[00:00:08] Speaker A: I've got a. They were selling a little bit of merch during the pandemic. And I've got a pint glass that says Galway Bay. We'll be back worse than ever. [00:00:16] Speaker B: That's cool, too. [00:00:16] Speaker A: Yeah. They do sell merch. [00:00:18] Speaker C: They do? [00:00:19] Speaker A: Yeah. They've got a hoodie that's for sale. They used to have this really cool hoodie that. [00:00:23] Speaker C: But did I get rid of. Sell it. [00:00:25] Speaker A: That's for sale. For sale? [00:00:26] Speaker C: No, no. But do they sell? [00:00:28] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:00:29] Speaker B: What do you mean? [00:00:30] Speaker A: I see people wearing them. I'm not. I haven't seen anybody hand over money for them. [00:00:34] Speaker C: Selling them and actually selling them. [00:00:37] Speaker B: Like the merch here, they've got a little. Or do you sell it? [00:00:40] Speaker A: They've got a. They've got a small display case up, as a matter of fact, like we were talking about this morning next to the bar. [00:00:48] Speaker C: So what? Give me the hard numbers on their sales. [00:00:51] Speaker B: He doesn't know. [00:00:52] Speaker A: How the hell would I. [00:00:54] Speaker C: Well, you. You stood behind the bar for three years. So you. Constantly bugged by drunken trixies from Lincoln park, saying, can I buy? [00:01:04] Speaker A: No. Not one of them asked me for a T shirt. They all wanted High Noons. None of them wanted T shirts. [00:01:09] Speaker B: Saving their money for booze, not T shirts. [00:01:11] Speaker A: I wasn't there to sell merch. I was there to sell dreams. [00:01:15] Speaker B: Yep. Piano Man. You're really like the piano man. [00:01:18] Speaker A: I am. [00:01:19] Speaker B: That's what you are. The piano man. [00:01:20] Speaker A: Yeah. That's why I play. That's how. That's why I learned the instrument to begin with, is because I heard that song and I said, I want to sell dreams of Galway Bay as. [00:01:28] Speaker C: Also, I thought of a great song for you today. [00:01:31] Speaker A: What is it? [00:01:32] Speaker C: It'd be funny. What if Elton John song, instead of the actual lyrics. Hold Me Closer. Tony Danza. [00:01:42] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:43] Speaker C: You could build a whole funny song out of it. [00:01:45] Speaker A: Oh, I do that all the time already. [00:01:46] Speaker B: Parody songs. [00:01:47] Speaker A: I say Tony Danza, like Weird Al. Well, hold Me Closer. Tony Danza is kind of a common. People have done it. [00:01:55] Speaker B: Oh, they have, yeah. [00:01:56] Speaker A: And I get what you're saying. The whole thing. Off of it. But song parody, it'd be a little hacky. [00:02:03] Speaker B: And then you'd have to, like, come up with lyrics that fit Tony Danza's career. [00:02:07] Speaker A: Right. [00:02:08] Speaker B: Like Taxi. [00:02:10] Speaker A: Who's the boss. Yeah. That's all anybody knows anymore. Nobody knows that he's on Taxi. Nobody even knows what Taxi is. [00:02:16] Speaker B: No, no. I have a shirt that has Taxi on it. Mark gave me. [00:02:20] Speaker A: I used to love that show when I was a kid. Danny DeVito, Andy Kaufman. Who else was famous on there? Oh, John H. Yeah. [00:02:28] Speaker B: Jeff Conaway. [00:02:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:29] Speaker C: Marilu Henner was the one for the dads, as they say. [00:02:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Brian McGann loves. [00:02:36] Speaker A: What does one for the Gipper mean? A GI for the Gipper. Is that what it is? [00:02:40] Speaker B: It's. It's from a movie? [00:02:41] Speaker C: No, no. One for the dads. A British. [00:02:44] Speaker A: Well, that's different. [00:02:44] Speaker B: Yeah, but one for the Gipper. It's a different Ronald Reagan movie. Like it's a foot. Ronald Reagan football movie where he says, let's win this one for the Gippers. [00:02:54] Speaker A: Is that it, really? [00:02:55] Speaker B: I don't know. Remember the name of the movie? [00:02:58] Speaker A: Way different. [00:02:59] Speaker C: Don't they use it in Airplane? And that's how most people know it. [00:03:01] Speaker A: A gip for the Gipper. [00:03:02] Speaker B: I don't remember. [00:03:03] Speaker A: Isn't that what they say? I thought people say that at bars or something. Like, and one G for the Gipper. Or like, you know, you toss in a corner. [00:03:09] Speaker B: One for the Gipper. Yeah, one for the Gipper. [00:03:12] Speaker A: That's not it, though. [00:03:13] Speaker B: How to get. For the Gipper. [00:03:14] Speaker A: Oh, okay. Well, what is a gipper? Is this hacky too? [00:03:17] Speaker C: Is it like a kipper? [00:03:19] Speaker A: What's a kipper? [00:03:20] Speaker C: Kipper is a fish that you eat for breakfast. [00:03:23] Speaker B: Nobody eats fish for breakfast. [00:03:25] Speaker A: Actually, I had fish for breakfast today. [00:03:26] Speaker B: You did Salmon? [00:03:27] Speaker A: I put salmon in my salad. Yeah, I always. Yeah, yeah. [00:03:33] Speaker B: What do you. What are you fixing to do with them? Viz. [00:03:35] Speaker C: All right, so I thought of a great new segment. It's a mashup, right? It's Viz's top tips, which we've never done before. People sending top tips. But you're going to read them in the style of Sling Blade. [00:03:48] Speaker B: Oh, okay. All right, let me get ready. [00:03:51] Speaker A: Let's each do a character. [00:03:52] Speaker C: So do that. Do. The first one is Sling Blade. I've got commit to it. [00:03:59] Speaker B: I've got new glasses, did you notice? [00:04:00] Speaker C: Commit. [00:04:01] Speaker B: These are my everyday glasses now. They're progressives. I can see you and I can see this. [00:04:07] Speaker C: 700 bucks day glasses. [00:04:10] Speaker B: 700 bucks for these? [00:04:11] Speaker C: No, it wasn't. [00:04:13] Speaker D: Yeah, it was. [00:04:14] Speaker B: They're that much. They cost that much. [00:04:15] Speaker C: What happened to your child molester glasses? [00:04:18] Speaker B: Well, you shame me into not wearing them. Those are just readers, though. [00:04:21] Speaker C: You know, there's glasses over there that cost A$20. [00:04:24] Speaker B: These are actual glasses that I wear everywhere. They're progressive lenses. What you mean and they're Japanese. [00:04:30] Speaker C: They vote for health care. Yeah, I'm on fire today. [00:04:34] Speaker B: Yeah, it's on fire in here. It's 150. [00:04:37] Speaker A: It is warm, Cryson. I know. [00:04:40] Speaker B: Crutch. [00:04:40] Speaker C: Come on then. New segment. Commit. [00:04:43] Speaker B: Why is it called commit? Wait, I gotta do my. I gotta get my warm up slingbay before I read any of this copy. [00:04:51] Speaker D: I. Reagan. You want to know what it is I'm doing in here? I reckon you want to know. I killed somebody. Avoid leaving embarrassing floaters in the turret by sprinkling a handful of ball bearings. A lead shot onto every. [00:05:12] Speaker B: Did you get that? [00:05:13] Speaker D: That. [00:05:13] Speaker B: That was the. That was what you wanted. [00:05:14] Speaker C: Me? Yeah, it wasn't very good. [00:05:16] Speaker B: Well, hold on. All right, here we go. [00:05:18] Speaker C: We kind of skated through it. [00:05:19] Speaker B: This is a. [00:05:20] Speaker C: We should have done it. [00:05:21] Speaker B: You gotta do it one breath. [00:05:22] Speaker C: No, no, you gotta. You've got to do it in the middle. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Okay. What is this even about? This is apropos of nothing. These are tips. For what? [00:05:31] Speaker C: Top tips. [00:05:31] Speaker B: Top tips. So avoid leaving embarrassing floaters in the toilet by sprinkling a handful of ball bearings or lead shot onto every meal. I don't get that. [00:05:40] Speaker A: Oh, I kind of get that. I used to tell a joke that I would eat toilet paper after every meal and then I wouldn't have to wipe. [00:05:45] Speaker B: Well, that's clever. [00:05:48] Speaker C: If you put. If you ate lead, you wouldn't have a floating turd. [00:05:54] Speaker B: All right, here's one. In the voice of Carl from Sling Blade. [00:06:01] Speaker D: Suggest to your wife that you tell each other your teenage crushes and pretend to be them in the bedroom. Then tell her your crush was the woman on the shaking back adverts. [00:06:18] Speaker A: Something about the voice. [00:06:19] Speaker D: Not only will you have a fantasy [00:06:21] Speaker B: romp, I can't follow it. [00:06:23] Speaker D: Oh, your bedroom carpet will be lovely and regular. [00:06:28] Speaker A: Stuck the landing. You really did. You're gonna have GURP for a week now and. [00:06:34] Speaker D: Oh, God. Wil reading your hard copy of his draw emoticon under each panel so that people who you lend it to afterwards will know what you thought of it. I G, E G. A smiley face if you thought the panel was funny. Or more likely, a sad face if it didn't make you laugh. [00:07:05] Speaker A: You know what the listener doesn't get out of this? The listener doesn't get the face that you're really committing to. The sling blade sticking the lip out. [00:07:13] Speaker B: Well, you have to do it. [00:07:13] Speaker A: The bottom lip. [00:07:14] Speaker B: A huge underbite to do the voice. [00:07:16] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:18] Speaker B: Then the sound comes from, like, your. [00:07:20] Speaker D: Your jaw here. [00:07:21] Speaker A: Oh, I see. [00:07:23] Speaker B: Yep. Do you want me to keep going with these? [00:07:32] Speaker C: I think it files. [00:07:33] Speaker B: It didn't go well. [00:07:34] Speaker D: Why? [00:07:34] Speaker B: Because you couldn't understand what I was saying. [00:07:36] Speaker A: I. I enjoyed it because I couldn't understand what you're saying. [00:07:39] Speaker B: I'll try one more. [00:07:40] Speaker A: That was the best part. [00:07:41] Speaker B: This is a short. [00:07:41] Speaker A: Try to make it a little more co. Not coherent. Yeah, but. [00:07:46] Speaker B: Well, you want me to work in the. [00:07:47] Speaker A: I don't know, like, where you would. I want you. I want to be able to follow along with what's happening, so I'm not [00:07:53] Speaker B: going to do any. [00:07:53] Speaker A: Put some emphasis on the. On the important words. [00:07:56] Speaker B: All right. That's hard to know. [00:07:58] Speaker A: As he improvises. [00:08:00] Speaker D: Peach lashes blade in a bowl of water will fool your neighbor. [00:08:06] Speaker A: Water. [00:08:06] Speaker B: Okay. Are you gonna interrupt me helping slash [00:08:10] Speaker D: his braids in a bowl of water? [00:08:12] Speaker A: There we go. [00:08:13] Speaker D: Well, fool your neighbor in the ding. And you g. Gold. [00:08:16] Speaker A: There we go. Yeah. [00:08:17] Speaker D: Add peach ass for coin. [00:08:20] Speaker A: Yeah, that was the best one. The emphasis did everything there. [00:08:25] Speaker B: Now I'm losing the voice. I'm messing with my whole voice. [00:08:30] Speaker D: And then I. I just saw red. I saw Jesse was going at it on my mother, and I just. All red. I sit there, grab that Kaiser blade. Some people call it a sling blade. I call it a ger blade. And I hit Jesse upside the head with it. I guess I killed him. [00:08:52] Speaker C: I think the readers should write in with a yes or no to keep the segment. [00:08:58] Speaker A: Yeah, the readers. [00:08:59] Speaker D: Oh, we got. [00:09:00] Speaker B: We got listeners. Listen. Every time I leave the house, which is not often, except when. Come here. [00:09:05] Speaker C: Despite your full love, the people reading [00:09:06] Speaker B: the transcript, this podcast, I run into somebody who happened to be listening to the show. [00:09:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:13] Speaker C: You mean Mrs. Coming back in. Not my Mrs. Shops. [00:09:17] Speaker B: Not my Mrs. I do want to give a shout out to my Mrs. I know she's listening. It's October 31st. No, August 31st. I don't know when you're hearing this, but this morning on August 31st was magical. What we did together, we had never done. And I won't soon forget it. You took me around the world. Thank you. And my wife for one of the best mornings of my life. All right. [00:09:58] Speaker A: Yeah, I gotta go. [00:10:00] Speaker C: I think you should have read some romantic music over. [00:10:04] Speaker A: Oh, I know. Yeah. I was too distracted by. Yeah, you were. [00:10:07] Speaker B: It was like you're listening to a Penthouse letter over there. [00:10:09] Speaker A: It's getting misty over here, getting sweaty. I got the vapors. Yeah, [00:10:14] Speaker C: I wonder if they still do letters to letters. [00:10:17] Speaker B: Penhouse letters. Oh, sure, I'm sure. [00:10:19] Speaker C: But there's no hard. [00:10:21] Speaker B: No hard copies out there. [00:10:22] Speaker C: Most pawns got to be out of hard copy by now or do you still see them? [00:10:26] Speaker B: I don't. [00:10:27] Speaker C: Under the hedge rows. [00:10:29] Speaker B: No, I don't. I don't see him on the newsstand. Although they do have magazines. [00:10:35] Speaker C: I was gonna say, I don't. [00:10:36] Speaker B: They're magazines, but. [00:10:37] Speaker C: So I shop for mags, so I don't want to see them. [00:10:41] Speaker B: Jules got mags, but they don't have dirty mags. Well, let's be on the lookout next time you go to a rest stop or truck stop, that's where they'd have them. What were we gonna. What were we about to say before I did the. [00:10:54] Speaker A: Oh. Oh. [00:10:54] Speaker B: I had a new list. I was at a party the other night. [00:10:57] Speaker A: Oh, yeah? [00:10:57] Speaker B: Yeah. I was invited to a party. [00:10:59] Speaker C: Full life. [00:10:59] Speaker B: I have a full life. And some people invited me to a party. I said, sure, I'll go. And I ran to a woman by the name of Janelle Rooter who was traveling domestically recently and listening to a podcast. And when her podcast ended, somehow in the queue, our podcast was next. [00:11:19] Speaker A: All right. [00:11:19] Speaker B: And she's like, I listened to it and I listened and I listened to the whole thing, and I said, she doesn't talk like that. But then I said, well, which one was it? You said, oh, I don't. [00:11:31] Speaker D: I don't know. [00:11:32] Speaker B: I go, yeah. [00:11:34] Speaker A: Did she say she liked it? Yeah. [00:11:37] Speaker D: No, I don't know. [00:11:38] Speaker B: I don't know that she said it. [00:11:39] Speaker A: I didn't know. [00:11:40] Speaker B: Do you like it? She just wanted me to know that she listened. [00:11:43] Speaker A: It came on, and I couldn't reach my phone, and I listened to the [00:11:46] Speaker B: whole thing, and I just let it play. Yeah. So thank you, Janelle. [00:11:49] Speaker C: Was she staring awkwardly at a plate of cheese and crackers? [00:11:52] Speaker B: Listen, she brought this up. I didn't bring it up. [00:11:55] Speaker A: Up. [00:11:55] Speaker B: She wanted to tell me about it. So there's an. There's another listener. Do you guys have any from Osaka? No. Oh. Because we do have quite a few listeners in Japan. Do you guys know of any new listeners out there you want to say hello to? [00:12:09] Speaker C: I stopped plugging it. [00:12:12] Speaker A: My sister told me that she. She doesn't have any notifications set up on her phone, but every once in a while, every Wednesday, she'll get a notification. She'll go, what the. What is this to us? Yeah, just say, oh, it's the episode. I don't have that. [00:12:22] Speaker C: I told you. It's the same three o' clock hot spot. [00:12:25] Speaker A: Yep. [00:12:25] Speaker C: We're sitting right in the sweet spot. [00:12:27] Speaker B: I thought we were going to put it. Release it earlier because. [00:12:29] Speaker C: No, you said. But I ignored you. [00:12:31] Speaker A: Okay, [00:12:34] Speaker B: well, I Was thinking on the way here, we're in season three. We got to be almost close to the end of season three. Yeah. [00:12:40] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know how many episodes of season three. [00:12:42] Speaker C: Pull up the spreadsheet. [00:12:43] Speaker A: Yeah, let's see. Okay. This says we now. [00:12:44] Speaker C: That's the one from 12 weeks ago. [00:12:47] Speaker A: We've done new figures. Episodes and season. Season three. [00:12:50] Speaker C: I just updated the. The online. [00:12:53] Speaker A: We haven't even started season three. [00:12:55] Speaker B: We're deep into season three. [00:12:57] Speaker A: We're doing Pat and Oswald today. [00:12:59] Speaker B: We'll see season three. [00:13:02] Speaker A: No, this is just a very old sheet. [00:13:03] Speaker B: All right. [00:13:05] Speaker C: I could bring up Google Drive, but it's gonna take a bit. [00:13:08] Speaker A: Yeah, we don't need more dead air on this podcast. [00:13:10] Speaker B: But what I want to make mention of is the fact that, like, we were talking about some other podcasts that we. We know of, and I don't think anyone's more prolific out there in the podcast world than us. We don't miss. [00:13:22] Speaker A: We are the most prolific. [00:13:23] Speaker B: We just keep churning out episodes. Boom. You never miss. No one's ever gonna miss an episode. Every week, there's a new episode coming in. [00:13:29] Speaker D: Bang, bang. [00:13:30] Speaker A: And other people have sponsors and listeners and all these reasons to do it, and we just keep doing it anyway. [00:13:35] Speaker B: Yeah, we're doing it. [00:13:35] Speaker C: He's trousering all the Begain stuff. [00:13:37] Speaker B: Yeah, I got begain on board. [00:13:39] Speaker A: Yeah, Start spreading the wealth over there. Mr. O'. Donnell. [00:13:43] Speaker C: It's all high end. [00:13:45] Speaker A: Mr. $700 sunglasses. [00:13:47] Speaker B: Regular glasses, $700 eyeglasses. I'm wearing. [00:13:50] Speaker A: Yeah, they were [00:13:54] Speaker B: all right. Well, I don't know if I'm gonna make it through this episode without fainting. [00:13:58] Speaker A: Why? [00:13:59] Speaker B: Because it is so, so, so hot. Is there anywhere to bring air into this room? [00:14:04] Speaker A: We could just open the door. [00:14:06] Speaker B: Wave that door back and forth. Christ, it's like a fart locker. [00:14:09] Speaker A: Does that really work? [00:14:10] Speaker B: Sure. [00:14:11] Speaker C: It's not that bloody warm. Jesus, grow a pair, man. [00:14:14] Speaker B: I think. I'm not well. I'm exhausted. [00:14:16] Speaker C: All right, so we're. Today, we are taping the eighth episode of season three. [00:14:25] Speaker B: That's it. Oh, we're not near it. Season three is 27 and two. [00:14:29] Speaker C: Holmes, Trager, Murphy, Segura, Berlin, Armisen, Tomlinson, and today's Tign. Well, I got. I got more on the agenda. [00:14:40] Speaker B: Yeah, go, go. [00:14:43] Speaker C: I went to see Coyote versus Acme. [00:14:47] Speaker B: Yes, I wanted to see that. [00:14:48] Speaker C: Great. [00:14:48] Speaker B: It was good. [00:14:49] Speaker C: Yeah, great. [00:14:49] Speaker B: I saw my favorite comedic actor. Will Forte's in there. [00:14:55] Speaker C: Well, my. One of my favorite comedians. Did you see Baskets? [00:15:02] Speaker B: No. [00:15:04] Speaker C: With no no. Martha Kelly. No, she was one of the people. [00:15:10] Speaker B: Show basket. [00:15:11] Speaker C: She was one of the people that the Chicago Comedy Festival broke and actually went somewhere. [00:15:17] Speaker B: The Chicago Comedy Festival wrapped up in 2001. [00:15:20] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:15:20] Speaker B: And she broke out of that. Martha Kelly. [00:15:23] Speaker C: She got on Conan after that. Yeah. [00:15:26] Speaker B: I don't remember her. [00:15:27] Speaker C: No. Conan's scout enlisted her at the festival. He must have missed your set somehow. But Martha Kelly. Next thing you know, she's on Conan. [00:15:38] Speaker B: Martha Kelly. I don't remember. Was she a local? [00:15:40] Speaker C: No, no. [00:15:41] Speaker B: You brought her in. [00:15:42] Speaker C: Yeah. She's great. [00:15:44] Speaker B: Martha Kelly. She's still out there working. [00:15:46] Speaker C: The last thing she knew was baskets, where she was perfect. Oh, Kelsey knows the thing. She's in. Apparently she plays this sinister, really sinister woman in something on hbo. [00:15:58] Speaker B: Mmm. Martha Kelly. You know about this? Martha Kelly? [00:16:02] Speaker A: No, no. [00:16:03] Speaker C: I'm really, like. I've been on the fence for a couple of years. Like. Okay, should I just reach out? [00:16:07] Speaker D: Yes. [00:16:08] Speaker B: You. You launched her career again. Another launch. [00:16:11] Speaker C: Get it to the lodge. God, she was. She is, is and was funny. [00:16:16] Speaker B: Martha Kelly. I have to look her up. Does she have a special we could watch here? [00:16:20] Speaker C: I was looking. [00:16:21] Speaker B: Yeah, Well, I don't know what else you have on your agenda. I have. I feel pressure every week to bring in gifts. It's like. [00:16:30] Speaker A: It was your idea. [00:16:31] Speaker B: I know. I've been trying to stop this. It's out of control. [00:16:34] Speaker A: Then let's stop. [00:16:35] Speaker B: Let's stop. It doesn't mean you can't ever bring in gifts. You have to bring them in every week. [00:16:40] Speaker A: I like doing it anyway. Yeah. But I never feel like I have to every week. I know. You made that rule. [00:16:45] Speaker B: Oh. [00:16:46] Speaker A: Oh. [00:16:46] Speaker B: This is. [00:16:47] Speaker C: See, your gifts are so generous. I know your manhood has been waning, shall we say waning. Take this drill. Now. The missus is gonna look at you through whole new eyes today. Today you become a man. [00:17:05] Speaker B: Yeah. Man. [00:17:05] Speaker A: Do you not want to do a drill? Is this your first drill? [00:17:08] Speaker B: Who's that? Who does that? [00:17:10] Speaker A: We should do it to man. [00:17:13] Speaker C: I promise you a drill. I delivered. [00:17:15] Speaker B: This is nice. [00:17:16] Speaker A: Is this your first one? [00:17:17] Speaker B: It's my first drill. I've got a. I've got an electric screwdriver. [00:17:20] Speaker C: Yeah. Which is about as much use as an electric. [00:17:23] Speaker B: It doesn't really do much. You can't really do much with it. Listen, thank you so much for this drill. [00:17:28] Speaker C: And it's got the chuck key. [00:17:30] Speaker B: It does. [00:17:31] Speaker C: People always lose the ch. [00:17:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. You need that. Thank you. Your gifts are always so expensive and generous. I was just watching something on VHS yesterday. So you're gonna love this. Somebody gave me a copy of B Rock. Not somebody, one of our listeners. B Rock gave me a copy of 8. You know what happened on August 8, 1988? VHS, like taped with the date on it. [00:17:59] Speaker C: Some Cubs bullshit. [00:18:00] Speaker B: Yeah, the first night game at Wrigley Field. [00:18:03] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:18:04] Speaker B: And it's a. It's a copy of the entire broadcast and like all the like, news footage, the news afterwards, WG and the commercials, all that shit. It's amazing. The game actually wasn't. Wasn't finished. [00:18:15] Speaker A: That's cool. [00:18:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it got rained out. [00:18:17] Speaker C: I got a couple of films. [00:18:19] Speaker B: Films? [00:18:20] Speaker A: Yeah, films. [00:18:20] Speaker C: I got a couple of films. [00:18:22] Speaker A: We've covered that. [00:18:23] Speaker C: And it's a film. One of them had the ads in the middle. So I watched it all, you know, [00:18:28] Speaker B: it was like someone like movie of the week, like. [00:18:30] Speaker C: Yeah. Or whatever. Yeah, something like that. But then they used to throw in, in the middle of the film, there was like a. A little three or four minute news broadcast where they'd sort of rapid fire. [00:18:43] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:18:43] Speaker B: Give you a preview of the news to come. [00:18:45] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:18:45] Speaker B: Like coming up on the evening news. No, it was even back to your movie. [00:18:50] Speaker C: No, no, it was more than that. It was like three or four minutes. Yeah, like, you know, this is the top stories today. And then just like, oh, we're gonna tell you this on the news. So it's really weird. [00:19:00] Speaker B: Oh, well, news snippet. [00:19:02] Speaker C: Sorry. Anyway, I interrupted your Cubs thing. [00:19:05] Speaker B: Well, anyway, I just brought that up only to say that I'm just loving the vcu. [00:19:08] Speaker A: Are. You know, how about your, your Cubbies? [00:19:12] Speaker B: How about them? [00:19:13] Speaker A: Are you happy with them right now? They're, they're. They're back to second place. Right. [00:19:16] Speaker B: Well, they're. Yeah, the team is actually showing. Showing some weaknesses. But what do you. It's all over. Been overshadowed by the great Pete Crow. Armstrong. [00:19:25] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I've been hearing. I've been hearing a lot about him. [00:19:27] Speaker B: Any Cubs player to ever live. [00:19:28] Speaker A: Oh, really? [00:19:29] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:19:29] Speaker A: Statistically, it's. [00:19:30] Speaker B: Wow, he's off the charts. And he's more than likely to win the. [00:19:34] Speaker A: The mvp, which is good for him. MVP for pca. Yeah. [00:19:38] Speaker B: Which is. [00:19:39] Speaker C: I mean, just because he called that socks woman a slag. [00:19:42] Speaker B: You know what, that was a. [00:19:42] Speaker A: Did he really point? [00:19:44] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:44] Speaker A: When I, I was actually at the [00:19:46] Speaker B: game yesterday, I saw a woman holding a baby. Like her baby girl, like a 10 or 11 month old child. And she had on that shirt that said SFMB DB or whatever that suck. My. [00:19:59] Speaker A: What Is it? [00:19:59] Speaker B: I don't know what PCA said to the woman. It. They're selling shirts with those. [00:20:03] Speaker A: I'm not familiar with that. You're gonna give me the background of the story? No clue. [00:20:07] Speaker B: F, M, D, B Suck. [00:20:14] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:20:16] Speaker B: So they're selling a lot of those shirts. Sfmdb. [00:20:18] Speaker A: Who did he say this to? [00:20:19] Speaker B: He said it to a gal in the outfield at Comiskey. [00:20:23] Speaker A: Why was she in the outfield? [00:20:24] Speaker B: She was in, like, that patio where you can, like, drink, and, like, you're right up against the wall. Missed. He couldn't get a ball. And she's like, you suck. And he goes, sfmdb. Right. [00:20:35] Speaker A: And they got it on video. I just understood the DB part. [00:20:38] Speaker B: Too Viral Him. [00:20:39] Speaker A: That's no good. [00:20:40] Speaker B: Fan. [00:20:40] Speaker A: Oh, Jesus. [00:20:41] Speaker B: And that was a real low point for him. [00:20:43] Speaker A: When was that? [00:20:44] Speaker B: That was early in the season when they played the White Sox. [00:20:46] Speaker C: Is it Kamisky? It was one of them ones where it's like the fence is almost. [00:20:49] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:50] Speaker B: It's like. It's like a chain link. [00:20:52] Speaker A: You can tell that just by his face. You can tell he's that kind of guy. [00:20:55] Speaker B: I don't think he's like. [00:20:56] Speaker A: I look at him, I go, I know who you are. [00:20:58] Speaker B: Like a bro. [00:20:59] Speaker A: That's. I wouldn't even say that's bro behavior. It's a step above or below. Well, anyway, look at it. [00:21:06] Speaker B: He was not doing well at that point. He was. Then he had that happen. It's like this guy's, you know, went for a long season. [00:21:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:14] Speaker B: And he just turned it around, really. From that point or shortly thereafter. And has been the best player in baseball, so. [00:21:19] Speaker A: Well, maybe she did. [00:21:20] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, she. Maybe she did. And that's what. That's what kind of bolted him. [00:21:28] Speaker A: I was gonna say something. [00:21:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:29] Speaker A: What do you got? Oh, another gift for you. [00:21:31] Speaker C: I've got. Yeah. One of my favorite local yokel prints ever, called Fables by Palski Shorts. Funny. And that's a. That's a big give because I've only got a very limited amount left. [00:21:48] Speaker B: I don't have Fables. [00:21:49] Speaker C: So I asked him to sell me a load one time, and he's like, this is all I got left. [00:21:57] Speaker B: He sold them all to you? [00:21:58] Speaker C: Yeah, he sold me about half a dozen, and I've just given them away. How many are left again? I think I've got two or three left. [00:22:04] Speaker A: What inspired you to give this one away today? [00:22:07] Speaker C: I pulled one out thinking, oh, I'll put that on the gift pile. And then he's got it Already got his drill today. [00:22:14] Speaker A: The lion who feathered his hair. [00:22:16] Speaker C: Yeah, they're hilarious. [00:22:18] Speaker A: I'll read this on the train. [00:22:20] Speaker D: My. [00:22:20] Speaker A: My two and a half day train [00:22:21] Speaker C: ride coming up and I. I asked him why is the font so goddamn small? And he said because I really wanted people to be invested reading of it after. Really. [00:22:32] Speaker A: What. [00:22:33] Speaker B: What font is it like a. [00:22:34] Speaker C: It's just micro. [00:22:36] Speaker A: It's tiny. Take the copy right in the back of a pack of bubblegum. [00:22:39] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:22:40] Speaker B: How about Small and Wrong? You got any copies of Small and Wrong? I have hardcover. Well, yeah, I may have one. One too. Yeah, that's another collector's item. [00:22:50] Speaker A: Well, this is a great powski. This is a good gift. Thank you, Mark. [00:22:52] Speaker B: Yeah, we can maybe get Paski in here to talk about it sometime. Would you? Yeah, yeah. [00:22:57] Speaker C: You go for it. [00:22:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Sign that for you. I can get PA over here. [00:23:02] Speaker A: Who's that? [00:23:03] Speaker B: The author of fables? Yeah, yeah. Is Thax Douglas still alive? Thinking of poetry and powski every couple of. [00:23:11] Speaker C: Every year or so. Couple of years I'll email PA and say is that still going? Because he had the best. Best Facebook feed ever. Yeah, he used to throw up these like video finds and you know, interesting articles and then he got chased off of Facebook by the woksters and that was it. Lost contact with it. [00:23:34] Speaker B: Why is he anti woke? [00:23:36] Speaker C: No, he just. [00:23:38] Speaker B: He seemed like he would be woke. [00:23:40] Speaker C: No. You know, when woke went too woke and people there was this weird thing I found. [00:23:45] Speaker B: Where are we now with woke? [00:23:49] Speaker A: The youngsters are saying woke. They're saying woke is dead. [00:23:51] Speaker B: Woke is dead. So now it's anti woke or what? [00:23:54] Speaker A: No, it's not anti woke. It's just. It's. It's gone. [00:23:58] Speaker C: Because the thing is, to me, wokesterism was an awesome. Was, you know, an awful ploy by the right to keep stoking the woke. Again tifa. [00:24:12] Speaker B: Like how they would always talk about antifa to. To paint the liberals as like extremists and everything like that. You're saying the term woke is a creation of the. The far. [00:24:24] Speaker C: It's a. It's like a. It's a. It's a. What's it. Mechanism. What do you call it? Propaganda mechanism. Yeah, you keep. You as the right keep stoking people who were just so far out with the. And giving them the voice so that then you can go to the middle grounders and go see how fucking lunatic these people are. [00:24:45] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:24:46] Speaker C: And all of a sudden just because one person said I'm glad what's his face got Shot. What was the guy. I can't remember his name. [00:24:56] Speaker B: John F. Kennedy. [00:24:57] Speaker C: No, the Watson. [00:24:59] Speaker B: George. [00:24:59] Speaker A: Floyd. John Lennon. [00:25:01] Speaker B: George. Floyd wasn't shot. John Lennon. Oh, President Reagan, the big right wing [00:25:06] Speaker C: twat this year got shot. [00:25:08] Speaker B: Oh, Charlie Kirk. [00:25:09] Speaker C: Yeah. Just because one person said, well, I'm glad he got shot. Well, you as the right can then go to the middle. [00:25:16] Speaker B: Everybody over there thinks. [00:25:17] Speaker C: Everyone thinks this. This is what everyone thinks on the left. And it's like, well, no, you're just pulling one extreme voice. And I think the right have been always incredibly smart about presenting that to the middle and going. And vice versa and going. If you believe in the left, if you think the left are okay, this is what they stand for. And it's like, no, that's just some idiot turnabout. [00:25:43] Speaker B: Same way with the left painting the right is extreme as well. It's just polarizing politics. [00:25:49] Speaker A: Yeah. The Internet. Yeah, that's the entire Internet. [00:25:52] Speaker C: What were we talking about? Oh, so. So Thax was saying some stuff. [00:25:57] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [00:25:57] Speaker C: And he was very like, Jesus, I'm. I'm just tired of his ultra woke. And of course he runs in poetry circles, so you can imagine what happened. And I think his actual, you know, I know this for a fact. His. The comment that triggered him leading social, leaving social media was, I think in a few years time the only culture left will be black culture, which the pylon brigade took that as he thinks black people are pushing white people out, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And what he said is, is, no, what I actually meant was it's the only culture that will be relevant. White culture will be so overrun with and pointlessness. And then he said, but you all. I'm leaving. [00:26:52] Speaker B: Radio silent. [00:26:53] Speaker C: Radio silent. [00:26:55] Speaker B: Haven't heard anything since. Yeah, good for him. [00:26:57] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:26:58] Speaker B: You know, washing himself of social media. How active are you, Christian, on social media? [00:27:03] Speaker A: I don't have anything. [00:27:04] Speaker B: None. I wouldn't think so with the phone situation. What's with the phone? I haven't seen the flip. The jitterbug. Yeah. [00:27:10] Speaker A: Actually I went back to use it recently and none of my texts were coming through. And it was one of those days. Like, I don't have time for this right now. [00:27:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:17] Speaker A: I can't be messing around figuring like, okay, why aren't, why isn't it working now? And it did. It started slowing down a lot too. I don't think. I don't think those flip phones are meant for like every day if you use it a lot, you know, I think it's meant to get worn out. [00:27:30] Speaker B: And tired. [00:27:30] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, the data, like you'd hit like the menu button and it would take a few seconds to load. And at first it was right away, everything was instant. But this just started slowing down, you know, then you typing with those little buttons, you're doing the T9 and it's missing them because you can't keep up with you. And then, you know, then all of a sudden you're not getting texts and you're like, all right, screw this, I'm done. [00:27:48] Speaker B: Well, there is a whole. Have you followed any of the anti tech movement? [00:27:52] Speaker A: No, but you know what I started doing instead? I'll just turn my phone off all the way and I'll just leave it at home. [00:27:56] Speaker B: Yeah, that's a good. [00:27:57] Speaker A: Yeah, I just turn it off if I don't need it for the day, if I, if I don't have to come here. [00:28:01] Speaker B: What about your Mrs. If she's trying to get a hold of you. [00:28:03] Speaker A: Yeah, well, yeah, there's other ways. I'll message her on Gmail, you know, and I'll say I'll be checking my laptop every once in a while than that I might be out of the house, I might be gone. You might not hear from me for a while. And that's just, that's just it. [00:28:17] Speaker C: I tell my Mrs. I, I put my phone down for maybe three hours at a time and walk away from it. That did not go down well. [00:28:25] Speaker A: If you. If you what? [00:28:27] Speaker B: If you put it down and walk away from it. Yeah, she doesn't like it. She wants you accessible all the time. [00:28:34] Speaker A: Mine doesn't care at all. She actually, she kind of encourages it. She's, I'm. She's always like, yeah, go. See you. [00:28:38] Speaker B: So that tells me then that you are seeing when I text and ignoring it. Because if your Mrs. Requires that you have that phone reach at all times. You're ignoring all my texts. [00:28:50] Speaker C: I didn't give in. I said no, that's the way it's going to be. [00:28:53] Speaker B: Oh, good for you. [00:28:54] Speaker A: But if three hours and five minutes go by and you haven't heard back, then you know he's been ignoring you for a solid five. [00:29:02] Speaker B: Yeah, sometimes it's days. [00:29:03] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know. I don't ever expect really text back. Like if there's something that important, you just call the person. Right. Like a text is. I know we've talked about this a million times with different things, but it does keep it kind of evolving on these show, on this show of like what we have established as a text because I know, Mark texts more than he used to. You and I don't really ever text. We do the group chat unless it's necessary anyway. But no, I lost my whole point. It's gone. Damn. It was probably a really good one, too. [00:29:34] Speaker B: Well, do you. [00:29:36] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I remember. I feel like if I send somebody a text, I don't expect them to reply, you know, it's kind of like, here's the information. If I really need a reply, I'll call, you know? But there's no timeline. There's no point. [00:29:48] Speaker B: It has to end. [00:29:48] Speaker A: Yeah. And if somebody sends me a text, it's got to be the same thing, you know, Like, I'll read it. And here's another thing, too. Like, let's say. Let's say Mark text me. He's like, hey, I left that tool for you on the bench downstairs. Right. I'll read that. I'll have the information. I'm not gonna say. I'm not gonna say. Okay, great. Thanks. You know? Cause that's one more bling that somebody has to look at their phone, open it up, get rid of the little red dot, whatever you have. It's too much. It's too much. Just read it and move on with your life. And if. If you didn't see the text, you're gonna figure it out eventually. [00:30:18] Speaker B: Let's text less. Let's email less. [00:30:21] Speaker A: And. Yeah, and I'm so tired of. Yeah, I'm tired of the dumb flat glass screens, too. Constantly backing up, retyping. You know, it's just. [00:30:28] Speaker B: I'm with you. [00:30:29] Speaker A: Who. Whose idea? I remember the first iPhone I ever saw in, like, 2000, and I. It was my friend's dad. He had one. He was typing on it. And I'm looking at him like, how do you know what buttons you're hitting? He's like, no, you just know. And I'm watching, like, no, that's never going to work. And the first iPhone, everyone went along with it. Yeah. And it's. And it doesn't work. It doesn't work. Every time I send a text, I spend more time retyping it than I did. [00:30:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:50] Speaker A: If I just called the person, you know, it's frustrating. [00:30:55] Speaker B: You want to weigh in on this at all? No. You have nothing to say. [00:30:59] Speaker C: Talk less. [00:31:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I heard a little gurp there. [00:31:02] Speaker C: Yeah. No, I've had a sore throat. [00:31:04] Speaker A: We should get a filter on the mic. On the. On that mic. You know how they have, like. Mark, what's those boxes we were talking about getting the compressor boxes for the Microphones. They should have those for gerp. Gerp compressor. So every time you go. [00:31:17] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:17] Speaker A: It just automatically mutes it out. [00:31:22] Speaker B: So I was talking to somebody, a listener the other night, and they said that, wow, you've really started to come alive on the show. Like they said, maybe it's the weight loss, the healthy living, that, like, your spirits are really up on the show. I didn't notice it as much because, [00:31:37] Speaker A: you know, he's already on fire today. [00:31:39] Speaker C: Right. [00:31:40] Speaker B: But have you noticed an elevated mood this past month with the. [00:31:47] Speaker C: No. [00:31:47] Speaker B: Yeah, you're up. [00:31:48] Speaker C: I was thinking. I was actually thinking the other day, this. This. I've actually. This. This podcast was meant to lift me. [00:31:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:58] Speaker C: It's had the opposite effect. I'm. I'm. I feel even smugger and even more disconnected. [00:32:05] Speaker B: Oh. [00:32:06] Speaker C: A year and a half in. [00:32:07] Speaker A: Do you listen to the episodes? [00:32:08] Speaker C: No. [00:32:09] Speaker A: You just start listening to the episodes? [00:32:10] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:32:12] Speaker C: I can barely get through the edit of them, and I only have to listen to myself a tiny bit. [00:32:17] Speaker B: Yeah. You don't like hearing yourself? [00:32:19] Speaker C: No. Well, God is repellent to me. [00:32:22] Speaker B: Well, I'm sad to hear you say that, but, you know, people are noticing an elevated mood from you, which is a good sign. [00:32:28] Speaker C: All right, well, I'll put the nicks on that. [00:32:31] Speaker B: Okay, go back to being sad again. [00:32:34] Speaker A: He was whistling the other day, walking around. [00:32:36] Speaker B: You throwing out coasters? [00:32:38] Speaker A: I'm organizing. [00:32:39] Speaker B: Okay, well, let's. Let's. Let me give you what I got you. I had to get you something. Every day I've got to get you something. Like two wives. You're like, I've got two girlfriends. I've got to ask me. [00:32:49] Speaker C: You can ask for it back at the end. Like you normally. [00:32:52] Speaker B: That was one time. [00:32:53] Speaker A: Like one of those people that's like, can I get a ride home with you? And the person's like, I'm leaving. Like, I guess I gotta go. [00:32:59] Speaker B: Yes, I am. But I'm actually excited to give you this. Christian, you inspired me last week with such a nice gift of spinach pie and baklava. Yeah, I was at the. At the Mid East Market up in Andersonville, Middle east bakery this morning. Because you got to go on Mondays. That's what I. [00:33:18] Speaker A: Is that your neighborhood? [00:33:19] Speaker B: No. [00:33:19] Speaker A: So didn't cut you off? [00:33:20] Speaker B: No, that's not. I go out of the way. Mondays is when all the fresh stuff comes in from the bakery. [00:33:26] Speaker A: So you're eating this too good to [00:33:28] Speaker B: go with a nice big Syrian bread. Lovely Syrian. [00:33:33] Speaker A: I get the same. Oh, that's awesome. First breed on over Here. [00:33:38] Speaker B: It's nice. [00:33:39] Speaker A: This looks great. Oh, my God. This is soft like a pillow, like a sponge. [00:33:43] Speaker B: So what you want to do is, when you get home, just put that right in the freezer. [00:33:46] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:33:46] Speaker A: 100. [00:33:47] Speaker B: And you take one out when you want it in like three minutes. It softens. [00:33:51] Speaker C: What do they. [00:33:52] Speaker B: Syrian bread. [00:33:53] Speaker C: What do they flavor it with? [00:33:55] Speaker B: There's no flavor. Look, it's only like three ingredients. It's like flour, yeast, and water. [00:33:59] Speaker C: What's the brown stuff? [00:34:01] Speaker B: It's just from the oven. [00:34:02] Speaker A: It's a toast. Yeah, toast. [00:34:04] Speaker B: Have you ever had Syrian bread? It's like Peter bread. Well, it's Lebanese more than anything. It's like PETA, but it's very thin and soft. And so what. What you like to do is you can open it and. And have two halves of it and then put whatever you want it and make rope. Make a Syrian sub. Like, you put your meat or whatever in there. But I use it every day to put a salad in. I wrap it up. Yeah. Burrito. And have a nice salad. [00:34:29] Speaker A: That sounds good. [00:34:30] Speaker B: Beautiful lunch every day. So try that. [00:34:33] Speaker A: I'm excited. [00:34:34] Speaker B: That was a nice gift. [00:34:35] Speaker A: It was a nice gift. All right. Yeah. I. [00:34:38] Speaker B: You got a bag of something. [00:34:40] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:34:40] Speaker B: It's like hard candy. Is it salt water taffy? [00:34:43] Speaker A: No. Oh, get too excited. [00:34:46] Speaker C: All right. [00:34:49] Speaker A: It's one for each of you. They are two cornbread muffins. [00:34:53] Speaker D: Oh, good. [00:34:53] Speaker A: From. [00:34:54] Speaker B: I'll eat that right now. [00:34:55] Speaker A: From Smoke Barbecue. [00:34:56] Speaker B: Oh, smoke. [00:34:57] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:34:58] Speaker B: Did you recently have their barbecue? [00:35:00] Speaker A: I did, and I did it via Too Good to Go. Oh, I didn't know that they even had Too Good to Go. Borky lives by Smoked Barbecue. So I was in the area, and I was looking to see what was around for when I was heading home. Okay. So I saw. I'm like, oh, my God. Smoke Barbecue. So I got a $5 bag, and I stopped on my way back, and I. I'm thinking, the $5 surprise bag for $5. And I'm thinking, Smoke Barbecue. I mean, you're going to get some rib tip. They're. They're. They're like. [00:35:31] Speaker C: You're not going to get the brisket. [00:35:33] Speaker A: They're up. Exactly. They're upscale. Like, that's. It's. It's pricey barbecue for a reason, because it's such good quality. I love that place. I've ordered from there plenty of times. So I stopped by and I'm expecting a little, you know, sample of something, maybe a little, like, macaroni and cheese or something like that. And I get There. And I walk in and they disappear. I say, I'm here to pick up the two. Good to go. And they're like, oh, she's very excited. Very friendly staff. I've never been inside, always got it delivered. [00:35:57] Speaker B: You feel shame when you come into a place to say, I'm here for the Too good. [00:36:00] Speaker A: Not at all. [00:36:00] Speaker B: I'm here for the dumpster. [00:36:01] Speaker A: I feel like a hero. [00:36:02] Speaker D: You do? [00:36:02] Speaker B: Yeah, I feel shame. [00:36:04] Speaker A: No, I. I'm doing something good. So I walk in, I tell her, and she's. She says, thank you for being here, you hero. And I said, thank you for saying that. [00:36:12] Speaker D: Yeah, right. [00:36:13] Speaker A: She did. And. And then everybody. So what'd you get? Everybody clapped for me. And then. Then somebody walked out and they handed me this bag and it was £20. I'm like, what? I've hit the jackpot. [00:36:22] Speaker B: You only paid five bucks? [00:36:23] Speaker A: Yeah, I paid five bucks. I get it home, I pull it out. There's this huge container, like 6 inch tall, 4 inch wide container, like plastic Cambro container full of some sort of chili. Like, it may as well have been brisket chili. This other container full of andouille sausage and other. I'm thinking like brisket. Also gumbo. Oh, a container of rice. Oh, and three cornbread muffins. [00:36:53] Speaker B: That's a haul. [00:36:55] Speaker A: It was a haul. I text. I text Alberto about. I couldn't believe it. Everything went in the freezer right away. I'm like, this is gonna be great in January when I can't ride my bike anymore. You know, this is this. I do this every. Every year around this time, I start stockpiling all sorts of just like, you know, things that like, oh, my God, it's gonna be fantastic in the middle of February when it's miserable outside and I can't go anywhere. [00:37:15] Speaker C: Like a red squirrel, I am. [00:37:19] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:37:20] Speaker B: Alberto, fly upstairs. [00:37:22] Speaker A: Alberto's in Finland right now, so. So I text him and I said, I just got a too good to go bag. And I'd sent him a picture of everything I got. Apparently, it's the white whale of too good to go. He said, I've been trying to get smoke's too good to go bag for years, and it is sold out instantly every time. I must have gotten so lucky. As soon as they released it, I must have just happened to have tapped on it and I. Oh, my God. It was. [00:37:49] Speaker B: Have you gotten in on this Mark, this too good to go stuff? [00:37:51] Speaker C: I mean, I mentioned it to my Mrs. And she started already looking at it. [00:37:57] Speaker B: See any things you liked on There. [00:37:58] Speaker C: We just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. I. I refuse to install apps on my phone, so it's going to have to be her that initiates. [00:38:06] Speaker B: Come on, now you have apps on your phone? What. What's another app? [00:38:10] Speaker C: Yeah, I only install an app if there's a gun to my head. [00:38:16] Speaker A: Well, [00:38:19] Speaker B: I don't want it to come [00:38:20] Speaker A: to that, but [00:38:24] Speaker B: clearly. This muffin's excellent, isn't it? [00:38:26] Speaker A: Yeah. Right. So, yeah, I ate the one muffin, put the rest in the freezer. These are the two. [00:38:30] Speaker B: Now, you're not supposed to be having these carbs. I don't think. [00:38:33] Speaker A: They're not. It's corn. [00:38:34] Speaker B: From you? No. Him. [00:38:35] Speaker A: Yeah, but it's corn. [00:38:36] Speaker D: Carb. [00:38:36] Speaker A: No, it's not. It's a starch. [00:38:38] Speaker B: Starch is carb. [00:38:39] Speaker A: No, it's not. [00:38:40] Speaker C: You know, I've made a total pig's ear of eating this. [00:38:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, the one that I ate, I did the same thing. It just turned into a mess. It's gonna go that way no matter how you do it. [00:38:49] Speaker C: No, I'll just. When I get home, I'll dump it on a plate. [00:38:51] Speaker A: Yeah, I ended up just dumping in my mouth. [00:38:55] Speaker B: Where are we at with the weight loss? And when is this gonna end? [00:39:00] Speaker C: It ends at 45 pounds. [00:39:02] Speaker B: Oh, okay. So last week, what was at 24? [00:39:05] Speaker C: I'm still at 20. [00:39:06] Speaker B: Oh, you've. [00:39:06] Speaker A: You've 22. [00:39:08] Speaker B: You were 22. [00:39:09] Speaker C: Was I? [00:39:10] Speaker B: Oh, I thought maybe even a little higher, but 24. [00:39:15] Speaker A: I don't think it was 24. [00:39:17] Speaker C: 22. No. [00:39:19] Speaker A: But then didn't you say. Didn't you say also that some came back on? Because I can't remember. [00:39:24] Speaker B: Yeah, you had a bender. A jockey. [00:39:26] Speaker A: No, you fell off the wagon. The chocolate came in from Phillip the Willy Wonka. [00:39:30] Speaker C: The Willy Wonka stuff for birthday. Yeah. [00:39:33] Speaker B: You went wild. [00:39:34] Speaker C: No, I did plummet back down again. [00:39:37] Speaker A: So what are we at now? [00:39:38] Speaker B: He's at 20. It was around 20. [00:39:40] Speaker A: 20. [00:39:41] Speaker C: Yeah. Tough sledding from here on in. [00:39:43] Speaker A: Yeah. Because you're getting down to. Yeah, you've lost all the easy stuff. [00:39:47] Speaker C: Yeah, the easy stuff's gone. [00:39:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:39:49] Speaker B: Come to the Y with me. I'll put you through a regimen of exercise. [00:39:53] Speaker C: My knees, tail. [00:39:53] Speaker B: Bollocks. [00:39:54] Speaker A: Do you go to the Y? That's on Irving. I know we've talked about this before, but I don't remember if we. [00:39:57] Speaker B: I go to the Lakeview Y over on near Ashland. [00:40:00] Speaker A: I think I'm ordering. Ordering. Ordering the Y. Yeah, I'm gonna order [00:40:03] Speaker B: the Y. I want to be in a high end club, you know, like I've gone. [00:40:10] Speaker A: I've gone as a guest to some of those crazy gyms that like at the top of. A buddy of mine had a membership to a gym that was in. It wasn't that one. It was in. It was in the Sears Tower, like way at the top. He asked me if I wanted to go and I said okay. And I said, but I don't. I have to go home and get a bunch of stuff. He said, just show up. Just trust me. And I said, I don't have clothes to wear. [00:40:31] Speaker B: What club is this? [00:40:32] Speaker A: I don't remember. This is a long time ago. He said, just show up. [00:40:36] Speaker B: Club Aqua. [00:40:37] Speaker A: I showed up, they had shorts for me, they had a shirt. They had slippers to wear in the shower. They had. If I wanted to shave, they had razors. And yeah, it couldn't have been cheap. But I mean, you're doing the same thing you're doing at any y. You know, you're still on the same treadmill, right. You know, you're still. You're still on the same. Lifting the same dumbbells. You just have a view of the whole city rather than watching the view. [00:41:03] Speaker B: Yeah, it's all a distraction from actually working out. [00:41:05] Speaker A: Right? Yeah. [00:41:07] Speaker C: One up the road on Milwaukee that's run by Ex Cons. [00:41:10] Speaker A: Oh, the. The CrossFit place. [00:41:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:41:12] Speaker B: Yeah, that sounds hard. Scrabble. [00:41:15] Speaker C: They just sometimes see them running. [00:41:17] Speaker A: They're always running up and down the sidewalk. I'm always getting in their way. [00:41:19] Speaker B: CrossFit. [00:41:20] Speaker A: Yeah. Acting like I don't know. Excuse me. [00:41:24] Speaker B: Have you had that knee looked at yet? [00:41:26] Speaker C: No. [00:41:27] Speaker B: You need to have it looked at. I'm sure your missus is telling you this same thing. [00:41:30] Speaker C: No, cuz I sort of gloss over it a bit. [00:41:32] Speaker A: I've been barking up the X ray tree for a while. [00:41:34] Speaker B: What do you got going? Bad knee? [00:41:36] Speaker A: No, no, no. I've just been saying, hey, why don't [00:41:38] Speaker B: you get an X ray barking up for him? [00:41:40] Speaker A: Right? Yeah, advocating. [00:41:43] Speaker B: All right, well, before we get into Tig. Notaro. Notaro. How do you say it? Notoro. [00:41:48] Speaker A: It's. It's Notaro Notaro. Yeah, it's Tag Notaro. [00:41:52] Speaker B: Let's. Let's talk about, you know, the loss of Dolly Parton, which has happened since we were last together. How are you guys taking was fine. [00:42:04] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:42:05] Speaker B: Oh, you're not upset about it? [00:42:07] Speaker C: I did. I was telling Christian I did track down. So my dad had this three. I call it the 3D Sunday. He had three cassettes that got played every weekend. First one was Neil diamond one one, Just the Best of, then the Best of John Denver, and then a Dolly Parton one that I knew roughly had to be a compilation. [00:42:34] Speaker B: And I actually like covers or something, [00:42:35] Speaker C: but Dolly Parton had over 200 compilations she released. [00:42:40] Speaker B: What do you mean, compilations? [00:42:43] Speaker C: Yeah. No, no compilations. Oh, we'll take the best from this album. Take the best from that album. Blah, blah, blah. [00:42:49] Speaker B: That's shite. [00:42:50] Speaker C: And so she had over 200 compilations of her work. She just, you know, wiki discography, had just a thing for the compilations. And I was like, I got to work out what it was. And then, you know, I Sherlocked Holmes that. Because I was like, okay, it's got to have been a UK release, right? And I knew some of the songs and I tracked it down and I got the actual. [00:43:16] Speaker B: The one that your dad had. [00:43:17] Speaker C: Exact. And as soon as I started playing through the track list, I'm like, oh, yeah, this is it, this is it. And I was. I knew the songs even before they came. [00:43:26] Speaker B: You knew which song was next because you could just feel which song was. Yeah, you'd heard it so many times with the old boy in the car or something. [00:43:32] Speaker C: No, no, he. We had one little cassette recorder in our house, and you play it there. He would play it off of that, but it always ended with Lady Mule Skinner Blues. [00:43:45] Speaker B: Say what? [00:43:46] Speaker C: Mule Skinner Blues. It's like a famous old. You know, when country and western had a phase where it was okay. You know, like when it was like, people, women with big hair and blokes in polyester suits. Yeah, that was classic. All this shite now is pop, isn't it? [00:44:04] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't know anything about it. [00:44:06] Speaker C: Oh, I thought you'd like country and western. [00:44:08] Speaker B: I like Dwight Yokum. [00:44:09] Speaker C: Hipster value, sort of. [00:44:10] Speaker B: No, I like Dwight Yocum, like Lyle Lovitz, but I'm not versed in country music. But Dolly Parton, to me, you know, she seemed like the. Like, the Elvira of country. You know what I mean? Like, she was. She was. The music was secondary to her breasts. Right. I mean, like, as a kid, she was only known for her breasts. [00:44:38] Speaker A: Right. [00:44:39] Speaker B: That's it. [00:44:39] Speaker A: You mean when you were a kid, when you. [00:44:42] Speaker C: Yeah, you like. [00:44:43] Speaker B: It was. It was just Dolly Parton. Like, Dolly Parton meant breasts. That's it. It was just breasts. But remarkably, this is the most remarkable thing I can think of. She never bared those breasts. [00:44:56] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:44:57] Speaker B: They were covered forever. [00:44:59] Speaker A: Yep. [00:45:00] Speaker B: Like Elvira. [00:45:01] Speaker A: It's tough to do. [00:45:01] Speaker B: Who also Never bared her breasts. [00:45:03] Speaker C: Elvira, there's a load of stuff before she was famous where. It's the Full Monty. [00:45:07] Speaker B: Oh, really? [00:45:09] Speaker C: Yeah, you. You can look that up. [00:45:10] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't know that. [00:45:11] Speaker A: It's a project for later. [00:45:12] Speaker B: Is Elvira still alive? [00:45:14] Speaker C: Yeah. Cassandra Peterson is a real name. [00:45:16] Speaker B: Would you say that she is the Dolly Parton of horror movies? [00:45:21] Speaker C: I don't know because I don't watch horror movies. [00:45:26] Speaker B: But isn't it remarkable that she never bared the breasts? Dolly Parton? She must have been. Hefner must have offered her millions to bear those. [00:45:33] Speaker C: She's a cover of Playboy with the ears on, but obviously. [00:45:37] Speaker B: Yeah, she never beared them, though. The only. The only person that ever saw those breasts. Carl Dean. [00:45:43] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:45:44] Speaker B: Her husband of many years, Carl Dean. [00:45:46] Speaker A: At least you assume. [00:45:48] Speaker B: Yeah, maybe not. [00:45:49] Speaker A: Yeah, maybe she took him to the grave. [00:45:54] Speaker B: Well, [00:45:56] Speaker C: I love the movie 9 to 5. [00:45:59] Speaker A: I'm just silly yet to see it. I was actually going to watch it the other night, but. Yeah. [00:46:03] Speaker C: Cracker. [00:46:04] Speaker A: What does that mean? Funny. [00:46:05] Speaker C: Yeah, it's good. [00:46:05] Speaker A: Yeah, good. [00:46:06] Speaker B: Dabney Coleman in there, he's grabbing ass, I think throughout the film. [00:46:10] Speaker C: Yep. [00:46:10] Speaker A: When I was a kid, that was what Dolly Parton was known for too. We always knew breasts. Yeah. Like she's just got big breasts. But then I. But you know. But then you didn't. When you grew up. You didn't then start to appreciate her music and then learn about her philanthropy and. Yeah, she's a remarkable wittenisms and. And all of a sudden you, you know, your adolescence is behind you. [00:46:31] Speaker B: I know, but I. She's a remarkable woman in all those ways. It turns out she's a wonderful woman, wonderful person, human being. But unfortunately, I know nothing about her except that she has big breasts. [00:46:45] Speaker A: Really? That's it. [00:46:47] Speaker C: That's all feminist fm, where we keep it progressive. [00:46:53] Speaker B: Listen, that's how I was conditioned. Dolly Parton was the Elvira of country music. [00:47:01] Speaker D: I don't. [00:47:02] Speaker B: Just saying. [00:47:03] Speaker A: Did you know that? Did you know that not only did she write I will always love you for Whitney Houston, but she also presented her with the. The Grammy for the song. [00:47:11] Speaker B: She did. [00:47:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:47:12] Speaker C: Really write it for Whitney Houston. [00:47:14] Speaker A: She didn't write it. Okay. She. Thank you for picking the one word out of those two sentences to really focus on that mattered the most. [00:47:22] Speaker B: Yeah. That. [00:47:23] Speaker A: She wrote the song. And Whitney Houston uses. She wrote the song, sat on it for a long time, and then when she heard Whitney Houston sing, she said she can sing this song. So in a way, she did write [00:47:32] Speaker C: it for her in the movie Best Little Whorehouse, it's at the end of the film, she sings it to Burt Reynolds. [00:47:38] Speaker B: Oh, she does. What a movie. I got to see that movie. Have you seen that movie? [00:47:42] Speaker A: Apparently Burt Reynolds was pissed off and mean to everybody the whole time on Basketball. I think he was like, had just gotten divorced or something. [00:47:48] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. He was married to Lonnie. [00:47:50] Speaker C: He was. He. He turned down Boogie Nights, viewing it as Tordra. [00:47:57] Speaker B: He was in Boogie Nights. [00:47:59] Speaker C: I know. But initially they had to really convince him because that was his career comeback, wasn't it? [00:48:04] Speaker B: Yeah, I think he got an Oscar or he got nominated. I don't know if he got the. [00:48:07] Speaker A: Yeah, he was a Boogie Nights. [00:48:09] Speaker B: Yes. [00:48:09] Speaker C: But he was keeping it at arm's length, like. Oh, it seems a bit tawdry. [00:48:13] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:15] Speaker C: Anyway. No, Dolly Parton was revert. Revered in our house, and not really. Not for the zappies, England. [00:48:23] Speaker B: Not for the Zeppelins. The Zeppelins, really? [00:48:27] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:48:28] Speaker B: In England. She wasn't just known for that. [00:48:30] Speaker C: Well, she was known for anything. I'm saying in our house. My dad revered Dolly Parton, but not [00:48:38] Speaker B: because of the Zeppelins. [00:48:39] Speaker C: No, because of the. Because of this song. Because of it. Have you listened to the lyrics of her music? It's very working class, hard Scrabble. [00:48:46] Speaker A: Sure. [00:48:47] Speaker B: Nine to five. Not that nine to five before Joel. I hate Jolene. [00:48:53] Speaker A: Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. [00:48:56] Speaker C: Most of her early stuff is about being poor but being happy. [00:49:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:49:01] Speaker A: Yeah. People ask all the time. When we do our dueling pianos, there's always somebody that can sing. You know, they come like, can I sing a song? Can I just come over there and sing one song? You know, sometimes we'll say, okay, they [00:49:11] Speaker B: want to do Jolene. [00:49:12] Speaker A: Oh, my God, so many times. I'm gonna do Jolene. It's like, oh, come on. [00:49:16] Speaker B: Oh, you want to die? [00:49:17] Speaker A: This is gonna. This is gonna be the longest four minutes of the whole night. [00:49:21] Speaker C: Every woman at karaoke in England wants to sing I Will Survive. Yeah, that's like the one. [00:49:27] Speaker A: Yeah. The cake version, funnily enough. [00:49:31] Speaker C: No, the Gloria Gaynor version. The disco version. Dolly Parton's best song for me is one called Joshua. But it's very. If you listen to it, you're gonna be like, someone's channeling Johnny Cash a little bit here. Dolly. It's a very crafted. [00:49:50] Speaker B: What's it called? [00:49:51] Speaker C: Message song. It's called Joshua. [00:49:54] Speaker B: I never listen to any of her music. Anything about that. [00:49:58] Speaker C: Well, yeah, cuz you're too busy. Posh boxing. [00:50:01] Speaker A: No, come on. [00:50:02] Speaker B: There's nothing. A posh box too. Don't, don't, don't entrap me into these conversations. Well, RIP Dolly Parton. What a loss. And obviously on the same day or within 24 hours, the great Tim Curry also passed. I feel like great British legend Tim Curry. [00:50:21] Speaker C: I feel like Tim Curry got Mother Teresa in that deal because of Dolly [00:50:27] Speaker A: Parton, who died before Mother Teresa. [00:50:30] Speaker C: Who would be more famous than Mother Teresa? [00:50:33] Speaker A: Michael Jordan. [00:50:34] Speaker C: No. Who's still Princess Di. Princess Di died either the day before or two days before Mother Teresa. [00:50:42] Speaker B: And nobody cared about Mother Teresa and everyone. It's just like, well, Mother Teresa would have it no other way. She wanted no attention. [00:50:50] Speaker C: Yeah, right. [00:50:51] Speaker B: So maybe it was divine that it happened that way. Tim Curry. [00:50:56] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:50:56] Speaker B: I don't know. Would the world have, you know, really wept for 80 year old Tim Curry? [00:51:03] Speaker A: I didn't know who he was when I started seeing Tim Curry had died. [00:51:07] Speaker B: He was the original it. [00:51:08] Speaker C: Really good at basketball. [00:51:10] Speaker A: That's the first thing I thought was the best. [00:51:12] Speaker B: Tim Curry. Oh, Mark Curry from hanging with Mr. Cooper. I like the background. If you don't think of Tim Curry. [00:51:21] Speaker C: Rocky Horror, when you think of Tim Curry. [00:51:24] Speaker B: Yeah, Rocky Horror. Clue. [00:51:27] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:51:27] Speaker B: What else? It. The TV version of it. He was the original it. [00:51:32] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:51:33] Speaker B: He was quite good at it. Tim Curry, British legend. Who's he from? Mank. [00:51:40] Speaker C: Nah, it sounds Londony to me. [00:51:42] Speaker B: London, yeah. [00:51:43] Speaker A: Do you know who this is that I'm playing right now? [00:51:46] Speaker B: This is the. The stylings of Billy Joe. [00:51:50] Speaker A: No, no. [00:51:51] Speaker B: Charles Mingus. This is Mingus. [00:51:56] Speaker D: Right. [00:51:56] Speaker B: This is Coltrane. [00:51:58] Speaker A: H. John Benjamin. The guy from Bob's Burgers. He came out with an album called well, I Should have Learned to Play the Piano in which he hired a whole bunch of studio musicians to play jazz with him. And he plays an instrument that he doesn't know how to play, which is the piano. [00:52:20] Speaker C: I don't hear it. [00:52:20] Speaker A: All I hear is that he's taking a break. [00:52:23] Speaker B: That's standup bass. All right, well, who are we here to. [00:52:27] Speaker A: Oh, it's a segue. [00:52:29] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a segue. To Tig. Notaro. Nataro. I want to thank you before we start one, one other thing for helping me put on the Tom Kite license plate. [00:52:41] Speaker A: I had to go over Gary's house. [00:52:42] Speaker B: He let me come. No, it's on. I got the Tom Kite plates on my car. [00:52:47] Speaker A: That's exciting. [00:52:47] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:52:48] Speaker A: Has anybody seen anything yet? [00:52:51] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:52:51] Speaker C: Someone left a note on your window. [00:52:53] Speaker B: Not yet. Somebody texted me though. When did you get those? Plates not getting as much attention as I thought to have Tom Kite plates. But yeah, they're on. We had to drill some holes to get them on. You already knew what to do. [00:53:08] Speaker A: That's good. [00:53:09] Speaker B: Yeah. And I have my own drill now. I'm not gonna be able to. [00:53:11] Speaker C: Yeah. Call you to leave me the f alone. [00:53:15] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't have any bits though. I need bits for the drill. Where do I get them? [00:53:21] Speaker A: I might have some extra ones. [00:53:22] Speaker B: All right. Well, Mark, you chose us. [00:53:27] Speaker C: This sounds like the theme to Frasier. Turn it off. [00:53:38] Speaker B: One of the last performances I did at the lodge was his Kelsey Grammer as Kelsey Kelsey Grammar stand up. [00:53:45] Speaker A: I just like to take what people [00:53:47] Speaker B: and do stand up as that. [00:53:48] Speaker A: What did Kelsey Grammar have just said? [00:53:50] Speaker B: He was just name checking all the people from Cheers. Who could forget John Ratzenberger who played Cliff And I go through all the people on the show. I didn't really have anything. [00:54:02] Speaker A: Was Frazier on TV at the time? [00:54:04] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, he was still kicking. Who could forget Eddie Lebeck? [00:54:11] Speaker C: That was a character. [00:54:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Jay Thomas says Eddie lebeck. [00:54:17] Speaker C: Do you know John Cleese did a one off appearance on Cheers? You remember that? [00:54:22] Speaker B: Sort of. What? What's wrong over there? [00:54:26] Speaker A: I just forgot something. I just got the text. [00:54:28] Speaker B: About what? [00:54:29] Speaker A: All games have been canceled tonight. Our. Our playoff game for Lincoln Loud Cottages. No. Have been canceled. This is our playoff. And if they do it next week, I'm not going to be here next week. I'm not going to be here next Monday. Oh, I'll be on a train coming back from San Francisco to Chicago. So this is a problem. [00:54:49] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm sorry to hear that. [00:54:50] Speaker C: Jeff. That one isn't it. [00:54:52] Speaker B: You got Jeffed. [00:54:53] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:54:53] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, hopefully you can carry on with [00:54:56] Speaker A: this show if I missed the playoff game. No, I'm. [00:54:59] Speaker D: I get. [00:55:00] Speaker A: No, I'm telling them we're doing the playoff game when I get back. I don't know. They've canceled three or four games and they control the weather. [00:55:06] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. That means we're not doing this next week. [00:55:09] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:55:09] Speaker B: Oh, you're not here next week. [00:55:10] Speaker A: No, not. [00:55:11] Speaker B: We don't have any extra in the [00:55:12] Speaker C: can we do we have one. [00:55:14] Speaker A: We got one. But yeah, I can also. We'll talk about it after. I can. I'll be back in time to do one before. [00:55:19] Speaker B: All right, well, let's talk about who brought us here today. Tignataro, Tig. Notaro. Tig. Tig. Nitaro and Gary chose this one to gaslight me. [00:55:32] Speaker C: No, as always, take Notaro is a Close friend of mine. [00:55:36] Speaker B: You are kidding. [00:55:37] Speaker C: We're practically best buds. [00:55:39] Speaker B: No. [00:55:40] Speaker C: So let me even know. Tig Notaro, 1999. It's the fourth year of the famous Chicago Comedy Festival. [00:55:48] Speaker B: 1999. [00:55:49] Speaker C: At that point. [00:55:50] Speaker B: You weren't involved in it before this? [00:55:51] Speaker C: Yes, I was. [00:55:52] Speaker B: Sure. [00:55:53] Speaker C: I came in on the second year and I'm running car stuff. And I'm a general gopher at this point because we're, you know, spread thin. So I first picked Tignitaro up from o' Hare and drove her to Chicago. And we instantly hit off. [00:56:09] Speaker B: Really? She's in the backseat or the front seat? [00:56:12] Speaker C: On the front seat we hit off. [00:56:14] Speaker B: Ford Festiva used to have. [00:56:15] Speaker C: Yeah, exactly. Chit Chan away. And then throughout the festival, every time she would see me, we would have another convo about something. [00:56:24] Speaker B: This is 99. [00:56:25] Speaker C: This is 99. And the. The rap party. I spent most of it just standing outside Zany's talking to her. [00:56:34] Speaker D: Really? [00:56:34] Speaker C: And she asked me if I knew where all the good lesbian bars were in Chicago. [00:56:38] Speaker B: And did you? [00:56:40] Speaker C: I just said, you'll have to go to Andersonville. [00:56:42] Speaker B: Yeah, the Middle east market up there. [00:56:44] Speaker C: Topping Slicker. But yeah, so I'm basically her best mate. [00:56:50] Speaker B: Okay. So that. That. Did you ever talk to her after that? [00:56:52] Speaker C: No, but I'm sure she remembers. [00:56:57] Speaker B: I was hoping for more. Yeah, but I didn't realize she was in that festival. Who else? Who are the other names of the 1999 Chicago Comedy Festival? [00:57:07] Speaker C: I can't name by year. I can just name people I drove from the airport. [00:57:11] Speaker B: Who? [00:57:11] Speaker C: Top. Top talent. Like Sarah Silver. No, we've been through this. This is a repeat. [00:57:16] Speaker B: That was. [00:57:16] Speaker C: I'm not repairing. [00:57:17] Speaker A: That's on the spreadshee. [00:57:19] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. [00:57:20] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:57:21] Speaker B: So she did well at the festival. [00:57:25] Speaker C: I don't think I actually ever saw her perform because during the festival, I'd be running hither and yawn. [00:57:30] Speaker B: Yeah, she's my age. Or she's a little older than me, I guess. [00:57:34] Speaker C: She's 55. [00:57:35] Speaker B: Oh, she's 55 now. Okay. Yeah. So she was a young kid back then. Or in her early 30s, maybe. [00:57:42] Speaker C: Well, she'd only just started out in comedy. [00:57:44] Speaker B: She was a late. Late to comedy. [00:57:46] Speaker C: Yeah. Did you. So the wiki tells me she started off as a musician. That's why she can play drums and guitar. And then she went into musical management, which took her to la. And when she washed upon the shores of la, somehow she. I don't know how she didn't tell me this, because she's my best friend. That. How she got into comedy, but at that point, it was only. It would have been 97, 98. Does she come out of the gate pretty fast for us to pick her up and say. Yep. [00:58:18] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:58:19] Speaker C: Fresh mug. [00:58:20] Speaker B: Made her a fresh mug at the time. And I. I'm guessing at the time there. There was a dearth of lesbian comedians out there. Openly lesbian comedians. [00:58:31] Speaker C: I wouldn't say Ellen. [00:58:33] Speaker B: Ellen might not have even come out at that point. [00:58:36] Speaker C: No one said there was a dearth. [00:58:38] Speaker B: No dirt. Comedy was maybe a paucity. [00:58:40] Speaker C: Comedy was still a sausage fest. [00:58:42] Speaker B: It was. [00:58:43] Speaker A: Had to be a sausage fest. [00:58:44] Speaker C: Yeah, it was really hard, you know, you just. [00:58:47] Speaker B: That's what I mean. Like, let alone being a female, but. But being a gay, openly gay female would have been like. Yeah, there was none. [00:58:55] Speaker C: It didn't seem like it. [00:58:56] Speaker B: In 99, you weren't even allowed. Was she openly gay? She was bi. Curious. [00:59:02] Speaker C: Mm. [00:59:02] Speaker B: Yeah, but back then, it was. It was like it was hidden still. [00:59:10] Speaker A: There were. [00:59:10] Speaker B: There was no known gay people in 99, male or female. [00:59:15] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:59:15] Speaker A: I mean, confirmed anywhere. [00:59:17] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, I know they exist. I know they existed, but, yeah, it was. Nobody was openly gay in 99. [00:59:23] Speaker C: Yep. [00:59:24] Speaker B: So I don't. Yeah, nobody. Maybe Liberace. [00:59:30] Speaker C: She was openly gay to me. [00:59:31] Speaker B: Okay. She was, yeah. So you like her? She was very nice to you. What did you talk about in the car? Do you remember? [00:59:42] Speaker C: Oh, just Chicago and this and that. Nothing. [00:59:45] Speaker B: Where did you put her up? At your place? [00:59:47] Speaker C: No, she was at the main hotel. [00:59:50] Speaker B: Oh, the Blackstone. The Blackstone that everybody was staying back then, was it? I think it was the Blackstone. That's still there. You all right over there? [00:59:57] Speaker A: You keep awake. Boring. [00:59:59] Speaker B: Boring you. [01:00:00] Speaker A: I'm just joking. [01:00:01] Speaker B: Like in the. Like in the special when she's at Ellen's party. We're bored. We're bored. Okay. So why did you choose her this time around, though, if not to Gaslight? [01:00:12] Speaker C: She's a big name. [01:00:13] Speaker D: Yeah. [01:00:13] Speaker C: I mean, mainly to annoy you. But there were other reasons. [01:00:17] Speaker B: She's a big name because she's such [01:00:19] Speaker C: a close friend of mine. I felt like I. Shit, you know, Cheat. [01:00:22] Speaker A: Every. [01:00:23] Speaker B: Every week we learn of another friend of yours. That. [01:00:25] Speaker C: But plus, she's always been a comedian I really liked. [01:00:29] Speaker B: Yeah. You've seen a lot of her work. Yeah. You. Have she ever done the lodge posts? Never came through. [01:00:36] Speaker C: She just got too big too fast. [01:00:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. When did she get big? What. What did you. What else you come across on the wiki? [01:00:42] Speaker C: Well, she. She was broken by the festival, of course. [01:00:45] Speaker B: Yeah. The Festival. And then when did she get her first gig? Did she ever have a sitcom? [01:00:50] Speaker C: Well, remember, she had that problem. CK Became problematic because he'd really championed her. [01:00:56] Speaker B: Oh, really? [01:00:57] Speaker C: And then he had to put distance. She had to put distance betwixt them. [01:01:02] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't know that they were. [01:01:03] Speaker C: When he's grabbing link that way. Yeah. [01:01:06] Speaker B: Yeah. I didn't know that they were linked. [01:01:08] Speaker C: No. Yeah. CK Was a big. Yeah. [01:01:14] Speaker B: Okay, so this special, Glad to Here is 2018, which we always, for the listeners, paint the picture of what was happening in 2018. Of course, you had Covid on the. On the horizon yet. [01:01:28] Speaker A: What was the name of the special? [01:01:30] Speaker B: Don't. Glad to be here. [01:01:32] Speaker C: Glad to be here. [01:01:33] Speaker B: What did you watch? [01:01:35] Speaker A: Hello again. [01:01:36] Speaker B: How was that? [01:01:37] Speaker A: It was great. Yeah. Damn it. Oh, man, I swear. [01:01:44] Speaker B: What. What year was that? [01:01:46] Speaker A: 2024. [01:01:47] Speaker B: That's more recent. You can tell us what's going on lately. We can tell you what it was like in 2018. [01:01:52] Speaker A: Yeah. I want to look back at the text and see how I fucked this up. [01:01:55] Speaker B: And in the text, you would put some smug weird out. [01:01:58] Speaker A: No, it was funny. It was a bug. It was a. It was a funny thing. [01:02:02] Speaker C: Hey. Hey. [01:02:02] Speaker A: I knew you're gonna get upset if [01:02:04] Speaker C: there's gonna be any smugness. [01:02:05] Speaker A: Yeah, smug's not my department. [01:02:06] Speaker B: Me was the right word. But you. You gave me a cheeky, like, look up here, and it was. [01:02:13] Speaker A: And I watched the Glad to be [01:02:14] Speaker B: Here, and you didn't even know it yourself. [01:02:18] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:02:20] Speaker B: All right, so 2018 is just before COVID So the world has not been been arrested by Covid yet. And, yeah, I don't know what else. Trump won. [01:02:33] Speaker A: Where was this shot? [01:02:35] Speaker B: This was shot in Houston, Texas, at [01:02:36] Speaker A: the Heights Theater, and I definitely watched the wrong one. [01:02:38] Speaker B: Yeah, sorry. [01:02:39] Speaker A: Damn, that makes sense. That's why my. My. My Segway song didn't make sense then. I'll tell you. I'll tell you. [01:02:47] Speaker B: But, you know, when I said the joke about Ellen's party, you acted like you knew. [01:02:53] Speaker A: She talks about a party in this one too, and I thought that's what you're referencing, and I thought I'd missed a line. [01:02:58] Speaker B: An Ellen DeGeneres party? [01:02:59] Speaker A: No, I don't remember whose party it was, but I was just kind of figuring that was it. [01:03:03] Speaker B: Nodding. [01:03:04] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm just going along with it. I actually don't have anything written. [01:03:06] Speaker B: Well, now that he's out, what do we do with him? We just let him sit there. [01:03:09] Speaker A: It'll be like the good old days. I didn't have to talk at all. [01:03:11] Speaker B: Yeah, Have a cigarette. [01:03:13] Speaker C: Yeah, but I'm going into a talk lockdown for five minutes, so. [01:03:16] Speaker A: You are. Let's compare. Let's compare specials, then. [01:03:19] Speaker B: We will. Okay. [01:03:20] Speaker C: You two compare, and I'll. I'm going. I'm saying. [01:03:22] Speaker B: No, no, no. [01:03:23] Speaker D: No, you're not. [01:03:24] Speaker A: You can't be on a podcast and say. I don't stop with that. [01:03:27] Speaker B: This is your pick. You gotta. You gotta do all the heavy lifting for this one. Tell us all about what you liked, what you thought about this special. Go ahead. [01:03:39] Speaker C: All right. I liked everything. [01:03:42] Speaker B: Oh, God. [01:03:44] Speaker C: Was really faultless. [01:03:46] Speaker B: You being serious? [01:03:48] Speaker C: The baby stories went. I don't really care about children and people. That was too. Like, we'd had good cats. [01:03:56] Speaker A: How many babies did she have in this one? [01:03:58] Speaker C: Two. [01:03:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. Because she talks about her sons. No, but she talks about her two sons now. Yeah, they're about six years older than a baby. [01:04:09] Speaker C: I mean, there's nothing to say too much. Everything in it was good, Baby. It was a bit labored. The ending was genius. Was a stroke of genius. It was a piece of art. Ruined only by the fact that they did come out. They did. Come on. If. If she could have ended that with them not coming on, that would have been. Would have been flawless. [01:04:34] Speaker A: Did her family come on stage? [01:04:35] Speaker B: No. [01:04:36] Speaker A: Is that what you're talking about? [01:04:37] Speaker C: No, the Indigo Girls did. [01:04:39] Speaker A: Oh. [01:04:39] Speaker B: Are you trying to hope that the special was like the one that you watched? Family. Come on. At the end of that one. Yours, I'm guessing. [01:04:47] Speaker A: No. [01:04:48] Speaker C: No, that's on it. [01:04:49] Speaker A: No, but that's. [01:04:50] Speaker C: They keep using it with Zonagar. [01:04:52] Speaker A: Okay. First of all, I'm not confusing it with Zarnagarg. That's an ongoing theme that we have noticed in three or four specials already where they bring their family on. Yeah. So there's no confusion here. [01:05:02] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. [01:05:03] Speaker A: I'm making guesses based on the past. [01:05:05] Speaker B: You're up on your hind legs, right? [01:05:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Anyway, I'm. I'm upset. [01:05:10] Speaker C: Anyway, that's the only downer of this thing. If she'd have ended without them coming on. [01:05:15] Speaker B: Let's tell Christian what happened. [01:05:17] Speaker A: The Indigo Girls came on. Yeah. [01:05:19] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:05:19] Speaker B: She kept. She did like a 15 minute bit about. And now the Indigo Girls. But wait, they're not quite ready and like. All right, you guys ready? [01:05:27] Speaker A: You really want to see the. [01:05:28] Speaker B: And they kept saying they're now you [01:05:30] Speaker A: thinking the whole time they're not really here. [01:05:32] Speaker C: But now that. But then she got you thinking, are they here? Are they not here? Are they here? And like. And she was playing with the fact she was almost sticking a finger in your. In your brain going, I know what you're thinking now. [01:05:45] Speaker A: That kind of makes sense. For the ending of this one, she did a bit where she had. You want me to tell you? [01:05:50] Speaker B: I don't want. Because I haven't seen it. I want you to ruin it. [01:05:55] Speaker A: I can mute my mic. [01:05:59] Speaker B: Yeah. I'll just sit here. [01:06:00] Speaker C: So she. She played. She. She found a note of genius and said, I'm gonna play that note again then, is what you're telling me. [01:06:06] Speaker A: Yeah. I won't tell you what happened. But she does something. And now it makes sense to me why she says, I'll bet you're thinking this to the audience who should bring out Brandi Carlisle. [01:06:14] Speaker C: So she's heightening. [01:06:15] Speaker D: Yeah. Right. [01:06:16] Speaker C: On the second go through of like, well, you saw the first one now. I'm gonna do that. [01:06:20] Speaker D: Yeah. [01:06:20] Speaker A: And I'm not gonna tell you what [01:06:21] Speaker C: happened, but it was genius. It was like she was sticking a finger in your brain going, I'm pushing you one. The only thing that ruined it was the fact that they did come out. If they hadn't. And she'd have ended it. That would have been. Or what I. How she should have ended it is done all that. [01:06:41] Speaker B: That'd be very nihilistic if she didn't bring them out. [01:06:43] Speaker C: Exactly. And I was thinking, I bet Bill's. Actually. I was like this bit. [01:06:47] Speaker B: I was. And then, like you, I hated it that they came out. [01:06:50] Speaker C: So what she should have done is what? Not had them come out. Walked off the stage in dark. Like, dim the lights on stage, have them wander on and be like, what the fuck? And then walk off again without saying anything. That would have been it. [01:07:06] Speaker B: That would have been great. Not brave enough. Not brave enough for that kind of comedy. [01:07:12] Speaker C: She just pandered to the crowd by bringing them on, having them do a song. Yawn. [01:07:17] Speaker B: Yeah. That was. [01:07:18] Speaker C: Come on, you had. You had greatness right in the palm of your hand. [01:07:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:07:23] Speaker C: And you let it slip. [01:07:24] Speaker B: Take a risk. [01:07:25] Speaker C: You know, I'm still a. I'm. I'm still friends with her. I do want to stress that, but. Yeah, I, I. [01:07:31] Speaker B: Nobody's questioning that. [01:07:32] Speaker C: When she was doing that bit, I was thinking, I bet even Bill's liking it. For all his prejudice and hatred that he's carried into this, he's liking this. Was I right? [01:07:45] Speaker B: Yes, I did like that until I didn't. [01:07:53] Speaker C: Because it was virtually nihilistic. [01:07:55] Speaker B: Which it could have been. [01:07:57] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:07:57] Speaker B: Could have been great like you said, but it wasn't. [01:08:03] Speaker C: Well, about all the children. Shite. You must have liked that. You could have related a lot of [01:08:08] Speaker B: stuff about the babies. Yeah, that was pretty good. I. You know what I didn't like? And maybe Christian, she does this in. In the special that you watched. That wasn't the one that we watched. She constantly says the names of her wife and her children. [01:08:22] Speaker A: I don't like Stephanie, Max and Finn. [01:08:24] Speaker B: Yeah, over and over. She must have said their names 50 times each. I don't want to hear their names. That's too personal. Say my kid. My kid is like my wife. Like Henny Youngman. Henny Youngman didn't say my wife. Marlene. You just said my wife. [01:08:42] Speaker C: But you know why I think that is? Because I think Tig Notaro has a very dedicated fan base and they want to hear us say it. [01:08:51] Speaker B: They want to feel like they're part of the intimate circle. [01:08:54] Speaker A: She does start this one talking about her wife and saying. She said a lot of you might be more familiar with my wife than you are with me. What is. [01:09:02] Speaker B: What is the wife? [01:09:03] Speaker A: I guess she's gone on to big fame. [01:09:05] Speaker C: Yeah, she's an Emmy award winning writer. [01:09:08] Speaker B: Of what? [01:09:08] Speaker A: Yeah, she's been on. I looked it up. I don't remember anymore. But yeah, she's been on the great show Blue Bloods. [01:09:13] Speaker B: Tom Selleck. [01:09:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:09:15] Speaker C: Yeah. She wrote most of Blue Bloods and directed. [01:09:17] Speaker B: Her and Mick Bettencourt working on that serial drama. [01:09:20] Speaker A: Matter of fact, her. And no joke, her wife did direct the one that I watched. [01:09:24] Speaker B: Really? Because the one that we watched, Tig Notaro was the director and the writer, directed, produced. [01:09:32] Speaker C: How did you feel about Ellen having a hand in it, given your hatred of her? [01:09:37] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:09:38] Speaker B: Not a big fan of Ellen. No, I'm on record with that. I think episode four of this program, [01:09:47] Speaker A: Episode eight, as a matter of fact. [01:09:49] Speaker B: Episode eight. All right, well, I want to see how we can work Christian in here, considering he didn't watch it, but he did watch something of hers. Did you like what you watched? [01:10:01] Speaker A: Yeah, I was kind of interested to see how this was going to go, because I remember. Was Tignataro at one point part of the Conan o' Brien family tree? [01:10:09] Speaker B: I don't know. [01:10:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:10:10] Speaker B: Was she? [01:10:11] Speaker A: Because I don't. [01:10:12] Speaker B: What is her family tree? [01:10:13] Speaker A: I don't remember why, but I. I know when I was. When I was a youngster and I was first getting into comedy and I was first introduced to Tignataro 20 plus years ago. Right. That sounds about right. Yeah. She's been doing it that long. I was instantly a big fan. [01:10:29] Speaker B: You are? [01:10:29] Speaker A: Yeah. I thought she was great. What do you like about the Gate? I liked the way she would speak, and I liked it. Her stage presence and I liked her joke writing. I just thought she was. I saw something there, and then I hadn't heard anything from her in a long time. Oh, you know what I think I'm thinking about? I think then Conan did something when she had cancer. [01:10:48] Speaker B: Tig Notaro had cancer. [01:10:50] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:10:51] Speaker C: She alluded to a mastectomy in the act. [01:10:54] Speaker A: Yeah. And I think Conan o'. Brien. [01:10:56] Speaker B: I know she said she couldn't breastfeed, but I didn't know that that was an allusion to the. [01:11:01] Speaker A: Yeah, she had a really rough go of it. And then I think some. Some special or something. I saw she had breast cancer. Yeah. And obviously it wasn't funny. It wasn't supposed to be funny, you know, and so I thought, oh, I wonder if she's just not really doing comedy anymore or what. The deal is I hadn't heard her name in for years until Mark recommended this special. So I was very interested to see how, you know, Tig Notaro, somebody I've known of for so long, what she's up to now. And she started off with, as I alluded to before, with the Czarnagar, etc. With Leanne Morgan and the other comics that would focus so much on their family. She started right out of the gate with. She said, also my wife directed this, which now, had I seen the previous special, would have made more sense. But this going in cold, I thought, oh, boy, here we go. This is going to be about a family the whole time. You know, it's like, who cares? It's a lot of family. Tell a joke. You know, I don't. I don't. [01:11:59] Speaker B: But bits interact. [01:12:01] Speaker A: But. But I will say 15 minutes later, after I was 15 minutes in, I realized I was way off. I was way off on my assumptions. In the beginning. I was very enthused to find that she still has the. The same charm and talent and has not allowed any of her skills to be eroded over the years. She still has that same twinkle in her eye that drew me to her in the beginning, decades ago. [01:12:42] Speaker B: You sound like very much a fan. [01:12:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. And she carried it all the way through. Yeah. And then she had a. It was another creative ending, which. Which I very much appreciated. [01:12:51] Speaker B: Well, maybe when you get to choose the next special today, you'll choose the one that you just watched and we could watch that. [01:12:57] Speaker A: Yeah, back to back. [01:12:58] Speaker B: Notaro take. [01:13:00] Speaker C: Notaro was in army of the Dead, which was a weird. Like an action. [01:13:03] Speaker B: Army of the Dead Evil Dead movie. [01:13:06] Speaker C: Yeah, like a Dave Bautista zombie flick. [01:13:09] Speaker B: That's what I want to know about taking Notaro. So she, you know, over the past 30 years, what, what brought her to fame? Was it just stand up or did. Was she in a show or a movie or what? [01:13:19] Speaker C: She replaced Chris Delia when he got cancelled prior to the thing being filmed. [01:13:25] Speaker B: Who's Chris Delia? [01:13:27] Speaker C: He's a comedian that got in trouble for a little the age of his. His conquest, shall we say. [01:13:37] Speaker B: But she replaced him on what? [01:13:39] Speaker C: Army of the Dead. [01:13:40] Speaker B: Oh. But was she ever in anything big? Any big show? Like two girls in a pizza place? [01:13:45] Speaker C: No, I don't think so. Or she was a professor. She was a voice in Beavis and Butthead universe. [01:13:52] Speaker B: I love that film. [01:13:54] Speaker C: She's just in. She's been in bits and bobs, but she's never really. You know what I mean? To the great unwashed. [01:14:01] Speaker B: Who do you think makes more dough? [01:14:02] Speaker D: Her [01:14:05] Speaker B: wife. [01:14:05] Speaker C: Her wife. My wife's got a very stacked resume. [01:14:10] Speaker B: Okay, okay. All right. Well, here's my feelings about Tig Notaro. Number one. I never wanted to like her all these years. And when you announced that we were watching her, I was not excited because I didn't want to like Tig Notaro. I don't like the name Tig Notaro. I don't know what nationality it is. I. [01:14:38] Speaker A: It's a. [01:14:39] Speaker B: If I learn a new name, right? Like if somebody has a name that I've never heard at this point in my 50th year. [01:14:47] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:14:47] Speaker B: Then. Then that's. That's just strange. [01:14:50] Speaker A: How'd you feel about Finn then? [01:14:52] Speaker B: Finn? I know that name. [01:14:53] Speaker A: I've never heard that before. [01:14:55] Speaker B: But if you have a name that I've never heard, then this something off. And I don't like nickname for what [01:15:02] Speaker C: her real name is Matilda. [01:15:04] Speaker B: Really? I don't like the nick. I don't like the name Tig. [01:15:11] Speaker C: It's good. It's punchy. [01:15:14] Speaker B: I don't like it. And what is Nataro? What? What is that, Italian? [01:15:19] Speaker A: I don't know. I had a buddy named Josh Nata when I was growing up. I don't know what he was. I don't think he'd see what he is. [01:15:25] Speaker B: Yeah, I need to know what you know. [01:15:27] Speaker A: Anyway, I can't type on this screen. [01:15:29] Speaker B: I didn't like her. Look, I didn't like her name. I didn't you know, I'd seen bits and bobs of her act over the years. Scrolling, and I don't like it. And so sitting down, I didn't. I didn't want to like this and I didn't. It was not good. [01:15:50] Speaker C: Were you trying to build it up there? [01:15:52] Speaker B: I thought. Yeah, I was trying to get. You think that I would be like. But wow, was she great. [01:15:56] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:15:56] Speaker B: No, I don't care for it. [01:16:02] Speaker A: End of the podcast. [01:16:04] Speaker B: All right. [01:16:04] Speaker D: Have a good week. [01:16:05] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:16:08] Speaker B: What are we watching next? No, I'll say this. I'm being facetious. I like her dry, acerbic witness. I like her deadpan, mostly deadpan delivery. She's very dry, dry humor. I like that. And she is a good joke writer. I agree with that as well. So, I don't know. I like. I. I want to hate her, but I don't. I think she's talented. I like the way she dresses. I like her casual approach. [01:16:39] Speaker C: You know, it's just her gender and sexuality. I don't. I don't know. [01:16:44] Speaker B: I don't think so. No. No. But there's something I don't like here. I don't. I don't know what it is. [01:16:53] Speaker C: Did she dish you in the green room? Is this another Armisen situation? [01:16:57] Speaker B: I wasn't in 99. I was in 2000, so I didn't. I didn't bump into her. [01:17:02] Speaker C: Beat you to the fresh mugs. [01:17:03] Speaker B: Beat me to the fresh mugs. But, yeah, I don't. I didn't hate it. I didn't hate this really. But I. I just kind of watched it like this, like. And I want to laugh. And the only time I kind of laughed was when she did that joke about we're bored. Nothing else really made me laugh. So I don't know. [01:17:30] Speaker A: Do you think. Do you think you're ever going to watch another Tignataro special? Let me. Yeah, okay. If you don't, at least watch the clip from the one I watched from. Hello, again. Just type in the make believe lounge. Type that in on YouTube. Just watch that clip. That was the best. That was my favorite part of this whole special. I was really looking forward to talking about it. It's a great bit, but. [01:17:52] Speaker C: Well, let's merge the ranking at least. If we can't merge the reviews. [01:17:57] Speaker A: Right. [01:17:57] Speaker C: Well, have you got anything to say on the one that you saw? [01:18:00] Speaker A: Well, I don't want to spoil anything in case you go and watch it. [01:18:04] Speaker B: He loves. [01:18:05] Speaker C: Well, he's not gonna. [01:18:06] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm talking to you. [01:18:07] Speaker C: I'm Gonna have to watch it anyway because she's my best mate. [01:18:09] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:18:10] Speaker C: He's not gonna watch it, so. So you're not gonna ruin. [01:18:12] Speaker A: After you watch it, we'll have a talk. [01:18:14] Speaker C: All right? [01:18:15] Speaker B: But here's the thing. I. I started watching this last night. I fell asleep halfway through on the couch. Then I got up this morning, watched the other half, I think, like you said, either a couple weeks ago or whatever. Like, I'm just getting sick of all the standup, you know. [01:18:31] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:18:32] Speaker B: Aren't you? [01:18:32] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:18:33] Speaker B: Like, I don't care. I don't want to hear it. I don't, you know, like, especially excited about would. [01:18:39] Speaker C: What? [01:18:40] Speaker B: What's wrong? [01:18:40] Speaker C: Tom Seguero. I don't want to see Tom Segueira. [01:18:43] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't want to see Tig Notaro or whoever you've got queued up next. [01:18:47] Speaker A: I didn't think I was gonna want to see Tig Notaro, but I was, like I said before, very happy to find out. I watched. I watch it at 7:30 in the morning today. [01:18:54] Speaker B: You did? [01:18:54] Speaker A: Yeah. I woke up in this. First thing I saw. [01:18:56] Speaker D: Salmon. [01:18:57] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:18:57] Speaker B: Was salad. [01:18:58] Speaker A: Yeah. Eat my salmon salad. Watch Tig Notaro. [01:19:01] Speaker B: And you laughed out loud. [01:19:02] Speaker A: I did, yeah. Well, you watched a different special. [01:19:04] Speaker B: Maybe it was better. But I don't care anymore about any of this. [01:19:09] Speaker A: Well, it's an odd thing to be doing every week. [01:19:12] Speaker B: Last episode. [01:19:13] Speaker A: Maybe it is, but I wrap it up. Well, no, we got one more. Because I spent so much time picking the special for next. [01:19:19] Speaker C: We do the ranking first. How many? How many? And you won't get this reference. How many kitten ribbons? [01:19:27] Speaker B: That was a good bit. That was funny. [01:19:30] Speaker C: Kitten. [01:19:31] Speaker B: I didn't laugh, but it was funny. Kitten ribbons. [01:19:33] Speaker C: How many? [01:19:34] Speaker B: She calls it something else, like night night ribbons. Night night ribbons. Yeah. [01:19:38] Speaker C: How many night night ribbons? [01:19:43] Speaker B: How many Car. Cars. Oh, God. How many night night ribbons? [01:19:48] Speaker C: Well, car cars. Brings us back to Dolly. [01:19:51] Speaker B: Yeah. Are you surprised, though, that Dolly never bared those, that nobody ever saw them? [01:19:58] Speaker A: I am. I'm right. I mean, if it was somebody else, maybe, but it's Dolly Parton. She's. She seems like she's. [01:20:05] Speaker B: It'd be like John Holmes never having. [01:20:07] Speaker A: I feel like with Dolly Parton, I'd be surprised if somebody had had. Yeah. [01:20:11] Speaker B: What? [01:20:11] Speaker A: Because she just seems so careful and above that. [01:20:14] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. But John Holmes never. [01:20:19] Speaker C: She told SNL she wouldn't cuss and she wouldn't do anything about Jesus. [01:20:23] Speaker A: Yeah. Her whole Persona is squeaky clean. [01:20:27] Speaker B: Squeaky clean. [01:20:29] Speaker A: She must have worked really hard to keep it that way. [01:20:31] Speaker B: But would you say that she. She used her breasts to gain celebrity? [01:20:37] Speaker A: I don't think so. [01:20:38] Speaker C: No. [01:20:39] Speaker B: You think the breasts were just there and, like everybody else, made a big deal about him. And I see a person she was just kind of hiding. [01:20:46] Speaker C: I see a person she never flaunted. I see a talent. I see a dream. [01:20:51] Speaker A: I think her breasts probably brought her down. [01:20:53] Speaker B: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah. [01:20:56] Speaker C: She should have had the back. [01:20:57] Speaker B: She made her very down to earth. [01:20:58] Speaker C: Should have had the surgery. [01:21:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:21:01] Speaker C: Women do. [01:21:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:21:02] Speaker C: Remember that episode of Roseanne where Roseanne elected to have breast reduction and then she has a nightmare that they've actually made them bigger? No, that was a classic. That was one of the best Roseanne episodes ever. [01:21:16] Speaker B: That'd be a good pick. Let's do some Roseanne [01:21:21] Speaker A: anyway. [01:21:22] Speaker C: All right. How many Night Night ribbons out of 5? Go. [01:21:29] Speaker B: Two and a half. [01:21:32] Speaker C: All right, I'm going four. [01:21:34] Speaker B: Four Night Night ribbons. [01:21:35] Speaker C: Yeah. What. What scale are you picking from your specific. [01:21:41] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm gonna go with. I'm trying to remember what she says. [01:21:45] Speaker B: You don't get a different scale, but [01:21:47] Speaker A: we don't know what I do. I watched a different special. I'm gonna go with how many. How many shuffling down the hallways? Do I give it? How many shuffles down the hall, down the hallway? Yeah, how many shuffles? I give it four out of five shuffles down the hallway. [01:22:04] Speaker C: So you're in the minority again. [01:22:06] Speaker B: That's fine. [01:22:06] Speaker C: You're wrong. We're right. [01:22:09] Speaker B: Listen, I'm not gonna argue this one. Going to the mat like I did on that piece of Armisen special we watched. But you know, that. Why all these specials that we're watching. And this is similar. Armisen was, like, around this time, 2019 or something. Right. They got to bring out some musical act. Right. To tie into, like, oh, I love the Indigo Girls. Here they come. Oh, and then Armisen with all his favorite drummers bringing them all. Why does it have to be so much music? Tie in on these. Feel like we've seen that quite a bit. [01:22:39] Speaker C: Yeah. We should go back to, like, Adam Sandler where it's just straight stand up. [01:22:46] Speaker B: You're being facetious. Yeah, because he plays music. But. And he bought out who he plays songs, though. What? [01:22:55] Speaker C: I thought he bought someone out when he did his last special. [01:22:58] Speaker B: What do you mean, bought or brought somebody up? [01:23:00] Speaker C: Yeah, he did play along with him. Keyboardist to someone. [01:23:03] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. He has somebody in the band. Yeah, yeah, in his band. He's a musical act at this point. But whatever. [01:23:10] Speaker A: Okay. All right. [01:23:12] Speaker B: All right. [01:23:14] Speaker C: That's comedy. [01:23:15] Speaker A: All right. [01:23:15] Speaker C: You now know everything you need to know about stand up comedy. [01:23:19] Speaker B: This is the end of the show. [01:23:20] Speaker C: This is the end. [01:23:21] Speaker A: Yeah, I got to announce next week's. [01:23:24] Speaker B: Okay. [01:23:25] Speaker A: All right. So speaking of Roseanne, I almost picked a Roseanne special. I went looking through really what was available. Yeah. As a matter of fact, first I was gonna pick a Steve Martin special. [01:23:35] Speaker B: Okay. [01:23:37] Speaker A: Trouble with that is I couldn't find anything streaming. Everything is only audio that's available for his early stuff, not the stuff he just did with Martin Short. However, I did find one. There was one Internet archives website that had the 1978 wild and crazy guy, but it was. It was sort of like that Ronnie Dangerfield one that we watched where it was like a little bit of stand up and then some stupid variety show. Yeah. But it wasn't. It wasn't quite a variety show. But they kept doing, like, stupid, like, little, like, voiceover sketches in between, and it was just awful. So I had to ditch that one. So I thought, okay, who else am I going with? So I thought, you know what? Roseanne Barr. I'm gonna go with the Roseanne Barr one. So I said, all right, what's. What's a good Roseanne Barr one? So I started looking stuff up, and there's one called Live from Trump Castle, which I thought, ooh, that's interesting, you know, because we know her history with Trump recently. [01:24:26] Speaker B: You're making this up. I just said we should choose Roseanne Barr. And now you're saying you were gonna choose it. [01:24:30] Speaker A: It's written right here. As a matter of fact, it's Roseanne Arnold because she was married. Tom Arnold at the time. [01:24:36] Speaker C: You were gonna say Tom Arnold. [01:24:37] Speaker A: Yep. And so then I watched a little bit of it, and it was just God awful. And. And I said, okay, well, what's the best Roseanne Barr special? They said, the one from three years prior is the one that launched her. It was the predecessor to the actual show Roseanne. It's called the Roseanne Barr Show. And so I went and looked at that, and it's okay. But she's doing this thing where she's chewing gum the whole time very loudly, you know, And I thought, I know how that sounds because I do a podcast with Bill o', Donnell, and we're not gonna wanna sit through that for an hour. So I decided against that. I finally settled on Lenny Bruce. [01:25:12] Speaker B: Oh, my God. [01:25:12] Speaker A: 1965. We're going all the way back. There's not really a name to this special. It's just called Lenny Bruce's Stand Up Special. And it's on YouTube. It's an hour long. [01:25:24] Speaker B: Send us the link. [01:25:25] Speaker A: And I'm gonna send you the link. And I did a quick little perusing of it already. Well, and I made sure there were no dumb. And it's interesting because there's old commercials in it like you were talking about earlier. Like, you know, cameras. [01:25:41] Speaker B: Lenny Bruce. [01:25:43] Speaker C: Yeah. I did that whole embarrassing thing when I first started doing Stand up, where I was like, oh, Lenny Bruce is. You know, when you're an idiot, you go, lenny Bruce is the inventor of Stand Up. And I read that tedious book that lasts about 500 pages that was written about him. And I saw Lenny, you know, the Dustin Hoffman movie. I just went over is embarrassing to think about it. [01:26:10] Speaker B: Oh, you're studying comedy. [01:26:11] Speaker A: I've heard a lot of people say stuff like. I think when I first started watching Stand up, people are always saying, you got to watch Lenny Bruce. And it was sort of the. I was the anti. I was in the anti Lenny Bruce camp because of stuff like that. Of like, well, if everyone's telling me I got to watch this guy, I don't have to watch this. This guy. Like, same thing with, like, George Carlin, etc. Yeah. So personally, I'm looking forward to going back and seeing what this guy's all about. [01:26:30] Speaker B: Well, you know, I like that you did this. I like that you're bringing us way back. [01:26:33] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:26:33] Speaker B: Like, to 19. Would you say 65. [01:26:35] Speaker A: Yeah. See what they were talking about then. [01:26:37] Speaker B: That's the earliest of anything we've watched. [01:26:39] Speaker A: Black and White. [01:26:41] Speaker B: That's kind of cool. [01:26:41] Speaker C: Might be the only one that they did manage to get. [01:26:44] Speaker A: I think so. It's the only one I could find video of. [01:26:46] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:26:47] Speaker A: Everything else was audio. [01:26:48] Speaker C: I had a Lenny Bruce VHS cassette. I wonder who still got. Might be that special. [01:26:54] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I guess we're gonna find out. Excellent. It'll be like the Dolly Parton compilation all over again. [01:27:01] Speaker B: I don't know how it will be [01:27:02] Speaker A: like that, because he's gonna watch and go, oh, this is the one I had before. Oh, [01:27:09] Speaker B: all right, Mingus. I've got to make urine like nobody's business. [01:27:14] Speaker A: Wait for a good piano part. [01:27:18] Speaker C: No. [01:27:19] Speaker B: What the hell's going on? Hi, it's me, John Benjamin. All right, welcome to the second interlude of the album.
