Show Notes

Once again we jump into our time machine and go back to the 80s. This time it's to review the seminal Eddie Murphy concert movie Raw.  The episode starts with a ramble through World Cup disappointment, Flea Market disappointment and movie sequel disappointment that we hope doesn't leave you feeling disappointed. Pffffffff. You can get the movie to rent or own at your local Blockbuster: Raw  .You should watch it before listening to the review.

Theme music: El Cha Cha Man by Juanitos. Juanitos, led by Juan Naveira, is the single French rock'n'roll and soul band mixing latin soul, exotica, acid jazz, punk, vocal pop and sometimes reggae roots in the Jackie Mittoo style. They are very good.

[00:00:09] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:00:10] Speaker B: Is this. When I play this American music, does this mess with the music that you put in the, you know, beginning and end of the episode? [00:00:17] Speaker A: How about some Lou Vega? Can you get Lubega Mambo number nine? [00:00:20] Speaker B: I'd have to mess up my. [00:00:21] Speaker C: I mean, I just shuffle it on there and then fight it in at. Wherever. [00:00:25] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:00:25] Speaker B: So it doesn't. It doesn't mess with it, does it? [00:00:27] Speaker C: Do you think we get suppressed in [00:00:28] Speaker B: the algorithm, though, if we play music [00:00:33] Speaker C: because of. What's it? [00:00:35] Speaker B: Trademarks trade? Yeah, I don't think we play them long enough to do that. I think you have to play it. [00:00:39] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:00:39] Speaker B: I thought it was 30 seconds, something like that. [00:00:41] Speaker A: It's not affecting our numbers in Osaka, in Canada. [00:00:44] Speaker B: Well, that was a minute, though. I don't know. [00:00:48] Speaker A: Play something. [00:00:50] Speaker B: Jungle is coming after us. [00:00:54] Speaker A: Who's this? We're listening to Jungle. Are they a new band? [00:00:59] Speaker B: No, this is. It's an old song. Oldish. It's called Keep Moving, which is what we're doing here. [00:01:07] Speaker A: I love how Eddie Murphy describes pantomimes how white people dance. [00:01:16] Speaker C: You're kind of getting ahead of it. [00:01:17] Speaker A: Yeah, that's all right. We're freeforming here. [00:01:22] Speaker B: Who are we reviewing today? [00:01:25] Speaker A: Today's comedian, comedian, comedian Ed Murphy. [00:01:31] Speaker B: Oh, he's Ed to you. [00:01:33] Speaker A: Ed, you ever meet Eddie Murphy? Eddie Murphy ever come through the Lodge? Ever perform here? No. You're Mad Eddie Murphy in your comedy travels, booking shows around the country, around the globe. Really? You've put on shows in other countries? [00:01:51] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:01:52] Speaker A: England. Yeah. Yeah. How about Spain? [00:01:55] Speaker C: No. Let me think. Did I do Canada? No. Nope. [00:02:02] Speaker B: All right. [00:02:03] Speaker A: Speaking of England, enough time has passed. We've given you plenty of time now to process and to mourn the terrible final four loss that England incurred to. Who was it? Spain? [00:02:18] Speaker C: No. Argentina. [00:02:19] Speaker A: Argentina, the dreaded enemy. Take us back to the day where you were, what you were wearing, who was around you. I tried to get in there. I wanted to watch it with you. You wouldn't even return my texts. We wanted to have a party. That wasn't gonna happen. Set the. Set the scene. [00:02:41] Speaker C: I just watched it on. I was in two minds whether to just blow it off and just deny that it was happening and just check the. Casually check the result as you do. I thought, you know what? No. This is. This is the best England team of my life. Right? [00:02:57] Speaker A: Very Kane. [00:02:58] Speaker C: They're just. They're just murdering everyone. Let's watch it. And the entire country is of one voice when they say what the Was going on in that last 30 minutes where they just stopped playing and it was ridiculous. [00:03:20] Speaker A: They're playing not to lose, it felt like. [00:03:23] Speaker C: But you know, my old man always said, best form of defense is an offense, so. But what's what? I don't even want to dwell on it that much. The entire country at this point is still saying a week later, how do we have the best attacking football team and you make them defend for 30 minutes? Complete bullshit. And what was funny is I very. I don't even go on social media, but I. Did you see the interview with Tuchel after. I think it was after the Norway match. [00:03:58] Speaker A: Is that the slap head coach? [00:03:59] Speaker C: Yeah. And he just ripped. He just ripped into this reporter and I thought it was great. [00:04:05] Speaker A: After the Argentina. [00:04:06] Speaker C: No, no, this is another game. [00:04:08] Speaker A: They'd won. [00:04:09] Speaker C: They'd won. Yeah. And in the report, I was like, Thomas, that was, you know, a performance is amazing. And Thomas, Tuchel goes, no, that was. That, that was crap. We were lucky today to win. And just I, I thought. I love that. I love the fact that the coach just went on and said the report was like, yeah, you were great. And he's like, no, we, we sucked. [00:04:28] Speaker A: That's very much on brand for you. [00:04:30] Speaker C: Yeah, exactly. That would be something I would say. And so I thought, well, this man's a genius. He's saying things I would say. So I posted about how I thought he was awesome and everything and then boom, just detonated. And it. Honestly, there would never be a better England team than that. And everyone knows it in their hearts and minds. [00:04:52] Speaker A: Better than the Beckham, Wayne Rooney teams. [00:04:54] Speaker C: Better than those. They were kind of prima donnas that this was. This should have been England's World Cup. If we'd have played Spain, I bet we could have beat them because there would have been a revenge angle that Spain beat England in the Euros two years ago. So they, if they'd have made it past the cheap RGs, they would have been like, okay, we gotta beat these guys. [00:05:20] Speaker A: Now the Argies, a lot of people say I don't follow soccer enough to know, but these guys are dirty. Save for Messi, they're all considered dirty. [00:05:27] Speaker B: I, I've. I have heard that the refs tend to bend to their, to them or [00:05:35] Speaker A: turn a blind eye, if you will. [00:05:36] Speaker B: Like, similar to like the, the Patriots. Are you familiar with the New England Patriots? [00:05:39] Speaker A: Patriots, yes. [00:05:40] Speaker B: They get away with everything it's been said. [00:05:43] Speaker A: Yes. [00:05:44] Speaker B: Yeah. But I also found out, and I wasn't aware of this after the game, I found out that they are a very racist team too. Argentina they have songs that they chant about not having black people on their team and terrible that they're proud of it, which is disappointing. And also the reaction to Spain. I'm sure we all saw the clips of them not being very sportsmanlike with their abuse towards the winning team. Physical abuse. Yeah, yeah. Argentina players putting Spain players in headlocks and tackling them to the ground as they're trying to celebrate the world. Yeah, it's just dirty. I wanted Argentina to win because of Messi, and then I found out all the sound. [00:06:25] Speaker C: No, they've always been hated. [00:06:27] Speaker B: Yeah. See, I mean, this is my limited [00:06:29] Speaker A: going back to Maradona knowledge, though. [00:06:31] Speaker C: You know, nobody's always been part of the South American game to be kind of dirty. But it's not just like, oh, I'm gonna. I'm gonna floor this guy. But then, like, there's an infamous one where Beckham got sent off because the guy absolutely just pile drove into the back of him, knocked Beckham on his ass, and then pushed his as on the ground as he went to get up. And of course, Beckham flicks his back leg out at him and the guy does the consummate soccer dive just as the ref turn. That's what the ref sees. [00:07:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:12] Speaker C: No var or anything. They've been pulling that shit for decades. [00:07:18] Speaker A: Well, as someone who doesn't watch soccer, and I think I speak for much of the country, casual sports fans that did tune into the World Cup, I was most surprised at the level of what you just described. They're flopping in this sport. It is insane how much flopping goes on. And it's not just the Argentines. It's every match I saw, there's any kind of contact. These guys flop to get the call. It's. It's awful. And it needs to be addressed in the sport just like it has been addressed in the NBA, which is National Basketball Association's problem with flopping. A lot of international players, international sports flopping. [00:07:58] Speaker B: You know, I just realized we should have talked about this last episode. What's this going to come out, like a month after the World cup and everything? [00:08:02] Speaker A: Two months after? Yeah, doesn't matter. We want to know his thoughts, his feelings. [00:08:07] Speaker C: That's it. There's nothing more to say. This was the best England team ever. That would and probably won't. Harry Kane's going to be too old at the next World cup. And it's just. [00:08:18] Speaker A: Well, when you were watching it, to [00:08:20] Speaker C: go out like that way, thinking about [00:08:22] Speaker A: him as they were up, right, I was like, they're gonna win. I can't believe it. And then Gary is gonna, like, he's not gonna know what to do because he's. He predicted that they would lose. [00:08:31] Speaker B: Right. [00:08:31] Speaker A: It always happens. And I was like, it's. It's not gonna happen. They're gonna win and he's not gonna know what to do with himself. He'd be, you know, apoplectic. And sure enough. [00:08:42] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:08:42] Speaker A: Like a Cleveland Browns team. They imploded. [00:08:46] Speaker C: I spent the last 30 minutes just. Just saying to my missus, who couldn't give a toss either way, like, what are they doing? Why are they defending? [00:08:54] Speaker A: Yeah. The pressure was unbelievable. Like, it was a shot after shot. You just knew. [00:08:58] Speaker C: It's just inevitable. [00:08:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Right? [00:09:00] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I don't know anything total. Well, we're sorry. And when I sent you the text saying, I'm sorry your team lost, I didn't want you to think it was snide, like, you know, sticking it to you. I had no, no horse in the game. I wasn't trying to. Even though you always do that to me, I was leg. Ultimately sad for you. I felt sorry that the team lost. And I. And I hate England and everything about them. [00:09:25] Speaker C: Yep. [00:09:26] Speaker A: But I care for you as a human being. [00:09:29] Speaker C: Oh, wow. [00:09:30] Speaker B: Sound effect when you need it. [00:09:31] Speaker C: Yes. [00:09:32] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:09:33] Speaker C: I feel. I still. I mean, I'm only just coming out of the funk of hating myself for getting sucked into the world. [00:09:39] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. Yeah, you really did get sucked in. [00:09:42] Speaker C: I was fully in on it. [00:09:43] Speaker A: But did you enjoy? I mean, it was a good. Was it a good ride for you? I mean, it was. [00:09:47] Speaker C: It was good. I mean, you know, the, the matches against Norway and Mexico were just off the chain. Amazing. You know, I, I even. What's really annoying is I tuned in twice. I saw. I was always looking at the scores. What are the current scores? And I saw bloody Argentina were 2 nil down to who the hell was it with, like, 20 minutes left. And I'm like. Because as soon as you saw the brackets. [00:10:19] Speaker A: Yeah, that was the game before, I think, right? [00:10:21] Speaker C: No, that was. They lost to Switzerland. Switzerland let them off the hook. But they got even bigger, let off the hook before the game, that before. And I'm in Switzerland. Yeah. Now I think about it, and I, I wasn't gonna watch at that match. I was trying to watch maybe one, maybe two matches a day. And I said to Heather, oh, my God, Argentina are about to get knocked out. I gotta see this. And of course, they go through. And I, I, as soon as you saw the brackets for this World cup, you're like, England's on a collision course with Argentina here. On a collision course. And then it. [00:10:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. That's too bad. It sucks. Sucks when your team loses. No one knows that better than old Christian. [00:11:07] Speaker B: That's right. That's right. [00:11:09] Speaker A: Many times a bridesmaid, never a bride. [00:11:11] Speaker C: Buffalo sports syndrome. [00:11:13] Speaker B: Oh boy. It's pretty brutal. [00:11:15] Speaker A: How are you feeling about the team this year? Now last year, Buffalo, I, I predicted they would win the Super Bowl. [00:11:21] Speaker B: Lots of people did. [00:11:23] Speaker A: How do you feel about them this year? I want to know. [00:11:24] Speaker B: Same way I feel every year. See what they do, you know, and I'll watch on Sundays. And other than that, I'm going to go about my regular life. [00:11:32] Speaker A: How about the new stadium? You're going to make a venture there? [00:11:34] Speaker B: No, I don't think so. I don't. That I don't like. They're doing that classic thing where they're squeezing out all the blue collar people, which is their whole backbone. Buffalo is a blue collar town. Their fan base is. Yeah, yeah. They're building this new place where you can't get an affordable seat, you know, and there's less seats for a higher price and they're more of those, you know, let's. I don't agree with it. I'm not happy that they're doing it. [00:12:03] Speaker C: It's weird to me. I mean the NFL, like all sports has gotten more and more and more expensive to the. Where going there is just a status. [00:12:12] Speaker B: Right. [00:12:13] Speaker C: Thing. [00:12:13] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:12:14] Speaker C: So you would think that would naturally allow for an alternate league to then spring up and say, all right, this, this sport is now only catering to the wealthy elite. Will do. But every, the ufl. [00:12:29] Speaker B: Have you seen the UFL that comes out, it comes out in the spring. USFL or no ufl. It's great. They've got all these crazy rules. Like one of them's, I think like if you score a touchdown, you have the option of either a kickoff like normal or you can start at like 4th and 35 on your own 20. And so like you have a shot. So. And also if you're for the extra points, it's either one, three or five. I think like one point, one extra point. Like you, you're basically just like starting on the one yard line. Three is like five yards out, five is like 10 yards out. So you could be down by like three scores with five minutes left, score a touchdown, get that five point extra point, go for the fourth and 35, make like get it get, you know, complete the pass, gain 40 yards and all of a sudden you score your next touchdown, you're right back in the game again [00:13:27] Speaker A: and it'll never work. [00:13:29] Speaker B: It's been, it's been working. And everyone that plays there is just thrilled to be there because they're guys that are not going to the NFL and they know it. And so they're just happy to be doing anything. So the sideline, the reporters on the sideline with the interviews are hilarious. The fan base is hilarious. There's nobody there. You know, there's like, there are people there, but they're all like the Chicago crammed down in the bottom. No, but St. Louis does. I've been meaning to go down there. [00:13:55] Speaker A: There's going to be games played this season. It's been current with the NFL season. [00:14:00] Speaker B: It's. They've been doing it for like five years now. [00:14:02] Speaker C: Oh, do you think there'd be a legitimate. No bullshitting alternate to the NFL? [00:14:09] Speaker B: No, they probably swallow them up. Like it's just the same thing as, like when people, they don't say get on a search. Get on a. Get on a search engine and look for this. They say google this thing. You know, Google swallows everything up immediately. There's no chance they're going to suffocate you. The NFL will do the same thing. [00:14:27] Speaker A: Yeah. The product is sounds. Oh, shite. [00:14:32] Speaker B: What? [00:14:33] Speaker A: This usl. Ufl. [00:14:35] Speaker B: Oh, then don't watch it. [00:14:37] Speaker A: I mean, it sounds like the Savannah bananas. [00:14:41] Speaker C: Surely if the NFL just keeps pushing the blue collar people of further and further away, how do they keep them hooked in? [00:14:50] Speaker A: Listen, I went to a game last year whenever. It's still very blue collar there. Right. Maybe they're getting their whole paycheck. I don't know. But these blue collar folks where I'm [00:14:59] Speaker B: sitting up in the top talking about a Bears game. [00:15:01] Speaker A: Yeah. At a Bears game. Yeah, up top. Anyway. Yeah. I don't know. [00:15:07] Speaker C: Where are they getting the dosh? [00:15:09] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:15:10] Speaker B: Yeah, no one's saying that they're not going, but it's just there's less squeeze, there's less seats and they're more expensive. Yeah, that's in our squeeze. That's what's happening. [00:15:17] Speaker A: Yeah. All right. Well, on that dour note, the death of. [00:15:24] Speaker B: You brought up Buffalo sports. [00:15:25] Speaker A: I should not have. [00:15:27] Speaker B: That's good that trying to get, you [00:15:30] Speaker A: know, I don't really have anything to [00:15:31] Speaker B: commit to wild success. [00:15:33] Speaker C: Well, I have an agenda. [00:15:34] Speaker B: Oh, yeah? Let's hear it. [00:15:36] Speaker C: So I want to share, having talked about in the previous Episode. Having talked about life's little victories, I want to talk about one of my life's little losses that I just. So I went to the flea market the other week. [00:15:52] Speaker A: You were supposed to bring me. [00:15:53] Speaker C: I know, I know. I had to get in and out. I only had an hour. I couldn't dick around watching you faff around with things. So I got this tape and it, and it said, I found this old Polski selling just a mountain of shite. And I had a videotape and it said like, it said something like, you know, the Starburst talent school audition tape, like real, you know, and it was an old VHS tape from the 80s. And I thought, oh my God, I've hit the mother load here. I'm gonna find either the worst read through audition video taping ever that'll put me in the hall of fame for like found footage, or it's going to be like a 16 year old demi Moore reading, you know, and I'll. I'll have it. You know what I mean? Like, this is, this is my. This is it. I found a Sistine Chapel of vhs. Weird found footage. [00:17:01] Speaker A: Yes. Yes. We're all so pins and needles. Yes. [00:17:04] Speaker C: The rest of the day I had all these other bullshit errands to do in this. Meanwhile, this, this tape is just burning a hole in my bollocks. Like, oh, I can't wait to see it. I finally get home, I straight to the vhs, I whack it in there. And some, some had taped over. [00:17:24] Speaker B: No, the whole. [00:17:25] Speaker C: Taped over. The auditions with a, with a Patrick Swayze trucker movie. [00:17:33] Speaker A: Yeah. What movie? That is not Roadhouse. [00:17:35] Speaker C: Not Roadhouse. It's like him as a trucker, I want to say. And I'm like, maybe, maybe it was a long tape and they only just annihilated like part of it. So I fast forward it and then they've got a like Dolph Lundgren movie straight after the Swayze thing. And I've just been on a bummer ever since then. [00:17:56] Speaker A: It's a loss. It is not a win for you, but a loss. [00:18:00] Speaker B: Hey, whatever happened with. Not to bring it down more, but. Yeah, what. Whatever happened with the, the rabbit that you found. Was it a rabbit? [00:18:10] Speaker C: Dead. Oh, God. [00:18:12] Speaker A: Why'd you bring that up? [00:18:14] Speaker C: It was a massacre. Five dead rabbits in the, in the lawn. [00:18:19] Speaker B: Yeah, right. I thought one of them was on the mend. [00:18:21] Speaker C: No, he passed the next day. [00:18:24] Speaker B: Well, that's too bad. [00:18:25] Speaker C: Yep. Heather goes, well, he's just a cat being a cat. Yeah, I. Well, yeah, you know. What? I'm a dude and I don't go around doing dude things. [00:18:35] Speaker B: Yeah, well, you've maybe a little bit more refined. You have more discipline than a cat. [00:18:40] Speaker A: What do you mean? You're a dude and you don't go around doing dude things? [00:18:43] Speaker B: He doesn't go around wearing cowboy boots and. [00:18:46] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [00:18:48] Speaker A: Kicking ass. [00:18:49] Speaker B: What else? [00:18:51] Speaker C: We're not beholden to our instincts, are we? Totally. [00:18:57] Speaker B: Oh, we are, because we know better, but cats don't [00:19:03] Speaker A: sometimes. We are when we need that excuse. [00:19:06] Speaker C: Yep. [00:19:08] Speaker A: Okay. Well, speaking of vhs, did you really watch today's special on vhs? [00:19:16] Speaker C: Did. And I got, as a bonus, something you two didn't get. I got the Beverly Hills Cop 2 trailer. [00:19:23] Speaker B: Damn. [00:19:23] Speaker C: Preceding it, same year, and my God, that film must have been shite. Did you watch it? I don't think. [00:19:32] Speaker A: Yeah, I've seen it plenty. That's good. [00:19:34] Speaker B: I don't think I've seen the second one. I think I've only seen the original. [00:19:37] Speaker A: Three is bad. [00:19:38] Speaker B: Is it? I thought two. I don't know. I just had it in my. In my head that, you know how there's a lot of, like, twos that are better than the first? You know, like the Wayne's world. [00:19:47] Speaker A: Death Wish 2 is better than Death Wish 1. [00:19:49] Speaker B: Yeah. So I. I had it in my head that Beverly Hills Cop 2 was on that list. But no. Huh? You telling me? [00:19:54] Speaker C: Not Bismol. [00:19:55] Speaker B: Oh, man. Who's in it? Is it the same cast? [00:19:58] Speaker C: Yeah, they drag them all back. [00:19:59] Speaker B: Oh, boy. But they. What? They didn't have the writing. [00:20:02] Speaker C: From what I could tell from the trailer, Eddie Murphy clearly wrote it because it's just an Eddie Murphy show. [00:20:09] Speaker A: It's a media vehicle. [00:20:10] Speaker C: So this Stupid voices. [00:20:12] Speaker B: Is this him, like, warming up to Nutty Professor? [00:20:14] Speaker C: Well, so here's the thing. Here's why I didn't watch it when. When Beverly Hills Cop came out. No. [00:20:23] Speaker A: Did you say Beverly Hills Cop? Because there's another film that sounded like the film you said called Beverly Hills Cox. But I. [00:20:32] Speaker C: Okay, Beverly Hills. [00:20:34] Speaker A: Seen that? [00:20:36] Speaker C: Have you got that bo? [00:20:38] Speaker A: He's got no effects over there. [00:20:45] Speaker C: I said to get that boing one for the sex. [00:20:48] Speaker B: Where'd you send me that Beverly Hills Cox? [00:20:51] Speaker C: Beverly Hills Cop. When it came out in England, no one in England had a clue who Eddie Murphy is. So the movie comes out. [00:20:59] Speaker A: There's a lot of movies that predate. [00:21:01] Speaker C: Well, so it comes out and obviously what happens then? People start backtracking up the line and go, all right, who's this guy? He's hilarious. This is the movie of comedy of the year, blah, blah, blah. So they bought out 48 hours, which had been on. I don't think it ever got released in the cinema. It was on VHS and people would check it out, but that's a great. So me and my mates watched 48 Hours and I gotta be honest, didn't rate it. [00:21:28] Speaker A: No. [00:21:31] Speaker C: And then they hustled out Golden Child to catch it. And that's a piece of. So by the time two came out, I'm like, well, he had one really good one and then he had two pieces of. I'm not. I'm. I'm off the train at this point. Yeah, that's one. [00:21:49] Speaker B: There we go. [00:21:50] Speaker C: We need that every 10 minutes. [00:21:52] Speaker A: So I. I like in the. So today we're. Did we even say. Yeah, we said. Right. Eddie Murphy. Christian chose for us Eddie Murphy's 1987 Raw. [00:22:02] Speaker B: Raw, that's right. [00:22:04] Speaker A: The blue leather suit. [00:22:05] Speaker B: And I didn't go with the lious because I did my homework. I. I heard the complaints from. From my partner. [00:22:13] Speaker A: Community. [00:22:14] Speaker B: Yeah, from the community. And. And I. I was going to pick Delirious, but it is not streaming on anything. You can't find it anywhere. [00:22:21] Speaker A: It's been pulled for. [00:22:22] Speaker B: It's been pulled. [00:22:22] Speaker C: I bet it has. Yeah. [00:22:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:24] Speaker A: So that bad. [00:22:25] Speaker B: And Raw was more. Was much more readily available. [00:22:28] Speaker A: It's filled with hate towards gay people. Okay. [00:22:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Somebody on Reddit said if you. If you really want to see it, just go talk to your dumbest cousin about gay people. [00:22:37] Speaker C: Mm. [00:22:38] Speaker A: Yeah, well, there's. [00:22:41] Speaker B: There's a. [00:22:42] Speaker A: There's a fair bit in here too, but not. It didn't seem hateful necessarily. [00:22:46] Speaker B: Didn't seem nice. [00:22:46] Speaker A: That wasn't nice either. [00:22:47] Speaker C: Yeah, it wasn't gonna fly these days. You think that was a. An fu. I'm Eddie Murphy. I'll do whatever I bloody. [00:22:53] Speaker B: I think it's. [00:22:54] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:55] Speaker B: Yeah. The whole first hour of it was that. [00:22:58] Speaker A: I mean, this is Eddie Murphy at the height of his powers. [00:23:01] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. This is. [00:23:02] Speaker A: This is the apex. [00:23:03] Speaker C: This is. I. I was thinking when I watched, was he the most flipped famous person in the world potentially at that point? [00:23:11] Speaker B: Most famous, like as far as that entertainer. Yeah, entertainers go. [00:23:15] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't know. But I mean, this is him at [00:23:18] Speaker B: the height of his power. Everyone knows who Eddie Murphy is at this point. [00:23:22] Speaker A: Yeah. And I like in the. I think it's in the intro or maybe it's in the outro and. I don't know. It's in the intro where they talk. They're Interviewing people. What do you like? What's your favorite? I like Trading places. I like 48 hours. I like Beverly Hills Cop. Right. And you're just seeing the. The resume of, like, each film was getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Delirious. When he comes out with this. I remember 1987. I'm 12 years old and, like, this was the biggest thing to ever come out. Right. [00:23:51] Speaker C: Was it in cinemas? [00:23:52] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:23:53] Speaker C: So that's why it's 90 minutes, then, because it was an actual film. [00:23:57] Speaker A: Yep. What did you think about this? The. The opening, the sketch that. I don't know if you saw who did that and. [00:24:04] Speaker C: Yeah, I saw the Samuel, because I was looking at all the faces, like, oh, I bet these are. And then Samuel L. Jackson comes up. [00:24:11] Speaker A: He was. Yeah, obviously one. I didn't recognize anyone other than the boy. Do you know who the boy playing young Eddie Murphy was? [00:24:19] Speaker B: No. [00:24:20] Speaker A: No, that was Kenny from the Cosby Show. He was Rudy. Rudy's the young girl. Cosby girls. Like little friend. Like grade school friend. [00:24:30] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Larry, I know you're talking about. [00:24:32] Speaker A: Yeah, he was great on the Cosby Show. [00:24:34] Speaker B: Oh, okay. [00:24:36] Speaker A: I like that little sketch, right? [00:24:38] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [00:24:39] Speaker A: Directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans. [00:24:42] Speaker C: It was a little too long for me, but I'll forgive that. It was dragging me along. [00:24:47] Speaker A: See, you don't like that kind of thing at the beginning of a special. I do like it. [00:24:50] Speaker C: I like a little sketch only if it's brisk. Sketch has to be brisk, move briskly, [00:24:55] Speaker A: not be too long. [00:24:56] Speaker B: Like the Rodney Dangerfield sketches. [00:24:59] Speaker A: Well, that was all sketches that. That show. [00:25:02] Speaker B: Yeah, those flew by. [00:25:04] Speaker A: Yeah, they did. They were. They were brisk. And then the. Mute the intro for this special time out, though. [00:25:14] Speaker C: What did you think about the fact that all of the people endorsing him seem to be white? That was odd. [00:25:20] Speaker A: Mean, the. The people on the street. Yeah, Yeah, I didn't notice. Yeah, I didn't notice. Did you notice that? No, I thought it was a mix. I thought he had a mix. [00:25:31] Speaker C: I think it was all white. Well, I think because they showed the merch stand. [00:25:37] Speaker A: Oh, at the merch stand. [00:25:38] Speaker C: Flying off the shelves. [00:25:40] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:25:40] Speaker C: God, I wonder if you. If you had that T shirt, how much would it be worth? [00:25:45] Speaker A: It's got to be out there, right? On ebay. Some of the stuff from the merch. It's got to be worth a few bucks. Oh, speaking of merch in flea market, when you're talking about it, made me think about. Did you see the news? This is unbelievable. I think it was yesterday or a Couple days ago, a guy in Oregon and I since have learned that Oregon is like the mecca of thrift. [00:26:04] Speaker C: Yeah, probably. [00:26:05] Speaker A: I could see that a kid in Oregon pulled out of a heap. 1972 Lakers Wilt Chamberlain warm up jersey that he wore in the finals. Authenticated warm up from Wilt Chamberlain. Paid like six bucks for it or something like that. And it's. He. He fetched like a hundred thousand. [00:26:31] Speaker C: Wow. [00:26:32] Speaker A: Yeah. Now I forgot. What was the point of that? There was. [00:26:37] Speaker C: There's what if you dog in white [00:26:40] Speaker B: people being interviewed and for the endorsements. [00:26:43] Speaker C: No, no, I'm talking about the merch was flying shelves to watch. Someone somewhere still has the raw T shirt or the whatever. [00:26:51] Speaker A: The kid that got 100,000 for the Chamberlain jersey said prior to that, the only thing he had ever because he. He picks and tries to sell this clothes online was like a $200 concert T shirt. What do you think a raw T shirt would go for? Eddie Murphy Rock vintage concert tea. [00:27:09] Speaker C: Vintage with like aging, you know, like things have. [00:27:12] Speaker A: Probably 300, 400. [00:27:15] Speaker C: Yeah, something. Something like that. [00:27:17] Speaker A: You ever buy any of that? Like, no, I've got a. [00:27:20] Speaker C: An Iron Maiden T shirt the first 10 years, which puts it at at least 25 years old. And it's an iron on thing. And I keep thinking I gotta get that on ebay, see what it's worth. [00:27:34] Speaker A: Yeah, it's hard to authenticate that stuff Right. When. Because I'll be looking for old T shirts sometimes. And you can't tell whether it's a repro. [00:27:42] Speaker B: Mmm. [00:27:43] Speaker A: You know What's a repro? Reproduction. [00:27:47] Speaker C: Like what? [00:27:48] Speaker A: Like Target makes. [00:27:50] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, but vintage. Yeah, but those are intent, right? [00:27:52] Speaker A: Right. Yeah, yeah. But even some of them, you still can't tell. [00:27:56] Speaker C: Right. [00:27:56] Speaker A: If it's legitimate. [00:27:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:58] Speaker A: How do you authenticate something like that? [00:28:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Do they have a process? I don't know on ebay? [00:28:03] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:28:04] Speaker C: Yeah, you know what? I know I saw a video on it one time. The label in the back is a dead giveaway because you can't fake the label. [00:28:13] Speaker A: Right. [00:28:14] Speaker C: Like the brand. The brand. Yeah. You know, so there's. There's ways and means and I feel [00:28:21] Speaker A: like the thrift here, like the one next door, they've gotten wise to a lot of this stuff. And it's got an old label. They throw an outrageous price on it. [00:28:27] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, there's kids at the Flea who have all, you know, like those balls winners, you know, with the caricatures and. And they, you know, they're pumping 50 bucks and on them. [00:28:44] Speaker A: But they're legit. [00:28:46] Speaker C: Yeah, they're legit. [00:28:47] Speaker A: They're legit. [00:28:47] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:28:49] Speaker A: Well, I. I was at a comedy show recently. I've heard of John Mulaney. [00:28:55] Speaker B: Oh, yeah? [00:28:55] Speaker A: How was that? It was excellent. It was really good. Wrigley Field. And we didn't get there in time, but as soon as we got in, we got there in time for the show. But right before the show, merch stand cleaned out. They had nothing. [00:29:10] Speaker B: No way. [00:29:11] Speaker A: The only thing they had were bumper stickers. [00:29:13] Speaker C: Wow. [00:29:13] Speaker A: It says, keep honking. I'm watching. [00:29:16] Speaker B: I'm listening to John, Mr. Whatever. [00:29:18] Speaker A: John Mullaney's Mr. Whatever on my phone or something like that, which I did pick up and I did buy that. [00:29:23] Speaker B: Did he put it on your car next to the. What were we talking about? The bumper sticker? [00:29:29] Speaker A: It is on my car. [00:29:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:29:31] Speaker A: Oh, Bernie. [00:29:33] Speaker B: Yeah. Is it next, say, Bernie Sanders. [00:29:35] Speaker A: And then John, I'm running out of room there. Yeah, I know. It's on the. It's on the side panel. [00:29:39] Speaker B: Do you need more coexist bumper stickers? [00:29:41] Speaker A: I don't have that one. [00:29:42] Speaker C: The rich get richer. Why the rich get richer? [00:29:45] Speaker A: Who gets richer? John Mulaney. [00:29:47] Speaker C: John Mulaney. [00:29:48] Speaker A: I mean, what a killing he made on this. [00:29:50] Speaker C: Oh, Christ. [00:29:52] Speaker A: It was unbelievable. [00:29:54] Speaker C: The merch stands sell out now at these popular things. I mean, that one, I went to the Riv for the taskmaster. They were down to just key fobs and shit and. Yeah. [00:30:06] Speaker A: And then most of the people, they take the shit and then they just turn around and sell it on ebay. Right. They're not even keeping it for themselves. They're just trying to sell. [00:30:12] Speaker B: That's such nonsense, all that stupid. [00:30:14] Speaker C: Yeah, that's true. [00:30:15] Speaker A: Jack up the price. [00:30:17] Speaker B: I was trying to. I was trying to sell those Paul Simon tickets and did any. [00:30:21] Speaker A: Who did. [00:30:21] Speaker B: I ended up going. I ended up being able to go, yeah. Yeah. [00:30:24] Speaker A: How was it? [00:30:24] Speaker B: It was amazing. I bet it was. It was absolutely incredible. I've never seen him before. So, you know, to look at. You're looking at the man, you're like, I can't. There's Paul Simon. He's just sitting right there. He's saying. I think he looked at me at one point. [00:30:36] Speaker A: Really? [00:30:36] Speaker B: You were that close? No, but I think he looked at me. [00:30:40] Speaker A: Did he. Did you see his grotesque. [00:30:43] Speaker B: His fingernails? Yeah, Yeah, I did. [00:30:44] Speaker A: So gross. [00:30:45] Speaker C: You ever see Paul Simon long. [00:30:48] Speaker B: He's got to pluck his. Yeah. His nylon strings. [00:30:51] Speaker A: Uses them as a pick. [00:30:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:52] Speaker A: It's disgusting. How could you make Love to a [00:30:54] Speaker C: man with fingernails like that Carrie Fisher did. That's not too shabby. [00:31:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:01] Speaker A: Meaning you're saying, you're saying right now that Carrie Fisher is not too shabby. [00:31:04] Speaker C: Yeah. Simon. Paul Simon's a gargoyle. Carrie Fisher. [00:31:09] Speaker A: Well, in her day, if we're talking about. Geez, my wife's not going to like this. Carrie Fisher. Return of the Jedi. [00:31:18] Speaker C: Carrie Fisher. Caravisher threw her. I mean apart from when she had that stupid. Sir, you know, cosmetic. At the end she was in Natural. There was something that. Do you read a books and everything? [00:31:31] Speaker A: Like holy postcards from the edge. No. [00:31:35] Speaker C: The only time I ever spent legit months is to see a thing. I went to see a one woman show. Wishful drinking, I think it was called. Oh yeah, yeah, Thing. And she. She dragged a guy on stage out of the audience to do a bit with her. And I was just like, why wasn't that me? [00:31:53] Speaker A: You love Carrie Fisher. You've always had a crush on Carrie Fisher. [00:31:56] Speaker C: But not her physicality. Her mind was. Was just so sharp and funny and witty. [00:32:03] Speaker A: Yeah, she's had a great personality. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:32:07] Speaker C: And every time she was on a chat show in England, she would go along with whatever. [00:32:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:32:13] Speaker C: Thing. You know, to make for laughs or whatever. [00:32:16] Speaker A: Did you ever, Christian, did you ever have sexual feelings for Carrie Fisher? Like Mark? [00:32:20] Speaker B: No. [00:32:21] Speaker C: What about D.I.D. bill? [00:32:23] Speaker A: Me? [00:32:23] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:32:25] Speaker A: I'm gonna take the fifth. [00:32:27] Speaker B: Why don't you just say yes then? Everyone knows what that means. [00:32:30] Speaker C: You're already in this, so you might as well take the fifth. [00:32:34] Speaker A: I did hold and rub that Hasbro action figure though. [00:32:42] Speaker C: You're already in trouble. [00:32:45] Speaker B: You're not watching Star wars anytime soon. [00:32:47] Speaker A: Rubbing the gams on that Princess Leia's. [00:32:49] Speaker B: Yeah, that poster is coming right off the wall. It's gonna be off the wall before you get home. [00:32:54] Speaker A: What poster? [00:32:55] Speaker B: Yeah, you know the one I'm talking about. [00:32:56] Speaker C: What about Olivia Newton John? No. Standing on the Olivia Newton John thing. [00:33:01] Speaker A: Well. [00:33:01] Speaker C: What? [00:33:02] Speaker B: Nope. [00:33:02] Speaker A: Don't care. Don't care for her. [00:33:06] Speaker B: When I was a kid, I had a giant poster of Tupac shirtless on my wall. [00:33:11] Speaker A: Really? [00:33:12] Speaker B: Yeah. His like pecs out and everything. Because to me, to me I just. I liked Tupac, you know, I didn't understand that it was supposed to be like a provocative sort of sexual. [00:33:23] Speaker A: It's not homoerotic. [00:33:24] Speaker B: Right. And I remember my uncle came to town and he had, you know, we hadn't seen each other in a few years and I'm like, yeah, this is my room. And I remember him Just like locking onto that poster. And the look of confusion on his face and then the look of confusion on my face as to why is he confused. That's Tupac, yeah. What, you don't know who Tupac is? [00:33:42] Speaker A: You like Tupac? [00:33:43] Speaker C: I had Adam and the Ants in full makeup. You know, the dandy look. I had that Adam and the Ants all over the world. [00:33:50] Speaker A: Is Adam and the Ants the same as Adam Ant. [00:33:53] Speaker C: Adam and the Ants was the band that he was in before he went solo. That was very good. Ant Music, Stand and Deliver, Prince Charming. [00:34:00] Speaker A: He's still kicking around. I saw him recently. [00:34:02] Speaker C: He went batshit at one point. Walked into a pub in London waving a gun. Oh, they told him to off. And then he came back and threw a car battery through the window for some weird reason. But I guess he must have got his. [00:34:16] Speaker B: Was it from his car? Did they. Did they find him later trying to start it? [00:34:19] Speaker C: I don't know. But, yeah, he. He went full. Full nuts. But Adam and the Ants was the first. What was the first band you were into? Like, when you're a kid, you sort of like songs, but then you. You go, okay, this is going to be my band. Mine was Adam and the Ants. I had everything, you know, the magazines and everything. [00:34:39] Speaker B: The first concert I ever went to was the Verve Pipe. Not the Verve, but the Verve Pipe. [00:34:44] Speaker A: Pipe. [00:34:45] Speaker B: I was very much into that kind of music. Alternative rock, it was called. But I would say, if I were going to say, like, the first band that I. That I. From the first. Yeah, from the first moment. I can remember the first moment. Seeing and hearing. [00:34:57] Speaker A: Seeing. [00:34:58] Speaker B: I'm saying, because it was a music video and hearing their music was Gorillaz. When I came home from school, one of their. I was maybe like 13, 14. Was I? [00:35:08] Speaker C: What? [00:35:09] Speaker B: What? [00:35:09] Speaker A: Gorillaz came out 10 years ago. [00:35:12] Speaker B: No, I was. I was like a sophomore in high school over there. [00:35:17] Speaker C: You must have been 26. [00:35:18] Speaker B: I watched it on a Magnavox TV that had wood panel sighting gorillas. Yeah, let's look it up. [00:35:26] Speaker A: He had a stroke. [00:35:27] Speaker B: You guys don't know what you're talking about. [00:35:30] Speaker A: It's interesting that you asked this question because this week I pulled out an album and listened to it, and it was the first album. The first. It's not a band. It was a singer that I was really into. It's kind of embarrassing looking back on it, but the year was 1984. [00:35:47] Speaker B: Okay, so I was 17, by the way. I was 17. [00:35:50] Speaker A: I was locked in like a. You were 17? [00:35:52] Speaker B: I was 17. So, yeah, three years off. [00:35:55] Speaker A: You're 17 when Gorillaz came out. [00:35:57] Speaker C: You 17 when you first got into a band. [00:36:00] Speaker B: Well, okay, so now I'm sure I was into a band before then, but that's the first one I can really remember fixating on. [00:36:06] Speaker C: Okay. Cuz I bounced around. It was Adam and the Ants, then it was the Thompson Twins. Okay. [00:36:14] Speaker A: Anyway, for me, the year was 1984. I was nine years old. [00:36:19] Speaker C: Play some like, build up music. [00:36:25] Speaker B: Well, keep talking. It sounds like I have it. [00:36:29] Speaker A: The year was 1984. I was a young man in my bedroom holding a cassette tape and rubbing its edges, edging along, looking at. No, that's all wrong. [00:36:44] Speaker B: This album is called 1984. [00:36:46] Speaker C: It's meant to be an instrumental, like a swelling orchestral. [00:36:52] Speaker A: Yeah. I was holding the cassette tape and rubbing its edges and looking deep into the eyes of Bryan Adams. The album was Reckless. [00:37:07] Speaker C: What's that like summer of 69. [00:37:09] Speaker A: Yeah. And I put it on this, this [00:37:13] Speaker B: week, [00:37:15] Speaker A: see how it held up. And side B was better, but because only summer 69 is on Saturday. But I did it while I was doing my physical therapy exercises, my ab work and whatnot. But I loved me some Brian Adams. Okay, that's not bad. So he's very pock marked, by the way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I think I had a young, you know, Greek homoerotic feeling. [00:37:42] Speaker C: Wait, what year is this? [00:37:43] Speaker A: 1984. [00:37:45] Speaker C: I feel like it was later than that, wasn't it? [00:37:49] Speaker B: Because I remember DJing. [00:37:51] Speaker C: What I remember about that album was it was the year I left sixth form and I just worked at a garage before going to uni and I used to hang out with this tool who. Like tool. Yeah. And. Oh, he only had two albums in his car. [00:38:08] Speaker A: Was that album Brian Adam's Reckless. [00:38:11] Speaker C: Reckless and Bloody Men at Work Cargo. No, what's the one that has. Owner of a Lonely Heart. [00:38:17] Speaker A: Oh, that's. Oh, what's the name of the album? That's not. Yes, Owner of a Lonely Heart is. [00:38:22] Speaker B: Yes, yes, it is. [00:38:24] Speaker C: Yeah. Owner of a Lonely Heart. And we used to drive around town. [00:38:32] Speaker A: Yeah, you and this tool. [00:38:33] Speaker C: Two shitty albums. He ended up shagging the girl that I was very, very enamored of. Oh, just. I think he did it just to piss me off. [00:38:44] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:38:45] Speaker C: Because I was crippled by self doubt and shyness and could never approach her. [00:38:52] Speaker A: So maybe. [00:38:53] Speaker C: So Brian Adams can go f himself because he's part of the whole. [00:38:56] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:38:56] Speaker C: He contributed part of that scarring. [00:38:59] Speaker A: Maybe he's less the tool, I would say, if he's the one, you know. [00:39:02] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:39:02] Speaker A: I don't know, pulling wool while you, you know, sit by. [00:39:06] Speaker C: Yep. [00:39:07] Speaker A: Edging. [00:39:08] Speaker C: First of many, many disappointments in my life. [00:39:11] Speaker A: Yes, yes. Well documented. All right, well, that trip down memory lane. Speaking of tools, that was an awful. [00:39:22] Speaker C: That was a summer of shite, not 69. [00:39:25] Speaker A: I gotta return that tool to you that I borrowed. [00:39:28] Speaker C: I told you, keep it. [00:39:29] Speaker A: Yeah, but the. [00:39:30] Speaker B: The. [00:39:30] Speaker A: The bit. I didn't even tell you. This is weeks ago. You're like, don't lose. He gave me a drill and this. This diamond bit. [00:39:39] Speaker C: If you lost that bit. [00:39:40] Speaker A: Listen to that. [00:39:41] Speaker C: Pissed. [00:39:42] Speaker A: And I walked out of here. I was like, I know I'm gonna lose it. And I walked out here with the drill and put the bit in it, right? And driving home, and I'm about home, and I look down at the drill in the passenger seat, and there's no bit there, right? I'm like, fuck. I pull over on the side of the road and I'm going. I'm like, maybe it fell out under the seat. Maybe it. You know, like, it's here somewhere. Not in the car. The bit is gone. Despite being late, I drove back to the Lincoln Lodge, parked the car, retraced all my steps, found the bit sitting by itself in the Walgreens parking lot, where I cut through to get to my car. And I got it, but the bit didn't work. It was bullshit. [00:40:27] Speaker C: Three times more expensive than the goddamn drill. I don't want the drill. [00:40:31] Speaker A: The fucking bit didn't do anything for what I needed. Why'd you give me a stupid bit like that thing just spun around on the top of the ceramic. I had to use an actual drill, like a small one I found. [00:40:42] Speaker C: You're pissing up a rope, mate. [00:40:44] Speaker A: The thing was just sputtering around all over the top of the ceramic. Back to Eddie Murphy's 1987 Raw. [00:40:54] Speaker C: All right. It's been. [00:40:55] Speaker A: Well, I. I'm. I'm excited to talk about this. I watched it last night after a big Cubs win. Cubs walloped. [00:41:03] Speaker B: How are they doing? [00:41:04] Speaker A: Good. Pretty good. Fair to Midland to good. [00:41:08] Speaker C: I watched Major League last night. Not last night, the night before. Disappointing. Yeah. [00:41:14] Speaker A: I was thinking about watching that again. Why did you watch it? [00:41:20] Speaker C: I think I was remembering something about Skip Grip. Paris came on. He's in there, and he's the silent anchorman. I know what it was. There was something about that film. It's not good. No, they. They. They have to win the final match of the year, right? To do. No mention of playoffs or anything at all, like, just baseball comes Down. [00:41:46] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know what that means. [00:41:47] Speaker C: It's like, didn't every American go, hang [00:41:50] Speaker A: on, they had to win the pennant? What happened to the World Series in that film? No, they didn't. [00:41:56] Speaker C: Plus, plot another plot hole. She's looking for them to lose, like, you know, whatever it is. Amount they've already won the amount where MLB is not going to let him move the team. [00:42:09] Speaker A: Right. [00:42:09] Speaker C: So who gives a toss whether they win this final game? [00:42:11] Speaker A: They're just trying to stick it to the owner. [00:42:13] Speaker C: Holes in there. You should watch it, though. [00:42:17] Speaker B: Should be called major disappointment. [00:42:20] Speaker A: Life's major disappointment. One of many. [00:42:24] Speaker C: Sorry, Cubs. [00:42:25] Speaker A: Anyway, I watched it last night. It's fresh in my mind. I want to thank you, Christian, for choosing this. [00:42:32] Speaker B: Hey, no problem. [00:42:33] Speaker A: I want to thank you for constantly bringing us back to the classics. [00:42:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:42:37] Speaker A: This is one I hadn't. I don't honestly think I'd seen since around the time it came out. And so, man, I. I had always thought of Raw as the lesser of the two between Raw and Delirious. Delirious was considered at its best. And Raw was, like, not as good. Right. I haven't seen Delirious that recently, but this was excellent. One of our listeners told me not to. When I get excited, yell into the mic because they must, like, blow them out when they're. When I did that. [00:43:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:43:15] Speaker A: Excellent. [00:43:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it does. [00:43:17] Speaker A: You would know. [00:43:17] Speaker B: Yeah, I see the red X. [00:43:19] Speaker A: It was excellent. I loved. It was. We already talked about it. I love the intro. I love the music as it starts with. I'm jumping out of my seat with that. That Raw. [00:43:31] Speaker C: Raw. [00:43:31] Speaker A: And, like, the music, like, in the intro, like, they're showing, like, the marquee and the merch and all the people, like, getting fired up for it. This. This was the greatest opening of a comedy special I've ever seen. [00:43:42] Speaker C: It's very rock star with. Yeah. Silhouette and all the bullshit. [00:43:46] Speaker B: Right. [00:43:46] Speaker A: It was like, this is gonna be amazing. [00:43:49] Speaker B: Right. [00:43:49] Speaker A: John Mulaney didn't have that. [00:43:50] Speaker B: Kind of did the opposite for me, really. [00:43:53] Speaker A: It turned you off. [00:43:54] Speaker B: I was watching all that fanfare just thinking, come on, are you gonna tell a joke or what? Which he didn't for the first hour. [00:44:02] Speaker A: Say what? [00:44:04] Speaker B: Well, yeah, I think he maybe sprinkled one or two in around 40 minutes in and then went back to talking about. I don't know, himself and his life and. But not with jokes. [00:44:14] Speaker C: I thought I'd seen this film, but I hadn't. All I'd seen was him doing the. The Cosby impression. [00:44:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, the bit about Cosby abrading him about his act or whatever. [00:44:26] Speaker C: But that bit is symptomatic of the entire special in that it went on too long. [00:44:33] Speaker A: Yeah. I'll be honest, I pulled a Christian here and you know, I was very excited and hyped up and. And stayed so for the first hour, but I was sawing logs by the end. When I woke up, Masterminds with Zach Galifianakis was on the tv. [00:44:50] Speaker B: So you missed the end of this special? [00:44:52] Speaker A: Missed the very end. Yeah, I don't think I missed much. [00:44:55] Speaker B: But last half hour was good. [00:44:56] Speaker C: Yeah, last half hours. [00:44:57] Speaker B: The bit that was. Yeah, that. That should have just been a special. I mean, should have been a 30 minute special. [00:45:02] Speaker C: Most of this special. Had he just got divorced because. [00:45:06] Speaker A: No, he hadn't got. [00:45:07] Speaker C: Most of it was him whining about women, which is probably why you liked it so much. [00:45:11] Speaker A: Okay, all right. Don't put words in my mouth. Don't paint me a misogynist. Okay, I did love that. I'll put my own words in my mouth. [00:45:24] Speaker C: I mean, how much of it was him just complaining about women? It was a significant chunk. [00:45:33] Speaker A: It was a very. You know what it was. And coincidentally I just watched this the night before or a couple nights before. You've seen them film Magnolia? [00:45:43] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:45:45] Speaker A: I don't think Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia, 1999. [00:45:47] Speaker B: I don't believe so. [00:45:48] Speaker A: Ensemble cast. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore and a one Tom Cruise in heavy disguise. In heavy. Well, I don't know about disguise, but playing against type for him. Right. He plays a real lothario misogynist. And that character, I couldn't help but think like even leather clad his character. T.J. mackie. Frank T.J. mackey and Magnolia. I don't know if there's a. Like, it was very much like the way Eddie Murphy was talking about women and conquering women and how to conquer women and why women garner no respect in his eyes. It was a lot taken from. Seemed like that character was taken from Eddie Murphy. Wrong. I wonder if it is. I wonder if there's any kind of connection there in the writing of that character. It's a great movie by the way. If you ever, ever find the time. Christian. But I don't know. I don't like misogyny. I don't like bashing women. But you have to look at all this as a sign of the times. [00:46:52] Speaker B: Right. [00:46:53] Speaker A: I'm not giving it a pass. [00:46:55] Speaker C: Right. [00:46:56] Speaker A: Jesus, you guys are really looking at me. But some of it is very funny. [00:47:02] Speaker C: I Just know how much trouble you're in right now. [00:47:04] Speaker A: I am. Oh, boy. I. I'm not. Some of this material is funny. I don't get into specifics about what is funny, but there's some funny stuff in Eddie Murphy's Raw. I give it four out of five. Well, get me. [00:47:20] Speaker C: I want to talk about the, the off putting purple suit, which is just off the charts. [00:47:28] Speaker B: I mean, with the scarf and everything. [00:47:30] Speaker C: Yeah. Oh my God. And then I looked it up. I was, I like, you know, I googled Eddie Murphy. Purple suit, yeah. Apparently he lost them both. Like the red suit from Delirious. In this, they don't. Someone asked him in an interview, where are they? And he goes, I don't know what the hell happened to the purple one. He goes, but the red one was destroyed by some comedian. Said, wouldn't it be funny if we went out on the town and I was wearing your red suit? Because he found it in his closet. [00:48:03] Speaker A: Chris Rock or somebody. No, another comedian. [00:48:05] Speaker C: No, no. He said, this guy's like 6 foot 4 and like stacked. So he goes, this guy found the suit and said, oh my God, that's the, that's the delirious suit. Wouldn't be funny if we went out on the town and I was wearing it and he said in this thing in synthetic. This guy put it on and he's [00:48:24] Speaker B: just like, yeah, Chris Farley did. [00:48:26] Speaker C: Yeah. And so he gets. By the end of the night, it was just destroyed. Like, seams coming apart and stuff. But for him to go, I don't even know what happened to the purple suit. Like, what? [00:48:37] Speaker A: Yeah, maybe there's a lot. [00:48:39] Speaker B: Lots happened since then. [00:48:42] Speaker A: You know what happened to his warm up either? [00:48:45] Speaker B: Yeah, maybe he's got a very full life. [00:48:46] Speaker C: Who was the guy? [00:48:48] Speaker A: Fun life. [00:48:49] Speaker C: Sylvester Stallone. I saw a thing one time where they were opening up all these cool crates that he had in storage and it was all, you know, rocky stuff. Yeah, Rocky stuff or whatever. And he's just like, yeah, you know, I just put it all in storage. [00:49:01] Speaker B: Yeah, what else are gonna do with it? I guess, yeah, sit around and look at it. [00:49:04] Speaker C: But you would think he would have kept the purple suit or at least [00:49:08] Speaker B: donated it to like a Hard Rock Cafe equivalent for comedy. [00:49:13] Speaker A: I think nowadays everyone's just. This is like, yeah, it could have went to auction back then or whatever. But there were no websites to immediately post it up on or, you know, like, I don't think people were thinking of resale. [00:49:27] Speaker C: I mean, like, you remember CJ and Vatarot went to the. What's it? The Burt Reynolds. [00:49:36] Speaker A: They did. [00:49:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:49:38] Speaker A: Really? [00:49:38] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:49:38] Speaker A: They get anything. [00:49:39] Speaker C: I mean, everything would be like thousands of dollars. But they went. Because it's like, oh, we just go [00:49:45] Speaker B: in and like you could get a [00:49:47] Speaker A: pair of Burt Reynolds socks for like 50 bucks or something. [00:49:49] Speaker C: You left, text him and that's cool. [00:49:51] Speaker A: I didn't know that. [00:49:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:49:55] Speaker A: I'm surprised that. I think this was it. Right. Did he ever. Or maybe he did a recent stand up, but he did this one and then there was nothing. [00:50:02] Speaker C: This is the only. These two. [00:50:04] Speaker A: He didn't do anything more recently because I remember there was a big to do about his return to stand up. Remember he was starting to do stand up again. He said he was. [00:50:13] Speaker B: I don't think I heard anything about that. [00:50:14] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know that anything ever came of it, but like. Because he was gonna do a special. But these are the only two. [00:50:20] Speaker C: Are you sure you're not mixing it up with a return of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise? [00:50:26] Speaker A: No, but I think it did coincide with some. Something. Maybe it was that. But yeah, he was. He was set to start doing stand up again. It was a big deal. [00:50:36] Speaker C: Did he always do impressions? [00:50:38] Speaker A: That's the thing. I didn't remember. I mean, he did characters on Saturday Night Live and you know, we knew certain Cosby and Mr. T and things like that. But I was really impressed by the range of impressions he was able to do. Like, he was. He's a really good impressionist. [00:50:56] Speaker C: Yeah. The impressions are the highlights of this. Like he's doing the Italian at the end. [00:51:02] Speaker A: Oh, God. Yeah. [00:51:04] Speaker C: That was awesome. [00:51:05] Speaker A: Was that at the very end? Yeah, because I was. I was awake for that. So maybe I fell asleep right before. [00:51:11] Speaker C: Well, the very end was this drunk father. Yes. Stream of conscious, surreal father thing which just come out. [00:51:21] Speaker A: Yeah, that's when I went out. That's where I drifted off. I wrote down drunk father and then nothing else after that. [00:51:27] Speaker C: What did you think of that? It felt almost just like a stream [00:51:30] Speaker B: of consciousness at that point. I was waiting for it to be over. It was. I think I started this thing at like 9:30 or something last night. And I had to keep pausing it or like I'd missed something and back it up. And by the time it was. It was midnight. By the time it was wrapping up, I'm like, dude, I gotta go to bed. This. How much longer is he gonna talk [00:51:50] Speaker C: a bit about him eating toys? I mean, just we had to eat toys when we were kids. And then just the whole thing about. Yeah, I. Other kids had whatever baloney sandwich. I had a. What? I mean, just like. Where the is this coming from? [00:52:07] Speaker A: Was that the end? [00:52:08] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:52:09] Speaker A: Eating toys. [00:52:10] Speaker C: He is. His dad, they were so poor. His dad. His dad's family was so poor, their father worked for Coleco Toys. So they had to eat what he bought home with them. So they had to eat etcher sketches. And he goes, I ate so many slinky springs that I can't even listen to that jingle anymore. And then he sang the slinky spring jingle. And that was the end of the special. That's how the special end. [00:52:40] Speaker B: That's how it ended. Okay, goodbye. [00:52:42] Speaker C: Yeah, he literally sings the slinky spring [00:52:46] Speaker B: thing and then he says, I gotta get out of here. [00:52:47] Speaker C: Yeah. And special's over. [00:52:50] Speaker A: Yeah, that's kind of great. [00:52:51] Speaker C: But it was like. [00:52:52] Speaker A: What was the outro? Was there any outro? [00:52:54] Speaker C: Yeah, it was raw again, right. [00:52:56] Speaker B: I turned the TV off. [00:52:57] Speaker C: I had to watch it because it's on vhs. So it was raw. The song raw. He walks back behind the screen, he does the pose like that and it freeze frames. Yeah, they freeze frame on it and then the credits play. Some woman gave him flowers, so. [00:53:12] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [00:53:12] Speaker C: To toss the flowers aside because he had to do his like thing. [00:53:18] Speaker A: How did you watch it? Paramount Plus. [00:53:21] Speaker B: What did I find it on? I think I just did my illegal fire stick. Yeah. [00:53:27] Speaker A: Good thing you had the VHS copy. [00:53:30] Speaker C: It was, yeah. [00:53:31] Speaker A: How was it on vhs? Is it a different. Is it like listening to a vinyl. Do you hear a crackle? See it, would you? The thing you could tell even in the digital was it was shot on film. Like legitimate film. Like you could see the speckling in the film. [00:53:46] Speaker C: No, I mean when you're watching VHS, it's a 40 year old tape on a 20 year old player. It's. It's grainy. [00:53:54] Speaker A: Grainy. I like grainy. [00:53:56] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:53:56] Speaker A: Yeah. But you don't have Paramount Plus. I wouldn't think. No, that channel. [00:54:01] Speaker C: I thought it would be on daily because what? I. I was like an hour and a half. Jesus. I can't sit and watch it. I'll have to have it on my computer or something. It's not there. It's nowhere. It's not on daily motion. Nowhere to be found. [00:54:18] Speaker A: Yeah. Christian, I want to go back to why you said you thought it was so bad at the beginning. I. For me, I thought it was amazing. Like as he transitions in and out of all these characters and this is like when he wasn't being. I would think when he gets into the Real, you know, woman, women conquering stuff. And then the father stuff and the Italian stuff. That's when he's getting into like, you know, cancelable territory. But all the stuff before, like the big. For me, the highlight was the beginning. Like the hype coming out, the impressions, you know, going through all the, you know, Richard Pryor, Cosby, Mr. T, Michael Jackson. Right. Like, and then all the other impressions. That was the best part to me. [00:55:01] Speaker B: No, I thought that was short lived. And then it became very autobiographical and he was just kind of talking about. Yeah, like what he's been up to lately, but with. But not like in an entertaining way. Just, you know. Yeah, I did Delirious and yeah, I'd have done this and I did that and. Okay, great. Well, can you do a comedy special right now? [00:55:20] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:55:21] Speaker C: He kept going to the fast talking woman voice too much. [00:55:25] Speaker A: How does that go? [00:55:26] Speaker C: It's just, he's like, you don't own me. Yeah. He's just nagging women and he did it for his, you know, various girlfriends and his mom and blah, blah, blah. Was this the first ever white people can't dance bit? Oh, it must have been before. [00:55:44] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:55:45] Speaker B: Everyone seemed really surprised when he said it. You know, he was like, you ever notice white people can't dance? And everybody's like, holy. I think you might be right, you know? Yeah, it did seem like it was a fresh take. [00:55:55] Speaker C: Could this be the first ever white people can't dance? [00:55:58] Speaker A: I don't know if we go back to Richard Pryor here and now or whichever one we watch live at. Whichever one we watched. I think he took some shots of white people. Definitely took shots of white people, but not necessarily dancing. [00:56:11] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know if it was dancing. I think it was the way they walk. [00:56:14] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:56:15] Speaker B: The way we walk. [00:56:17] Speaker C: And then the, the white person dork voice. No prior was using that. So this was. [00:56:23] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:56:25] Speaker B: Hey, and. [00:56:27] Speaker A: And Eddie Murphy doesn't hide it in any way. His, you know, really trying to be Richard Pryor as he started out in comedy. And that whole thing about doing Richard Pryor with all poop material was great. It was great. And I guess I knew that, but didn't know that, you know, how much of Richard Pryor's and Eddie Murphy's act. I love the bit about like Johnny Carson and how his wife took all his money and like that to me was amazing. And how he related to his own life and almost getting married and then thinking about Johnny Carson and losing all his money. He's like, I'm not. I'm not getting married. I thought that was great. [00:57:10] Speaker C: Was the springboard to a 40 minute misogyny bit. [00:57:14] Speaker A: Then it gets a little. A little thicker after that, for sure. But there was one bit in here, and I want to see if you guys also picked up on it. Having. You've seen. You haven't seen Delirious. You've seen Delirious. [00:57:26] Speaker B: Yeah, Ages ago. Maybe it. [00:57:30] Speaker A: This is a signature bit, I think, from this one, along with the Cosby bit, is the hamburger bit where he talk. This is brilliant. When he talks about wanting a McDonald's hamburger, right? And his mom's like, I'll make a hamburger. I'll make it better than McDonald's, right? With the green. With the green pepper and the onion and the white bread. That bit, to me is. It mirrors almost exact. It's almost the same exact bit as the ice cream bit from the delivery. You've heard that one? [00:57:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:58] Speaker A: I got the ice cream and you don't have it. Then he does the whole thing like, we got McDonald's. You can get McDonald's. [00:58:06] Speaker C: I think it was a callback. [00:58:07] Speaker A: I don't know if it was a callback, but it was like, that bit was really good. I'm gonna do the exact same bit, but instead of ice cream, it'll be about hamburgers. Right. [00:58:18] Speaker B: Are you saying even you like that? [00:58:20] Speaker A: I love the bit, but it's so it. To me, it's. It's remarkable how. How. How alike it is with that. That ice cream bit. Well, yeah. [00:58:33] Speaker B: We're coming up on an hour. [00:58:34] Speaker C: All right. [00:58:34] Speaker B: Well. [00:58:35] Speaker C: Jesus Christ. [00:58:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:58:38] Speaker A: What else you got? Anything else on Eddie? I think we know how some of [00:58:41] Speaker B: us like my picture that I drew. [00:58:45] Speaker A: It seems like a doodle. I can't see any. [00:58:47] Speaker C: Any place is burning down some. [00:58:50] Speaker B: They're all smoking. Oh, that's the comic. He's sitting on a stool. That's the crowd and they're all smoking. I was really paying attention. [00:58:59] Speaker A: I don't have any drawings to share with this one. [00:59:01] Speaker C: Who's Denny Terrio? [00:59:03] Speaker A: Danny Terrio from Soul Train? [00:59:06] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:59:06] Speaker A: I don't know. I don't know. He's a dancer or something like that. [00:59:08] Speaker C: That whole bit about getting into the nightclub fight and everyone trying to sue him, I assume was real. [00:59:15] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:59:17] Speaker C: And then so he. He sort of went three back to back. He did the Italian, the crazy black man voice. And then the stepdad. [00:59:27] Speaker A: The stepdad. That was his stepdad he was talking about? [00:59:29] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:59:29] Speaker A: Not his actual dad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love the Bit about when. Not the whole thing about having sensitive testicles, but how the worst is when you're holding a one year old child with the gym shoes on and they kick you in the nuts. That. That was brilliant. That was brilliant. Do you want me to talk about what else I think is brilliant? Just in a dead pan. This was brilliant. This, this bit is brilliant. Well, you know, I think although you chose it, Christian, I think you wish you did not choose it. [01:00:05] Speaker B: That's not true. I think it's important to watch these old specials and to dissect them. And it doesn't matter if I liked it or not. It's a learning experience talking about how they came to be. What's happened since then. What's different now than how it was then. The artist itself. What's happened to them since then? [01:00:27] Speaker A: Yeah, what has happened? So why do you think he doesn't do stand up anymore or. A lot of comedians that reach this pinnacle do not go back to the art form that made them superstars. [01:00:39] Speaker B: Started focusing on movies. [01:00:40] Speaker C: I mean, he probably gets $5 million a movie. [01:00:44] Speaker A: Yeah, I think it's. [01:00:46] Speaker C: Where's the, where's the incentive? [01:00:48] Speaker A: Right? Like, but who's, who's somebody. Jerry Seinfeld, he doesn't need a fucking. It's. None of these guys. It's about money. Need to make more money. [01:00:57] Speaker C: Well, no, no, but he doesn't need the outlet because he's doing another Shrek and this and that and the other. [01:01:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:03] Speaker C: Seinfeld is never going to be a movie star. So Seinfeld, he's gonna have to come back to stand up. [01:01:10] Speaker A: He doesn't have to do anything. [01:01:11] Speaker C: No, he doesn't have to. [01:01:12] Speaker A: So much money. It doesn't. [01:01:14] Speaker C: But if he wants an outlet, like you need. You have money and you need an outlet. Right. None of them need the money. We know that, but they need the outlet. Seinfeld is never going to have an outlet other than stand up. I mean, I guess he could take another crack at tv, but he's always going to be compared back. [01:01:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:36] Speaker A: He could never do another show because we'll never. And that's what I was kind of driving at. See, you'd say it like, when you reach this level of. And he did it so fast, what is he going to do? He's never going to top these. [01:01:47] Speaker B: Right, right. [01:01:48] Speaker A: I mean, in terms of hype or, you know, heightened fame or response at the time, I know the response would be different to this material now, but at the time, like, you can't. This is like fucking the Godfather, right? Like. [01:02:03] Speaker B: And he might have just gotten it out of his system, you know, he might have just been like, hey, what? That was fun. That was the time in my life that I did stand up. Now I'm gonna do movies. [01:02:11] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [01:02:13] Speaker C: I mean, there's only so much in you. [01:02:15] Speaker A: Yeah. Everybody has a different amount. [01:02:17] Speaker C: Although I guess he could get. You know, I think it was co. Wrote with. With a Wayans, right. So, I mean, he can get someone to write. [01:02:24] Speaker A: He wrote it. The. The sketch was written with Keenan Ivory Wayans and the director of photography, I believe, was Ernest Dickerson, who did. I don't know if he did Boys in the Hood Juice, those kind of movies. Higher Learning and the. Did you see the director? Who. The director was. [01:02:46] Speaker C: I saw it. I didn't ring a bell. [01:02:48] Speaker A: Robert Townsend. [01:02:49] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, yeah. [01:02:50] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. I thought that was kind of weird. [01:02:53] Speaker C: Yeah, that was weird because he. I always thought of. Robert Townsend is very clean. Yeah. Like. [01:02:57] Speaker A: Yeah. Not like this. Yeah, yeah. [01:03:01] Speaker C: Maybe he just needed a mate there to say, this is. Don't do this. Or whatever. [01:03:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's. To your earlier point, Christian, about bringing back these old specials and reevaluating them. It's a hard thing to do, right. Like, especially the material and the time. Right. Like this past. At the time, this was acceptable. Same with Richard Pryor or Kinison or Dice. And now it wouldn't play at all. Right. Or most of it wouldn't play and would be offensive. How do we. How do we judge that? Right? Like, if I say this is the best special of all time, you're gonna be like, you're a fucking pig. [01:03:41] Speaker B: No, that's very one dimensional. I don't think we have to judge it. It's just worth talking about. [01:03:48] Speaker C: Do you remember the Lisa Trage a bit in the last episode we did where she talked about how she liked Devil Wears Prada? And there's a bit where the guy is pressuring. [01:03:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [01:04:00] Speaker C: The woman and the niece is like, that's whatever. And she's just like, oh, it's Paris. It's romantic. Shut up. Or whatever. But yeah, I don't like all these specials with the B word in them. I really do not. Like. [01:04:13] Speaker B: It's very popular now. [01:04:14] Speaker C: I know. [01:04:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:04:16] Speaker A: Oh, the B word's more popular now. You're talking about new specials. [01:04:19] Speaker C: I'm just talking in general. [01:04:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:04:21] Speaker A: You don't like the B word. We know that despite your. Your salty vocabulary, that one does not fly for whatever reason with you. Yeah. But in. In this country that's just like, you [01:04:31] Speaker B: know, dude, it depends who you are and who you're talking to. I couldn't. I couldn't walk around saying it, you know, in the same context that like. Yeah. Like a Lisa Trager can call her friends. [01:04:45] Speaker A: Women can use it. [01:04:46] Speaker B: Yeah. Liberally. [01:04:47] Speaker A: But, you know, we can't. Right, right. [01:04:50] Speaker B: It would. It was. And. And for good reason. You know, I mean, it just has a different meaning coming from different people. [01:04:55] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:04:55] Speaker B: You know, it should be that way. [01:04:56] Speaker C: So this special was BB. BB. [01:05:00] Speaker A: Oh, Eddie Murphy. [01:05:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:05:01] Speaker A: I didn't even notice that. MF. A lot of MF. [01:05:07] Speaker B: Yeah. A lot of MFs. [01:05:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:05:08] Speaker C: Was it. I didn't think it was as sweary as it could. As it. I expected it to be. [01:05:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:05:14] Speaker C: But it was very B ish. [01:05:16] Speaker A: Can we do before we rate and I know we want to wrap. Can we just talk about the craftsman? Forget the material. Forget the word choice. [01:05:26] Speaker B: Right. [01:05:26] Speaker A: Or the B's. Or what the MF's. Can we talk about this man as a stand up comedian. Craftsman, like we would Jerry Seinfeld and evaluate or weigh in on that, like, in terms of delivering. [01:05:40] Speaker B: He's very good at his craft. [01:05:42] Speaker C: I think he's average. I think he gets by. He's not bad. He's not Brett Goldstein, but I wouldn't call him. [01:05:49] Speaker B: You can command an audience, right? [01:05:51] Speaker A: Are you. [01:05:52] Speaker C: What are you talking about? When he recorded this, he was the biggest star in the world. [01:05:57] Speaker A: So he's shooting fish in a barrel, in a sense, but still he's magnanimous. [01:06:03] Speaker C: Fish in a barrel. [01:06:04] Speaker A: You know, he's magnanimous. He commands. He is a. The way he walks, the way. Just the first two sentences out of like he. He has an audience in palm of his hand. Not just because he's a star. That's why he's a star. Because he's that magnanimous. [01:06:21] Speaker C: All right, whatever you want to tell yourself. [01:06:24] Speaker A: Because what I want to get is, I think there's nobody. This guy at the height of his powers. You're talking like you want to say who's better, Michael Jordan or LeBron James. Right. Like Ted Williams or Tony Gwynne. This guy at the height of his power right now is the most powerful comedian. I would put him against any comedian in the history of comedy at this point. [01:06:47] Speaker B: This special is still to this day the highest grossing comedy special of all time. $50.5 million. [01:06:54] Speaker C: Well, yeah, a theatrical release is bound to make a shitload in it. [01:07:00] Speaker A: That aside, I. This is the most powerful comedian that's ever lived at this point in his career. He could destroy anybody in a round robin tournament. You take this comedian, this special, it destroys everything else. I'm saying that. Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, for the last time, Caleb, here on live at the Constellation Theater. Whoever Eddie Murphy raw wins. I'm dropping the mic. [01:07:29] Speaker B: Well, that being said, how many 5, 6, 7, 10 unbuttoned buttons do you give it out of five? [01:07:37] Speaker A: How about when he busts open the shirt and he gets a couple. [01:07:41] Speaker B: Right. [01:07:41] Speaker A: Like when he's. Yeah, he's not very built. [01:07:45] Speaker B: Right. [01:07:45] Speaker A: He's thin, but like. [01:07:47] Speaker C: Heels on. [01:07:48] Speaker A: He had heels on. God, that's. He's like. It's like something from outer space. It's amazing. So we're giving it. What. What is the. [01:08:00] Speaker B: Out of five unbuttoned buttons. All of five. Unbuttoned is best. Zero unbuttoned is the worst. [01:08:08] Speaker A: I'm going to say this with a caveat. Disclaimer. Right. I. I'm not a misogynist. I don't believe in his, you know, approach to conquering women and what he thinks about women. But as a stand up. This is the most powerful stand up performance I've ever seen. A5 out of 5. [01:08:30] Speaker B: 5. [01:08:30] Speaker A: 5 unbuttons. [01:08:33] Speaker B: 5 unbuttoned buttons for Bill Mark, what say ye? [01:08:37] Speaker C: I would give it three unbuttoned, but then a little. A little peek of. [01:08:43] Speaker B: A little peek. [01:08:44] Speaker C: Yeah, Yeah. I don't think he could be four unbuttoned, but I don't think. I think three would be stingy. Four would be too much. [01:08:52] Speaker B: So interesting. [01:08:53] Speaker C: Three unbond. And then. And then he's sort of pulling it three. [01:08:58] Speaker A: So you're giving it a three out of five. So I understand this. [01:09:00] Speaker C: Three and a half. [01:09:01] Speaker A: Three and a half. [01:09:02] Speaker B: I'm giving it three on buttons with the scarf still on. [01:09:07] Speaker A: Okay. Qualifying it because. Why both of you? [01:09:13] Speaker B: Because of the last half hour. [01:09:15] Speaker C: It was just too goddamn long. [01:09:17] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. I guess in that sense I would take. Take something away from it, but. But I'm not going to. [01:09:24] Speaker B: Who we got up next? [01:09:26] Speaker A: Up next. You're gonna be very excited. It's, you know, surprised that we haven't looked at this comedian thus far. Actually, this comes from one of our listeners. I want to give a shout out. [01:09:38] Speaker C: Oh, God. Not another listener suggestion. [01:09:41] Speaker A: What? [01:09:41] Speaker C: It's not Steph Tolev part two, is it? [01:09:43] Speaker A: No, no, no. This is somebody we're all familiar with. I guess he's been in the news lately for some impropriety. I Don't. I'm not familiar with what he's done, but it does make him relevant. Not that he's irrelevant. And he's a heavy hitter, a heavyweight of comedy. He. He goes along the likes of Nate Bargazzi, a Bart Kreischer, Andrew Santino. We're going to look at Tom Segura, mostly stories. [01:10:19] Speaker B: All right. I think I've seen that one, actually. Yeah. [01:10:21] Speaker A: I don't know what the year is. Alex Kormos asked, have you guys done. He's listening to all the episodes. Why have you guys not done Tom Segura? And I said, I don't know. We will do him now and we'll learn more about Mr. Do you. Are you familiar with his work? [01:10:36] Speaker C: I mean, he's another one of those where I hear the name a million times. I know he's a big time comedian. Haven't heard one joke. [01:10:44] Speaker A: Yeah, me too. Same with, like, how we started this program with Vargasi. Are you familiar with his work? [01:10:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I think I might have seen this special before. [01:10:49] Speaker A: Okay. All right. Well, we'll. We'll hear your opinions. All of our opinions on sound opinions. [01:10:55] Speaker B: I don't know if we can say that. [01:10:56] Speaker A: That's already a show. [01:10:58] Speaker C: Call it Unsound Opinion. [01:10:59] Speaker B: We bleep that out. [01:11:00] Speaker A: Yeah, sure. Mark. And edit anything. [01:11:02] Speaker C: I'm not. [01:11:03] Speaker B: Can you just edit you saying before he says it? [01:11:07] Speaker A: All right. Until next week or next month or wherever, whenever it is. We're back in here. [01:11:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:14] Speaker C: Are you. [01:11:14] Speaker B: Is this it for you For a while? [01:11:16] Speaker A: I'll be around. [01:11:17] Speaker B: All right. [01:11:17] Speaker A: I'll be around. You'll see me at odd times. Take us out with the. [01:11:41] Speaker C: As honest one.
