C: Got a no agenda. [00:30:21] Speaker A: No agenda today. [00:30:23] Speaker B: I'm sucking it up in my fantasy hockey league again this year. I'm the commissioner of my league. I've been doing it for 15 years, and every year, I just. I just start the. The year off losing the first six, seven weeks. I'm. [00:30:36] Speaker A: I. [00:30:36] Speaker B: It's inexplainable how bad I am at this. I should be. I know everything about hockey. I've been watching hockey, you know, all [00:30:43] Speaker A: the players on all the teams. [00:30:45] Speaker B: Not. Not that. To that extent. I'm not, like, you know, watching it every single day. But I. I know the stats. I know what's going on. You know, I listen to a hockey podcast, you know, so that's the extent of. I know enough I know everything I should know in order to have a really good team every single year. You know what? As a matter of fact, I have thought about getting a hold of NHL goalies before the season started. Showing them my record of every year. Whoever I draft as my goalie, I'll draft the best goalie. Like somebody that's been had like 10 Vesna trophy years in a row, get them as my goalie, and that will be the year. [00:31:19] Speaker A: They. [00:31:20] Speaker B: They'll tank. They'll just be terrible that season. And so I've thought about getting ahold of NHL goalies and telling them, listen, if you don't give me $10,000, I'm gonna draft you onto my fantasy hockey league. You're gonna have a terrible season. They're making millions, so for a mere ten grand, you can save your career. [00:31:41] Speaker C: Yeah, see, I'm the opposite of you. I don't put any effort into fantasy leagues and excel. [00:31:48] Speaker B: Yeah, you don't participate people like that. [00:31:50] Speaker C: Not anymore. No, because I've been banned from them all. [00:31:53] Speaker A: You're a rabble rouser. [00:31:55] Speaker C: I almost won a basketball league just picking, just drafting white players. [00:32:02] Speaker A: That was my league, wasn't it? [00:32:04] Speaker C: The whites. Yeah. I almost won that. [00:32:06] Speaker B: Jeff Alberto did this one white in his. His fantasy football. He only picked white football players. And he won the year. He won the season. [00:32:14] Speaker A: What does that tell you? Whites are superior athletes. [00:32:16] Speaker C: If. Well, I had to. I had a couple of edge cases. So. Manu Ginobly is it? I had him. I was like. Well, anyway, it turned out he was held together with duct tape and blue tack anyway. And he really was the one that lost me. [00:32:37] Speaker A: That was his swan song, I think. [00:32:39] Speaker C: And then I had a. I had a base, a baseball team filled only with players names beginning M. Like the Christian. Not the Christian name, just. What's it. [00:32:52] Speaker B: Other name, the surname. [00:32:54] Speaker C: Surname. Yeah. Because statistically I could find enough. So I just drafted all people with [00:32:59] Speaker A: M for the last name. [00:33:01] Speaker C: Yeah. And that one didn't do so well. But I honestly. That fantasy baseball. God, you got to put a lot of work. [00:33:09] Speaker A: So many games. It's too much. [00:33:11] Speaker C: Too many games. [00:33:11] Speaker B: Yeah, I tried that this season. [00:33:13] Speaker C: Tons of. And then I would have won the. The American football one. And we've been through this 28 years ago. [00:33:22] Speaker B: 30 years ago. [00:33:23] Speaker C: Yeah. When it was the year Tom Brady seceded. Drew bred. So. And the Patriots just got hot as from that moment on. And I had all these Patriot players and I should have won that league, but I was kicked out of it. [00:33:39] Speaker A: Yeah, well, you're untoward activities and that, but you know who loves to hear about fantasy sports? Women. You get a woman on a date and start to tell her about your fantasy team. They love that. [00:33:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Especially when. When they've already gone to bed and you're texting them. Six paragraph texts in a row about what's going on in your fantasy league. [00:34:01] Speaker A: How about real life hockey? Have you been to any games? Blackhawks. Are we going to go to another game this year? [00:34:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I would like to. [00:34:13] Speaker C: Yeah. Are you gonna go to the game and then leave halfway through? Leaving? [00:34:17] Speaker B: I did not leave halfway through. [00:34:19] Speaker C: Brian Lero, who was it we were with? [00:34:21] Speaker B: I did not leave halfway through. I left at the appropriate time when the game was over. I just didn't stay for an extra half hour. [00:34:27] Speaker A: You left us in the dust. [00:34:28] Speaker B: No, I didn't. [00:34:29] Speaker C: I think the Blackhawks have already been statistically eliminated from the players. [00:34:34] Speaker B: I went to a preseason game. [00:34:35] Speaker A: You went to preseason. [00:34:36] Speaker B: I went to a preseason game, yeah. [00:34:37] Speaker A: You pay top dollar or did you set up in the Blaze? [00:34:39] Speaker B: I didn't pay anything. Mr. Pat Bulldux, love interest. Had some free tickets. [00:34:46] Speaker A: Now, which. Which bulldog is Pat? Is he the. [00:34:50] Speaker B: Pat's the one that does more standup. [00:34:51] Speaker A: Okay. [00:34:52] Speaker B: His brother's. Andy is the one that does more improv. [00:34:55] Speaker A: Okay. And where can we see the Bullduck boys these. These days? [00:34:59] Speaker B: I don't know. Pat's been all over the place every weekend. When I text him, he's out in Colorado Springs. [00:35:03] Speaker A: He's a road warrior. [00:35:04] Speaker B: Yeah, he's been. He's been hitting the road. [00:35:06] Speaker A: Yeah. And Mr. Andrew Bulldock. [00:35:09] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't know. I think Andy was also just on the road and I think just got back here. Not too. He was at the game, as a matter of fact, although that was a month ago. [00:35:18] Speaker A: Well, I'm thinking about going on the road. After last week's open mic, I think I'm ready to start hitting. [00:35:25] Speaker C: Yeah, Bananas. [00:35:28] Speaker A: Yeah, like bananas. And then Penguins up in Cedar Rapids. Be up there this week. And then somewhere in Columbia, Missouri next weekend. [00:35:37] Speaker C: Have you heard of this website, Joke Box in Peoria? [00:35:40] Speaker B: Oh, that's a good one. Have you heard of Gig Salad? [00:35:45] Speaker C: Yeah, they're all putting shit on there now. [00:35:47] Speaker B: It's a. It's a website that basically connects people that are looking for creative type to make love to the creative types. [00:35:57] Speaker A: To make love? [00:35:58] Speaker B: No, to hire for gigs. [00:35:59] Speaker A: Oh. [00:35:59] Speaker B: Or gigs. [00:36:01] Speaker A: You should be on there. [00:36:02] Speaker B: I just created an account this week and I've been. I've been at it and I've getting. I'm getting all these hits from people in Indiana and Michigan that really. [00:36:11] Speaker A: They want. [00:36:11] Speaker B: You are putting on events. Yeah, they want a dueling pianos act. So it looks like we'll be hitting the road a whole bunch. Yeah. And I. [00:36:18] Speaker C: It's getting real cold in it. [00:36:20] Speaker A: And they. [00:36:20] Speaker B: They've got crazy budgets, too. [00:36:22] Speaker A: That's why I put the top on. [00:36:23] Speaker B: I'm. I'm used to getting paid like a certain amount. These bud. Like, oh, look at. [00:36:27] Speaker A: You're gonna get more. [00:36:28] Speaker B: Oh, their budgets are like 10 times what I normally get paid. [00:36:30] Speaker A: Gig salad. [00:36:31] Speaker B: Yeah. I haven't booked one of them yet, so. [00:36:34] Speaker A: But they want you. [00:36:35] Speaker B: I have a theory. I think I have a theory that. Because I have the free version and there's also a paid version where they say, you know, if you get the paid version, you get a lot more. And when I got the free version, right away it was like, 1, 2, 3, 4, all these messages. And I'm thinking, sounds like I'm going to reply to all these. And they're going to say, oh, thanks, we already found somebody. And then I'm going to say, well, shoot, I mean, that was almost so successful. I should get the paid version. And then I'm not going to get anything. You're not going to get anything. Right. [00:37:03] Speaker A: You know what it reminds me of? Not reminds me, because I wouldn't know, but, you know, like, if you're on an adult website or something and a thing will pop up and say, do you want to meet hot women? Grandmas in your. In your neighborhood. They're wanting you. They want you to reach out right now. [00:37:20] Speaker B: Yeah. And then you go outside in your front porch and you start screaming. [00:37:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:37:24] Speaker B: And nobody opens their door. [00:37:25] Speaker A: But that's what it sounds like, this gig salad. Like grandmas that want to meet. [00:37:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:37:30] Speaker A: Meet you. [00:37:31] Speaker B: Right. Yeah. [00:37:32] Speaker A: Neighborhood. [00:37:33] Speaker B: I don't think it's cold in here. Nobody's out there just handing out thousands of dollars per gig out of nowhere. And I didn't already, like. Yeah, like. Yeah, that's the thing too. The. The account that I had wasn't even set up really yet. It just had like, the only picture I had available of Borky and I playing piano. You know, it was just like bare bones. I was like, I'll get back to it. At least I just like, picture up there. It was just a picture and it just said, what we do? And I'm getting all these hits. And so I spent a whole bunch of time then, like, I'll put a bunch of Photos and like videos of us playing and descriptions. And this is exactly what we do, this is what we bring. Like, this is the equipment that we have, et cetera. And I haven't gotten a hit since. So I'm like, okay, so you're telling me when I had just a photo up there, all these people are interested, you know, Now I have it all complete and it's dried up. Something's off. [00:38:17] Speaker C: Yep. The shakedown is on. [00:38:19] Speaker A: Sounds like Tinder. [00:38:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:21] Speaker A: You ever on Tinder? Now you've been. You've been common law for so long. [00:38:26] Speaker B: When Tinder came out, I accidentally invited everybody in my phone contact to Tinder. Including like ex girlfriends, moms, etc, Boss, [00:38:34] Speaker A: check you out on Tinder. Hey, check me out. I'm on Tinder. [00:38:37] Speaker B: Y. Y. [00:38:37] Speaker A: Like I'm on Facebook. [00:38:39] Speaker B: Yeah. I hit the wrong button and all of a sudden, one invite went out to everybody and I was getting messages. Yeah. From people I hadn't seen in 10 years. [00:38:47] Speaker A: Yeah, well, maybe. Did you catch any fish? [00:38:49] Speaker B: Nope. [00:38:49] Speaker C: I was gonna say from that contact list. Score. [00:38:52] Speaker B: No, did not work. [00:38:54] Speaker A: I never did any Internet dating either. [00:38:56] Speaker B: I tried it a few times when it was new, and I quickly realized it's not. [00:39:01] Speaker A: Well, I'm old to the point where you've done it. When it first came out, then you were considered kind of a creep, but now it's. That's just the way people date. [00:39:10] Speaker B: I don't know when I tried it. A lot of. Enough people are doing it. [00:39:13] Speaker A: Yeah, well, you're a young man. Fuck is this? [00:39:18] Speaker C: What's that? [00:39:19] Speaker A: The pipe? [00:39:20] Speaker B: Oh, it's inside pipe you gave me last night. Is it a filter? It's a filter. [00:39:23] Speaker A: Filter. So you can smoke this thing. [00:39:26] Speaker B: That's revolutionary news. [00:39:27] Speaker C: I told you. God damn. Well, you can smoke it. [00:39:30] Speaker A: It's not. It could be a novelty. It's just for show, like a. Like a costume pipe. [00:39:37] Speaker B: And maybe they put the filter in there to really. Yeah, to really sell it, make it look realistic. [00:39:43] Speaker C: All right, if we go to the fucking Flea this week, we're going talk to the guy. [00:39:47] Speaker A: We're going. But your game time decision, depending on your gobbed up. [00:39:52] Speaker C: We're back to dodgy knees again. [00:40:01] Speaker B: How are we looking for our agenda? [00:40:02] Speaker A: We're looking good. Let's get. [00:40:06] Speaker B: Let's get to the meat. Let's get. Let's get to the. Let's get to the gout of the program. [00:40:11] Speaker C: Let's get the comedy gout. [00:40:13] Speaker A: Who got the gout? Well, I didn't choose this fella. [00:40:19] Speaker B: You did. [00:40:19] Speaker A: And I'm very interested because you usually choose a female who has some kind of, you know, upstart female. [00:40:30] Speaker C: Yep. [00:40:30] Speaker A: But this time you chose old friend Hannibal Baress. Why did you choose this man? [00:40:39] Speaker C: I was looking for a female to annoy you with and just could not. [00:40:43] Speaker A: I like the one that. [00:40:44] Speaker C: That popped out. So I thought, you know what? I haven't chosen someone we know for a while. Here we go. And it's funny to think of how old Hannibal is now. You know, how old is he? [00:41:02] Speaker A: He's 42. [00:41:03] Speaker C: He's 42. And it's like I remember him just being this kid that wandered in, you know, ran a. Ran a. I'm gonna sure. If it was an open mic or a showcase on Lincoln Avenue. [00:41:13] Speaker A: He did. [00:41:14] Speaker C: Yeah. I thought he was at DePaul at the time, but his resume does not say he ever went to DePaul. And you know, he's famous. Slash infamous for being appallingly bad and then becoming the biggest name in American comedy. I think you could. You could have safely called him at one point. No, and when he took down. When he took Cosby down. Because when he took Cosby down, I thought, wow, that's. That's how big you are. And he actually talks about that in this special about how crazy it was that, you know, he. He became this focal point. So, you know, I remember Hannibal work walking into the lodge as a 23 year old or whatever. And I think we already. [00:42:05] Speaker A: What year was this? [00:42:06] Speaker C: I don't know, 2003, 2004. You were long gone. You, you. [00:42:12] Speaker A: I wouldn't say long gone. I was around. I was on the margin. [00:42:15] Speaker C: Shot your bolt way before. I mean, the show was going well by now, so your show, the Lodge was going well. [00:42:23] Speaker A: So you only got those early days. [00:42:25] Speaker C: You were long gone. And, and yeah, you know, getting like this lad, he always played it close to his chest. And at one point, because of this whole controversy over the Mike Bridenstine book, I thought Hannibal, we were on his shit list. The Lincoln Lodge. I thought we were Personas non grata. And then out of the blue. [00:42:51] Speaker A: Why would you be on the shit list? Because Brian Stein wrote that in the book. [00:42:55] Speaker C: Because we held the book launch. [00:42:58] Speaker A: Oh, right, right. [00:42:59] Speaker C: And I don't think Hannibal was amused by that. But then something happened last year where I was like, no, no, we're not on Hannibal shit list any. You know, and I had a good long conversation with him about some stuff. It wasn't conflict or anything before your little eyes light up over there. And I was like, wow, okay, I misread the sitch. So now I was like, you know what? I've never. I always say this. Once people leave the. The sphere of the Lincoln Lodge, I lose interest in them. [00:43:36] Speaker A: You do? [00:43:37] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:43:38] Speaker A: I don't believe that for one second. [00:43:39] Speaker C: Very rarely watch their TV specials or, you know, oh, they're on SNL tonight. I'm gonna go watch it because. [00:43:50] Speaker A: Not true. [00:43:50] Speaker C: I'm very Lodge centric. [00:43:52] Speaker A: Yeah. Not true. [00:43:53] Speaker C: And so Hannibal, I had never watched any of his published. Published work, really, until this. So part of it was, you know, the interest. [00:44:06] Speaker B: It's funny, I was kind of the opposite with this whole thing. I remember watching this the first time. I was living around the corner over at Diversity in Richmond with my buddy Gino. And. And it was 2016, and this special came out on Netflix, and I. I thought, I'm gonna see who this guy is all about. What? [00:44:22] Speaker C: Whenever you see Geno, do you always go, whoa, Geno? Yeah, in the manner of the Dex's Midnight Runners song. [00:44:30] Speaker B: Yeah. Did I tell you that before or something? [00:44:31] Speaker C: Did you? [00:44:32] Speaker B: No. [00:44:32] Speaker C: Okay. [00:44:33] Speaker B: I don't know what this song is. [00:44:34] Speaker C: Whoa, Geno. That's the best Dexy's Midnight Runner song. [00:44:39] Speaker A: Yeah. I'm not familiar. [00:44:41] Speaker C: Bring it up at the end. We'll go out to that. Oh, yeah, carry on. Sorry, I meant. I didn't mean to. [00:44:45] Speaker B: No, it's all good. But, yeah, I do remember putting this special on, saying, I've been hearing a lot about this Hannibal Burris guy, and, you know, this Netflix special's out. I'm gonna give it a shot. And so I watched it, and I was hooked immediately. And then I had to watch everything he ever did. I became obsessed. I had. I couldn't get enough. I was watching all of his material. I wanted to see everything. So you went from seeing everything he did to not watching him at all. And I was complete opposite. I had never heard of him. And I watched everything he did. [00:45:16] Speaker C: I remember when we did the last ever show at the original Lincoln Restaurant, and we only got a week's notice that it was closing, so we had to bolt this together. And Hannibal went up in the last ever show, and people lost it, obviously. [00:45:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:45:34] Speaker C: Because Ricky Gonzalez was hosting the show, and he just goes up and goes, oh, this guy came by and asked if he could come up because it's the last ever show. So he said, yeah, why not? Hannibal, Boris. And people just went, ah, wait. [00:45:48] Speaker A: He was already big wheel at this. [00:45:50] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. [00:45:50] Speaker A: What year was this? [00:45:52] Speaker C: We left the original Lincoln Restaurant. I wanna say 2015. [00:45:58] Speaker A: Okay. [00:45:58] Speaker B: Okay. [00:45:59] Speaker A: So it was right before the special. [00:46:01] Speaker B: Yep. [00:46:01] Speaker C: Possibly. Yeah. [00:46:02] Speaker A: Yeah. So when did he hit big and how did he hit big and why? It wasn't the Cosby was before the Cosby. Shit. So where did he, you know, make his mark? [00:46:15] Speaker C: I don't know. Because like I say, once they leave the large hemisphere. [00:46:18] Speaker A: When did he leave the large hemisphere? [00:46:20] Speaker C: About probably 2010, 2011. I want to say [00:46:26] Speaker B: there was one time I was over at Old Town Ale House and I was standing there at the bar waiting to order a drink and somebody to my right, a friend of mine, I think it was my buddy John Becker, must have been, he said, he said, hey, Hannibal Burris is standing next to you on the other side. And I was like. I said no. So I turned and I looked to my left where Hannibal was standing and I think he had heard Becker say that because he looked at me at the same time and I didn't want him to get a big head. So I, I didn't say anything to just look back. Yeah, all right. So I don't want him to get too cocky, you know? [00:47:01] Speaker A: Yeah, like in the, in the special. He doesn't want any. [00:47:04] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, right, right. [00:47:08] Speaker A: Like the cop. [00:47:08] Speaker B: Yeah, I wasn't going to give him that. [00:47:11] Speaker A: I. So when he was here, who was he contemporaries with? That's not the right way to say. Who was he buddies with? I know him and CJ are buddies, but like, who, who was he running mates with? [00:47:22] Speaker C: He wasn't really. He did his. Plowed his own furrow. He. I mean, he would turn up, he was. You'd have like the fact that he was absolute. Just stage time junkie. He was everywhere you could go. If. If there was a shitty open mic on the north side at 11 o' clock on a Tuesday, he was there, he put in the hours, but he didn't really use his cards close to his chest. So he wasn't like. He didn't fall in with a click. Which is probably why he developed so fast and so well because he was not focused on all the bullshit that distracts you. Like, oh, these are my mates. Aren't we geniuses? We just hang out in the back of a bar jerking each other off all the time. It was just, I'm here to get this job done. [00:48:12] Speaker A: Was he in with those blurreds guys? [00:48:14] Speaker C: No, not at all. He. Now, TJ Miller was a huge fan of his and tj certainly. Who was at that time. Yeah, yeah. Cuz I remember when his name came up when we were. We used to have these God awful large cast meetings and they would take two hours. Arguing over comedians that had a difference in ability so infinitesimal it didn't matter. But these twats would just sit, oh, no, I don't think we should book this one. We should book that one. They're the same thing. Who cares? And T.J. miller bought up Hannibal and the just the whole room groaned and said, no effing way, he sucks. And TJ said, no, he doesn't. He's the future of comedy. We should put him up. And I said to tj, all right, I'm going to put him up on a show that you're in and I'm going to stand next to you. I know this with a fork. And I'm going to jab you in the balls every time he does some, you know, joke that doesn't land. And he just blew the doors off on that goddamn show. [00:49:28] Speaker A: So I don't know how much we should go into it, but. But part of Hannibal's being upset about the book that Bridenside wrote was. I don't know that I remember reading this part, but he says that people regarded him as a shitty comedian when he was here. And that's what he took umbrage at, right. Was the fact that he was being characterized as a lousy comedian who most surprisingly made it big. [00:49:52] Speaker C: Well, I had a long convo with him about it and his whole point was like, everyone started off. Why should it be focused on me being. And I said, yeah, but everyone started off. Hannibal and most remained. You became the biggest name in American comedy. That's a story arc. [00:50:15] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:50:17] Speaker C: You're. We're all still in the gutter. You're in the stars. Like, that's why. And he was just like, well, it just makes me how, you know, my reputation and all this. I'm like, what are you talking about? But it's. That's the story arc. You were crap. We were all crap. You became the best. [00:50:37] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:50:38] Speaker C: And he just, he just wasn't getting it. We had this long convo on the phone about it. [00:50:45] Speaker A: Yeah. But you know, like, if you ever hear any comedian story or you hear comedians talk about starting out, every. Almost every comedian I've ever heard talk about talks about how bad they were. Right. Every comedian acknowledges that, how bad and shitty they were when they started. I think every comedian is, for the most part, maybe say for one or two. Why is he so reluctant to admit that or acknowledge it's not a bad thing? It's it's how we. How every comedian. [00:51:12] Speaker C: No, no, like I say, he wasn't reluctant to admit it. He. What he was pissed off about was the book honed in on him. [00:51:19] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:21] Speaker C: And said, you know, everyone's pilot. He's so. He was so bad. Oh, my God, he was so bad. And I think he just took umbrage with why single me out. [00:51:30] Speaker A: Yeah, that's fair, I guess. [00:51:33] Speaker C: But like, say story arc, move the [00:51:36] Speaker B: microphone closer to your mouth, [00:51:41] Speaker C: But any Hughes. [00:51:42] Speaker A: Yeah. So I just missed him. I mean, I. I kind of remember him just from the other guys talking about him and stuff, but I didn't, you know, I wasn't around when he was. I wasn't really around when he was [00:51:52] Speaker C: still mates with cj, Right. [00:51:54] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. And so I've, you know, kind of bumped into him through CJ a couple times, but I didn't follow his career during those years. You mentioned, you know, when he kind of rose to this. The point of this special. So I don't know when or how. I mean, he did well, do you know? See, man. [00:52:15] Speaker B: No, like I said, my first. The first time I ever heard anything he did was in 2016. And by then, I mean, I don't know the timeline, but I think by then I had heard about him for a year or two. [00:52:25] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:52:25] Speaker C: I mean, another boring story I tell is that I remember talking to a cast member one time and saying, who should we book? Who's hot shit? And this cast member said, we should pay Hannibal Boris $1,000 a show and do four shows in a row. And I fainted. I mean, that was just. [00:52:45] Speaker A: When was. When was this? [00:52:47] Speaker C: I don't know. I have to go look it up. [00:52:49] Speaker A: But like it's. [00:52:50] Speaker C: It's pre TV previous. [00:52:53] Speaker A: Really. [00:52:53] Speaker C: And this cast member said, he is the hottest in comedy right now. These shows will sell out. And I said, at 4 grand. This is when in the back of the diner, we will get crucified. And he said, nope, he's the best, hottest comedian in. In comedy right now. And we did the four shows and they all sold out like in a day. [00:53:14] Speaker A: Oh, you did do the shows. [00:53:16] Speaker C: Yeah, we did do the shows. [00:53:17] Speaker A: Did you make your money back? [00:53:19] Speaker C: I mean, we barely made any money because. [00:53:21] Speaker A: Charge that much for. [00:53:22] Speaker C: Yeah, because we didn't charge that much. But yeah, we just did. We. That was in the days. We just did stuff to do it. [00:53:27] Speaker A: Who was that? The person that told you that? [00:53:30] Speaker C: Dan Ronin. [00:53:31] Speaker A: Okay, smart. [00:53:33] Speaker C: He knew now that now sadly departed. But yeah, he. Because, I mean, I tell this Story. I had my phone with me. And he goes, hannibal Boris. Thousand dollars a show. Four shows. That's how we end the year. It's gonna be sold out. And like I say, I'm, you know, me, four grand. Jesus Christ. And in the end, I said, all right, here's my phone. It's got his number on it. Call him right there. And then in the restaurant, Ronan calls him. Hey, Hannibal, it's Dan with the Lincoln Lodge. Would you do foreshadows? Yep. And he hands me the phone back. It's on. [00:54:14] Speaker A: Awesome. [00:54:14] Speaker C: It's on. [00:54:15] Speaker A: That's awesome. And he was great. He killed it. What did he do, a half hour? [00:54:20] Speaker C: I can't remember exactly. It would have been a cash. I see. He would have done 30 to 40 minutes with a couple of cast members opening. [00:54:27] Speaker A: Yeah, that's cool. [00:54:29] Speaker C: And that's when I knew. Holy shit. Yeah. [00:54:31] Speaker A: And so then what were the circumstances of him showing up at the last show? Was he. He just happened to be in town or something? [00:54:36] Speaker C: Yeah, just in town and heard. [00:54:38] Speaker A: And when he left here, he go to New York or la? [00:54:40] Speaker C: New York, Yeah, because he got in. He opened up the doors of the Knitting Factory to comedy. He really established that. [00:54:48] Speaker A: Oh, that place. [00:54:49] Speaker C: Place, yeah. [00:54:49] Speaker A: And then who was he in with that? I think I remember. I don't know if it was. It was another black comedian, right. That kind of recognized his talent and. And brought him in. [00:55:00] Speaker C: Yeah, there was two. [00:55:02] Speaker A: So there was like Chris Ross, maybe? [00:55:05] Speaker C: No, I don't think he had like some high up champion. No, I don't think so. [00:55:10] Speaker A: Who did I see him? Well, I saw him perform open for Jim Gaffigan here. [00:55:17] Speaker C: He opened for. It's funny. [00:55:19] Speaker A: Open for people. [00:55:20] Speaker C: Yeah, because he opened for, I want to say Mulaney at the United Center. [00:55:27] Speaker A: Okay. [00:55:27] Speaker C: And I said to. I said when we were having this convo, I said to him, you're at the United center, for Christ's sake, and we're all still in the gutter. He goes, well, I'm not at the United Center. I'm just opening for Mulaney. You're still at the United Center? Like on stage, dude. [00:55:43] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:55:46] Speaker C: What was it someone else I can remember him opening for? But anyway. [00:55:53] Speaker A: Well, I could ask you all day about him and his origin story. [00:55:57] Speaker B: Do you think he'd come in and do an episode? [00:55:59] Speaker A: Yeah, maybe not an episode. Would he perform at the Lodge? [00:56:02] Speaker C: No, I don't know anymore. The last time I spoke to him, he was sort of getting back on the standup horse and I was too nervous to say. To say, would you do the lodge? It's our 25th anniversary. It would be a huge thing. So I was just like, you know what? Bridge has been mended. I'm not gonna push my luck. [00:56:27] Speaker B: Well, maybe next year you can tell him it's the 26th anniversary. It's gonna be a huge thing. [00:56:30] Speaker A: 26th. [00:56:31] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:56:36] Speaker A: Well, I've seen him in a couple movies. Right, you chose him. What. What movies? I know he's is in Daddy's Home. He was great in Daddy. So what other movies has he been in? [00:56:46] Speaker C: I don't watch him. [00:56:47] Speaker B: He was in that TV show. [00:56:48] Speaker C: It was Eric Andre. Yeah, but he had a fallout. [00:56:51] Speaker B: He was also in, what was it, Girls? Was that the TV show he was in? He played the boyfriend. [00:56:55] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. No, he was Broad City. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:56:59] Speaker A: He mentions that in the special. I never watched that show, so. [00:57:01] Speaker B: Dang, it was good. Yeah, yeah. [00:57:03] Speaker C: Broadcast. [00:57:03] Speaker A: Yeah, he's a good show, but he's been in. So where is he now? Right, in terms of. You said he's getting back on the standup horse. Is he movies? Is he doing stand up? [00:57:14] Speaker C: He went in, he started doing rapping hip hop stuff. And he's. He one thing. He. The last time, one of the times I spoke to him, so I saw her in the news, he'd founded like a STEM school on the west side of Chicago. [00:57:29] Speaker B: Really? [00:57:30] Speaker C: Yeah, you know, to try and get [00:57:32] Speaker A: your Hannibal Baress STEM Academy or something [00:57:35] Speaker C: like that named after him. Well, I don't know. It's not there anymore. So I. I submitted to them and said, hey, you know, I'm a computer professional, would love to volunteer my time at whatever you're doing. And I know other computer professionals who may, you know, want to get involved in this STEM school. They never responded. So I actually called him and said, hey, you know, I. Not to be a dick, but I submitted through their website volunteering to help and whatever. And they never got back. And he said, yeah, the whole thing kind of went pear shape in the end, so. Yeah, okay. [00:58:13] Speaker A: But he's still out doing his act. He have a recent special, this one we're looking at today, Comedy Commisado 2016. [00:58:19] Speaker C: Well, he was at Skokie for some reason. Skokie Art center is really getting into comedy and he did a show there, I want to say, a few months ago. [00:58:28] Speaker A: So if he performs, if he comes through town, Chicago, I guess, Skokie. But like, he wouldn't. He couldn't sell out a united center. [00:58:37] Speaker C: He used to just show up at places I Mean, I think he could still. He could still sell out stuff, right? You're a fan. [00:58:44] Speaker B: I don't know about United Center. That's pretty if you're not, like, at the height of your rolling. [00:58:50] Speaker C: You know, when he was coming back to town, I once saw the most insane goddamn comedy show you could ever see. He would come back to town and he would. You know, he's got all these big rolling mates now. He did a show at Beat Kitchen. It was him, John Mulaney, Amy Schumer, and, like, a couple of very good locals. Because he just came. It was the. [00:59:17] Speaker A: I want to say Thanksgiving or something. [00:59:18] Speaker C: You told us. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:59:20] Speaker B: I remember this. [00:59:21] Speaker C: And I was like, holy. [00:59:22] Speaker A: Did you go to it? [00:59:23] Speaker C: Yeah, I got. Yeah, of course I did. [00:59:25] Speaker A: That's awesome. That's cool. All right, well, let's take a look at this. Let's talk about this special, 2016's comedy Camisado. Let's start with that. What is a camisado? [00:59:34] Speaker B: Yeah, I was wondering. I was wondering the same thing. [00:59:35] Speaker C: I looked it up. It's a surprise military attack. [00:59:40] Speaker A: Oh, camisado. [00:59:42] Speaker C: Yeah. I thought it was some, like, Mexican friend word. Yeah. [00:59:46] Speaker A: Shirt in Mexican. [00:59:47] Speaker C: Yeah, it's a. It's a. It's a military attack. [00:59:51] Speaker A: Okay. He doesn't ever reference it here, right? [00:59:54] Speaker B: No, I didn't hear it. [00:59:56] Speaker A: Knowing that now, do we know where. You know what the reference is? [01:00:00] Speaker B: Just the alliteration. [01:00:01] Speaker A: The alliteration, Yeah. [01:00:02] Speaker C: I don't know. [01:00:05] Speaker A: Was this his first big one? 2016. Jesus Christ. You chose it. You got to know. Remember last week with dice? I go dice, facts, all the stuff. Boom, boom, boom. [01:00:15] Speaker C: I just gave you tons of Hannibal insider gossip. [01:00:19] Speaker A: Yeah, but come on, I think I'd seen this. You said you saw it, seaman back in the day. I remember the joke about Smoothie King that he talked about Smoothie King arena, but I don't. I don't remember the rest of the. The act. [01:00:36] Speaker C: He might have used that bit in, like, Letterman and stuff. Appearances and. Because, okay, there was a couple of bits where I was like, well, I know that bit. [01:00:45] Speaker A: Yeah, I've. [01:00:46] Speaker C: No, I haven't seen this special. Did he do it on stage at the Lodge, or was it one of those little blip things, you know, where they just shoot you two minutes. The pelican. That was the thing when he was talking about the pelicans. I know I'd seen that joke before. [01:01:01] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:01:03] Speaker B: I wasn't sure at first if this is the one that I had seen all those years ago until until the bit where he's trying to get to the. The comfort in without an id. And he's. He's making up this whole. Just the layers that he keeps going through to. [01:01:19] Speaker C: You know, in improv, they call it heightening. [01:01:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:22] Speaker C: He is the master of height. [01:01:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:24] Speaker C: And he always was, even as a young. [01:01:27] Speaker A: What do you mean by that? [01:01:28] Speaker C: Heightening, where you think this joke's gone as far as it's gonna and you just do it. [01:01:36] Speaker B: Just doubling down, keeps hitting the gas pedal. [01:01:38] Speaker A: Yeah. Yep, yep. I didn't know that was called heightening, though. [01:01:43] Speaker C: Improv people do it. It's where you just. [01:01:45] Speaker A: You commit to it. [01:01:47] Speaker C: But you. You just. You think this is as far as it can go. No, it's going to go further. [01:01:52] Speaker A: Okay. [01:01:53] Speaker C: It's a very alt comedy tool, I would say. Yeah. [01:01:57] Speaker B: It was that sort of thing that drew me in the first time. You know, I'd never seen anybody do something like that before. You know, just. [01:02:03] Speaker C: You've not seen Bill keep going. Classic Lou Vegas. [01:02:06] Speaker B: I know. I missed it all. I wasn't here yet. [01:02:08] Speaker A: That is the definition of heightening. [01:02:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:02:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:02:10] Speaker B: I'm surprised you didn't know the term for it then. [01:02:12] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know the terms. [01:02:13] Speaker B: Yeah. You don't have to bog yourself down. Terms. You're in the art, you're doing it. [01:02:17] Speaker A: You're performing, creating, you're doing it. [01:02:19] Speaker B: You don't need to know the. What the normies are calling it. [01:02:22] Speaker A: Yeah. That's for you people. [01:02:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Right. For us civilians. [01:02:25] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, we could go through all the bits, but I don't want to do that. [01:02:30] Speaker C: But I love the Hendrix Hogan bit is a favorite. [01:02:33] Speaker B: Yeah. That's how this guy's gonna take off. [01:02:38] Speaker A: So good. That's a great bet. [01:02:40] Speaker C: And I like the fact that he uses the cut of his jib. I love that expression. [01:02:45] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I expected him to launch into a whole bit about the cut of the jib and what that means. There's. There's so much here that I. I just love the way that he rolls from bit to bit. [01:03:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:03:03] Speaker A: It's like they just. They don't. They're not all organic. It doesn't necessarily flow. Like, you could see with comedians how they build in the transitions or the segues. Right. He doesn't. But it works. [01:03:15] Speaker B: Right. [01:03:15] Speaker A: Like, he just switches to something else and it's kind of flows, but doesn't. But it's just. It's natural to me in a way that I think it's amazing. I love his delivery. I love the way he stands and holds the mic, it reminds me of the way he. He kind of puffs out his chest like that. Who does that remind you of? [01:03:36] Speaker B: Andrew Dice Clay. [01:03:38] Speaker A: Yes, exactly like Andrew Dice Clay. [01:03:41] Speaker C: Yeah. Coming so hard on the heels of washing Andrew Dice Clay. It's hard. It's hard to discern a difference. [01:03:48] Speaker A: Very similar. He owes him a debt, as do all comedians that were born after 1975. No, he had. He. The way he. He. His body moves on stage is like red fox. [01:04:02] Speaker B: Oh, okay. [01:04:03] Speaker A: You know, like the chest out and the arms out like that, from side to side is like a red fox. I mean, he's not like him in any other way. I wouldn't say, but. And, you know, like, we talk a lot about identity, comedians. You know, he's. He's just a comedian. [01:04:19] Speaker C: Yeah, that's. [01:04:20] Speaker A: You know, he's. [01:04:21] Speaker C: He's just a comedian at the same note. Exactly. [01:04:24] Speaker B: It's just one joke after another. [01:04:25] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. And he could do a lot of, you know. You know, you know, black people versus white people and, like. But he. And it's not. Say he doesn't do jokes about being black, but he's not, you know, you know, playing that note over and over like a, you know, Ari Shafir. [01:04:45] Speaker C: I had that note. I had the note that really. He. He only mentions being black right at the end for that NBA story. [01:04:54] Speaker A: Yeah, well, he talks about it a couple times, but, you know, when he talks about being at the airport with the cop and you know that they're gonna make it look like he was doing something wrong, but no, he's just. [01:05:09] Speaker C: It. [01:05:10] Speaker A: He's absolutely brilliant. This is absolutely incredible. From beginning to end. Didn't want it to end. Laughed out loud multiple times. Just in awe of the. The writing, the delivery, all of it. [01:05:27] Speaker C: The baseball bit where it's like, pitching around the guys, let's not do the thing that we're meant to be doing. Yeah. [01:05:36] Speaker A: So good. [01:05:37] Speaker C: And he's standing comically. Comically to the right. [01:05:41] Speaker A: Yeah, off to the side. So good. It was so good. And. And, like, to think that he was right here. And I. I wouldn't say what you said that he was the. The greatest thing in American comedy, but he certainly reached upwards of those heights. But, yeah, I mean, you could say he's the greatest to come out of here. Right. I mean, definitely the Lodge. I would say you could make that argument. Although you've got other people. Other great people. But, yeah, I mean, I don't know where he's going from here. Not this special. But like, if he's going to keep at it or he's just going to kind of, you know, do movies here and there or whatever, but like, this is as good as you'll find anywhere this special in his comedy at this point. I haven't seen his others, but, like, this is, I think, as good as you can find. [01:06:33] Speaker C: Yeah, the only, the only thing that we did me out was the backflip microphone guy at this. [01:06:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:06:39] Speaker A: What was that? [01:06:40] Speaker C: I don't know. I don't even know what function of it was. [01:06:44] Speaker A: That was weird. [01:06:45] Speaker C: Unless it was a very clever way of sort of just like jarring you into the act, you know what I mean? Like you just sitting there like, here we go. Welcome to the stage. And then this guy just walks, does a backflip for no reason and removes. And for the first two minutes you're like, well, the way he looked at [01:07:07] Speaker A: him too is like, what? He didn't even acknowledge it, right. He just went into it. What do you think? He wrapped it up and he kind of calls it back. [01:07:16] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, the callback. I love it. I love a callback. [01:07:19] Speaker A: Yeah. It's not what I like about it. And I think the, the, the through line and the comedians I like is often like, it's, it's not. It's good, it's great, it's. But it's not tight, right? He's loose. It's kind of. He shambles around a little bit, but it's all tied together and amazing. But it's not the tight like bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. Those kind of communities are just like hitting their marks over and over. [01:07:48] Speaker C: You're not looking at him going, this guy's trying to be a comedian. [01:07:51] Speaker B: Yeah, right. [01:07:51] Speaker C: This guy is. [01:07:53] Speaker A: This guy is a comedian. [01:07:54] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:07:55] Speaker A: He's not trying to kill, he just is killing. You know what I mean? It's so impressive to, to. It's. I wouldn't call it casual, but like it feels casual. Right. Like he's just up there and he's just kind of talking that to me, like that comfortability that he has on stage is, is very, very rare. Yeah, you could see like, you could see like, and, and again, I didn't see him at the time, but like, you have to be comfortable bombing, right? Like, you have to be okay with what. However the. This goes. And so I could see him starting out early, like believing in his jokes but them not landing and he doesn't care. And he would just night after night go out and, and do that and, and feel Comfortable with it. Yeah, that. That's rare. Right. Where you're not just pandering and trying to find out what's going to make people laugh. You're just. You're finding your comedy. And he definitely has. So I don't know if this is going to. I think we're all in agreement, but is this going to. [01:08:56] Speaker C: It's going to be up there for a. Challenging for a season three winner, isn't it? [01:09:01] Speaker A: Well, I think for sure, but does it unseat. Is this the best? I'm giving it. I'm giving it five out of five. [01:09:08] Speaker C: So Mulaney's still on top, right? [01:09:10] Speaker A: Yep. We all agreed. Mulaney. [01:09:11] Speaker B: We all agreed on Mulaney. Five out of five. We haven't agreed with anybody else. Right. Five out of five. That's it. [01:09:16] Speaker C: We've been close, but I think Mulaney still reigns. [01:09:19] Speaker B: Seinfeld didn't get five out of five all the way around. All right. [01:09:23] Speaker A: No. [01:09:23] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. Well, are we at our voting? [01:09:25] Speaker A: Yeah. I put my cards on. [01:09:27] Speaker B: I call y. [01:09:29] Speaker A: Talks about gambling. Those gambling bets are amazing. [01:09:31] Speaker B: Mark picked it, so he'll go last. I'll go next. Yeah, this was. I thought a lot about, you know, is this going to get. Is this gonna get the. The marks I gave, you know, some of the. Some of the guys out there that are my favorites, you know, the. The Mullaney's and the Seinfelds. We'll get a five out of five. And the answer is a clear yes. There was no fat. It was just. There's nothing. I would. Nothing. I would want more from it, you know, it was just a five out of five. What. What are we doing? Five out of five. [01:09:58] Speaker A: Printers. [01:09:59] Speaker B: Printers. That was. I love that. The line about the difference between him and Kevin Hart is that Kevin Hart has a printer. The funniest thing in the world. [01:10:08] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:10:09] Speaker B: Five out of five printers, for sure. [01:10:11] Speaker A: He's on the phone talking to somebody, and if you just print out. All right, well, this guest. We're good. This isn't gonna work out. I guess I'm not gonna be able to deliver here. Yeah. [01:10:24] Speaker C: All right, well, I'll go five out of five as well. So the question remains, do we bump? Do we call John Mulaney and say, sorry, mate, you're silver medal. [01:10:35] Speaker A: Now how do we determine that now that we've run into that here? [01:10:40] Speaker B: Right. [01:10:40] Speaker A: How do you. How do you measure them both? [01:10:44] Speaker B: Right. [01:10:44] Speaker A: For. [01:10:45] Speaker B: Well, they could just be on a Rushmore type. Yeah. Mount Rushmore. [01:10:49] Speaker C: We go around the Room. And we say, bill, does this bump Mulaney, yes or no? [01:10:56] Speaker A: Yes. [01:10:57] Speaker C: Does this bump Mulaney, yes or no? [01:11:00] Speaker B: It's tough. The Mulaney special is one of my favorites ever. I'm gonna say no. [01:11:04] Speaker C: No. So I'm the deciding vote then. Should have done me second. [01:11:12] Speaker B: What were you gonna say? [01:11:13] Speaker C: I'm bumping Mulaney. [01:11:15] Speaker A: You are? [01:11:15] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:11:16] Speaker B: I'm fine with it. Really. Wow. [01:11:20] Speaker A: They're just different too. I mean, they're just such different comedians and impressive in their own ways. This is just. I like his comedy better. [01:11:30] Speaker C: Right. [01:11:30] Speaker A: I don't know if it is better. I don't know if that. It's not something you can objectively measure, but, like, I just like Hannibal's comedy better. Right. [01:11:40] Speaker C: The where Hannibal beats Mullaney for me is the minutiae. Tiny little minutia, like the cut of his jib. The I have the soul of a 20 year old stuff. It's like that stuff. Mulaney doesn't to me have that. That's the just infinitesimal difference. [01:12:04] Speaker B: Yep. [01:12:05] Speaker A: And for me, I. I think Mulaney's just as into the minutiae in that way to me. Right. Like, he's very. So very specific. But it. To me, it's that thing that where Mulaney. That. And I would think you'd go Mulaney because how buttoned up he is and show busy. He looks like two sacks of here. Right. [01:12:26] Speaker C: No, he's presentable. [01:12:28] Speaker A: He's in a T shirt. Fucking. [01:12:29] Speaker B: No, he's not. He's in a button down shirt. [01:12:31] Speaker A: Oh, yes. [01:12:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:12:32] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, I guess he is, but he's not as buttoned up as someone like Mulaney. [01:12:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:12:39] Speaker A: And everything. I. I just. That's the difference for me. Like, I don't like that kind of buttoned up comedian as much as I do something more casual like this. But so that's the deciding factor for me. [01:12:53] Speaker B: All right. [01:12:54] Speaker A: Wow. All right. [01:12:56] Speaker C: It's gonna be hard for someone to win season three now. [01:12:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:13:00] Speaker A: And where are we in season three? [01:13:02] Speaker C: I want to say episode 14 to my notes here. That is so out of date. [01:13:09] Speaker A: Now I think it's time for season four. [01:13:11] Speaker C: I think it. This was probably episode 15. 16ish. [01:13:15] Speaker B: We could just. [01:13:16] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:13:16] Speaker B: We could call this one. End of season three. Go out with a bang. [01:13:18] Speaker A: Drop the mic. [01:13:19] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:13:19] Speaker A: Season four. [01:13:20] Speaker C: Don't drop the mic. These are expensive mics. [01:13:24] Speaker A: Season four starts next week with. [01:13:26] Speaker B: With season four. We'll see. [01:13:28] Speaker A: Hang on. [01:13:28] Speaker C: Are we not doing best and worst? [01:13:30] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, we will yeah, yeah, but we do that. [01:13:33] Speaker C: We do that eight weeks later. [01:13:35] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. We don't do that right now. We have to prepare for that. Whose pick is it? You see me, it's my pick. Yeah. To start off season four, we will be reviewing Tim Allen's. Oh, 19, I think 80 something. [01:13:51] Speaker C: Oh, what a tick. There is one more bullet left in this shite gun. [01:13:55] Speaker A: No way. [01:13:57] Speaker B: Men are pigs. [01:13:59] Speaker A: Oh, my God. I can't wait to do that impression. [01:14:12] Speaker C: Let it get to the chorus. Had a very good brass section. The best. It was the best Dexi song. I'm looking down on you. I thought it was then, but it's a lot. Okay, so there's OG. There we go. There we go.
